#CEDH #EDH - Hry
In case you missed it - Our schedule will return to normal starting next week (Supplementary videos on Tuesdays when able, gameplay videos on Friday). For next week's episode we are sleeving up some of the new C20 commanders we thought would be fun and built some decks around them. Since we are still unable to meet up in person, we will be streaming the matches over on Twitch this Friday (April 10 @ 7:30PM EST) before editing them down for CZcams: www.twitch.tv/casuallycompetitivemtg
All these comments, and not one mentioned Bill has his commander on his phone.
The most expensive single version
Imagine if he had to shuffle that into his library
I was rooting for feather the whole time, I screamed when Ashiok was tutored up. I didn't really mind any of the Oracle wins this season but this is easily one of my favorite episodes for the abundance of interaction. Kambal is nasty too, I kinda want to sleeve something up with him now.
He's awesome. Had a EDH deck with him for a while. But you do quickly become a target 😄
*Starting hand contains both suppression field and Sunforger* ooh boy this’ll be fun
Wow I'm pleasantly surprised to hear about the decision regarding Consultation, thank you
I really liked when I saw the Kambal on Bill's phone, it remembered me when I was trying to found a Nath of the Gilt-Leaf but absolutely NOBODY had one, so I had to use a picture of him in my phone as my Commander.
Great content as always!
Facu :v I have a copy I got a while back from an lgs that was selling packs of unseen 10 random standard bulk rares for 2 or 3$. I got that, a paradoxical outcome, and a lifecrafter’s bestiary, so, it was pretty neat
WOW that niv-mizzet opening hand
That's a snap keep if I've ever seen one
This was a fantastic. Loved the decks and the game! I could probably watch exactly this match up quite a few more times. haha
i really really enjoy the idea of "casually competetive" competetively minded decks without the complete sushihulk meta.
Also a fan of *not* including iso+rev in niv, which is debatable, but i'm a firm believer of curiosity effect + niv/minotaur pirate is enough of a wincon, you ain't gonna race fast combo decks anyway and not playing iso-rev means you opens slots for more interaction, which otherwise would be tutors like fabricate. (not to mention, my competetively minded, far from competetive, curious niv deck was built on a budget, so most free counterspells and good manarocks were out of reach, making iso-rev inaccessible anyways)
What is the "Rev" part of that combo?
@@brandonphipps5363 dramatic *rev*ersal dram scepter or iso+rev as a shorthand
(generates infinite mana, if you have 3 mana in non land sources and infinite cast triggers)
Agreed, niv doesn’t have a mana dump ability like Thrasios so it’s really pointless to aim for infinite mana, you have three curiosity cards, you have brallin and glint horn in the 99. That’s more than enough to win the game
@@koreyg8552 you don't aim necessarily for infinite mana with isorev in niv, but for infinite spell casts, which draws your deck with niv and finishes like curiosity.
Narabedla thats useless in niv, most people use iso in a build like this to copy artifact and then do infinite swans as an alternate win.
This was my first game watching. Great narration - really helped me follow and enjoy the game!
this was my favourite episode by far. it was really fun to watch
8:49 - Transmute costs {2} more due to the Suppression Field (Field doesnt make a reference to the battlefield, so it affects all zones). You had 2 lands tapped before you activated it and now 5 lands tapped for 3 mana. (doesnt really effect the board since you didnt use your crypt)
Good catch. I had the my turn and mana usage planned out ahead of time including the Suppression Field tax, just forgot to actually tap Crypt when it came to my turn
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG At ~7min there is also a missed tax from the field, from activating the ability of dawn of hope
@@lars2225 Dawn of Hope's draw card ability is not affected by Suppression Field as it is a triggered ability (doesnt have a colon)
TheJustinist isnt transmite a sorcery tho
@@jakobostheimer4066 Transmute is an activated ability that can only be done at Sorcery speed.
wooow i just found this channel its EXACTLY what I need! Spicy but still competitive :)
Great gameplay. Love the interactions
That was fun. I had a Sisay Superfriends deck for a while but it never really played out all that well and I've since taken it apart. Kambal also seemed pretty strong against multiple non-creature based decks.
Kambal and Niv, 2 of my favorite decks 🖤 Thanks gents!
Ayeee y’all are back!
