Disassemble Hoover Powerdash Pet - Brush, Belt, Cord, Motor

- Its blisteringly obvious these are made to fill a price point, they are clearly meant to be disposable with the way they are put together. Things like replacing a cord, are just not cost effective. These can be had for $80-100 and my understanding is they do actually clean really well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I would have broken it for sure had I not seen this. I have a fairly short fuse and I know I would have burnt through it without this. Took it apart hard wired the stupid cheap switch and off an running again. Oh and put in an inline switch instead.
Yea sad to say these are made to be disposable units. You can fix them though as you’ve seen

You need to clean it right after use when still wet. I elevated it on a patio chair and spun the brush until I got most of the lint. I then used a spray bottle to rinse the gunk that was left while tipping the machine from side to side. Don't let the stuff dry or else it's double the work.
It cleans really well. Great if you don't have pets and just want to use it once in awhile. It is worth the trouble of cleaning it and removing the screws because using it takes no effort nor strength and I can sit down and fiddle with it afterwards. I am in my 70's, so that is important.
Thank you! I thought I broke mine but it turns out that I just needed to fix the belt.
Where did you find a belt at
Very helpful video. Opened new after having for a year only to discover that Parr of the upper body assembly was pulled out for some reason. It's not broken but after removing two main screws I knew there had to be another set of screws making it possible to open/fix body of this thing. Thank you so much!
looking for a video to fix on/off switch... Found out if there is too much stuff or wound around the bushes it stops working so the motor doesn't burn out! Was an easy fix I took out a few screws and unclogged the brushes and wala it was back in order!!!! Nothing in the help or trouble shooting but called hoover and the young lady took me to tay this! 👍
I need help with the same problem you are available to help me?
@@karinavenegas2783 sorry I didn't see this call hoover and they can help but basically it's taking out the screws on bottom and pull brushes out then clean any off the brush, remove hair or strings and then put brushes back on and screw cover back on the machine and works great! 😊
Loved mine! I had it for 2 months and as I have saw others say.. smelt as if it were burning! They are good but go out quick.. when I am able to, I plan to invest in a higher one that will lst longer! -- It is either the belt with mine OR water in the motor.. which are both common.
I was really impressed on what a good job this carpet cleaner does on my area rugs! It is a little bit of work to clean it out when you are finished but actually it only took me about 15 minutes total to clean it. So not too bad. If I knew how to send a picture of the difference it made I would. Now all I need to find is a inexpensive small polisher/ buffer to make my concrete floor shine again. Any ideas? Thank you so much for the video.
I like the bissel crosswave. Not sure if that's something you're looking for but I have one and love it! It cuts down 30 minutes of floor cleaning for me when I'm doing a cleaning job.
Can anyone please tell me how to separate the bottom half from the top half. Not sure but I took all the screws out but I think I'm missing a few
Thanks for the video. I decided to try to repair mine rather than buy a new one. It needed a new motor. I was able to disassemble it and switch out the motor. However, I’m having trouble getting the cover to snap back in. The side by the belt will not completely close. It seems that it’s hitting on something but I can’t figure out what. Has anyone has put one back together any suggestions and have any suggestions?
I put on a new belt like this worked a few min then over heated the belt ! I just cannot figure out why I lined the clean bar up ECT ! Got belt from amazon says it is right belt !
For the longest, I was stuck on how to remove the wheels. Come to find out the pinch part was installed wrong so I couldnt use my pliers to squeeze the points together
How did you remove the handle extension from the base?
How do you take off the grey handle I’m trying to put it back in the box
How do untake the handles each off on the top and I want to clean out the4 tubing so what kind of tool did u use. Screw drivwr but there is is a round looking type of screw it ars seen beforsw what tool did u usa foes thT and how did u disassembsl the handle
Thank you very much for video, very helpful. I fixed mine.
You're welcome!
Having trouble getting the cover back on mine. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the video. My stopped working out of the blue. I opened it up and found out that the switch was moving up whenever I pressed the on pedal and it wasn't reaching the switch anymore. Put the switch down to its place and put some tape and a piece of wood on the whole that it is on the white cover that touches the switch. Now it is working, since the switch won't move anymore.
Do you have a video for this, i cant find a video of how to get to the foot pedal, or power switch, what ur talking about. Mine was working fine, i cut it off and now it wont cut back on, i kept messing with the pedal it came on but i cut it off back on no power
I wrote to you under here
@@Tturn1977 unfortunately I didn't make a video of it. It was quite difficult to disamble, but it is not impossible. Take off all the screws, even the ones on the handle, than you are going to reach the pedal. That is where I found the problem as I mentioned before. Hope I can help.
@@Tturn1977 the wheels are the most difficult part to disamble. There is a little piece of metal that holds them inside.
Roberto - can you send me this info also please?
