    Hi, we're the developers of Kinstrife! The video outlines the combat system perfectly and we really dig the way the video is laid out - we really hope there's going to be more Kinstrife on your channel in the future as well with your new alignment of the channel!
    It's also amazing to see all the intrigued and encouraging comments, that's always extremely motivating. This is also the first closer look into our combat system that's open to the public, so it honestly means a lot to see those reactions. There were also a bunch of questions and/or remarks that we want to briefly reply to:
    - The game has a single player focus, local co-op is likely to come at a later point and online multiplayer is not in the plans for now.
    - We first focus on PC, but if things go well we hope to port to consoles.
    - In addition to combat, Kinstrife will also have an RPG & mercenary sim gameplay part, where you play as a wandering knight, building up your retinue, fortune and fame. You can see WIP footage of that in our announcement trailer on our channel.
    - We're focusing on smaller scale battles for a start, with battle size of 100 (at 60 FPS on high end hardware), as physics-based animation is very resource intensive. There are still many ways we can optimize so this number will probably increase considerably in future
    - Besides keyboard & mouse, controllers are also supported.
    - Grappling is something we'd love to tackle (hah) later on, though you can actually throw, trip etc. opponents already in the current state - though not really intentionally yet.
    - Our physics-based animations are definitely a work in progress and are improving steadily. Locomotion and balance are some of the hardest things when it comes to physical animation, so those will definitely continue to see improvements.
    Thanks for everyone's kind words and support, we honestly appreciate it!

      Blame the people for continuing to buy bare minimum recycled AAA games. As a buisness, it's not their fault they can do the bare minimum and profit off it. The people need to stop supporting it or there is no reason to stop these horrible AAA times. But people know it's bad, still purchase it, and then complain about it.

    • @HotCod
      @HotCod Před měsícem +20

      Making a human body balance/stand/walk using actual physics is extremely complex. So physics based character controller tend to work by effectively puppeting center of mass around. The goofy looking walk is due to the legs/feet doing their best to follow the center of mass as its being moved around rather than being what driving that movement. It result in uncanny feeling characters who look like they should be falling over half the time.
      Unfortunately this is it's own extemely difficult problem to solve which is why most games using controllers like these don't bother and lean into the janky/goofy nature of it. So while I expect it'll get a lot better as the tune things it's probably always going to look/feel a bit janky.

    Interesting mechanics,
    I would like to see some stances implemented in order to bring more structure to the combat, reducing the wobbliness without being as stiff as the stances from Kingdom Come.
    Also functionning point control, choking/half-swording, deflecting/redirecting weapons, grappling, proper spear use, etc. would be nice features in this game or any future one.
    Honestly, just having the ability to go around the shield's hitbox is a huge step up in terms of combat simulation, as well as mail being defeated by thrusts but being very resistant to cuts.

      An over the shoulder game with moveset/fighting game mechanics, physics, and parry, dodge, deflect, priority mechanics would be a dream come true.
      Parries and deflects relating to your weapon and it's techniques
      Dodges/Footwork/Movement mechanics for spacing and cheeky leg pokes
      Priority so armour could actually let you tank and trade, stopping power could also be nice. Armour being able to protect from projectiles depending on the angle and also the projectile along with the projectile owner's exhaustion/stamina could also be great
      And more importantly, grabs, kicks, pushes, and being able to affect another entity with pull collision. Hook users wouldn't wan their favorite billhook to not hook. Fully armoured players would be hard to kill if they make armour actually armoury. So grabs could help with that, and weakpoints. Maybe armoured dudes can get damaged more with thrusts on weakpoints (e.g. armpits, mail, flat surface of not thick armour) and can exhaust faster and get up slower. Armoured dudes getting up with an exhsustion penalty could be nice.

