Very true, very true.
Blue Eyed Samurai's quality is not to be understated. Thank you for spotlighting a real gem. 🙏
It's actually insane how good the show is, I don't even like the genre and it still ended up as my favorite show this year.
Go watch it.
I watched it when it came out on netflix, it a absolute masterpiece. If you have'nt watch it you need to drop every thing and watch.
I watched it all in like a day it’s so good
It was good but the amount of plot armour some of the characters had was ridiculous
Don't let this man see the new megamind trailer

“Mama Mia with samurai murder is a quality successor to Bojack Horseman.” Now that’s a sentence if I ever heard one.
About the Villainess thing, a lot of weebs go through incredible displays of mental gymnastics to argue that yuri isn't ACTUALLY gay. That goes double for Japanese audiences as well. To them, its purely to get their rocks off.
there's so much yuri bait that people are shocked when something is actual yuri
"b-but!! they're just really good freinds!! japan is so kawaii desu they cant have gay people!! 😡😡"
It is diffirent tho, but thats thanks to patriarchial values of a fact that man should not take a womans role which inevitably compells at least one of the gay couple to take. Its not the same In Lesbian relationship tho

Bro left us on a cliffhanger💀💀💀
I’m so glad someone else made the Mama Mia connection with Blue Eye Samurai… I mean both stories depict a young woman’s struggle to meet all of her potential fathers, so it’s basically the same thing right? 😂
I mean think about it: ‘just one look and I can hear the bells ring’… ‘for whom the bell tolls’…
Schaffrillas watching I’m in love with the villainess is something I didn’t know I really needed, and the fact there wasn’t anything actually bad to mention about it makes me so happy
I mean… there was the dubbed complaint…
But otherwise, the show basically got the Schaffer seal of approval by making the top ten of shows he watched this year and as such I want to watch it more
And maybe read either the manga or light novels, idk which one yet

Akemi in the blue eye Samurai is awesome, she’s not a princess who doesn’t want to be one, she just wants to not lose her independence, to not be property of someone, and yet she sorta fails but at the same time succeeds, she is my second favorite character, just behind Mizu
Take notes, Disney. Take notes. That's how you should write a strong female character.
Take notes, Disney. Take notes. That's how you should write a strong female character.
I think she's a cool character but what annoys me is how easily manipulated she is, like she keeps saying that she wants to do what she wants but then also constantly changes her opinion of what she wants, sometimes blowing up in the face of people who are trying to support her.
Interesting to watch, but annoying as a person XD
I personally wasn’t annoyed with her, but I feel like all of that is a learning experience for her, It will be interesting to see what she does in season 2
Yesssss this! She wants agency, not necessarily freedom from her rank
I LOVED Blue Eye Samurai. Fowler's chat with God was just evil, but i loved. He's actually kinda charming (still very evil tho). My favorite episodes are 4 and 7 (i hear that episode 5 is a community favorite, but that one got spoiled so much). Mizu trying to regain Ringo's trust and her confessing to Taigen having the complete opposite effect. I really liked Akemi's arc this episode. How Akemi takes the situation she failed to fix and learns to live with her marriage (her husband is actually a nice guy) and use it as an asset, just like Seki had told her (it only took Madame Kaji for her to understand it tho, which is a nice touch). EASILY, the stuff with Kinuyo hurt me more than anything else in the show. The twist with her was SO shocking, and I hated Mizu for doing it, but you can clearly tell she hated doing it too. Akemi pretending to be a prostitute was also really fun/funny. Taigen being an egotistical a-hole was hilarious at several moments, but Ringo... Ringo was the most adorable character I've ever seen, maybe ever. I cannot express enough how good this show is. It's even better than Arcane at times (arcane never struck me as funny. BES can be EXTREMELY funny when it wants to)
As someone who’s loved Scott Pilgrim and made the right choice to read the comics before the movie years ago, I cannot understate how thankful I am that Takes off subverted expectations and gave us an unexpected sequel/alternate take to the story I love so much and fleshing out characters that needed it to the point where they’re some of my favorites. I love that the show is making more people read the comics since it’s so much better after reading them
I wish it wasn't a sequel the original never needed a sequel and all it did was assassinat Scott's character and made the original story meaningless
@@jaydenlopez3636It's not a sequel. Bryan Lee O'malley already explained that it's a whole other universe and is not a continuation of the movie
@@wuttatota148 I know that but I feel that was him saving face because he was getting tons of backlash for the future Scott stuff because the show itself doesn't state otherwise
15:03 Tbf , she was already cast in Birdman in 2014 and that movie was also fucking weird but I see what you mean . I hope she wins again for poor things

If you loved Fionna and Cake, I seriously can't reccomend going back and rewatching those last seasons of Adventure Time as well as Distant Lands enough. Its some of the most emotional and fantastical stuff in the entire franchise (especially Together Again)
I think you mean can’t recommend enough 😅
@krdt1111 oops thanks for catching that error lol

Adventure Time is the GOAT of Cartoon Network in my eyes. The creativity in that show is off the charts and I always am amazed how well they juggled heavy emotional stories with goofy surreal comedy. Every 11 minutes you never know what you’re gonna get. It’s just the best.

