It's actually packed with complex symbolism. The lady bullying that guy and then proposing to him symbolizes wotc's predatory business practices. The sheep represents the greed of the mtg finance community. The knight chasing that bedbug is so obvious I'm not even going to bother explaining it.

There's that new blue card, azure fleet admiral, that gives you the monarch and can't be blocked by the monarch, so you get to retain the monarch as long as it stays in play. That seems stupid strong.

LOL When I first read Azure Fleet Admiral I was like I am the monarch why would I want them to be unblockable to me maybe they misprinted it... Eureka moment hits: Ohhhhhhhhhh that card is silly :P

The "let's wait and see what this does" approach seems to be consistent with many other banned cards released in 2020. There's a real question here if this design philosophy needs to change.

You really didn't need to specify "in pauper."
I think the problem is (and the reason I don't really play much mtg anymore, honestly) is that blue has a monopoly on 2 of the most powerful facets of the game; unrestricted card draw/card selection and stack interaction.
Other colors have some of these, too be sure, but they're far more narrow and infrequent. As long as blue is king in drawing cards (and picking the cards you draw) and dealing with problems before they hit the battlefield, and basically having the only way to combat sorceries/instants, in formats where relative card quality is so high blue will always be the best.
On the contrary, I don't think blue is overly powerful in other formats. (Aside from Legacy. I don't play Legacy much, but I assume that shoving brainstorm and force of will in every deck probably upgrades it quite a bit lol)
Look at modern, pioneer and standard right now. All of them have multiple non-blue decks in the tier 1 list. And the decks that do have blue in them are often 3, 4 or even 5 color decks. I think it's a bit disingenuous to call those blue decks when they also include the other colors in equal amounts.
In non-pauper formats, we actually see an incredible amount of diversity, at least as far as the color pie goes. Almost to the point where there's too much diversity because mana bases are so reliable that "4-5 color good stuff" is a perfectly functional top tier deck. Why play one color when you can just play all of them and have the best cards from every color?
@@Kurse_of_Kall sorry, I should have clarified. I meant more so in pauper, legacy, vintage, and too a lesser extent commander.
Standard, modern and frontier (although I haven't really played that one) blue is much less represented
@@TheGankingGeek commander really depends on your meta, personally white is the most problematic color in my meta. However I can see that with the amount of very good simic commanders it can really flood a format.

I haven't played Magic in maybe a year or two. But man, I still love Pauper. One day I hope to return. I still have my own Cascade deck list I'm sure I could update with some new stuff I've missed out on.

i absolutely love pauper in paper and MTGO and i have you to thank for introducing me a few months ago. i've been playing orzhov (either rebels aggro or pestilence control) and having a great time with both. the rebels deck isn't particularly strong but it's very fun and flavorful, and good enough to get wins now and then. more recently, i tried to build rainbow flicker tron since that's the top dog of the format, but i'm having a hell of a time trying to get any wins with it. it's a very complex deck and doesn't really seem to share any play patterns with its modern counterpart. some of the players who put up 5-0s with it every week do have videos of their play, but they're honestly not very good for teaching a beginner like me. your pauper guides are by far the best i've found on youtube. maybe you could do a guide on one of the recent 5-0 lists? just a suggestion. thanks for everything you do.

Given it's the format that allows me to play with Brainstorm/Thunderous Wrath as a combo, it's my second favourite Format (Right after Commander). All my Pauper mates at our LGS were excited to see all the new toys and decks we can build thanks to Commander Legends, especially Champion of the Flame. It's time to bring back Pre-Ravnica 3 Standard with Boros "Armed and Ready"
I don't play Legacy but last time I did it was the most enjoyable format I have ever played. But that was before Uro and Oko now that I think about it...
Poor pauper. It was fun until WotC starts printing cards directly for it.
That seems to be the problem for every format... printing cards straight into Modern ended up breaking it, and printing cards directly for commander has resulted in lower diversity in the format. Wizards should just keep their nose out of player-made formats.
My hope is that here they didn't make cards specifically for the format, but specifically made sure they didn't print certain things at common so they won't be in the format.

WOTC is in a weird space for design. You almost need an encyclopedic knowledge of 25 years of cards to even begin to design proper cards otherwise they are too powerful yet even the underpowered cards may combine with some card printed decades ago resulting in some insane new deck type. LOL No matter what you do your inadvertently affecting some format now ;p

Sorrow's Path + Donate or Political Trickery + Veldaken Plotter + every blue card that taps/untaps permanents (Peregrin Drake , Cloud of Fairies , Gulf Squid , Pestermite , Fatesticher , Captain of Mists , Twiddle , Dreams Grip , Hidden Strings....Deserted Temple and Rishadan Port also) so much fun deck to play :D

chief of foundry?
Chief of the Foundry isn't pauper legal. I'm assuming you mean Foundry Inspector since the notification I got had you mention Foundry of the Counsel and now it's changed to Chief of the Foundry.
As for Foundry Inspector, I think it's a bit slow and many of the artifacts you are playing for the deck either have affinity in the artifact creatures or cost 1 - 2 so you're not really getting a benefit in the cost reduction for artifacts from Foundry Inspector.
@@jasonkorf7700 how is it slow? With etherium sculptor you get to play this on turn 3 and then drop all of your 2 mana artifacts that draw you a card.
Even with out Etherium Sculptor, you can still get Foundry Inspector out turn 3 since it cost 3 Mana. The artifact creatures and Gearseeker Serpent already get cost reduction due to Affinity. Etherium Sculptor and Foundry Inspector really don't add anything to the deck. Hence why Etherium Sculptor currently isn't played in Jeskai Affinity or 4c Affinity.

The good thing is that bans in pauper well bad aren't the end of the world because at the worst you just have to get a new deck which are like 50-80 bucks were as standard bannings make you buy a new $400-700 deck.

Pauper question. While organizing my collection today I noted that Ash Barrens was a common in Commander 2019 (its been in 4 commander sets as a common) but was upgraded to an uncommon in double masters (and masters 25), now I don't actually have a plan to use Ash Barrens but was curious about the change in legality for Pauper and on a broader note how many cards see an increase in rarity rather than a decrease (or is there different rules for Masters sets?)?

trust me it is. I got a number of my friends into it and its always a blast. plus theres the benefit of the decks being cheap so you can easily have multiple decks to share out if someone new is interested.
