- Today I finally install a much-needed stop block for the miter saw. At 4-1/2" wide and 1-3/4" tall, I can cut several pieces of most materials at one time, speeding up production quite a bit.

No nonsense video. No nonsense woodworking. I like it.
Nobody would ever know by looking, but there are pieces all over my shop that were inspired by your videos!! Thank you so much!!
The runner to keep it straight! Genius.
I was really surprised how much cutting power (and torque) this saw had out of the box. I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend. This is a Great saw czcams.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.
Simple and straight to the point, love it. Nice design with the taller height making it more efficient as time is money. 👍
Always great content!
Thanks for providing me with a well deserved "DUH" moment. I made a similar stop-block, but without the key. So, even when the T-bolt is tight, it still tries to move around. I've been tolerating it while I intermittently, half-heartedly tried to think of an easy solution. Now I know what to do. Haha. Thanks, again.
Simple, yet effective. Great idea - thanks! 🙂
What a fantastic and pragmatic idea. I love this. Thank you.
Well done, simple but very effective! 👍👍
Simple things like this make life so much easier ... excellent 👍
Simple with great function!
Thanks!!
Love the simplicity of your stop block. I'm building a shop and this will do exactly what I need it to do. Thanks for sharing.
I'm in the process of finishing some cabinets and about to set up my miter saw and was looking at several options on stop blocks and ways to set it up. This one looks like a damn fine option. Perfect timing, Jodee. Keep up the great work, man.
Simple, easy and effective! Thanks for sharing... just what the doctor ordered!
Nicely done. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Sometimes simple is just better. Awesome video 👊🏼
Thanks for this and the many other great inspirational videos you've created over the years! Consider me a fan and subscribed!
Gone are the days where I thought you needed a fence that spanned the length of the station. It’s pointless and eats up space when you could store stuff behind. As always great video man. Loved the simplicity and ingenuity of this stop block
In a GREAT percentage of our projects/jigs, simple is better. Good job and design! !! !!!
Nothing mind boggling, which i like simple and versatile. Off to the shop i go Thanks for sharing your great idea's.
Great idea, as always!
Innovative & Functional!!
Love your videos!
Great video ❤
Brilliant work, dude! I really liked how you made it! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I have exactly the same thing in my workshop: cheap curtain T-track from a local hardware store routed into the couters.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen this exact, simple, cost effective stop block anywhere before, yet it’s so simple and customizable at the same time. It’s amazing how your brain works that you consistently provide material that is so simple yet so many of us have never seen before or thought of doing. Thank you!
Quick! easy! and Efficient!
So cool!
Dude. I’m always putting some sort of extension on my small sliding block. This solves that issue. Thanks.
Very cool
You're the best!
I've a similar set-up. I have a loose six inch block to use against the fixed block for shorter cuts.
I've been using a similar set up and love it. I really need to address my dust collection around the miter saw though. The stop block system has been very effective until dust ends up in the track slots and clean out is needed before adjusting the block.
@Ryan M I just released a video regarding miter saw dust collection that might help, if you're interested! czcams.com/video/7HID6YleVsg/video.html
I did this exact setup. Offset so you can flip it like you did at the end. But the only mod I would make (the next time) is to try and get it square to the blade when away from the fence. I wasn't paying attention and the length was a little off. If I drill accurately and put two knobs, it would stay more square. Of course the downside is that it's more cumbersome to move it around. The other thing I'm thinking about is putting a "rudder" on one side of the block. Carve a dado to receive the rudder. This way, it will always be square to the blade.
A variation that may work better for some people: Miter track. Then buy locking jig hardware (many options, Rockler has one). Personally I would do that bc it’s just less to make and I’m error prone.
Hi
I need to learn how to make a thick frame as an old one for a painting . I don’t know how to fix 4 peaces to each other. With nail or metal or wooden connection in deep or something else .
cool
Sawdust getting inside a flat track is my concern. I wonder if the t-track were installed on the face would that help eliminate the issue.
In relation to the saw fence, what distance or where exactly should I install the t track on the sides?
Hopefully some dust collection is next lol.
@Gig Farron The BEST dust collection, actually. I just released a video covering this, if you're interested! czcams.com/video/7HID6YleVsg/video.html
You said the shortest you can cut is 6”. If you want to cut something say 5”, you can cut a piece of scrap 10”, set your stop at 15”, put your 10” piece against your stop block and you’ll be ready to cut 5”. 15”-10”=5”😊.
I have the same system it works great the only thing I hate is I’m for ever cleaning out the track
@Bradley Tuckwell That’s true.
Periodic shop vac massage fixes that. A track fixed on a vertical fence is a better option if doable.
What is the model number of your miter saw? Thanks!
Hmmm... I am going to have to put my hand up for thinking an off-cut was just what I needed, only to find it was part of the project I was working on - 'after' I'd run it through the saw.
@Trevor Dennis Haha! We’ve all been there!
czcams.com/video/32Z86nxRa_I/video.html - you could even put a clamp on the stop-block to attach the hose of your dust-extractor.