You're absolutely right to have the Tom/Shiv balcony fight as ranked as high as it is because of the context of the show, but for people who have been in toxic relationships where things just bubble up and come to the surface in one big fight where you just don't hold back and spew every grudge, every resentment, every weapon you have at your partner .. it really hits close to home. I've watched that fight scene so many fucking times just because of how hard it hits, I've never seen a show nail it like that before. It's therapeutic, in a way.
blue eye samurai was so insane. i accidentally binged it in 2 days and i sincerely cant wait for s2. the animation was so beautiful, the plot was amazing, the characers were so well done, couldnt ask for more from it. stg if netflix cancels it before its done imma do something drastic

No one expcted that bait and switch in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, but I'm so glad they did it instead of retreading the same story. One thing I really loved was how much Ramona got to do, and how much character development she got. Realizing how she screwed over her exs in the past, learning from her mistakes, and even making ammends.
Also, Netflix better not cancel Blue Eyed Samurai before it's story can get a proper conclusion. Not nearly enough people are talking about it. It's undoubtedly the best animated show we got this year. Great story and characters, stunning animation, and some of the best fight choreography I've ever seen.
I really love what they did with Ramona.
Netflix better not fumble Blue Eye
Ramona has always been an eh character for me in the comics and movie so the fact they made her more likable and willing to grow made her the best Ramona
I just wish it didn’t come out from literal nowhere
let me recommend Scavengers Reign! its an extremely underrated HBO Max show based on the 2016 pilot animation on Adult Swim. The backgrounds are the best i’ve ever seen in a show, story is concise yet profound, and the animation is just gorgeous. It’s set on alien planet and exploring its wild ecosystem. The biology is thought out with such nuance. Every alien food chain, pollination method is thought about in such alien beautiful ways.
This! I can't believe it isn't more trending. It was amazing, the world building, the characters, everything was on point. Best show of the year along with Invincible for me
It really is an amazing series, and certainly my favorite of the year. Every frame is a masterpiece and it has some of the most interesting speculative biology I’ve ever seen. More people need to watch it or I fear we may not get a second season…
In terms of other anime you missed this year, Pluto was a big one. That show’s phenomenal, not enough people talking about that one. Vinland Saga season 2 was probably my favorite show of the year. Like, I liked Season 1, but season 2 just filled me with such profound emotions across the spectrum, which was a real shock to me since it’s a particularly slow burn and usually shows like that aren’t my thing. Also watch Frieren. It’s still airing, so maybe it doesn’t count as a 2033 show, but yeah I’ve just never seen anything quite like it.
Also Link Click
I saw Pluto on Netflix but given their reputation with original anime I’ve never gave it chance? What’s good about it? What’s it about?
@@Ben-yj9wz It’s an adaptation of a manga by Naoki Urasawa, creator of Monster and other great manga. It’s a reimagining of an arc from Astro Boy, with the perspective shifted primarily to robot detective Gesicht. The series has an overall more grounded and mature tone, with the focus being moreso on the murder mystery aspect of the story rather than the original’s focus on big dumb action. This sounds silly, like “oh what if we took this cartoony series for kids and made it dark and edgy” but trust me it ain’t like that. It’s a genuinely gripping mystery, with things to say about ptsd and the nature of humanity and shit. What’s funny is that the anime keeps Astro Boy’s original Japanese name “Atom,” so if you only have a passing familiarity with the series you could have no idea it’s related to Astro Boy at all.
Vinland Saga was the only series to make me cry this year. And weirdly enough it was tears of pride for a fictional character rather than sadness.
