Hi Dezz, you asked if they've ever killed anyone in modern times, yes, but not on ceremonial duty. Only when they were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. When their not guarding sites around London, they are fully trained combat troops. There are 5 regiments of footguards, the first 3, Coldstream Guards, Grenadier Guards and Scots Guards were all formed in the mid 1600s. The Irish Guards were added in 1900, and the Welsh Guards were added in 1915. The red hackle you saw on the bearskins denote they're members of the Coldstream Guards, they wear the red hackle on the right side of the bearskin, so you were looking at the left side of the guy who was having his adjusted. When they're wearing grey, that's a great coat, worn over the red tunic in winter. The guys with brass helmets, breastplates and sabres are the two regiments of Household Cavalry, the ones with red tunics are the Lifeguards, the ones with dark blue tunics are the Blues & Royals. The guy at @6:00 was a member of the "Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery", who stand in for the cavalry when they take their horses to the seaside for their summer break. Victor Mclaglen who usually played a hard drinking Irish top sergeant in John Wayne cavalry movies, old school Hollywood star Ray Milland, and more recently, singer/songwriter James Blunt were all members of the Household Cavalry. A Corporal of Horse in the Blues & Royals is on the top ten list of long range sniper shots, he's been bumped down to third or forth now, but as he is the only guy on the list who's not special forces, and was not using a .50 Cal rifle, it's still impressive. The three shots he made to take out two Taliban machine-gunners, and disable the gun, were several hundred yards beyond the supposed maximum range of his rifle.

The Royal Guards (or Household Division) are part of the British Army and are deployed on combat operations. This means that they're not just for show, they actually do what other soldiers do, but have other ceremonial duties. As to whether they've killed anyone, many of the soldiers have deployed on Operations to Iraq and Afghanistan, so yes they may have had to kill as part of their duty. But if you mean have they had to kill someone who was attacking the Monarch in modern times...well you'd be surprised how little that happens. In 1982 (I think) during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, some idiot opened fire on the Queen as she passed. A Scots Guardsman wrestled him to the ground and began "putting the boot in", and the surrounding crowd helped him. The police had to rescue the assailant before he was beaten to death by the crowd. It turned out he fired a starting pistol, but given how the public reacted to it, I think it's safe to say any potential attacker would think twice before trying something so stupid again. Are their weapons loaded? Yes, that's the point, however, they have very strict rules of engagement, and keeping the peace is the police's responsibility, but the Guard could open fire to protect the Monarch, members of the Royal Family, members of the public or in self defence.
In regards to the "red feather" it's a plume, and each of the 5 Guards regiments have slightly different uniforms:
    1. Grenadier Guards - Single buttons on the tunic, grenade motif on their uniform, white plume on the left side of their bearskin.
    2. Coldstream Guards - Two buttons on the tunic, garter staff motif on their uniform, red plume on the right side of their bearskin.
    3. Scots Guards - Three buttons on the tunic, thistle motif on their uniform, no plume on their bearskin.
    4. Irish Guards - Four buttons on the tunic, shamrock motif on their uniform, blue plume on the right side of their bearskin.
    5. Welsh Guards - Five buttons on the tunic, leek motif on their uniform, white/green/white plume on the left side of their bearskin.
I hope this information is useful to you.

I'm pretty sure they only carry ammunition if the terror threat is at its highest level. Even then, it's not pre-loaded into the guns. Just in their pocket or on their belt, or wherever it is they carry it.
I saw an ex guard talking about it in some interview I watched some years back. I may have got some details wrong, but I'm positive the firearms aren't loaded under normal circumstances.