I like ours for little messes. Unfortunately when press the trigger for solution it doesn't stop coming out. The whole bottle empties.
What kind of belt do I need I have the same cleaner
Thank you, helped me take it apart. The 2 hidden screws was all. The power switch is not working on my daughter's machine I hope I can find one. Maybe you have one to sell? Otherwise I'm just going to bypass it and have her just plug and play 👍
How did you replace red screen filter
I’m trying to get the wheels off but I can’t tell what you squeezed together to release them .
Mine has a different design than the one in this video, it has a little metal lock ring I was able to push out with a flathead screwdriver, but it wasn't easy.
Thanks dude!
Saved me money by watching this video!
Yes, what I’ve been looking for!!
I took one apart after it made funny noise, puffed smoke, and smelled funny. It seems the bearing in the motor went bad. The motor was press fitted together so I couldn't confirm the diagnosis, but the shaft was very difficult to turn and it made a scraping noise when it was turned. A new motor was half the cost of the machine, and the machine did not come apart well. It went into the trash can. If I paid someone to fix it for me, they would have had to charge me double what a new one costs just for the labor because it was a PITA getting it apart.
Yea all this stuff is made to be tossed when it breaks. Most of it is not repairable, at times you'll luck out and an aftermarket supplier will occasionally have the part you need but unfortunately most stuff made now a days is junk.
Is a pain to clean this machine I have it and I want to thank you for showing how to clean it 😊
how do you remove just the handle
Thank you 🎉🎉
I got one it was running fine and then just quit what could be wrong with it
Excellent video.
How did you take the handle off
If the belt is broke would it still turn on
My doesn't work. Don't runs. Can you help me to see if is the motor?
I wish there was a video showing how to remove the pedals. The spring popped on the on pedal so only turns on if you hold pedal so can’t use it and do that at the same time. There is no videos on how to fix it :(
Love good scrapper vids. Ty and gj
Back again. Motor not the valve this time. 😐 Whatever. I'm not buying another cleaner. Planned obsolescence bs
This helped. Thanks
where do you purchase your new belt? ive checked all over amazon and the ones that ive purchased have been wayyyy too short for my hoover. i even checked on their online site and theyre all sold out of this specific belt for the powerdash! any suggestions?
The new belt will always seem smaller. They are stretch belts
I had to order mine from hoover
You might also try your local vacuum repair shop. Mine was able to get me new belts for my old Hoover vac.
How do you reassemble it
Are these considered “throw-away” vacuums? Ones made with planned obsolescence? Or are they decently built?
They’re decently built but most parts aren’t available. So both tbh
Mine started to smell like it was burning. My first thought was the belt but I checked it twice. It's clean and cannot find what's burning. No smoke just a burning smell. I am a single mom of 2 toddlers and I had to pinch and save to afford to buy it in the first place. I can't afford to buy a new one and want to fix it myself. I have only had it 6 months.
Make sure the brush roll turns. It’s possible something is binding up
The brush roller can get moisture into the bearings (seems to be an issue on the right side of the roller, which doesn't seem as well-sealed against wet getting in). It should spin very freely when you hold the squares on either end (or with the belt removed and the roller back in the machine). If it were seized, you'd burn the belt almost immediately, but if it's got a lot of hair wound around the ends, it may have a little resistance without being seized - and that may be heating up the belt.
I have the same issue and checked the brush and it spins very well. Any other suggestions??
@M is for Magical Mady after doing some research it seemed like the answer was the motor was having problems. I contacted Hoover and I was within time frame for them to send me a free replacement. I’d recommend reaching out to them
I have the same problem. Make sure you clean out all the hair inside after every use and put a fan on the machine while it's sitting upright on a chair to dry it out if there's water getting inside the motor.
got one of these and the power button is hard to press. is it pretty easy to just get to the power button or do you have to disassemble the whole thing to get to that button lol
Need same help the power button is stuck please help it's happened b4 and without fixing it was able to press power again but after a month power button won't press help please
How did you separate the white cover from the base to expose the motor? I've already taken out the screws...
It just pops out
How to remove the handle??
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEOOOOO
I took apart the bottom to reveal the brush and belt, fixed that and cleaned out the brush and now the motor won't even turn on!!!! Before we screwed everything back together, the dumb thing was working and as soon as we put all the screws in the motor wouldn't start 🤦🏾
My original problem was that the brush wasn't spinning properly. I contacted Hoover and they gave me a 40% discount to buy a different product
I had the same problem, I was missing the little orange filter cup under the dirty water tank. Works great now
Curious to what my problem is. I smelled smoke and looked and it wasn’t the belt. Opened it up and found sparks where the motor is at and it was grinding on one of the parts in there. Tried turning it on and it gave up. It will no longer turn on. Any chance anyone knows how to fix this?