I’m so happy that “I’m in love with a villainess” is this high on this list
Of course, because basement dweller like you love to see your dirty fantasy gets rated "high"

@@LinkRammerbetter than being Fatherless like you, bro.
My thoughts on Scott pilgrim takes off is that I genuinely can’t imagine being upset that we got something entirely new from the franchise rather than just another retread of the same story, the bait and switch really did make for a pretty great unexpected surprise.
It is a retread of the same KIND of story that invalidates the comic's story if you turn your brain on, and don't get gaslit by a single post-production interview.
Like ok, what if you got over the surprise? Then it's just Ramona going through an alternate version of Scott's arc. Ramona having an actual talk with the exes didn't require Scott being gone. And then it ruins Scott's future entirely saying he learned absolutely nothing about being a wayward manchild, Ramona keeps running away from the first problem in her relationship, and they keep separating.
So now current Scott is just some random puppy boy Ramona is obsessed over who learned how not to be a bad guy through the cheat of literally seeing his own future. Like Ramona is criticized as a manic pixie girl in the movie. And Older Scott is just Nega Scott 2 but lamer, requires less development, can be beaten with power, and still has a sad ending where he needs to be fixed, not fix himself.
The individual scenes were very nice though, like the bread makes you fat musical, Knives actually becoming friends with the band, Young Neil Jobs, Gay Failure Todd>>>>>> Vegan Todd, etc.
I really enjoyed the show however im not gonna defend the marketing which flat out lied to fans about whats its gonna be, if the trailers were honest about what it really was i don't think it wouldn't have gotten backlash.
Same thoughts here, while the marketing did baited everyone, i do think that receiving a entirely new story with these characters is way better than the same story over and over again, not that the og story is bad its just that its fun to get something new in this franchise
@@jskywalker58 I feel it wouldn't be nearly as effective or shocking if they flat out told us what was happening, but to each their own I guess.
@@SenpaiSamaKun Interesting perspective(personally dont agree with it), just didnt need a whole paragraph .
The success of Blue Eye Samurai was amazing, but one show that was overshadowed by it was Pluto. Netflix animes were hitting this past year! If y'all haven't seen Pluto, I highly recommend because it's just as good as BES but on a very different wavelength. Thanks Schaffrillas for putting some great animes on your list!
North 2 made me cry
Pluto was fire!
@@JLacay broooooo that episode made my heart hurt for both North 2 and the old man
Aw man, I was really excited for Schaff to talk about Ted Lasso. I only wish it was in a more positive light though. Oh well even if you didn't season 3 I still had a fun time with it and I'm glad you watched the show overall
Same. I actually didn't mind season 3. It was a bitter sweet ending, and even though it can be labeled as cliche, its a sports show. Of course its going to end with the Richmond Winning. To me, i just liked how each character was fleshed out, except the Keely shit, but i pretty much got connected with every character, which made it more painful when Ted left and went back to the US, which you understand, but i love the fact you can see the impact Ted left on everyones lives. The only complaints i really had was Keely and Nate, nate less so, but yeah. I liked the season overall, definitely the weakest, but i still liked it.
The bear might be the best TV-show I’ve EVER seen! All the characters are amazing, the camera work is beautiful and the STRESS you physically feel watching it is exhausting but MAN IT’S AMAZING!
Almost every character got their own episode focused on overcoming their own problems whilst still connecting to the main plot.
And the flashback episode of the 7 fishes… OMG! Almost the whole thing is one continual camera take making it feel SO much mote hectic than it already is, with just small segments going up for air wirh ricky and his girlfriend before going down to the hellhole that is this disfunctional family.
And the ending is INSANE!
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WATCH THE BEAR!
I recently just left foodservice to get a job in my actual field. I was always trying, but never had luck, but I think The Bear pushed me just a bit further. I extremely related to it and am glad I may never have to again.
ever? like it's good but jeez lol
With Better Call Saul over, this is the best show airing on tv right now, for me.
I recently watched I'm in Love with the Villainess and subsequently read the manga and I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's such a breath of fresh air for an anime to be so direct about it's LGBTQ+ representation. I specifically really respected the scene where Misha asks if Rae is gay, Lene implies that gender doesn't matter and it just so happened that the person Rae fell in love was a woman, and Rae shuts that down immediately, explaining that while gender doesn't matter in some regards, she would not be able to fall in love with a man. I really recommend that anyone who enjoys the show read the manga as well, although it's mostly the same as the anime, there are a few new sections that really smooth the progression of Rae and Claire's relationship, there's a little bit of extra attention to some underdeveloped characters, and the story is obviously further along. Mild spoilers, although I'll keep things vague, but it's currently it's in the middle of a very interesting storyline that follows a character who has gender dysphoria, which is another thing I am so glad to see an anime directly address.