Others have explained the breakdown of the Regiments of the Household Division Foot Guards (the oldest of the British Line, from the 1600s odd) better than I can, but these folks are active serving British Army service personnel, and this is treated as a 'tour' or rotation as part of their duties. Then they'd be going from here to Iraq (Op TELIC) or Afghan (Op HERRICK) on Infantry Combat Ops. They are front line troops, but this is an extra Ceremonial duty they share in rotation as Household Div troops. There's a whole breakdown of who guards which location, but it's not very interesting lol.
A member of the King's Guard might say "GET OFF THE FENCE". A member of the Parachute Regiment might say "GETTOFF THAT FUCKIN FENCE YOU FUCKIN MAGGOT C**T!". So you can see why we let the fancy ones babysit tourists. They just break glass on us in case of war lol.
Timestamping the GET OFF THE FENCE clip is also a great way to reply to people who can't form an opinion. hahahaha The Scots Guard "GET YERSEL' AWAY....DO WAN". What he means is 'kindly vacate the area with your wobbly dancing. Please leave'. Also, free advice - DO NOT BOOP THE QUEEN'S GUARD! No idea what some of these tourists are thinking. They know that those pointy knife shaped thingies on the end of their rifles hurt right? And the soldiers are trained to garotte people with them (not tourists but they still be pointy)?? One of the funniest lessons as a Skill at Arms instructor to take.
The bearskin plumes are coloured as per their Regiment. Each Reg has their own tunic button arrangement as well. The plume colours for each Reg are: Grenadier Guards - White. Coldstream Guards - Red. Scots Guards - No plume at all. Irish Guards - Blue. Welsh Guards - White, green, white striped.
Sorry, I comment then feel the need to comment through the video and just keep editing my original lol.

to answer your questions The feathers indicate what regiment they are in and the coats are depending on what season if it’s cold they put on the gray coats if it’s summer or spring, they put on the red coats

Many of them served in Afghanistan, and around the world. Many of the tourists are very disrespectful of them. The gray coats are winter the red is summer, at least that is what I was told. The Men and Women are highly trained and put up with a lot of crap from the tourists. Actually, it isn't the American tourists who are disrespectful, what I observed when I was there are the people from India and several middle eastern countries, but I think that is was a language barrier in many cases.

The funny side of this is how quickly tourists change their behaviour when the Police Officer armed with an Assault Rifle and Semi-auto Pistol chastises them for their behaviour, and in some cases revokes their right to be there (entire tour groups have been ordered to leave the area because of one person).

The Royal Guards are the premier regiments of the British Army. They have been around since c 1660.
They are regular soldiers, & rotate between standing guard at Royal buildings & serving in troubleshoots around the world, i'e Afghanistan.Their weapons are not generally loaded, except in times of high tension. You will see heavily armed police with the guards at all times. People seem to think they are actors because of the ceremonial uniforms, but that is a mistake. The blue hackle (feather thing) is the mark of the Irish guard regiment. Other regiments have different colours. The grey great coats are worn in bad weather. The cavalry, two
regiments are called Horse Guards. One wears red tunics, the second wears blue tunics. Both wear cuirasses, helmets,
& carry swords when on ceremonial duty. At other times they wear normal military uniforms like the rest of the army. I don't believe they have ever killed a tourist.

There’s different levels so as the higher in ranking the difference in outfits the ones with the red and gold tassels on the head don’t wear hats they wear gold armor hats with the tassels so the captain and the royals know what rank they are when they pick a group of guards that they feel comfortable with and yes there’s more than one female the men in the army fatigues check on them especially when it’s almost time to switch shifts but they also give them water but it’s also their job to help control their horses when they get mad or spooked or they tiered of people harassing them they also help take them to the stables and feed them

They only wear ceremonial uniforms when on Guard outside Palace and Ministry of defence etc etc and of course for occasions like trooping the colour our beloved Queen funeral Charles coronation etc but no they are Not police but soldier’s who have fought for our Country and with US military in Iraq afganhastan etc. They obviously wear normal uniforms when in battle

I find it hypocritical when Americans come to the UK and make fun of the guards, when they wouldn't dare do the same to the sentinels at the tomb of the unknown soldier in the US. Yet its exactly the same thing. One's guarding a monument to fallen soldiers, the other is guarding our King and country.

I hate this, an American getting things incorrect, and in a few clips these aren't even British guards. Yes they kill, they are serving soldiers and fight like all of our other troops. Yes it's disrespectful and I've called it out when i see it, it's for likes and clicks and it's getting worse, some ppl want clicks and likes for different reasons, some reacting to clips and some being idiots for viral fame, the others are just not aware of where they are and not paying attention, basically dumb tourists. The all have a plume in their bearskin but not all red, there are 5 regiments of footguards all have different plumes to identify which regiment they are, their buttons also tell you. The rifles aren't normally loaded but they will carry ammo if the security situation requires it. There are various regiments that do ceremonial duties, they are called the household divisions, 5 regiments of footguards, 2 cavalry and 1 artillery, that explains the different uniforms.
