They thought Russia was joking about Ukraine until the invasion happened.
Russia consistently said they wouldn't invade, they never threatened an invasion directly. They also then said it was just a peacekeeping mission. That it would only be in the Donbas. That cities wouldn't be harmed. All lies.

If they so much as put a tiny scar on one single British or Irish citizen by firing a BB gun into that country it will be World War 3. I'm from the UK and would point out that a 500m tidal wave would not only destroy the UK but probably Iceland and parts of Norway / Demark and other nations in Europe, well the fallout would be washing up on French beaches within a day. Even if a normal nuclear missile was used the predominant wind direction would still blow fallout over half of Europe.
@jan simonides I just find it odd that in Russia's video the tidal wave wipes out the UK and then just suddenly stops. The video tries to show the UK wiped out and the rest of Europe okay, which isn't how it would work.

@Slim Pickens your missing the point of the danger of a global nuclear war, whilst the explosions and fallout will kill millions, the real danger will come from the ejecta thrown up into the atmosphere, all the rubble from destroyed cities and all the material that encompasses, that will block out sunlight and decrease the earth temperature. Tell me, what do you think happens to crops when that happens, what will you feed animals with? How will you feed millions of people putting aside the fact that Africa is already reliant on outside countries for food aid even without a nuclear war.
Threats such as these should be taken very seriously.

You know it’s funny, I’ve travelled to India many times from the UK, the consistent vibe I get is that the Indians are grateful for what ultimately brought their country forward, like the legal system, transportation networks etc. I’ve never met a single Indian who despised me for the past, in turn I’ve always called India my spiritual home - amazing county, amazing hospitality and amazing people. In my opinion, India is one of the last true bastions of freedom and you have not experienced life until you have set foot in that country.

Ukraine has been committing mass murder in Donbas for 8 years, and murdered people that disagreed with the Ukraine fascist regime..in Odessa for example they burned 39 people to alive. There is also a significant neo n zi presence in Ukraine and Russian identity/culture under attack. Moreover, NATO was always a no go for Russia which is understandable and not wanting the 4th Reich armed with nukes a serious concern. All that said, all this could have been avoided by addressing the issues..the Minsk agreement of 2015, which Ukraine tore up, reflects well the ask.

it gets dangerous when countries act like if there s a winner in a nuclear war. The people talking about it have their bunkers. Its actually like making a threat to your own people who are going be the victims of any retaliation. As a father i feel guilty bringing them in this world thats about to collapse.
Russia believes they can win for a couple of very good reasons. First, as alluded to in this video, they purportedly have cobalt salted nukes, which means high radiation that will not dissipate for over an entire century. Meanwhile we have just "regular" nukes that yes, would wipe out Russia's cities but they could start rebuilding literally within months, not a century. Add to that the fact Russia has bunkers for millions of its citizens and practices nationwide nuclear drills, they feel much more prepared.