    Well let me tell you a bit about my background with medieval games; I basically grew up playing Warband, then transitioned to > Chivalry Medieval Warfare > Mordhau > MB Bannerlord > Chivalry 2 and now I'm bored of all of those titles because they are mostly the same and don't really feel like they add anything significant to separate them apart.
    Kinstrife however, really excited me because all of my gripes with these medieval combat games are non existent in this game. From what I see; you can't bs your way into winning in melee because it's real physics based movement and weight. No magical protection from shields, they only cover the areas where they physically cover and characters don't act like they are super human with their movement, so you really need to think through your next moves like you would in real combat instead of press W and spam left click.

    The issue is how they're going to balance large army performance with the physics sim. Bannerlord has a somewhat simple combat system but it also means large army battles have low performance cost. Making each action by an NPC take a couple milliseconds longer to process could just tank the games framerate into oblivion.

  • @chemicaldruid4591
    @chemicaldruid4591 Před měsícem +2

    i like the fact that more and more people are doing their homework to understand and represent how real combat works before building an entire game around it. Its not only for the HEMA nerds out there, but just for the sake of how cool it looks. While having its share of jank, Physics based combat feels a lot fairer than the rest, (Exanima, Hellish Quart etc). My dream medieval game would have this kind system in pvp, group or duel, (like a mordhau version of this without the stupid armors, and the animations abuse), but hey, singleplayer is cool too.
    I really wish the best to the devs and 'ill definitly keep an eye on this.

    If you would be interested in more physics based combat, I would suggest you check out Exanima. It is in early access, but feels very polished. It does have a different camera angle, being isometric-ish rather than 3rd person, but nails medieval combat pretty well, with a complex armor system, different grips on weapons, encumbrance. The combat is also controlled by mouse movement like in the Kinstrife showcase, with a bit less variety in the kinds of attacks you can use, but you can control things like attack speed and direction very well, as well as feint and parry attacks.

      If only For Honor made their triangle not upside-down, or maybe a square instead, and stuck to their more historical and realistic side like the trailer they showed us in 2015 😢... but hey, present day for honor added a bunchs cool new heroes. Been hoping for an egyptian, aztec, and matchlock/early hand cannon user since 2018, and now we got em. They should have given pirate a handcannon or at least a matchlock, or at least a doglock snaplock wheellock- not a flintlock, seems to modern. But then we do have very late period inspired armors in the game and fantasy shit so 😅

    This looks amazing. I can already tell this will probably be my favorite combat system ive ever seen in a game like this. I feel like it addresses almost every issue I had with bannerlord mechanics. Dont get me wrong, i love bannerlord and have thousands of hours in it both mount and blades, but the combat left something to be desired. Same with kingdom come deliverance. When I first discovered mordhau i definitely realized how much more fluid it was and I wanted something closer to that, but maybe slightly less fast paced and arcade-y. This legit looks perfect, i cant wait for this game to come out im so excited.

    RIP Of kings and men 😢
    Best medieval combat we ever got. Kinstrife devs basically need to just make that, multiplayer, open world. Nothing else really, let it be like DAYZ as far as how we get to claim land and interact with the world. Let land claiming be handled naturally - at the point of a sword. Terraforming, constructable castles, cities, and cavalry would all be fitting additions. That should not be impossible. I think things like crafting could be good additions too - if they go the runescape/new world route. Maybe even add elements of fantasy, lady of the lake, gnomes and dwarves?

    The bannerlord shield system is perfect for simulating THOUSAND men battles where they (virtually) move their shields to block the incoming blow. Its not perfect but its good enough for the context. 1v1 looks amazing, but lets see how perfectly the other game performs in a 500vs500 fight

  • @amn7319
    @amn7319 Před měsícem +1

    If the game had some dashes, ducks and dodges, as well as a greater variety of move sets from wide sweeping attacks to short cuts and swings, I think it'd help up the pace of combat and make for a much more dynamic feel.

    To simply put it, i'm hyped for the combat. Combat is literally the only thing i like about Bannerlord. I do not like the campaign, I do not like the marching, politics, recruitment, or anything. I do not even like the single player all too much, since the A.I is easy to abuse. But combat that makes you focus, where each fight is intense! That's what i want, and this looks like it.
    Reminds me of Exanima.
