I've played over 120 hours of Manor Lords in the last couple of weeks and I've racked up A LOT of mistakes. My loss is your gain and in this video I'll be sharing the biggest things I've learned in that time.
00:00 - Intro
00:14 - Mistake #1: How to ACTUALLY use the granary and storehouse
01:35 - Mistake #2: Market Stalls don't work like you think they do...
04:03 - Mistake #3: How much you SHOULD be saving for reserves
04:51 - Mistake #4: I gotta have more Oxen (cowbell)!
05:45 - Mistake #5: STOP ruining your farming plots. Do THIS instead
07:39 - Mistake #6: Pay attention to THESE stats for your military
08:30 - Mistake #7: Do THIS to avoid micromanaging wood production
10:00 - Mistake #8: The TRUTH and MATH behind population growth
11:35 - Mistake #9: Don't have infinite resources? Do THIS to fix it
13:27 - Mistake #10: Everyone on CZcams is an idiot (including me) - Hry
solid guide man. much appreciated
i didnt even know restricting storehouses was a thing! TY bro
Love #10 as a tip, remember it's just a game, have fun
Added tip for foresting:
Have a few logging buildings and rotate them. Have foresters on places not being logged and loggers in places that have been reforested. Rotate them out. They cost almost nothing to build, build quickly, and so I would suggest making many of them where you plan to forest.
You can also place where and a foresters hut WHERE THERE ARE NO TREES...and then have a forest plant trees around it so that they will be ready when you need it.
If you are hitting max logs on a Logging camp, swap to a different one OR even move it/build another nearby so that they can keep storing the timber. Having more logging camps means more places to store timber which means less bottlenecking down the line.
I've seemed to notice more success with foresters when they aren't foresting where there is a logging operation going, I think they may be cutting down small trees before they grow, which Idk if that lowers efficiency or not...but it seems like I can staff 2 foresters on an active logging camp forever and the trees will never grow back, at most it just stops them from spreading too far out.
I learned the hard way about trees not plantable in winter, lot of wasted labor hours.
Tip for Farming:
Pull your farms off when crops are in the growing phase, keeping them there does nothing.
Also, I would suggest stacking lots of farm houses with oxen, and making sure you have as many field as you have oxen at bare minimum at all times. I think you are right in that more small fields is better than large fields EVERY time. It allows you more spaces for oxen, as well as more spaces for your workers to plow while they wait for an oxen to finish. The more fields = less chance they are waiting to work. Large fields every time I make them end up being a bottleneck. Small fields are always better there is no argument otherwise.
Tip for population:
Turning someone into an artisan takes them off the labor pool. I started noticing bottlenecks and didn't notice that I was upgrading too quickly and not building enough new homes to replace that labor. Down the line I had a labor squeeze during harvest season that almost killed my village because they couldn't produce enough farm product to offset the demand.
So always make sure to replace an artisan upgrade with a new burgage plot so you keep people in the labor pool and don't have less laborers than you have labor needs.
Imo, while higher tier laborers unlock unique goods to produce, low tier laborers are overall more valuable for maintaining your village because of farming labor demands being so steep and so necessary for the higher tiers. So I would try to keep an excess amount of low tier labor at all times.
Tip for food:
Make veggie farms that are large at the periphery of your village. They run passively and do wonders to alleviate food demand in the late game. I had 10 moderately large veggie farms and made insane amounts of food.
You can make larger farms by making sure the initial plot region along the road is as small as possible, and then using roads (you can add a road and then delete it to outline a plot you want) to snap the grid to allow it to be larger for the farm.
Avoid making veggie plots more than 1 morgen unless you MAYBE have 2 families on the plot from the +family feature. I assume family size will also dictate how much they can plow, but plots larger than 1 morgen tend to not actually get fully harvested and are a waste of space, imo.
Reiterating the Road Tool Tip:
You can add a road and delete it in order to use it to define a plot shape. I use roads to outline assets that the region tool doesn't automatically avoid, such as stable plots which can cause region errors....as well as for lining up large veggie plot borders for single burgioge plots.
As for the video:
Finally, a guide that isn't just filled with dumb basic matter of fact shit and ACTUALLY helps us and cuts to the chase on useful info instead of spending 5 minutes of fluff talking about "the problem" and the solution is just what you were thinking to do already but not very efficiently.
This guide actually shows you HOW to be more efficient.
Why do you refer to foresters as forests, farmers as farms etc?
i like the bandits.. just not the rival lord stuff... but i also wanna achievement hunt a little.
So i beaten him back to his last region but that is a place he kicks my ass all the time with double the army.
Hanns! Get the Handcart!
Nice video, and very helpful tips, thanks man !!
Great content man
This game is insane. I love it.
