About the ancient magic/dark magic thing, it's called "ancient magic" by Marcille and "dark magic" or "forbidden magic" by the others. That's cause Marcille doesn't see it as evil, but others do.
This episode Casey Mongillo gives one hell of a performance as chillchuck. Incredible

i loved seeing chilchuck show his feelings in the manga chapter so this ep i was definitely so excited for. both va's did a great job! (especially the screams😂) and his one-on-one talk with the orc was so sweet, she immediately became a favorite

The english voice actors' performances are pretty competent but there are some recurrent confusions/weird phrasing choices that kinda put me off 😭
15:00 "Or tell them she was satisfied after eating the dragon meat". In the original, it's clear that he's actually saying to tell them that "YOU" (as in Senshi), not "she", are satisfied after eating the dragon meat, because eating the red dragon was, well, Senshi's stated goal at the start and the whole reason that he joined us in the first place.
21:08 "but three people are in danger here!" technically isn't wrong (although it doesn't totally make sense either because there are four of them lol), but in japanese he frases it from more of a personal perspective: "but I have three people to worry about/to lose!", which is much more preferable to cap off his little mini arc here in that he's realized that what he's worried about isn't self-preservation, but actually the lives of his three dear friends.

I think that this is the episode where we have gotten the most comments about the phrasing choices of the dub version, and reading the comments I can see why this episode in specific hits different in sub. We both love the VAs in the dub but we are considering watching the second season in sub.

Yeah. I like the voices (except Namari's, which was a bad choice) but some of the translation is really weird. I guess they rephrased some stuff to make it more natural for the voice actors, but some of it affects the meaning in weird ways.

I'm watching sub and IMO the scene with Chilchuck hit harder than in dub...might be a cultural thing though since I'm Asian and these VAs are western localizers.

Dub also had a teeny mistranslation with his "There's three people in danger" line.
The manga and sub's line was "I've got the three of you to lose".
I'm watching the sub and dub and really like the dub, the VA's are really doing a fantastic job, but there's some weird mistranslations from time to time that make no sense. It's complicated cause when they do the localization well it creates some lines that I think are even better compared to the sub, but when they fuck it up it ends up really confusing. That aside, great reaction as always, guys! I saw the PV for the second core and it looks crazy already! The cat girl I see eveywhere is finally entering the story too, can't wait to see what she's all about.
We like the dub as well however, we are debating on changing to sub because of the confusion. We actually have a poll up to help make the decision! We would love your input! - Andrew
