  • Excerpts from a Dallas Stars pre-game warm-up in 2009; Marty Turco is shown using the 'Turco' overhand grip to play the puck from the butterfly and one-knee down (or VH) positions, on both forehand and backhand, in a variety of situations and orientations.
Notice that the overhand grip gives Turco excellent leverage on and control of the stick and puck, even though he's in nothing remotely resembling a classic puck-handling stance. The overhand 'Turco' grip has its limitations -- in maximum shot elevation and power, for example, and in flipping pucks out into the neutral zone -- but it can be an extremely effective tool for any goalie, and is well-worth learning.