Love your last statement! Thx! I use some tipps but i love to make beautiful towns....
Thanks for this down to earth yet very useful tips-guide.
I'm enjoying this game for what I can understand so far, but my god, it can be overwhelming! lol
I play this game every day its gonna be my favourite and can't wait to get kingdom come 2
great inf ty 🤔👍👍👍👍👍
Also cross out the things you want to sell in your storage so it can just pop up at the trading station. I learned that so later on😂
This got super complicated with all the numbers 😂 I like the end tho where you say build your town how you want. I want a real looking village not a industrial zone
Genius! Thanks for these ideas.
Good vid, thank you.
Love the game. Watching your content for all the great, fact based info. Gotta say, your tip#10 was awesome. Great channel, new sub. I should've subbed for your Bannerlord stuff, but I'm a bit of an idiot.
I would love to see Crossbows in this game. I was surprised, the the Dev implied Archera, because they we're Not that common in the historical context the game ist set.
Thanks for this. I could really use a beginners guide. I can't figure out how to get more oxen, make money, connect to the trade system, or what makes people work at the stalls or not. I keep building more work buildings than i have famalies to use them. In practicing that stuff in peaceful for YNt moment but that means im also clueless about all combat, and how to initiate taking over a new territory. Excited to see more videos, thanks.
I specifically appreciate the details on logistics, the store rooms and how marketplaces work! Been scratching my head on that one since day one.
Grit layouts are not ugly.
Amazing tips. Love your 'do what you want to do' attitude too. There is no 'wrong' as long as its fun!
You probably shouldn't cram houses together in small plots. Allow larger plots with a house or two less and upgrade the house to have a 2nd living area. This allows for doubling residents and when u lvl up the houses it increases both houses on one plot to accommodate double the living areas with wider back yards. It also increases production of artisan goods because the whole housing plot will contribute to manufacturing. It's also cheaper to upgrade to lvl three since you are essentially lvling up one plot with the same amount of population as two plots.
Love #10, cus its so accurate.
Lost me already.
i did this little thing i learned from city skylines. build a round city. made a road into a circle. placed the market in the center. houses and storage everything nice and close around it. then my villagers broke. they couldn't move and more and more got stuck like that. i did have 4 roads in and out of it. this all happened after one bandit attack. i guess the game didn't know where to put the villagers back and they got stuck in time and space🤣
I love #10. And the fact you included yourself. Because you definitely have great tips and figured out a lot of nuances, tricks and work arounds that I now understand. That said I wouldn’t play the game the way you do, so I love that you included yourself in #10!
Yes exactly! I know that I have a really hard time putting myself in other people's shoes - I don't get how people could enjoy playing the game other than how I enjoy playing it. But I also know when other people tell me to do something that I wouldn't enjoy, it didn't feel good/right lol. I guess I'm finally becoming a mature adult... Maybe :D
@@Strat-Guides A little empathy goes a long way. Pro tip: When people are enjoying something "wrongly," take time to figure out what they might be getting from it. It's a great empathy-building exercise.
How do you control the number of each type of stall you have? How do you choose to add more? Similarly, how to control whether a worker is a stall worker or a regular worker?
new to the game. Great video, however how do I build more stalls at the market? they seem to just pop up randomly.
you haven't mentioned the fact the buggy empty markets or broken crop rotation need to be fixed
Don’t even know how to “add” stalls to the market. I thought they did that themselves
Thank you Sir :)
Thanks for these tips. Especially the small farm field sizes. Makes sense, especially if you don't have heave plow tech yet.
I realized it's also a great tip because sometimes there are heavy rains during harvest season, and the yield is stored out on the fields until it gets transported to the farmhouse little by little, exposing it to the rain & risking losing a large part. The risk of losing much of it due to an accident like this is much lower if it's gathered & stored in small chunks.
One annoying thing, and I dont know how to really fix it.
I was trying to setup trade, but the Polearms would simply not make it to the Trading station.
Best solution is to make a separate storage unit that only holds those? Will the eventually move over?
Theres too many info i think i will have to play and watch and pause the video and check the game and watch again hahaha. thanks by the way! excited to play today
TL:DW
Immediatly build Granary and Storehouse + assign atleast 1-2 workers per.
Close to market
Marketplace:
3 Stalls for the first 15 Houses
3 Stalls per extra after that
75 House town should have 9-12 Stalls
Reserves 12 months minimum
More Oxen + Hitching Posts as much as you can safely afford
Farming:
4 Farmhouses with
2 Workers per Farmhouse
1 Ox per Farmhouse
(8 Workers & 4 Ox)
Many smaller fields (cut a 1 Morgan field into 4-5 smaller fields)
Don't move the logging camp
Set the Foresters Hut working area to center of the logging camp (CTRL + Mousewheel for bigger Size)
Population: atleast 50% Approval to gain 1 family per month, 100% chance at 74%+ approval; Empty House needed. Try to keep 1 House empty at all times, never build only when at max pop.
