    Plot twist: Bill was once a former employee on HHM in the 90s, before resigning from the firm and moved to Lincoln, Massachusetts.

    As someone who’s played the first game around 5 times, this by FAR is my favorite episode. The new take on bill was amazing.

    It kind of amuses/annoys me when people speak so blithely about 'moving on' after a significant loss. Like it’s a stubbed toe and you just have to grin and bear it for five minutes. Some things you don’t ever get over. They fundamentally change your life and you shouldn’t expect them not to.

    I'm glad that these characters weren't just briefly introduced before dying in a gruesome way, like I expected. I think Bill and Frank represented hope in a world where it seems that all is lost. I also believe that the letter from Bill hit Joel hard and that was important too.

  • @wynonasbigbrowndragon6121

    I'm not really a gamer but I love quality TV shows. And this is a banger. Also it proves that it's possible to include representation of marginalized population while still telling a great story.
    I love the idea of inclusion but I find it often forces quality content to take a back seat in the name of ticking diversity boxes. I often find myself asking why a show/movie can't do both, and these guys did.

    I’m actually really interested in seeing if they rearrange the events of what happens in the second season because I’d really like to be able to grow attached to Abby before we go through the first two hours of the game.

    It is a lovely romantic story. My one gripe is the timing. I have never played the game, so I do not care about the fidelity to or deviation from it. You (rightly IMO) compare this to TWD's Here's Not Here. I think Long, Long, Time is the better story on its own, but as you point out Here's Not Here came in season six, not in the third episode. As someone new to this universe (if not the zombie or post-apocalypse genre) I am still settling in with these characters and this world. I really didn't feel like now was the time to take our focus off the main characters and their story.

    • @mappingshaman5280
      @mappingshaman5280 Před rokem

      Well this story is basically the third chapter of the game. After said chapter you never see Bill again, so there's no other opportunity to have a story about him. It was now or never.

  • @misterdarwin

    On The Walking Dead, much as I enjoyed the series (at least through season 6), I wouldn't say the changes to the story were mostly for the better. A lot of them were done to drag out the story so that they would not catch up with the comics, which led to season arcs feeling padded or slow. This broke the series (or nearly so depending on you're pov) in season 7 (after issue 100 of the comics), in which the All Out War arc (12 briskly paced issues in the comics) was dragged out to a season and a half with often tedious meanderings from the main plot. Thankfully Last of Us seems to be limiting itself to two short seasons, so I don't think it will have the same problem.

      @RJA Před 10 měsíci

      It's not perfect. I didn't care for the 'happy ending'. I would have preferred if bill had met Ellie their banter in the game was great.
      Also would have been more sad because Bill would have a reason not to let Ellie look around his place and find all the painting ect that Frank did.

  • @RJA
    @RJA Před 10 měsíci

    This is one of the most polarizing episodes of TV ive ever seen and I hate that. I liked parts and disliked others it was a very mid episode imo.
    Personally I prefer Bill from the games we got to see a bit of him at the start of the episode but I would have liked to see him carry on after franks death and meet ellie.
    I think joel and ellie meeting him would have been a much more impactful ending. Especially if he got franks death from the game (hanging himself) imagine if bill did that in front of the painting that frank did too...man maybe thats too far but it would have been a great spin on the games story which didnt focus on frank that much.

    This episode was way better than the 2nd. I also agree it's hard to rate it against #1. I definitely liked #3 more but #1 was probably better, technically. Then again, #1 was like 2 hours.
    As soon as we reach the halfway point, I'll have to rewatch everything from the beginning though because I apparently missed a couple things in #1 since the long episode kept getting interrupted.
    This was technically my first time watching an episode all the way through from start to end (without having to pause to deal with meowing roommates) but I really loved the pacing, the characters, and the tone.
    My favorite scene was Bill getting riled up about Frank trading one of his guns and then immediately calming down when Frank assured him it was one of the little ones! 😂

  • @tannisroot

    As a gay man I actually wasn't really into the whole romance. I just didn't see the chemistry between them until they got old, and until the sex scene I thought Frank is going to take advantage of Bill and kill him to steal his stuff. Sex scene I honestly skipped initially because it's 2 hairy men in their 50s having sex which is a bit unappealing to me, doesn't help that Nick Offerman has that really bushy chest hair that reminds me of my grandpa and thus totally weirds me out.
    Although it's refreshing not to see yet another stereotypical young pretty and buff gay couple and the allegory to the AIDS crisis is lovely.

    I’m still a bit annoyed that an entire episode was dedicated to their relationship (what does it contribute to the overarching story?). I feel totally uncomfortable watching male love scenes (them in bed), and absolutely hate woke propaganda, HOWEVER, I couldn’t help be moved by the acting, emotion and story telling nonetheless.

      Nothing, of course. I haven't watched this gay nonsense, and won't. But I already know that its entire point is to get you wrapped up in gays so that you come to think that a gay relationship is a human relationship when in fact it isn't. They could have done the same thing with a man and his dog.

    • @heeheehayftw3905
      @heeheehayftw3905 Před rokem +1

      They weren't building Bill as a character to then continue on in the story as much as they were exploring themes of love and companionship in a lonely and hopeless world. Not every episode has to progress certain characters or directly address the overarching story. This one was showing how love can still exist amongst all the shit in the world. Something which is obviously meant to resonate with Joel, and will be seen later on in Joel and Ellie's relationship. I didn't particularly enjoy the gay stuff as well, but I'm not one of those people at the moment (like the other guy who commented here) who disregard the entire episode as trash just because they're gay.

    The episode was unneccary and could have easily had the same effect in 5 minutes, not an entire episode.
    This is a tv-show, they have a lot of source material that according to them couldn't fit in the time frame, yet they give us this completely irrelevant story. It bill was alive when they arrived then it's fine, long but fine. The fact that they would build all of this up from the first episode with the radio and end with this shitty conclusion, feels forced and who are we kidding, we know it was.
    This is bullshit and a sign of what's to come. Episode 2 had more lines and screen time by almost every character over Joel. "he does what I say" really summed up his character in the show. You can argue that it is because those other characters die eventually so they gave them extra time but how far does that go when everyone dies, "some" sooner than others?
    out of 3 episodes, the hero, protaganist, the main character... only gets what, the beggining half of episode one? the rest of the time he is following orders, silently

      @@antonioaguilar3016 The movie Up did it. One little montage and people still remember it and had an even stronger emotional effect , the music was also very important.
      You know what music they used in last of us? They fucking used Olafur Arnalds... Not only is it not an original score, it's a pretty popular song and sounds like it's from a completely different universe. Going from slow accoustic guitar notes through out the show to some orchestra violin, is just out of place. It seems like every time the showrunners make a decision outside of the game, they struggle to nail it.