Man, I love this arc, just read the newest chapter today and was heartbroken because I realized I finally caught up.
I have been waiting so long for the day you talk about Succession S4, im so thankful you made a video on the show originally because after giving it a chance its my fav show of all time.
Surprised to see Scavengers Reign isn’t on the list! I haven’t watched this video through yet so sorry if you mentioned it, but it was so incredible and moving. Terrifying, heartbreaking, but beautiful. Favorite show of 2023 by far and it was a great year for shows.
I heavily recommend watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. It’s an absolutely beautiful show about the passage of time and what your experiences can leave you with. Absolutely stellar television.
This ... I support this message.
I second this. Probably my favorite anime from 2023
Lmao it's literally my first anime. Can't wait for it to end tho
This series and Vinland Saga S2 are probably my favorite seasons of the year
Coming from someone whose favorite show ever is Adventure Time, Fionna and Cake totally lived up to expectations for me. It was a perfect balance of fan service and exciting new stories that managed to get me excited for the future while also celebrating the show’s past. I’m so psyched that it got a second season.
The amount of takes of “Scott pilgrim isn’t even about Scott pilgrim, why is Ramona the main character” I’ve seen is… something. I mean sure I guess it’s frustrating, but I liked seeing how her relationships weren’t just black and white and the different take on “defeating the evil exes” was just making amends with them. Also god forbid the woman has any agency in her own dating life.
Petition for a pokemon movie ranking
22:23 That is kind of what the Twisted Tales books do, where they take the original movie, and make a change that radically changes the course of the story.
Like what if Jafar actually got the lamp, became Sultan, and Aladdin and Jasmine lead a revolution to stop him?
Or what if Rapunzel was given the power to hurt instead of heal? And Rapunzels parents had to willingly surrender her to Gothel?
Or what if Meg had to become a true hero to be with Hercules? And that quest involved confronting her past to save her former lover’s new wife?
Seriously these books are SO GOOD and the perfect antidote for people burnt out by Disney remakes!
That kind of approach can definitely pay off if the end product is good.
But oh boy is it risky and angers a lot of fans who just want a faithful retread.
I think another currently relevant example is the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel coming out.
It's yet to be determined how good or bad the end product will be. But so far, it's fine and interesting to change things up.
But wow, it's controversial. Some fans like it, and others HATE it.
But we all want to see where it's going so love it or hate it it works.
I loved the tangled one so much, and the beauty and the beast and little mermaid one. The frozen one was alright too
I love how after watching anime for his best anime tier list, schaffrillas finally respects it enough to mention it in this tier list. What a redemption arc
Not really. His opinion on Oshi No Ko is terrible. How does he not understand that the entire series deals with the hard life in entertainment industry and revenge on his father. Also, I don’t understand his issue with the age gap. He and his sister get reincarnated into a fresh new body.
Thank you for your Ted Lasso review! I feel like no one else thought the quality dropped exponentially!
Tom and Shiv' scene was THE scene for me too. Since Marriage Story I haven't got the chance to see that level of acting and line delivery. It was flawless (the whole season was, of course), but that episode had the most spectacular moment. All hail Succession! (Man I wanna rewatch it)
You have no idea how happy i was when i saw Im in Love With The Villainess in the intro. I really hope this video can bring more eyes to it, as its such a cute, funny, and amazing show.
For sure
I as well like the show
I really tried, but the Villainess is too much of a tsundere for me to enjoy lol
except for that one part
@antonioc.5778 not really a tsundere, she just starts the story actually hating her and being a real bully. I'd say stick with it if you can.
When I first heard "For Whom the Bell Tolls" start in Blue Eye Samurai I thought it was weird, but man the pan over the castle with that song playing gave me chills. It felt daunting. And then when it turns out to be a Japanese version it's even better.
