Everyone who isn't reactionary and freaking out over the word "lotus" is - it's not a must have, and the people who were freaking out early are just looking for reasons to be mad.
@@KingBobXVI I think it's highly overpriced but I also dont think it's a low card I think it'll set itself between 20$-40$ my problem is that the card is just painful to play against in any deck that has a reason to play it like a turn 1 mizzix with only 2 cards
It's overpriced, it's not a must have in every deck but it's a huge buff to some decks. I think it's great in urza just as one more way of getting a chance to cast him turn 1.

It'll still retain a fairly high price imo though. It's more than playable and also a bit of a collector's item.
I will end up getting what I need in singles. My thing is, my friend owns my LGS and covid has taken it's toll. I buy a box and bundle (when available) from him every release. As much as I know buying singles is the right thing, I love helping my buddy out.
people have to open boxes to sell singles anyway, if you can't buy singles from your LGS and you want a box then it makes sense to support them.
I think that’s fair. Typically my want to support my LGS outweighs my feelings towards Wizards or how much sealed product is.
Same, I enjoy opening packs and supporting my lgs so I don’t really mind
Your LGS will make more off of you buying singles than boxes of sealed
@Josiah Hansen I try and buy singles from my LGS. I was happy because I have been wanting to buy a Mana Crypt and they had one in stock. Im glad they got the sale instead of someone else.

If I pull it, I'll sell it for the over hyped price then just get one for the $20 range when commander players stop freaking out about it. Only one, and only for my Urza deck because it doesn't matter what time in the deck it gets played.

That's because he doesn't recognize the power of the card.
He's completely wrong about its power though. The card is overpriced and no card should cost that much, but it's extremely powerful as well.
@@joelmonteiro1419 it's powerful in certain decks. It's not as phenomenal as people make it out to be. Yes, it's still a good card but by all means it's not absurd.

Preordered myself a pair of Hullbreachers from CardKingdom early on for only $6 apiece. Its currently going for 15. I feel vindicated.
Also snagged an Etched Foil Kwain, Itinerant Meddler from TCGPlayer for $2.50. The Rabbit Wizard (Wizzardrix if you will) is SO underrated.
Hullbreachers are going to be a powerful card. As much as I _hate_ the design space it and Opposition Agent hold, they're going to be significant game changers to how EDH decks are built.
I checked before it was up and then the next time I checked it was 15. Sad boy

Fun fact, its up to $25 now. 6th most expensive card in the set. just under Scroll Rack. And no, @@edhcube, its not getting banned. Especially not if Jeweled Lotus and Opposition Agent aren't.

urza would obviously like lotus. it's just that decks built around Surrak or morophon or muldrotha and so forth wouldn't, and either way don't buy it at this price
I guess it could also be usefull in a niv mizzet Combo deck since that one would definetly have an advantage from ramping out the commander quickly.

@@SuperMrAwesom it's not janky in Commander. It's seeing lots of cEDH play as the new Mad Farm/Turbo Naus partner or include. It's a 0 drop that always "in your hand" in commander which allows for easy turn 1 Culling the Weaks and the likes.

The Lotus reminds me of M21 Teferi. Since the last two Teferis were powerful, M21 Teferi was going for around $45 on release despite not being nearly as powerful because it had “Teferi price memory.” It’s now significantly cheaper.

Getting myself a Hullbreacher and Mana Drain in foil as soon as possible for my all foil mono blue deck. Gotta keep the bling running at maximum power, and I decided to get an Elder Professor playmat to top it off. Now I can educate my opponents in the ways of counter/mill Baral in style! Love the art!

I don't know why, but I really want to see the Prof play D&D. In just two sentences he introduced and explained a whole character's backstory and premise, and I immediately wanted to know more about that character. If he can do that with a gag character for a bit, imagine what he could do for a character in a D&D campaign. It'd be a wonderful sight to behold, I think.

I will buy a display to help my LGS. They already closed down once due to corona. They were able to save the store in the end but it was close. Now restictions have been raised here again making us mostly unable to play at the store, so I'll do my part and buy some stuff. Hopefully they can manage this time 🤞
Hang on professor a mana drain is nice, but a booster pack could be anything, it could even be a mana drain! You know how much we always wanted one of those! We'll take the booster pack.

Nekusar is exactly the kind of deck Wheel of Misfortune isn't good in because it makes all of your opponents draw zero cards.
Even if they choose zero, I choose the highest number and sure I might take a little damage, but I wheel and get a fresh grip while everyone else is stuck with little to no cards. I see no down side really

The title had me worried but then you opened with saying if you intend to draft it then go for it, which is what my friends and I intend to do :)
actually, I find the set underwhelming : Gavin had promised loads of splashy reprints, and what did we get ? 6 mythics and a bazillion commons and uncos that have been reprinted in every commander deck to begin with. where are the rares ? where are the rare reprints that we have been waiting for for ages ?
uhh staff of domination and rings of brighthearth? blasphemous act and austere command will finally go down as well
@Tyler Frost Of course there are more than six mythics, I was talking about reprints..... and to be precise I wasn't talking about the Etched foil Mythics that you will only reliably find in collector boosters.

I'm weirdly most excited for an uncommon. Rograkh has me more excited to brew than pretty much any card in the past year. He just fits so nicely into so many different archetypes!

I definitely won't be pre-ordering any singles, but I did get some sealed product and I'm looking forward to cracking them. Your list is a solid list, there are some really solid hidden gems in this set that I can see changing the EDH, cEDH, and Legacy formats quite noticeably. Fun times, though I hope they don't start making more than 1 non-standard product per year or wallet fatigue will get even worse.

What we do in our playgroup is everybody will build a EDH deck from a Draft Display. Sounds pretty cool. We will see =)
So, I admit to NOT doing as you instructed here, but I do have some reasoning behind that: Considering how many cards I am after in this set, at all rarities, I found it would be more easy and efficient to purchase a box to open, hopefully, get the majority of what I'm after, (for the record, its all 40 partner commanders, plus a lot of other stuff) and then just fill the holes of what I need after. I don't expect to plus, and would draft the set if possible. The best I can do is track down some people buying packs, and have an impromptu sealed deck.

As a yugioh player, I super dig that playmat and will definitely be picking one up. Buying singles is smart for every card game.
Singles availability varies depending on the store. Smaller stores may not have the singles you want, but you may want to still support that store financially because it is the closest to you. In that case, buying sealed product, supplies, etc. is huge. This is especially true right now while stores are still dealing with COVID and the changing landscape of WotC tournament policy from one week to the next. Then, there are some of us who just like the lottery aspect of opening packs. Either way, buying anything from your local LGS is going to be beneficial down the road if you and the other local players prevent that store from having to shut its doors.
