Also this was planned for the beginning this wasn't done just to extend the anime length to give more time for cooking. Keep in mind we aren't even half way through the manga or even close.
We are at chapter 31 out of 97 of the manga, so there is a lot of stuff left. Many questions will be answered as the show goes on, there are some heavy stuff that was hinted at during these first chapters, things you wouldn't catch on a first watch
This next episodes are a little slow, they are the calm before the storm so to speak
I love it when they do a set up like this. Initial is always seem like something very expected and light, then it really delves into the core of its theme
Considering how many other manga go, I don't blame anyone for assuming something like this, or that the cooking part would be dropped early on.
But the story is well planned and it really shows. The amount of set ups, payoffs and callbacks is amazing and none of it ever feels like an asspull. (Except one chapter maybe, but it could be that I just didn't understand it in the manga)

I haven't seen many people pick up on this for some reason, but when Marcille started laughing when countering the ancient magic, it was due to her kind of losing her mind in the process of understanding and deciphering said magic in such quick succession.
You can see she starts to bleed from her nose in that moment as well. You can kind of liken it to when a Call of Cthulhu character learns of forbidden knowledge and goes mad. The ancient magic sort of had that same affect in the moment, especially since Marcille was doing it so many times back to back.
None of this is "confirmed" per say, though btw. I merely thought it was an interesting read on the situation whereas many other people seem to assume Marcille was just "getting too into it", which I suppose in a different way, yes she was lol.
It makes me think of that one scene in Summer Wars where the kid is doing so many hard math calculations in quick succession that they strain their brain hard enough to start bleeding from their nose.

as a fellow anime only, this feels like that part in Diamond Is Unbreakable where the status quo shifts and we now have a darker and more overarching focus that is less of a vague initial premise but more of a promise. i'm excited to see what direction the story will go.
I also really like that they're going back to the surface to restock, it'll be fun to retread old ground again. I want to see how the vegetables are doing c:

bet you completly forgot about the lunatic magician who made the dungeon up until you got to this point XP now we have a clear villain to deal with, it not just about killing a random dragon.
and yeah the lunatic magician is the reason the dragon was acting so peculilar, so you can blame him for what happened to Falin too cause she wouldn't have been digested so fast if he didn't make the dragon run around everywhere.
Between the intro and the paintings episode, its most likely that this was always planned and the red dragon was NEVER intended to be the final boss at all. WHich makes sense, you don't start the story with "oh there's an evil mage living here" and then NEVER meet the evil mage.
People seem to have also forgotten the first scene in the show. It sheds a whole lot of light onto the plot with context from all these episodes.
so far the anime is exactly like the manga. only super small stuff was cut. the anime is not slowing down or extending anything.
I was a bit afraid when they go 3 chapters in recent episodes, but they are action episode
It is nice to have slower pace 2 chapters with mainly talking and interaction
This was 100% planned, even in the original manga. The earlier episodes include seeds for stuff that might not even get seen in 2nd cour of the anime.
The boneless ham joke had me rolling. There's plenty of manga material left to adapt by the way! At the pace they're going they definitely cannot adapt it in just one season.
Probably 2-3 seasons if its 20+ episodes each

@@marcodragneel8035yea not a manga reader but since its 2-3 chapters and its 97 chapters then itll take roughy 30-40 episodes. somewhere in that range. thats 24 episodes then 12-13 more so 36-37. chainsaw man is roughly the same length and its gonna be about the same amount of episodes

@@AnimeCriticalalso gotta mention that some stuff from earlier chapters got cut and will be shown later in the anime by the looks of it so id suggest still watching the anime for that for a bit longer too(not that important to main character pov, but gives some insight to what the other characters were doing and will flow into its own story line)

This is where the story shifts a little. Until now the cooking and stuff has explored the ecology of a dungeon. But as we have now established, Marcille studies ancient magic and came to study the dungeon.
So from now on out: What IS a dungeon? What is the purpose of it, how do dungeon masters work, how do they come to be? Cooking will still remain a focus until the very end, but we get deeper into the sauce so to speak. How does the oven cooking the meal work?
A lot of new characters will be added to the mix, too, including the fan favorite new party member. Its gonna be a wild ride!
so much more fun is in store for the rest of the season!!!! so happy there isn’t a break between cours many more exciting discussions to come!

22:31 I'm hoping they'll still be doing the monster dish and dungeon ecology in the future instead of going all in into the lore heavy stuff. i really love the way they breakdown all of the ecology of the dungeon and made it really interesting.
i will confirm one thing: the theme of food and eating is still the core of the story even with the plot stuff going on c:
out of context: There will be a monster and its poop can make a large forest
one thing that really makes the series great is despite how it escalates it never loses being a series about food and cooking at its core
based from the manga we just started the actual story of dungeon meshi. From now the story gonna get wayyy more complex and darker (they still cooking monsters tho)

The balance of the cooking and plot of the story is something often or not commented by viewers of the manga/story. Most people go into this only interested in the monster cooking aspects thinking the whole story revolves around it and then they kinda fall off the greater plot, which is a disappointment to say the least that they can't appreciate both sides of how they are intermingled together.

@@ben0789 This is part of why I prefer the dub. Regardless of what you think about the voice acting talent(which is good), the actual word choices are always better than what's written out in the subtitled translation.
@@xXthevenomousXxmakes sense usually, when you speak out subs it actually sounds a lot less cool or just doesn’t roll off the tongue as well. its why making a good dub is so difficult, you have to keep the original meaning as well as make it sound good. all while keeping it the same length as the og. sometimes if a scene doesn’t show a characters mouth, they can get more creative tho.

i legit wonder how pacing will go for next half cause what i heard its only gonna be 24 eps. the manga is 14 volumes long. next episode starts at chapter 31 of the manga out of 97 (own all books up to date besides vol 14, not out in usa yet). so thats 66 chapters they gotta cram into the remaining episodes if they can or they gotta chop off decent amount of stuff.
note: main chapters, doesnt count side chapters.

remember about japan anime: they still kinda weird on not fully calling them seasons and instead label it as cours which are parts. when released in america for box set they call it seasons, over there they dont since they dont really do box set but still do that bs 3-5 ep bd discs collections.
I highly doubt they plan to finish the whole manga this season. There was a trailer for the second cour they released today and none of what they showed goes past a little over the halfway point of the manga.

is there enough material to do avg 12 eps? no. crunch some of it down and convert into a avg 2 hour anime 1 or 2 part movie? sure.
one of those i wont be surprised if they attempt that, same time be disappointed if they do it a bit. its studio trigger, known for flashy fights so if they do a anime movie of the last major part of the manga then they gonna make the big battle and final fight flashy.