Yeah I agree. On the other hand the kill bill one was a bit much for me
Really appreciate this video dude, we often struggle to find new quality shows to watch and this was just what we needed, I hope you can keep making these. Thanks a million big crab. Also I really enjoyed the mario cart ranking saga
I've found your content recently and really love it. Great watching when i just want to chill. However idk how you managed it but i've gotten back into my simping for akechi phase because of you
I have a special love for Ahsoka S1 because it's the first time I've seen my mom cry over Star Wars. She was really moved by the scenes between Anakin and Ahsoka and generally seemed to love the story it told. She really liked both Clone Wars and Rebels but admitted that it's often hard for her to empathize with animated characters in general, so seeing those characters in live action really helped her appreciate them more
If she's not a huge fan of animation, it might be a hard sell, but you should try showing her Arcane. The sheer amount of trauma may break through that animation-empathy block.
@@blootooth00 That is definitely on the list. Currently we're going through Avatar The Last Airbender

As a longtime Scott Pilgrim fan, I was initially excited for the series and then it EXCEED my expectations with switching things up! Seeing other characters interact with each other, the fact the entire cast from the movie was on board. 10/10 one of my favourite shows from this year. I was lucky enough to attend the premiere of the 1st three episodes in Toronto. Being in a theatre full of socked and confused fans at the end of episode 1 was incredible.
Schaffrillas really do be making ranking lists of every type possible. With that said, I think it's well done ^^ but to those reading the comments, BEWARE the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off review because that series has a MAJOR spoiler in its first episode alone--definitely recommend checking it out yourself before seeing Schaff's awesome take on it 😎
Please Schaffrillas, I implore you to watch - and in any capacity - talk about, Scavengers Reign. It is an incredible show that no one FUCJFIIWNG mentions like anywhere and it’s devastating, especially given it’s deserving, in my opinion, of being dubbed a masterpiece. Any publicity that might ensure its continuation would be a huge service to me specifically, but also the numerous other fans who wish to see another season (not to mention the talented individuals who are clearly creating it from a source of passion). I am, as are others, severely worried as to the prospect of its cancellation, and I can only try to vie for more to acknowledge its existence.
Yeah seconded
Yo Schaff, my man, I'm on episode 3 of Blue Eye Samurai and this is tight. I had trouble getting into any shows this year, but this has been awesome. Like grown up Mulan. Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm surprised "I'm in love with the villainess" is here. Very cool. I read the light novel around when it came out and waited for the possibility of an anime. Fast-forward to sometime around 2023 and I remember the series and come back to see an anime. It was such a cool thing for me. I've read up to the 3rd book. I've only read 2 of the manga. I have also read "She's So Cheeky for a Commoner," told from Claire's (and other characters') perspectives. If someone is really into the show, manga, or light novels, I'd recommend them. I really hope the show gets a season 2, the whole thing is pretty great. It's amazing getting to see others find out about the anime and get into the thing as a whole. Very cool!
If you’re interested in an anime similar to Spy x Family, I would highly recommend Buddy Daddies. It came out in January of last year and has a similar premise and themes of found family, but quickly becomes its own distinct and captivating story. I love it so much
I support this... It's a really fun watch.
🗿
Show was delightful!
Buddy daddies was more enjoyable to me then spy x family because I so desperately wanted the family to work together. But they won’t because then the shows over. But in buddy daddies the two adults actually can be bad asses together and that’s fantastic and enjoyable.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526 I love both xD it was sad that Buddy Daddies was so short though. :(
Blue Eye samurai was phenomenal I can't stress enough how amazing it was and how little people talk about it
seriously incredible, one of the best pieces of content i've seen in years. so happy netflix renewed it for a second season, here's to hoping they don't abandon it like their other great shows
also for anyone considering checking it out, the first episode is free on youtube on netflix's channel!
And the 2nd season has been greenlit already. I just hope their team gets enough time to finish, because my only complaint with it was the rushed nature of the final episode. 9/10 show.
I'm absolutely horrified. It's the first time in my life, I have this weird feeling where everyone on this planet found a masterpiece, where I'm the lonely alien who saw a boring, mostly uninspired, and predictable show.
It might be because a lot of people are avoiding it because Micheal Green, one of the creators, made a lot of Zionist tweets a couple of months ago.
Idk if he changed his stance recently or just doesn’t want any more backlash, but the tweets were recently deleted.
I can’t seem to find my earlier comment; I guess I might’ve accidentally deleted it? But one reason why Blue Eye Samurai might not be very popular right now is because Micheal Green, one of the creators, made a couple of tweets a couple of months back that were against the liberation of Palestine.
