- The Mercedes-AMG Mercedes-AMG 63 S packs SpaceX-worthy thrust courtesy of AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Now, the SUV update version has arrived, with some useful upgrades and a deep suspicion that someone, somewhere thought the car needed some changes.
And they may be right, because in SUV, it has a bunch of hard-charging competitors to deal with, including the F-Pace SVR and BMW X3 and X4 M twins.
So under a scorching hot Bathurst sun, we examined the box-fresh Mercedes-AMG 63 S for signs of nefarious activity, hoping things have not changed for the worse just because there are a couple of challengers in town.
The Mercedes-AMG 63 S is the same boisterous, silly car I drove 18 months ago, just with a few new bits to improve the package. As ever, the Mercedes-AMG 63 S is all about the experience - big noise, huge grip but all in comfort with plenty of gadgets.
The only real issues are price, service pricing and the length of the warranty. The first two probably won't bother most owners and one hopes the third won't be problem, but it would be nice if the length was reflected in the price.
If you care about badge, it has impeccable credentials, the AMG stripes and that plate on the engine with the builder's name. They're good credentials. The Mercedes-AMG 63 S has some very determined and capable competition, but none of them blend the speed, overall comfort and sheer sensory silliness of the AMG.

I got a 2020 GLC63 AMG after testing out other competitors in it's price range. Agreed, hands down the best!
Great review. I have the 2019 GLC63S with MSL Performance Stage 1 ECU remap, which brings the raging horses up to 580BHP. It's nicely run-in now at 15k miles. Mine is the pretty standard EU-market Selenite Grey, but I'm absolutely loving the colour of the one in this video. Might have to get mine wrapped.

I work as a truckdriver for a carhauling company in the Netherlands and pretty much every week i have to pick up a load for Australia at the Mercedes factory in Bremen, Germany thats headed for Zeebrugge, Belgium where they go onto a ship. And everytime when i get my loadinglist in Bremen and i see that there is a AMG GLC63 among the load, its one of the best feelings in the world.

Not sure if it offers better value than BMW X3M.
Better engine, better interior, and better build quality. Handling does not matter in a suv since you will be using this on the road but this prob handles better too. In my opinion it also looks much better.

Car manufacturers should not be building SUVs that are sporty. They are simply unstable and can roll at the drop of a hat. If you want something sporty, buy a sedan or sports car. We must stop this made tend.
you dont know what you are saying
If you look at US stats on car accidents you will see large SUVs in particular, are responsible for more road deaths. This is followed by small sedans and guess what? This is a as result of large SUVs hitting them! So go figure! I have personally seen three SUVs roll in front of me over the years, after very minor collisions. Simply putting more power in one is madness.
