Who am I?
Expert singing teacher, specialising in teaching children and young adults in singing and musical theatre. She has worked with the likes of The Saturdays for MTV, on shows such as Just the Two of Us for the BBC and many more. Throughout her years of teaching she has judged in many competitions, judging Lucy Spraggan, George Samson, amongst others who have gone onto succeed in the business.

Mariah is more pleasant to hear. She sounds more relaxed her singing sounds almost effortless unlike Christina
Mariah was good in her prime...now she is extremely screechy and let;s not even get started on all her fails live for the world to see. Christina does over sing at times but versatility wise she takes the cake. There is a reason she is still relevant and prolific at the moment, Mariah has faded into the shadows which is what she should do, just let herself be the Queen she was, she has accomplished a massive amount in her tenure so she needs to stop making herself look like such a fool by over singing herself.

But back in 90s, she is the only one who sang like that. You can't take that for granted, Mariah basically created this style for pop singing. And for the power thing you mentioned, I'd say yes for tone-wise but no for technique-wise.

Lol it's not the Vocal Coach's fault that Christina Aguilera does not necessarily have the healthiest technique which causes strain of the voice. Mariah doesn't really have that strain which causes her to have the better voice. Don't go finding someone to blame.
Nah xtina's clips were just horrible, especially that oh holy night one, jesus! She was so shaky and off key
Sucky comparison clearly was skewed to favor Mariah, as if Mariah needed that to win, but the point remains: the worst part with Christina is that, as talented as she is, she seems to equate volume and growling with passion and soul. Mariah, even at her worst, still understands the importance of dynamics and growls judiciously. For Christina, especially in the last decade and a half, oversinging and bellowing has pretty much been her default setting.
If you want another Mariah idea, please react to one of mariahxlambily videos with best vocals from Caution Tour, she's getting more confident and her voice is in a very good shape!

Christina was invited to tape a commercial for "Rock the Vote" campaign and sang like 2 lines from the song very quietly to a baby in the commercial. Very different context and not comparable. Just like the vocal coach explained - with the Happy Birthday, one recorded on Iphone, other was on TV.