Food: If Hunting or Berries are double, very good early game.
Clay/Iron/Stone if they have the "Crown" ontop will never run out, base your export-trades on that.
You can make burgage plots bigger or smaller when selecting a large area with the little plus and minus symbol near the build icon.
I need to clarify one thing with this statement - it does not make the plot itself smaller, but reduces the number of houses within the plot, which will increase the extra space each house can have. The overall shape of the plot you sketch out does not actually change with the plus and minus buttons
@Strat-Guides correct, i noticed you were drawing the plots individually to get the correct number of buildings, this way you can preview different plot sizes but original overall size remains the same.
This game seems nice .
Don't move the building when it comes to logging camps or firemaking. Use the advanced option to limit work area to a new area. Then use forresters hut to regrow in the same area.
Agreed - once you have the manpower to spare for a forester hut it's much better. In the early game though, I do recommend moving it or building a new one.
I’ve been listening to a lot of folks and this is my favorite video so far. Excellent info and efficient delivery! Now back to making a beautiful town as efficient as possible
I don't even know how much this game will cost, but I already feel like a pro.
I think the developer said it would be 30 bucks, im not 100% sure tho
I will pirate this game. LE: I agree that the dev should receive support for his hard work.

Can’t wait for this game to come to series X!
Hmm I think there is a bug regarding vegetable and apple . They worker will not go take out their inventory even I dedicated 2 granary to collect on apple and vege .
Love your videos. Can't wait until they let us buy the darn game.
I play the game like it’s Warhammer Dark Crusade crossed with Kingdom Come Deliverence
for food just make huge house plots with vegetables. 10x of those should he enough for the whole play through lol
Dont upgrades burgages to lvl 3 yet, and dont do the expand housing. The additional family slot doesnt increase the food cap in marketplace and you will never hit 100%
My mom is visiting for the weekend when this releases... terrible timing
Mistake #10 can be applied to anything in life and is the real gem here.
Thanks for sharing your tips and insights :)
Good tips. Ive played all day and learned a lot i was stumbling on leveling up my village and i have mostly figured it out. Good tips on farming and importing goods. I did this early on to solve food issues to get things back on track until i could add chickens
Is it not worth it to have fewer houses with larger plots? Since the addons can increase housing and produce food, with more production for larger sizes.
Bro just analyzed the game mechanics in both micro/macro economics😂
Having Manor Lords running in the background while it is playing it's music is next level while watching these tips lol, thank you for the tips! The game doesn't do a good job at explaining some of this stuff, so this really helps!
No problem!
The games not even out yet and he’s already the most knowledgeable person on it 😭 😭 😭
Great job and thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much, tons of good information here! :)
Very much a game of logistics chains and efficiency.
Number 10 will surprise you!
The thumbnail saying “stop” like we can do anything yet! Srsly though I can’t wait
Ahh but it is I, ye olde 'newbie' who has no clue and needed to to be told to STOP! 😅
Its boring as hell tbh. in 30 hours, you will be ready to move on. Its simply rinse and repeat the SAME process over and over.
Eurgh
@@uglen7420 what?
When the happiness of my peasants gets lower than 41%. It should be way higher than 41%
YIKES AT THE MICROMANGEMENT
How can you limit the number of market stalls?? Gosh I thought you could not rally 1 troop if it hadn't reached the limit (36) so I had to wait to get 150+ people in my town and by that time, there were no bandits left and the Enemy lord had claimed all lands lol.
This game will help bridge the gap between now and the release of KCD 2 nicely 👍
Yes!! KCD2 is going to be sooo good - I'll definitely be playing and making guides for that as well :)
@@Strat-Guides I just finished the first one for the first time an hour ago. Truly epic 🙂
what is KCD2? I'm curious now xd

@@Strat-Guides oh I see, thanks!
What are the sizes of the farming plots did you use?
Thanks for this! Have been playing for the first time today and couldn't put it down until deep in the night, but couldn't figure out why my massive farms were producing so little products.
Thorough, in depth and eli5. Subbed
incredibly helpful, thak you!
Hey Dude...
first GREAT Videos on your Channel...
second my question: for example the storehouse with 2 workers going for 2 stalls to bring out leather or firewood... will the tanner and woodchopper still sell their stuff on the market?
or is the storehouse fast enough to avoid this?
like granary and hunter... will the hunter still sell meat or "only granary"
i hope you know what i mean :D
Thank you very much man. this is exactly what i've been looking for. I love efficiency, but I also love aesthetics. Your video saved me a lot of time trying to figure out how to pull it off. Thanks mate.
