  • I really do love the microkorg, I think the features it brings at the price point were amazing when it first was released. It gives you enough of a taste of important tools synthesizers use to create sounds. I think it could be a great beginner synth, but then again it is still used by LCD soundsystem to the Killers.
I set myself the challenge of creating a midi controller to help unlock features of the synth and make it more user friendly. My goal was to move away from the matrix tool and have a control for every possible control.
Ok on reflection this is turning a microkorg into a ms2000.
Though I do find the synth a lot more enjoyable to play and feel more in control of shaping the sound.
Normally I would cover more of the coding and electronics, but I don't think I can do Notes and Volts justice:

Overall it was a fun project, there are a couple more synths that need this treatment.... watch this space.

OMG, thank you for this video. I've been on the fence about buying a microkorg for a bit now. Mostly I was disappointed in its limited physical controls, but I realized it had MIDI in, so I looked up if it accepted CC comands, and it does. I then thought i should be able to make a dedicated MIDI controler as an addon. Before going deeper into the project, I figured I'd look to see if anyone else has attempted this, which brought me to your video. You have done exactly what I want to do.
I should have all the parts needed too. Have boxes of multiplexers, pots and digital encoders as well as a woodshop.
    Thank you so much!

The real face of the microKorg !🥳
I'm thinking about build the same thing since months for programming microKorg, microKorg XL and UNO with great feeling.
Happy to see it in reality !
    (I see I need more knobs 😋)
    Beautiful work 👌

Did you paint the keys or are they aftermarket? They look great. I used to own a Vox Super Continental (I wish I never sold it) and it reminds me of that look. If you painted them do you have any tips? If you bought them can you point me in the right direction so I can pick them up myself? Very inspiring video. I bought my microkorg in 2002. I was working at Guitar Center back then. The month they were released I bought one and aside from basic maintenance and cleaning it is still kicking. Something like this would breathe new life into a piece of gear I've owned for almost 22 years now. Very cool. Keep up the good work.

Really impressive, do you think you could find a midi sequncer module arduino kit? The wood and metal plate make it all look very tactile which is exactly what you need when doing sound design.

I have been looking at making that. I think it would be achievable. Watch this space 🚀

Hope you can market and sell these…and hope it’s easily adaptable to the Microkorg 2??

It should work with the Microkorg 2 easy. I am looking forward to the Microkorg 2. I think the thing that made the original so popular was the low price compared to what was on the market. Now there is a lot more choice so it will need to put perform the competition.... Exciting times.