Can you react to the trailer of the worst sequel in history ever made by mankind that will definitely ruin its own franchise forever, Megamind 2?
The episode of Mando Season 3 that entirely focused on the former Empire scientist was really really captivating to me. Then it went back to the main plot and I wanted to fall asleep.
Finally I found someone appreciating Blue eye samurai, that show deserves a lot more recognition

Schaff. Idc if you are done with Marvel. You do you. But if you do not watch Loki season 2 you are depriving yourself of the best show of the entire year. The storytelling, the characters, THE ENDING!!! Just go watch it
the i'm in love with the villainess anime made me read the light novels and i completely fell in love with it :) i hope the series gets a second season
Same dude
It doesn’t seem to be here but I recommend watching Zom 100 since it has a unique premise of a guy living life to the fullest during a zombie apocalypse and makes good use of it
Also I did not mind the redesigns of Livewire and Silver Banshee for My Adventures with Superman, they’re fine looking on their own. Same with Slade.
The designs were alright but I hated Slades new look.
I didn't like it. Guess it just wasn't for me. I think the whole idea is ruins stakes. If it's going to be a TV show about how whimsical and exciting zombies can be then at least really make me laugh. The show couldn't
Definitely agree, I picked up the Manga earlier this year and then found out about the movie and anime back to back, I love the humor and color it brings, it really just highlighted a brand new zombie story when I thought all the best ones were already made last decade
Love that one
Forreal. Zom 100 is just something special.
It's been a while since I've seen one of your videos but damn. I've been missing out LOL this channel never fails to provide quality analysis + quality laughs
22:20 that's the same feeling I got watching trigun stampede early last year. Seemed like they just changed some elements to retell the story but the show starts to reveal that the changes they made were carefully chosen to expand into a whole new story. It was a great reboot and I seriously recommend both the original trigun and stampede
Schaff geeking over Brian David Gilbert is everything I needed to get through this month
Same. BDG is peak
I actually enjoyed the long format and you breaking down what you liked and didn’t like about each show in detail. I would for sure watch more of these!
I would honestly love to also hear your thoughts on Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 particularly the hidden inventory and premature death arc ❤
I love your videos because its so funny to see you put my best ranked shows in your lower ranks, because i am instantly defensive but i also know my taste is pretty basic though I WILL ARGUE ONCE AND ONLY ONCE with you about a ranking, and that is for oshi no ko, to me this series was so killer and amazing, i binged it in a day and was hooked since the start. Especially with the mystery of who their dad was. It was fun to see the character growth and the takes on the idol but also the acting industry were very nuanced for being set in japan. Also the exploration of the Ai’s charavter throughout the show and her learning what love is really BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. Especially in the case of her fake attitude towards her fans that came from a good intent nonthless. This show’s character more specifically Ai, Aqua, Kana and Akane were done SO WELL as the series progressed.
People can love or hate these shows, but we must all agree that these shows are 100x better than the Velma show.
Trueeeee
uhh, 0 times 100 is 0.

I forgot that show even existed lmao
Invincible has been one of the most faithful adaptations of a comic I've ever seen. The biggest thing they do is just change some of the events around from the oder that they were in. I would highly recommend reading the comic if you want to know what's coming in future seasons.
so glad you talked about succession. i wouldnt have watxhed it (never even heard of it) until i watched your vid about it and was immediately hooked.
6:12 My happy marriage is great for everyone who likes fluffy romance, and not much anxt! I highly recommend it for a casual watch❤
I hardly disagree with ted Lasso, exept for some sub plots being irrelevant, I can understand that, but the rest was great, seing the ted Lasso mental helth arc was good for me, and the Nate character didn't felt inconsistent to me, It felt like a lot of what he was hiding inside just came out AND during the season he learned yo see how some of that stuff hurt the others AND learned to regret It, making his sorry to Ted very heart warming, specialy thanks to his moment with beard, Ted realising that he was accidentally giving up on his kid by being so far away, making you understand why he Is leaving but still hurts thanks to the bond he make with all the other characters, making his talk with Rebecca Hit like a truck, It was a great ending in my opinión
Couldnt agree more was really confused when schaff put it second last
Can't wait to see TED come up as #1 next year !!!
Bro the time between warning me of a spoiler and DROPPING A CHARACTER DEATH WAS WAY TOO QUICK
Who cares, you're not missing anything on Succession. It's a lame show.