Same :/
@@hithereimjack2252 Hey! So I think mine was a faulty motor. There is a 1 Year Warranty on the machine. I ended up getting a free replacement direct from Hoover.
Hi , my powerdash won't turn on.
I have a 3 months old machine like this one are they in still under warranty
Should be a year warranty. Do you still have the receipt
Please do a video on how to get to power button please
you skipped a part where you took apart the plastic suction piece. i saw you remove the very top piece but didnt see how you separated the other piece. basically has 2 pieces snapped together/stacked on top of eachother. tried to separate it myself but felt like i was going to break it.
nevermind i see it at 3:58, sorry
Thank you. This stuff is built to fail, and then the old “it’s only $90, not worth fixing”. We’re such a wasteful species
Yup, unfortunately that's the world we live in, everyone wanted cheaper products and this is the result of that. Gone are the days when a vacuum would last 20-30 years with normal maintenance. Now a built breaks or they clog the machine and they just throw it away.
@@hanksgarage_ Or due to the laziness/ignorance of people. I bought a fairly new Hoover vac at my local charity thrift store for $15.00. Plugged it in at the store and it seemed to be working just fine. Went to clean it when I got home and O M G!!! The bag inside was a solid square brick!!! Also found the belt had broken (hmmm...wonder why!!!) Replaced the belt and bag and BOOM...like new!
@BlueMeaney49 ya alot of people don't bother trying to diagnose the problem without throwing stuff away. You need to maintain stuff. I'd recommend a sebo or Miele vacuum. They have excellent warranty and are built to last.
i can't remove the window no matter what i do, i have done what you did and it won't buddge
Thank you I had to clean mind
Hey if you still have the motor out if that thing ya wanna sell it?
Cool
Boy you really taking it all apart I’m a senior I can’t do all that just to clean and replace things I won’t remember what part goes first 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thank you so much for sharing your video I think they make it harder so you have to take it in for repair 🤣🤣🤣🤣is not worth it 😜
Yea these are made to be thrown away when they break
You flipped it over and the top is removed but you do not show how you did that....
I would have liked to see you remove the switch mine needs to be replaced
Question where can I buy a belt at ?
amzn.to/32MbuB7
@@hanksgarage_ thanks
Security torque
Great job! ❤️❤️
I'm in same boat
So I considered replacing the power cord for my sisters cleaner because my dog chewed it. After watching this and seeing the cost of the power cord is $40 I’ll pass on repairs and replace it for her. Ugh 😂
Why can’t it just be a simple fix… Thanks for the tear down it’s going to help me get to the motor.
You’re welcome. Unfortunately the stuff is meant to be used and thrown away. Outside of a new brush roll and some small stuff you can’t even order individual parts for these.
I found a motor on eBay
@@hanksgarage_ Yes, parts are available from several vendors on ebay
Why didn’t you show us how to take the top over off?
Because once you remove the screws you just pull it up
Can you do a video on how to remove the cover that is over the roller and is under the top cover? It is pretty dirty and I want to clean it. Thank you.
Idiotic design for the power switch...failed on the second use. A tiny piece of plastic holding the switch in place? Really? The whole switch moves out of place so the pedal can no longer press the switch properly.
Its all done on purpose, these aren't made to last... they're disposable.
I fixed mine with a little piece of wood and tape.
I had the same issue. One of the small tabs that hold down the switch was bent so that the pedal could no longer press the switch without pushing it up out of the way. Luckily I was able to bend the tab back up without breaking it, and now it works. I'm sure it won't be long until it fails again.
@@sheepnutts Ridiculous designed. Possibly on purpose like Hanks said. Maybe try a piece of wood like the other comment suggest.
Can someone make video on how to add wood please help I need it accident got bad
I'm here because mine started smoking and cut off. May be too late. 😥
probably burned the belt up
Man they sure didn't design the belt assembly with any fucks given
Yea these are meant to be disposable
Plugged mine in for first time today, hit the power, ran for a second and died...think it's a dead power switch...so annoying such a critical part is made so cheap and crappy.
Same
@@jessicheyenne8611 turns out mine was a seized motor....they wouldn't warranty it..
I busted it over the porch rail last night. The whole set up of this machine is stupid. And 80$ is alot of money to be wasting for nothing. Smh
Hell ya seek and destroy thanks
I just can't pull these stupid wheels off ugh
Same!! Mine have nothing to squeeze together!
@@chickensandwichtillidie7974 I ended up breaking the whole machine but those wheels did come out.
There is a little piece of metal that holds them. Look it up in the internet and you will see what I am talking about. I drove me crazy, but I finally did it.
@@robertouyeda5645 I know which piece you are talking about. Can you provide the link
@@mtimster CZcams won't let me put the link here. But search for the wheels on the Internet. The New modelo are diferent from this vídeo.
