    🙌🙌I received my Ormsby Rusty Cooley Signature Model and I wanted to do a quick review. There is a lot that I love about this new guitar, and I am ready to put it into action and write some new material and continue working on my debut solo album. 👍

    Finish: Gloss to body and headstock face. Satin neck.

    Extras: Hardcase, Certificate of Authenticity (signed by Perry Ormsby and Rusty Cooley) included. NOTE: We've made some minor changes to the original prototype released at Winter NAMM, 2019. In the interest of transparency, here they are:
    1. The end of the fretboard, past the 27th fret, has been reduced to bring the pickup closer to the last fret.
    2. The bridge pickup has been moved towards the bridge a few mm. Changes 1+2 give a slightly wider tonal range.
    3. The locking nut has been revised and improved from the original groundbreaking design. The screw mounts have been relocated, allowing a lower profile overall. And, furthermore, the finish will be black for this part rather than the polished brass of the prototype

    Got mine on monday and initial thoughts are that I am really impressed with the guitar. I own 2 Dean RC7's so I have some reference point comparing to the previous model and I would say it holds up really well comparing to the previous rusty sig. Playability is great and the neck is super smooth and fast, the satin finish on the neck feels especially fast unlike I've felt on other guitars I've tried. The spec sheet you had on the review lists the neck dimensions as 17mm constant D but that is on the custom shop model. This one has a 19mm neck which ormsby changed for some reason and didnt feel like that needed explaining even though I asked what happened there. Not a big deal as it is a great feeling neck regardless, still would have been cool(ey) to have that ultra thin 17mm neck which I havent tried on any guitar ever before. The body is super light and the neck feels much heavier so the neck dive is a issue that could have been fixed with better strap lock positioning. Few minor cosmetic imperfections mainly behind the guitar and on the neck joint. Those are my only complaints, really minor and not really any issues at all except the neck dive which is a real pain when playing standing up. Sitting down it sits down really nice on your body playing in the classical position. It really is a joy to play and have been playing it non-stop since I got it and the fanned frets was super quick to get used to. Based on this guitar I am very impressed by Ormsby guitars!

      Good analysis!
      Yea the neck dive is an issue. I'm going to experiment with weights in the back cavity to help offset it.
      I think I heard they changed the spec on the neck, which is kind of a bummer. But, still plays great. It's probably one of the best guitars I've ever played.
      Got another rc1 on the way. In blue this time. Looking forward to seeing if they match in quality

      Thanks for the review. I also have two RC7 (the black xenon graphics one actually feels like it has a thinner neck compared to the white). Waiting for my Ormsby to arrive in the mail. Very excited to compare for myself!

    Great review. I also bought a purple RC1, and I think I was the first person after Rusty to get my hands on my own one. I would only add that the closer pickups don't seem to affect the tonal variation in a negative way. It has a surprising amount of bass response from a small body electric. The output from the pickups isn't huge but definitely has very articulate and sensitive response to even the quietest of playing.

      @@ZachAdkinsGuitar Wow, I forgot about this comment. They turned the signature model into the "The One" guitar. So I guess it's kind of a reissue, just without the scalloped frets.

    Thank you for the great video!... I was on the edge about getting one, since I am not the biggest fan of EMG pickups, but your review helped me go for it!... For years I have not seen any brand or artist truly push the design of guitars and this is certainly a big jump. Rusty has a lot of great ideas and I am glad Ormsby were brave enough to pursue them.

      @@ZachAdkinsGuitar Hey, I was wondering... What string gauge is on this guitar from factory? Can you fit 010s? I tend to favor 010s on a 25.5 scale myself.

    • @ZachAdkinsGuitar
      @ZachAdkinsGuitar  Před 2 lety

      I'm not sure what size comes from the factory. I instantly take them off and put my set up on there

    • @TheLinuxExperience
      @TheLinuxExperience Před 2 lety +1

      @@ZachAdkinsGuitar Thank you for the quick response! I guess my question really is whether the guitar is setup for 9s, and if so, whether it can be setup for 10s. I have owned guitars in the past whose floating trem would not be able to cope with the increased tension of 10s, it would require buying other stronger springs, and that is a pain.

    • @ZachAdkinsGuitar
      @ZachAdkinsGuitar  Před 2 lety

      I think they come with 10s. But, when you order the guitar, they ask what size strings you want on there's so I believe that they will set it up for you before leaving the factory.
      But, when they sent me my guitars, I specifically told them to put on terrible strings. Because I wasn't going to keep them anyway. Because I have my guitar tech set everything up for me. And I didn't want them to waste time doing their own setup on a guitar that I was going to reset up anyway lol

  • @TransVoiceLessons
    @TransVoiceLessons Před 2 lety

    Hey! Cool review! One quick thing: while the fanned frets don't necessarily influence note against note tuning, the reason why the notes come out clearer is because of reduced inharmonicity. Strings fixed at both ends are more harmonic when longer. This *is* actually a property of tuning except its retuning the upper partials produced by the string rather than the fundamental. 😁

    Only issue I have with the rc1 is the edge of the locking nut is sharp and when I slide down to the first fret I find myself hitting my finger on it. Other than that it’s the greatest guitar ive ever touched by far. Plays like an absolute dream.

    • @ZachAdkinsGuitar
      @ZachAdkinsGuitar  Před 3 lety

      Yea. I can see that. I have bashed my hands as well. But, I think it's like that on a lot of fanned guitars

    Nice Axe. I have one as well - same color serial #17.
    Still putting it through the paces. So far everything about it is pretty killer, with one exception: neck dive. How do you work with the neck dive? I stand almost 100% of the time when I play, so the offset/countersunk strap-locks don't feel quite right with the way the guitar hangs from a strap when I'm standing. I have to spend some more time with it, but I can see I'm probably going to have to re-adjust my play style, and experiment with different straps. I really wish the strap-lock closest to the neck was a traditional strap button, placed at the tip of the top horn - I think that would probably have helped a lot with controlling the neck dive. My Metal-X also has neck dive, but it is much more comfortable to control, as I use the Longest horn as a shelf to rest my picking arm on to counter balance the neck dive, but I haven't quite found the sweet spot for doing that with the Rc-One yet...

    • @ZachAdkinsGuitar
      @ZachAdkinsGuitar  Před 3 lety

      Maybe try putting some extra weight in the back where the claw and springs are.
      I've heard of people doubt that to offset the neck drive.