I highly recommend Land of the Lustrous. It has a few things in common with Steven Universe like rock people and enemies from space, but both are for completely different audiences. The manga is on a whole other level in terms of quality. I also think you’ll love the Ancient Magus Bride. The first episode and the reason for Chie being there is pretty morally dubious but don’t worry it gets better.
YES YES YES YES. I had no idea I'd see LOTL in the comments. Great show.
Of the ones I've seen
14. The Mandalorian S3
13. Ahsoka
12. Secret Invasion
11. I Am Groot S2
10. Abbott Elementary S2
9. Kaleidoscope(Giancarlo plays a character that's not just Gus)
8. Star Wars: Visions
7. Twisted Metal
6. The Legend of Vox Machina S2(I cannot recommend this show enough)
5. Invincible Season 2 Part 1
4. Succession S4
3. Loki S2
2. The Last of Us
1. The Fall of the House of Usher(Brilliant series)
Glad to see a fellow Vox Machina fan. My favourite show that I saw this year that gets almost NO recognition… is the NieR anime. Everyone talking about how Last of Us is the best adaptation… when NieR is literally a One-to-One PERFECT recreation of one of the best video games to release last decade
@@cloudshines812 Didn't the NieR Automata anime get cancelled? Like, 4 or 6 episodes got posted and after that nothing? And isn't the animation like really bad? Honestly people should just play the game. It's way more impactful as a game rather than an anime and the game is FAR from being difficult or inaccessible like something like Elden Ring. The game only gets really grindy if you go for 100% and even then it's one of the easiest action games to 100%. Edit: Also the game is on everything so there's no excuse. There's even switch port for crying out loud which is suprisingly super high quality and well optimized.
@@KrimsonKattYT Well yes the Anime was delayed for a while and the release was a nightmare. Currently Cour 1 is over which covers the plot of Route’s A and B. The second cour may come out further in the future. As for animation being bad… its not terrible, but CGI is a bit dodgy especially in the early episodes. But if you’ve seen other animes… this is really a nothing compliant considering Japan has weaker CGI compared to America.
Although the game is most probably the superior version, I really enjoy the fact that an anime/alternate version exists. Even if it is harder to access… its there for people who aren’t good at Action Games
Watch jujutsu kaisen fr its a game changer
so i've een reading the lught novels for "i'm in love with the villainess" their still really good and wow is there some tonal shifts that S2 will have if we get one
but i gotta say some small details in the anime i really liked more
like when rae joins the knights
the guys have already seen RIGHT through her and say "so you don't want to protect claire?" in the books claire volunteers first so rae volunteers right after so we don't get her fantasies of protecting claire
The Christmas episode of The Bear s2 felt like one of the flashback episodes in Bojack Horseman. It was insanely well-done, claustrophobic, and not a second of peace was had as the family slowly tore itself apart
it was like view from halfway down lowkey
Quick warning for I'm In Love With The Villainess the show has one small moment where it's implied two characters are in an incestuous relationship and the show's solution for it is BANISHING THOSE CHARACTERS FROM THE FUCKING SHOW in the following episode, which i find beyond hilarious, anyways, the show is amazing and you should all watch it
Nice video. 2024 has popped off so far
Keep up the good work
Glad to see you on the TV side again, Schaff! ❤ 📺
Schaf, you NEEEEEED to watch Carol and the end of the world. It is absolutely one of THE BEST animation series I've seen in a long time. It's really up there with Bojack Horseman honestly.
Thanks for mentioning Barry, it's one of the funniest shows I've seen but still gets way to little recognition for something that won multiple Emmys.
When you posted the thumbnail to Twitter I was shocked to see Mandalorian because I thought you’d be reviewing the best shows of 2023. Now it all makes sense.
The scene of Ewan’s eulogy speech was honestly the best scene in the entire show
Oh Schaff, I can't believe you missed out on Season 5 of Fargo. It's some of the most amazing, cinematic Television I've ever seen. Every scene is ART. And also it'll make you want biscuits.
I really think Loki Season 2 deserves a shot. It wasn’t near the top of my list, but I still found it well worth my time. You should definitely also check out Beef, fantastic show with two stellar performances.
Beef was amazing omg
Schaff's recommendations are ten times better than those provided by the mainstream critics.
trueeeeeeeee!!!!