Edit: On a side note your set up looks just as good here as it does in person. Quality content despite the fact we shouldn’t gather.
Check out 4:48 it is in person
This one was recorded a little while ago so it was before we started quarantining. Now we are just doing streams and webcam stuff
This one actually was recorded in person a few weeks ago, but overall the quality of the future videos shouldn't be affected too drastically. The webcam quality is slightly lower than our normal camera quality but overall the videos shouldn't suffer too much
Elucid good catch I didn’t even notice.
Hey guys i really enjoy watching your videos great job!!!
I loove the mats too!and the current stack thing too haha
I really loved and ejoyed this game. Keep up the good content dudes!
great game. thanks for the break downs.
Love that Ashiok play! That was sweet!
That was an interesting game to see
Lot more entertaining than just playing the I Win card.
My baby boy returns!
Oooo. I had a Kambal deck for a few years. He's nasty!
How awesome a game can be without Consultation. Good show from Feather!
Great match. I was really pulling for Feather to pull it off.
ohhhh that Ashiok was spicy :D
And sheesh that Kambal did a lot of work
Epic game! Thanks!
Great game!
A Casually Competitive MTG game that DOESN'T end with Thasa's Oracle? HERESY DETECTED! lol
Nice decks!!!
Sunforgering up a Chance for Glory during his turn would win Adam the game - or even Teferi's Protection during Jordan's turn. Sunforger being allowed to exist on the board with Feather is such a strong combination. However, the Ashiok answer was so cool to watch happen.
This episode was great!!!
What a GREAT game!
No Demonic consultation :D awesome!
Damn such nice editing
Cool stuff
The only thing I love more than a cEDH consolation deck, is a deck thats twice as nutty and powerful
Wow, what a game
I think this might be the first time I've ever seen someone die from commander damage
Amazing!
great game
That was an awesome game
so much more fun then demonic consultation games
That Feather deck is a thing of beautiful
Way more enyojable to watch
Wao, excelent match
Why does Nicol Bolas suddenly go from 2 to 3 loyalty at 21:36? That gives Jordan another destroy creature ability that it doesn't look like he should have had.
Looks like Jordan proliferated somehow, because all of his permanents got another counter. Maybe a Karn's Bastion activation somewhere
@@greatbrandini3967 I guess, but he doesn't tap anything... It's the end of the game, so perhaps he just said that's what he was doing without physically doing it. Though I didn't notice the Karn's Bastion until you said something. It's definitely there, so he had it available.
Not sure if stated but around the 9 minute mark the drift of phantasms transmute ability should've costed 2 more because of suppression field. I can't tell if he simply payed using his mana crypt due to its placement, just wanted to point out the additional cost.
Muito maneiro!
great game. Niv almost stole it there.
I'd be really curious to hear from Jordan how well his deck does, maybe even in different metas if he's tested that. My own Sissay Superfriends deck in a more casual meta has always struggled because it's a lot more creature heavy due to the casual nature, so it was really hard to get Sissay's power up high enough to be useful. I love the idea of her being this combo tutor very late in the game to finish, but also being a toolbox to tutor out stuff like Ashiok at instant speed like here. Maybe I'm just building my deck wrong or is it really more the meta that stops it from working for me?
Sniperfuchs I don’t know what your meta is like but creature heavy is usually fine. I like to use a Bruse tarl type effect giffing sisay +2 +2 due to the color and double strike and lifelink with his ability then just kinda toolbox your way to the finish line
this man really got his commander on a phone
6:12 Curious why Joseph took the smaller pile from FoF. He already had access to RRR from basic Mountain + Sulfur Falls + Arcane Signet, so he didn't need the Sulfur Falls, and I'm guessing he had no plans to cast Drift of Phantasms (since he later transmuted it). Taking the larger pile would have given him a guaranteed 2 land drops as well as a re-buy on Muddle the Mixture either to protect his combo turn or to transmute for something else.
Cause Drift gives him the combo, and muddle doesnt. Pretty obvious no?
Wow. I was thinking about the cost for transmute being the same as opposed to the cmc of the spells being different (and important.) Makes sense now that my brain is working properly.
wow, that feather :o
Really disappointed that there’s no Chance for glory in the feather deck, that card can win games and is searchable with sunforger
I was really hoping for that too
Yeah I forgot that you could only grab instants with sunforger and I was gonna grab a sorcery speed extra combat step at the end. I have since added that card because we talked about how I could have grabbed it during the game
@@Sliver_Boi also is the list diferent from the tcgplayer because i'm not seeing suppression field in there?
