I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. Both are not wonderful anymore. You see it always when a lady turns older. Around 40/50 years. They lose their voice. Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Lara Fabian, Pia Douwes, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys. Name it.

@@Jongen. Not at all. This is the only case with Whitney, Madonna and Mariah. Whitney started doing drugs at one point in her life, which led to her vocal decline. Mariah declined due to the worsening of her nodules and a lack of vocal training. Madonna never had great technique but she has been training more frequently since her early 40s. Christina's voice is still intact... in fact, I'd say it's better than ever. Alicia's technique was also never that great and she hasn't performed live that much recently so it's kind of hard to judge. As for Celine, her voice is still there, even if her technique has worsened. She is a prime example of vocal longevity. Her voice became more nasally because of a surgery she had to undergo over a decade ago. Other than that, she can still sing those piercing high notes that she's known for.
What's so lovely is that Mariah has improved in 2019 on her latest tour, I saw her in Dublin and there was minimal lipping and she attempted multiple live whistles.
There is something about Celine’s voice that gives me so much emotion.

@@dohaserma8523 The difference is Celine is always consistent every year and every part of the year. Mariah is sounding so good RIGHT NOW in Europe. But just a few weeks ago she did bad at the Billboards, or her last Vegas run was not good. Her best live moment this decade was the European tour in 2016, that was amazing for older Mariah. Mariah good vocal runs (of time) don´t even last 6 months. I don´t know if it is only the nodules or is she could do better with the care of her voice and be more proffesional on that front.
sanyrub because mariah’s voice is fragile and she has just gotten off a whole ass your so obviously her voice is gonna be tired. celine doesn’t have back to back shows so she can’t relate
sanyrub Mariah’s voice is inconsistent, it can be good or either bad. During the Billboard Performance, she was just nervous and she didn’t focus on her technique there while sing since she was nervous, but Both Of her Caution Tour North American Leg and even European Leg she was consistent with her notes and supporting consistently on her mid-Belts, sometimes she is tired but her voice was in good condition.
sanyrub Celine is good for consistency on notes since she doesn’t have any vocal impairments and had lip-synced most of her performances only when she is using upper belts that’s when she lip-syncs for vocal preservation, she can hit her upper belts live but she doesn’t have the confidence to do her upper belts in her songs, so she either improvises or do it in acapella. Mariah in the other side is inconsistent because she has developing nodules and it could be bigger now than before. Rest can help her voice and nodules to calm down but when she keep singing and not resting that’s when her voice is inconsistent and her nodules get irritated, plus her vocal chords being dry and not hydrated, plus causing raspiness.

Mariah on the mid belts and Celine on the upper. Mariah still has great resonance on her mids, Celine however has better consistency and better upper belts , especially super high belts which Mariah can't do which are G5-C6

Celine can't consistenly support her upper belts, even in her prime, she was always inconsistant above d5, still now, even with the headier mix, due to aging, most of her highest belts she lips. I think they will both be equal actually with probably a few extra points to Celine in some belts as Mariah can't consistenly support above c#5 and can't support overall above eb5 due to chestiness and throathiness as she ascends to the upper belts, while Celine still is consistsnt in the d5 area and still has great momments in the eb5-f5 area.

Will You be My Witness? Yes, but 2018 was pretty close to her 2016/2017 vocals since there was more attempts in 2018. 2018 had a good tone already but she has her 2016/2017 attempts. Caution Tour has a better tone, but less attempts in upper belts or less attempts.

Let's take into consideration that these amazing ladies are beyond their prime and these Vegas shows really take a toll on the singers as they have almost nightly shows during their residency.
They are still legends.
Asia tour 2018 and her caution tour are way better I just saw her yesterday in Paris, her voice is still there, you can feel her fight against those damn nodules and win ! She's amazing !

I don't think it's only the nodules, her mix is too heavy
João Vítor No, it is the nodules. Nodules can limit your vocal abilities such as mixing in upper belts, Mariah has mixed up to an A5/Bb5 but not like other singers or vocalists who can easily even mix upper than her since nodules can prevent you from going higher, you can only go high as Mariah with nodules if you knew her perfect technique to hit there. Mariah’s Mix Belts is mostly chesty mix and added Heady mixes not mixed belts like Sohyang because Sohyang doesn’t have any vocal impairments and she can easily go higher than Mariah and support there, nodules block every vocal abilities unless you have a perfect technique like Mariah.
She said herself that she is able to hit whistle notes because of the nodules

Demi Lovato I’m pretty sure there’s a video about both of them having live notes. Remember, Celine Dion has done live notes but she is also really good at lip-syncing which is why no one would notice unless your a Technical Fan.
@@HallOfMimiCeline is good at following the playback yet she's not mixing live and playback into a song as much as Mariah. We all clearly notice when and which part she's lipsyncing, considering she now likes to improvise and she's been using the same playback version and setlist.

Leonardo Mapurunga Because she doesn’t have any vocal impairments, Mariah could have had preserved her voice easily if she didn’t had nodules. Nodules lessens your vocal abilities through time and she also has aged so Mariah has more problems and her precious voice needs to be taken really well since she has to deal with nodules and vocal chords, both needs to be rested and not get irritated. Mariah has a lot to think of, hydrating her vocal chords and making her nodules doesn’t get irritated when singing everyday or two days or so, vocal chords can’t be idle for too long since it will slow down and could be difficult to sing again.

Aa Imer Mariah’s ‘vocal impairments’ are self inflected so that doesn’t change anything. Celine has looked after voice better, as the comment states. Singers can get nodules for a few different reasons but usually from over working their voice
Take note of this, Mariah and Celine are part of the Holy Trinity so they are the bests among the rest. They have flaws moments and perfect moments. They set the standard so much high for young vocalists so let’s respect and don’t compare them to each other. 😊😊😊🥰🥰🥰

Both singers are recovering from a strenuous last 6 years for them and both were starting over again in 2018. And by hard times, I meant with Celine having to take care of her sick husband then lose brother and husband to cancer. While Mariah with having her own brother and sister tarnish her name by spreading malicious false narratives about her, even her former manager sabotaged and made a fool of her in 2016-17. A failed marriage and engagement. I'm just glad to have these legend are still around and still standing strong.
