In grade 8, in my health class we had swimming, but I forgot my bathers so I got to sit out that lesson. I found a red whiteboard marker, opened it up, and threw the cartridge into the pool. I still don't know why I did that, but everyone had to get out because the teacher thought it was a tampon and, yeah. Still never got caught.
Edit: Forgot to mention that there were only, 2 girls from our class in the pool that day... Yeah, a lot of drama pursued after that

Does this only work because of the microwave or can direct heat cause the same affect? Would be awesome to build a fixture and see how far the highlighters launch from the pressure of them popping. Rocket highlighter!
it's probably the microwave it self doing that, putting the "ink particles" under pressure causing them to explode
The microwave rays go through the plastic, and heat up the liquid directly, so it would be different than if it were just normal heat on the highlighters. I think the direct heat might melt the plastic before exploding, or it might not even be able to heat the liquid enough to explode.

Actually they don't use ovens because ovens use heat while microwaves, as the name suggests, uses microwaves (a type of radiation).