@@jua3000 ahh my bad I added that right before we started playing the game that day after talking to the other guys, must have forgot to put it in the list after the game
Feather was so close!!!!!!!
@21:40 Vraska doesn't have a -2 ability (Doesn't matter since she had 4 loyalty)
Jordan's playmat is Goku and friends
12:39 did Adam pay the supression field tax to equip the sunforger? Didn't see it
He taps 3 lands and his Sol Ring for the equip cost
The -3 of teferi doesn't untap two land, but nice game !
He used Nicol Bolas to untap the lands.
Bill's playmat is soooooooooooooooooooo sick. Tell me where to get and make sure you get the monies for it pls
I love the playermats. I want one :(
Soon
Feather, the Redeemed became the people's champ with that game!
You guys could use tabletop simulator for commander, if u guys cant meet up in person
Love the channel, I refer all my friends here because the decks aren't weak or geared to sell merchandise because of sponsorships. I love the graphics too. However, between the graphics and the crazy vibrant playmats, I found this episode harder to follow gameplay. I was too distracted with all the images. You guys should get uniform custom playmats of the Chanel logo or something to causes less of a visual distraction maybe.
Why are the Draw damage from Niv-mizzet not being counted as Commander damage?
At 10:10, shouldnt ancient tomb not be free to tap and give 1 red mana since it's a nonbasic land and bloodmoon resolved?
You are correct - Bill should be at 2 higher life from that point on. This was a mistake with the editing process, it was played correctly in game (I double checked the notes to verify), I just saw an Ancient Tomb being tapped and defaulted to taking life away while editing
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG To be fair after watching the game it was mostly irrelevant since he died to feather anyway
yessss SISAYYYYY
This was great! Question though how can niv mizzet kill the table? If he gets into a loop it could easily be 120 life points to kill the table..
Rex One ideally your cEDH deck should be able to win once you’ve drawn your whole deck and killed 2 players.
You put effects that shuffle your graveyard or hand into your library so you can keep going. Usually it is Elixir of Immortality. Ulamog and Kozilek works when you discard them to handsize. Torbran triples the damage. And you can just win the game with Lab Maniac, Tassa's Oracle and Jace.
Feather did so awesome! I like my feather deck but I feel like I keep getting horrible luck.
Quick question: why isn't Feather running Teferi's Protection? It is searchable with Sunforger and it's a reasonable card in the deck.
Because that feather list is horrible? No blinks, no etb synergies
Are all nonbasics Mountains even after Blood Moon is gone?
Are these decks slower but consistent? I can't quite tell.
All jokes aside, I think coming up with better descriptions would be quite helpful
Is there a reason Jordan doesn't run Godo/Helm combo in Sisay? I find it to be the most consistent and easiest to set up combo for her. It only takes 1 Sisay activation, 2 with a Torpor Orb in play, the end step before your combo turn
I would argue the Nicol bolas + Aminatou + oath of teferi route is better as 5 mana from bloom tender, dockside extortionist, or faeburrow elder will win you the game on the spot if you have sisay out. Doesnt involve going to combat or expensive equip costs and is super hard to interact with because of it relying off plainswalkers. Also has the cool caviot of creating infinite mana, exiling your opponents hands and permanents and, if you have ashiok in your deck, exiling their library and graveyard.
I will say Godo is a decent option though. I am not in particular a fan of the way he built his deck as he was running expensive walkers that really didnt accelerate his win con or stop other people from winning dramatically.
feather should have tutored for a gods willing instead of a pyroblast would replace sheltering light
How about an Edric infinite turns combo with thassa or conjures closet and eternal witness or Archeomancer. Or a Chainer Dementia Master deck with Xia dun the one eyed+ Solem sim + bubbling muck + amulet of vigor + Chainer for near infinite mana. Also of course k'rrk and Gary and Chainer etc.
They do say its a casually competitive channel :-)
I really enjoy your commentary on the matches. One small nit: players don't respond to "moving to X step," they just get priority during the step before it. You don't respond to moving to different steps, so saying "at the end of Adam's/whoever's X step" would be more correct
It's just semantics. According to you, you don't respond to a spell either, you just get priority after it's out on the stack.