Just a quick comment on the stalls. They just appear automatically, how can you then control the number of them?
The best guide I have seen in my 5 day search of more detailed info, thank you!
VERY good information. Thanks!
You hit the nail on the head with pacing, commentary and length for this video. Perfection!
Thank you!! I tried very hard to slow down for this one lol I recorded the voice over one section at a time so I could listen to it and adjust before moving into the next section.
Tip number 5 is crazy how in depth that is. The building and everything so far is amazing I haven't tried combat yet it looks fun to watch
I don't get starting spearmen
Best guide I found for Manor Lords! I love this game!
wow the calculation part is a bit exessive but awsome content! thank you!
My goal with including the math is not so much to have people get their calculators out when they play, but more to develop an intuition that will help when making in game decisions. You don't have to know to the 5th decimal place how many villagers are needed to make a certain good, but if you have a basic understanding of the math behind it, you can sort of "spit ball" close enough and hopefully improve the decision. At least that's what I was hoping for lol maybe it was too much :P Thanks for watching!
It does not always give you TWO rich sources, A lot of times you only get ONE.
If you only have 1 showing, it means your other rich resource is the soil.
Mistake #1 was massive and i didn't learn how big this was till i started playing Hard mode a few days ago. None of the markets get stocked enough to fulfil the needs of the houses and your approval just crashes hard. Normal mode doesn't punish you as much to learn this
It took me 10 failed 20-40 minute lets plays to finally get a good strategy for hard - this guide would have saved me a lot of time lol - great stuff!
People hate my grid cities too lmao - it's funny - i try to explain the efficiency
How did you get early access ?
Did the developer gave you a key ?
The game is not out until next week on steam
@@mohamedh.guelleh630 hooded horse gave cc keys
The best part about grids is I don't have to think about anything lol just plop it down and people move in : )
I can't even THINK about trying to play this game on hard... My ADHD gets so frazzled just on normal trying to keep everything operating lol
@@briannichols7702Haha my OCD gets triggered by the ‘organic’ city building elements. I want my burgage plots and roads straight.
I wish it was on PS5
Great guide and some of it will help me on a new playthrough, especially regarding the part about granaries and storehouses! I would also like to add that you shouldn't build too quickly. I made the mistake of pre-planning where I want to build and placed a lot of buildings down and just paused the construction. Apparently, this made the building AI wonky and my builders didn't work on anything at all, despite having plenty of resources and 3 spare families to build. I'm so used to other city planning games like Anno where you can place down a building and then pause construction. With Manor Lords, that strategy doesn't work. So now, I only build when I'm absolutely ready to and only do 1 or 2 buildings or upgrades at a time. Then I wait for those to finish and start on something new. If I want to scope out where I'd like to plan a building next, I just lay down a road or 2, as they're free and don't need any free builders. I've also found that roads help me plot out fields better too and love your idea of creating smaller fields on what would normally be a larger plot :)
I like #10 the most. Thank you for this
Thanks for this. I was too focused on making my village aesthetically delightful, which led to woeful inefficiency
this is the most incredible guide that i've watch. so detail yet easy to understand. thanks a lot man.
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful :)
This is easily the best ML video I’ve seen to date. If I have to hear build a logging farm one more time I’m going to scream. This was useful qualitative data. You’ve transmitted it in well thought out and tight video. You’ve won me over and I look forward to future videos. I’m also sharing with my friends. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the informations !
Your advices are useful thanks you ❤
When you say smaller fields, how many "morgens?" 😂
I've got a guide coming out today or tomorrow covering just that! I collected data from over 200 plots to find the most efficient size, shape and setup (how many families, oxen and farmhouse, etc)
@Strat-Guides Legendary stuff and thanks for the quick reply too! 😊
What I've observed is that the biggest mistake can be to spend the development points the wrong way. Second observation: I've never seen archers kill anyone as soon as troops start wearing armor. Archers seem useless late game.
Archers used to be great in the previous patch, but they got a hard nerf :(
Thank You
Thanks for watching!
This game looks fucking sweet.
Awesome, i love watching mistake guides. Best way to learn is other ppl mistakes
The illegitimate baron is fairly legit, he starts off with an entire army, full units lol
my town always die from hunger :(
Great quick guide ❤
In my playthrough i built 5 level 1 Burgage's (Resident homes) and at first opportunity i upgrade them to level two for the 'extra family' bonus, so 10 families in 5 houses. Obviously you'll have more marketplace stall requirements and higher church level and all of that. Less is More.
Nice video. I've been helping players with these basic questions all of Saturday and you covered the main points people are struggling with.
Some excellent tips, thanks. 👍
