I believe that joel meeting elie outside was more believable, because david said that the building was lock and only he had the keys. Also, this is Elie's trauma, only she knows what she saw and did, i found this more heartbreaking because she is alone in that regard

also just the timing would be so specific. he shows up at the exact moment after, but not soon enough to help? the time going outside makes it more believable as there’s a slight gap

Love your analytical takes on media. It has started to rub off on me, I watch TV much more actively now. It has added to my appreciation of these shows a great deal. It also has translated to other mediums like manga
So please continue making vids cuz I love how thoroughly you appreciate every detail of the media you cover

I agree Riley got knocked out too easily, but when youre riding a horse at full speed and suddenly you fly to the ground and your face breaks your fall, you could easily be knocked out

I'm glad to see you're doing videos on this series, but I think you should take some time to listen to the official podcast so you can understand why they chose to make things different from the game. You're entitled to your opinion of course but it just sounds like you have a lot of takes that aren't totally thought out. It would be one thing if you heard their reasoning first and still disagreed, that's totally fair. But to just go in blind to that aspect is gonna hurt these analysis videos compared to your BB/BCS stuff, which was extremely thorough by contrast. As a fan of the games I have to say they were very practical about the things they changed and defended their positions well.

😮 you mean to tell me you don’t think it’s realistic to get a concussion from falling off a horse head first.. A horse can run up too 30 mph in less than minute. A typical male horse weighs between 900-1200 pounds, so let’s say calus was lean, and say he was 1000 pounds and add in Ellie’s weight. That’s a 1100 pounds of weight smacking her into the ground, again head first. I’ve heard of people falling off a stationary horse and having severe concussions and broken bones. It’s less realistic that she wasn’t seriously injured or nearly killed. She got off lucky with a moderate concussion that knocked her out for hours.

When you have a fever and are given antibiotics they work incredibly fast soon as the fever breaks you do start to feel better thats why ppl stop taking antibiotics before finishing the whole course (which you should never do). Ellie falling off a huge hourse mid gallop..she's lucky to have just got knocked out.

it wasn't an addition of David possibly being infected it's in the game, that why she bites him

I hope we get a lot of action in the finale. I know this show is more of a character focused one but id be disappointed if joel didn't massacre the fireflies like in the game.

This is why I avoid viewing the source material before I watch a tv series based on it. Because you will be inevitably disappointed when something is changed or omitted completely from a script in an episode that is typically only an hour long. I absolutely loved Game of Thrones, but because I did read all of the books, I often got to the point of anger when scenes involving my favorite characters were done 'wrong'. So I didn't always enjoy it the way I could have otherwise; as my nitpicking self wouldn't allow for it. From a non-gamer perspective, this is one of the best shows I've seen in a while. I can't wait for season 2-which will hopefully have more episodes. That it's about to end is my only complaint. Once the current season ends, I'll likely check out all of the sequences on part 1 of the game via CZcams, but then wait for season 2 and try to avoid spoilers for a year until it comes out.

I'm going to have to disagree with all three of your suggestions for improving the episode.
Having David & Ellie fight infected in the game works b/c it's a game and it relies on gameplay to help immerse you in the story. But as a TV show, I think it would have completely ruined the pacing and felt like an obvious & clunky plot contrivance to draw Ellie closer to David.
I disagree with the horse chase scene for similar pacing reasons. In the game, you're Ellie and the gameplay immerses you. But in the TV show, you are watching Ellie What's the point in having her dodge one or two more guys our galloping a little bit further down the street. The drama is in the horse getting shot. . Doing any more with the chase would have felt drawn out for very little narrative purpose.
The change in the climatic scene is more a matter of taste, tho my reasoning is still game vs TV show reasoning. In the game you play both Ellie and Joel and the gameplay draws out both their stories. They are co-protagonists. But in the show, this episode belongs to Ellie. She is the lone protagonist and the climax, IMO, belongs to her alone. Having that emotional denouement in a burning building would have intruded on that and weakened the dramatic subversion of the "saved in the nick of time" trope that was Joel's b-plot.
Good review, but I do think the fact that you have love the game so much is blinding you just a bit to the different narrative necessities that a TV show has compared to the game.

Not sure if I’m the only one who really was confused by the choice to keep the dialogue between Ellie and David when he reveals that he knows who she is with the whole “crazy man and a little girl” line. In the game you go through the university as Joel slaughtering David’s men but in the show Joel kills only one and in a more merciful way compared to the game. The show keeps that line between Ellie and David even though the reason feels completely different as to the game’s. Not sure if that made sense but I thought it was an odd choice and really was just for fan service. Anyways what a great episode!

Violence in TV just has to carry more weight than in games. This is obviously a small group and the man had a family. Seems like they’re protective of each other at least to some extent. It makes sense that if an important member of their group were killed they’d still want revenge and see Joel as a crazy person. Especially because nobody saw Alec attack Joel so it’s easier for them to believe that Joel attacked him

This winter part was my favorite part of the game. So more than anything else in the show, this episode was the one I looked forward to the most by far. And I have mixed feelings. I didn’t like the abscence of the infected while Ellie and David was in the cabin, and the absence of the industry-building or whatever they went into in the game. Most of the iconic scenes wasn’t as impactful as in the game, and lastly: where was all the cannibals at the end? I wished we’d seen more of Joel killing cannibals on his way to get to Ellie. Overall, this episode is very true to the game for what it took from it, and that’s good (if only they did that more), the acting was really good especially from Scott Shepherd and Bella Ramsey. So my biggest gripe with this episode is that it’s way to short, because they cut out like 1/3 of the winter part from the game, this episode should’ve been on the length of ep1 and ep3, not just 50m. I give this episode an 8/10, for what it took from the game was mostly very good, but it could’ve easily been my favorite part of the show, like it was in the game, only then I’d give it a 10/10.

They went through this show WAYYYY too fast. I feel like there could be at least 3 more episodes throughout the season. This episode also felt short. Which was 50mins compared to 60. They could at least have out the infected part and extended the case scene.