It's perfectly reasonable to say in response to going to a phase.
Kind of sad that Adam oversaw the kill in the Dockside turn, giving his 6/2 hasty token double strike via psychotic fury. But glad feather did so well and imo won the round.
Psychotic Fury only gives multicolored creatures double strike.
@@LordTentai then recast feather with the treasures from Dockside, make a token copy of feather, equip sunforger and then fury
Man I was rooting for feather the entire time.
Kambal g g...need more like it...can we get a deck tech
Wack I see that Feather deck!
didn't feather have lethal ? if he attacked Jordan instead giving his token doublestrike he would've died right ? or did i miss something ?
Yeah, seems like got set off by the ashiok, he had the kill...
Dockside token isn't multicolored. And I think he was one mana short of casting Feather, Heat Shimmer on Feather, Sunforger and Psychotic Fury on the token.
@@NMS127 oh yeah, it was multicolored. my bad
Feather is powerhouse here. Sisay should thank to Feather for eliminating those two :D Niv-Parun was a bit greedy...
Sisay!!!
-11:08-- Minor nitpick here. Ophidian Eye doesn't actually fizzle. Auras resolve even if their target becomes invalid and go to the graveyard at the next state check. If there was any ETB for the aura, it would still happen.-
EDIT: I've been living a lie. Ignore me pls.
I think you've got that wrong mate. An aura spell that has its target made illegal will fizzle according to rule 608.3a and rule 608.2b. The only aura exceptions are cards with the bestow mechanic.
@@wesley147208 Yup, checks out. Not sure where I got that idea from, but I was clearly wrong.
So, if it was me playing Feather, after the e jordan's attack I would totally kill him just because of the rage... Nice play
Once he played jace he would of won but he decided to try and kill feather instead of winning?
Mason Rocco are we assuming he runs oath of teferi?
Challenge:
Play a match with Demonic Constellation without Thassa's Oracle, and a match without Demonic Constellation with Thassa's Oracle. Both matches should be played with the same decks.
What would be the point of this challenge? Demonic Consultation without Thassa's Oracle can still win with Lab Man or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, and even without those, is an instant speed tutor (although with a huge potential downside).
If you're running Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation, there's a greater-than-zero-percent-chance you're running Tainted Pact as well, so Oracle still has a win now card tied to it.
Why Jordan didn't get teferi oaths to finish the game early
I’m guessing Joseph is new to Niv. Tell him that’s not the way to play the deck, just tapping out and running Niv out there repeatedly. You don’t want to cast Niv until it’s winning time WITH interaction/protection/counter spells up. Instead, what you want to do is play a draw-go game, ramping and sculpting your hand, and defending yourself when you’re attacked (I use bounce spells primarily, since the threat of getting their creature bounced often means opp’s learn not to attack you. Or pillow fort cards like Propaganda and Silent Arbiter). Then, when you’ve drawn a bunch of cards and sculpted a strong hand, and you’ve got mana to cast Niv, cast a Curiosity effect, AND defend the combo, you go for the win. And not until. Niv is a mana intensive, brittle combo. You’ve got to have interaction up to defend it. Good game guys!
Heh, I get it, because Kambal "phones" friends
Gg
Jordan didnt pay the Pact of Negation cost or am I missing something?
Pact was countered
ya he tutored a pyroblast via sunforger... maybe a other in indestructible spell would be a better option. Then he would lose "sheltering light" but jorden need to pay the pact
@@spowox gods willing was the optimal choice i think
Why not attack with the token and give him double strike ??
YEEEEEAH THIS DISGUSTING FEATHER DIDN’T WOM THE GAME :)))))) LOVE IT
4:48 & 6:07 Thought this was a webcam game to prevent spread of COVID-19
We are doing webcam magic now, this one wa just recorded a while ago before quarantine started for us
As Adam mentioned, we recorded this video a few weeks ago when we were still comfortable meeting in groups fewer than 5 people; however, moving forward the gameplay footage will be over webcam. We will be using background footage from our streams in order to get the gameplay content for future videos
Somebody should play a Zur build
I think if the Feather player had an extra turn or Glorius End in his deck he could have won.