His tops are bangers but not giving Oshi No Ko it's due is insanity!
Although while James is a chill dude… there’s some ego he has that I find a bit off putting. Then again… everyone is self-entitled in their own way
With the oshi no ko thing, the age gap type thing is necessary for the plot when you get to the manga
(please tell me why, I am not afraid of spoilers, I don't know where I can read the manga, and this it bothered me so much)
@@Ammiteur9 do you mind piracy? Cuz that's how I read it lol
@@pandabottomtext3290 No, I guess?
@Ammiteur9 oh oki oki- so basically yk how the doctor promised the girl who got him into idols they would get married if she recovered? Basically Ruby remebers the doctor saying that after aqua reveals he was the doctor.
That and aqua and the doctor are also kinda diferent characters- the doctor is a mental thing in aquas head which is constantly telling him how much of a piece of shit he is BECAUSE he use to be the doctor-
So basically aqua is also aware of the age gap and hates himself for it. He often has panic attacks over his identity because of it.
@@pandabottomtext3290 Thank you very much.
I knew most of this through CZcams videos, like watching current updates of the Manga, but I couldn't find much about the sepperation of Aqua and the Doctor, which was like my hope that they acknowledged the imo pretty tragic relationship between the twins and Ai/ their general Family dynamic.
Not that Ai died, that's tragic as well, but when you think about it, their relationship was never truthful because her children loved Ai more as her fans, than as their actual children, which makes me really sad for Ai. This is all based on the knowledge I got from the anime/ the bits and pieces I know from youtube, so I hope that the twins seeing themselves more as Ai's children or sepperating themselves from their past will be touched on more in the second season, since that's the arc I know the least about I think.
The marriage thing seems pretty bad to me either way, I'm glad they seemingly were just trolling with that.
Still, even with your explanation, I overall think they didn't really need the reincarnation/ weird age gap plotline, but I think as the Manga reaches it's conclusion, the reason for it will become clearer to me.
(Though I guess the identity reveal caused Ruby to trust Aqua again, so in that sense it was useful...)
I really like having the BOTW Kakariko Village music in the background for the first half. It gives off some great vibes!
Hooray for the Villainess praise, but I for one adore Rae's English VO? The moments where she goes extra with delivery are a good deal of what make Rae such a funny presence.
Now this is truly a Schaffrillas moment.
please watch loki s2. it’s such an incredible improvement from s1 and probably the best content marvel has seen in years. the andor of marvel imo
the andor of marvel was daredevil lmao
@@cement_eaterdaredevil is Netflix not marvel
Typically a big fan, but I strongly disagree with your Ted Lasso take. It's the best TV/Film breakdown of the psyche of high level athletes and coaches I've ever seen. Each major character represents a different point in the journey of an athlete through their career, and how their choices and the choices of others affect their performance and self image. Traditional entertainment lacks true explorations of what it means to play a sport, be a teammate, and be a leader in the context of athletics. It provides a therapeutic experience for those undergoing similar challenges, and offers teaching to those not yet exposed. It's so popular because it taps into the mentality of its desired audience in a way no other major program has. Very few shows I've ever personally resonated with quite like it.
Succesion's last season is just the definition of a masterpiece, everything the show carefully crafted and every great aspect was amped to eleven in this 10-episode masterclass. I seriously don't think Succession will ever be topped as one of the greatest modern television shows to date.
I'm just ginna say what everyone's thinking, you're missing out on Loki Season 2
Seeing blue eye samurai so high in the list was great to see, that show deserves all the love in the world.
I really liked Ted Lasso season 3. I thought the first few episodes weren't very good, but from the Amsterdam episode on, I absolutely loved it. The Amsterdam episode is one of my favorites of the entire show. I also liked it even more after rewatching the whole series all the way through. I felt it flowed well, and I liked how it ended too.
Hey Schaff! I think you and Jess might like this Netflix series (Originally a Paramount series) called “School Spirits”. It’s basically about this girl who passed at her high school and she’s trying to figure out how she died. I think the writings good and the story captivated me and my mom, who showed me it. This recommendation isn’t for a video on the show, just some suggestions!!
Exited for this!!! Especially blue eye samurai
If Velma’s ultra perfect characters, comedy and story doesn’t get #1, I’m rioting
(This is a joke by the way)
You know for some reason I thought Velma came out earlier than 2023
@@stefans4751Yeah. I thought Velma came out late 2022
