- It's time for another petrol vs electric drag race! Mats rolled up in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, and he's going up against the Audi RS5 Sportback and Tesla Model 3 Performance! They've all got slightly different body shapes, but there's one thing they have in common... They're all FAST! The GLC 63 S is the most expensive at £88k, but will its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 help it overcome the RS5 and the Model 3? Or perhaps the Tesla's dual electric motors will give it the edge? You can't outdone a German. It is impossible. Only German can out do German and no one else when it comes to cars. Tesla can be as environmental as much as you want but pops and bangs and those sounds and overall speed aero dynamics and everything is in the end taken by German OEMs.

its not even fair to compare an electric car with petrol cars in a drag race. Because electric cars skip the process of combustion so they will launch much faster. So normally electric cars will win... i'm in fact very surprised that the audi could launch as quick as the tesla

Sam I don’t think it is. I just find it weird because the best 0-60 time from the Tesla is 2.9 seconds and that didn’t seem like it was somewhat near to that. The Audi even won from the beginning which is even more weird 😕 but idk, maybe it’s too cold outside or battery’s weren’t very charged
Model 3 lost the second rolling race probably because it was in Track Mode.
I loved the RS5 before, now I love it even more

Lower weight and great launch control (the engine is revved, boost is ready so basically you get full torque from standstill) is the key.
Still, the Tesla has 100% torque from start.
Impressive results.

@@dinospd launch control does just that for the Audi , max torque from standstill. Turbo is spooled, revs are right where the sweetspot is so the only thing is gearbox losses, but in any case you have 600nm unleashed from standstill, just like Tesla.
Tbh this comment shows how good Tesla is, even though the car was over 10k cheaper than the others, we still expected it to win just because of how good it is, so much that it's actually impressive that they beat it...
Be interesting to see difference losing the sunroof on the Audi would do given the weight in it

The Audi was in comfort mode, it won’t pull as good as when in Dynamic.
Sometimes they just fuck up with that, which makes the test not as reliable, even though the Audi won it all
I think it's on purpose, to see which can take off quickest when you're just cruising in comfort
I have a TTRS the mode you put it in only effects the steering and suspension, makes no difference to the acceleration at all, that’s all to do with the gearbox being in the S setting and even that doesn’t make a difference if you really plant your foot
Glen Clough I have an A4, and it absolutely does make a difference. It doesn’t accelerate as hard as in Dynamic as opposed to Comfort. When you put it in dynamic mode the gearbox automatically changes to sport mode. You can put it in comfort mode but still have the gearbox in sport mode, but on the dash it says D which tells me it’s in Comfort mode and normal gearbox. If it was Comfort + Sport Gearbox it would show S.
R. RiDER I agree the gearbox here was in D mode but if you really plant your foot down it makes no difference what setting the gearbox is in or what drive mode you’re in either. I’ve tested it tons of times in my TTRS

I really appreciate that you run a race with the cars in their respective sport modes. I understand why you first run them in standard drive as well, but at least it showcases what performance they truely have available.

Seems unfair though if it was a C63 especially the new one. I mean not only that they have big horsepower they're also awd and a lot lighter than the glc 63 so you already know who wins. This video is like to show how weight affects the performance. So even though you have like 60 horsepower more you would still lose if you weigh like 300kg more. Just kinda like that you know
