The BTS video I saw showed the giraffe, Joel, and Ellie were real and everything else was blue screen.
Super stealth cameo alert: in the operating room shootout scene one of the nurses was played by Laura Bailey, who is the voice actor for Abby in TLOU2 game.

I felt cautious going into it when I saw it was only 43 minutes, but after watching it the pacing was honestly absolutely perfect, they hit every plot point and emotional beat in a way that felt very natural.
The finale was a bit short, but they nailed it. Can't wait for season 2.

I really loved the cold open of the episode but the rest of the episode felt rushed. The emotions didnt hit as hard as the previous 2 episodes. Joel running through everyone at the hospital with no real resistance felt a little cheap as well. I loved the show but the ending did not hit as well I thought it would. 7/10 episode in my opinion.
Not sure the creators/directors of the Last of Us could’ve given a more glowing review than this video, lol. Last of Us season 1 was interesting enough to hold my attention and to make me look forward to Season 2. Hopefully the storytelling in Season 2 is smoother, and with fewer confusing/irrational motives that plagued many of the characters throughout Season 1.
Actually you can hear about Riley in the main game before the final scene. Namely in Ellie's chapter. If you go in her backpack she has unique items for her, including Sam's toy, the note from her mother and riley's firefly pendant.

I loved the show, but after reaching the end… I don’t understand or agree with the lack of Infected. Hope they play a bigger roll in season 2. For an apocalypse they sure seem to have too easy of a time strolling through city after city. I get wanting to use the shock of violence sparingly to tell a people focused sorry, but you’re adapting a zombie video game… get off your high horse and sprinkle in a few here and there. If you think can’t find a way to display character growth/behavior and arcs through action / infected encounters… why bother with a zombie apocalypse. This could’ve easily taken place in a apocalypse caused by nuclear fallout and nothing of value would really change. We saw The Last of the Infected a few episodes back lol

Love your take! Just adding m own opinion here but Ellie was never TOLD she would die so Joel saved her life. He saved her from being a science experiment.Would Ellie reall have given her life knowing the risk of it ever being worth it? She fought hard to live...and how do they mass produce anything when people can't even eat??
True, she didn't know. Marlene was wrong for not giving Ellie the choice, but so was Joel by "saving" her and lying to her about the truth. I think Ellie would've chosen to sacrifice her life for the chance to make a cure. (Both in the game, and in the show.)
Going to be really interesting to see mainstream reactions to season 2 to compare to the gaming community reaction
I so agree with your point of wanting to see more infected. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in episodes 3-9 there were only two infected, both in flashbacks + of course that one scene with the sink hole bunch. It just kinda took the vibe from the show that I really liked in the game, the suspension of the infected lurking behind every corner.
As another general critique, I think the show's storytelling was quite fragmentary, something that suits the video game format but I'm not so sure about the tv show. But then again I don't know how they could have changed that considering that the game already kinda set up the story.
Otherwise I enjoyed the show and your recaps!

Air quality in that city alone turns all the people to clickers/Mormons lol
As shocking as the twist is at the end the whole montage of him gunning nameless people down with zero effort took me out of the story and the way they didn’t show him pull out his gun when she had him cornered was also very anti climatic.
The show did a good job of grounding its characters and the set pieces and yes the least grounded had nothing to do with infected.
I really hope they don’t do stuff like this again.
What do you mean when you say the GCI on the giraffe was wonky? They filmed with a real giraffe. (as seen on the behind the scenes).

Knowing that you didn't enjoy part 2 of the video games makes me look forward to season 2 reviews a lot more. Episodes will be deemed better BECAUSE they deviate from the games 😂

Was Marlene the mother of Ellie's best friend from the mall episode?
There is nothing in the game or the show that indicates that. Just because they're both black doesn't mean they're related.
@@mappingshaman5280 they were both fireflies and from the same place so I thought maybe there was a connection. And possible symmetry between Marlene having to kill Ellie's mom and Ellie having to kill Riley (marlene's daughter?) after they both got bit. I also never played the game so idk

Just finished the game last night for the first time, they pretty much copied and pasted it on the show, almost word for word and frame for frame. If anyone didn’t like this ending, it’s how it was in the game, so don’t blame the showrunners (just putting that out there, haven’t seen this video yet) Love you Kiwi! Thanks for all the great content
arcane is really good but its kinda its own thing based on the game not as much an adaptation.
