The main point of this video is to show the relative advantages and disadvantages of the stance and butterfly: managing and balancing these two basic 'platforms' lies at the heart of modern goaltending.
Much of this video is taken from Steve McKichan's original FuturePro DVD series, and from publicly available excerpts; I have substantially revised but also seriously compressed a much longer and more complete set of videos, and added some new footage for comparison. I strongly advise visiting FuturePro.com and purchasing both the original and newly updated DVD series: they are by far the best visual resources available for goalies, and offer far more than I can in these brief clips.

Great work putting this video together. Very helpful.
Thank you for the excellent video. I've learned a lot!
Great video. Very useful for someone who plays as a goalie, but doesnt have access to training. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
I have A LOT of trouble keeping the tops of my pads closed when i go into my butterfly, also sometimes when i go down one of my pads catches on the other and prevents rotation, any suggestions?
This brings physics back to goaltending!
Question for the goalies here, when you’re in your stance - I get that you’re using the inside edge of the blade, but what about the ankles, are they ‘broken’ - as in foot eversion - or do you try to maintain ankle joint integrity. TIA!
Your ankles remain straight. Otherwise you would have a massive risk of spraining your ankles.
EXCELLENT VIDEO
Lmao this is some old ass goaltending techniques.
