The Plaid is weight-reduced and running on the stock Pirelli P Zeros on 19” wheels. (Backseats and most rear material removed. Both front seats are still IN PLACE, along with all door panels, airbags, mirrors, 20 stereo speakers and subwoofer remain intact.) These ~170 pounds make a difference of 0.11 seconds, as proven over 850+ timeslips (9.26 best went to 9.15).

UPDATE! This same Lucid Sapphire makes its best ET in our latest video czcams.com/video/Mkj1CS8CY6U/video.htmlsi=bOlcIck79XiDF_AO&t=1209
That COPO is crazy. I’m also very impressed your plaid has over 900 passes with no issues and no signs of slowing down.
Well, it appears to have slowed down a tad. He’s cut a couple hundred pounds and is running about 2 mph lower than a new Plaid.
wow, That's amazing
I thought he said 900 passes combined over 3 different Plaids
I'm not 1000% what I think about EVs yet except to say they are fast , generally consistent with decent amount of charge but when or if and not when but when they get energy density increased in batteries and reduce weight significantly , good god . Lucids apparently get very good range , they could probably make a lighter nown ne with less range that would be faster at full charge . That's what's impressive is the weight and the speed and time. But as you see here you pay for those 10ths .
Im pretty sure he stated hes made over 900 passes in 3 different Tesla Plaids...................Pay attention!
Thanks Andrew for all you help with getting the COPO dialed in!
It’s been a pleasure Greg! Always satisfying to solve a challenge as a team, and we are all thrilled to see the way your COPO is humming!
Greg your follower since you had 400 subscribers. So happy to see the Camaro. Really happy for you. Hi to Coco
Great to see that Camaro really getting after it Greg. You guys are fun to watch.. Enjoy your discussions after the races,
Nice work GMANN
It's really slingshotting off the line now 👌
That COPO launch was insane, lifted the front wheels and just held it there, 1.19 60foot is crazy
👍 Absolutely! 💯
What a great attitude, you go 0- for , with just as much dignity as when you show up and wax everybody. I try to race the same way and usually people think I,m faking or trying to bullshit them in some way. But I just want to compete at a high level and if your opponent isn’t performing at their absolute best, it doesn’t seam as rewarding to come out on top. Thanks for showing how it’s done.
Thanks for the kind words. The vast majority of drag racers are helpful respectful people. Can only think of two offhand that weren’t, out of ~2000 timeslips. That’s really saying something; most are “salt of the earth" people (humble, honest, and hardworking, essentially the 'backbone' of society)
Like we say in the fitness world...if ur the strongest in the gym...find another gym. Its good Andrew has competition to make him aim for even faster passes.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel i say a lot of the niceties has to do with your personable attitude approaching the other racers. Im sure the outcome would be different if the same racers were approached by a cocky person.
This!
Man that lucid is badass
agreed, I saw the Lucid driver and ride in person. awesome ride indeed
No "like" from the channel owner. Very sportsmanlike 😂
Eletric doesn't compare to fast v8 miles well get use of that
@@brianguse4514very funny
Greg sent me over to take a look. I love the way you are gracious with all your competitors. You make it real and fun to watch. keep up the great work.
When watching this video... Keep in mind that the COPO Camaro is a purpose built race car, it ONLY does ONE THING well! And that is go fast in a straight line. The COPO, which stands for Central Office Production Order, IS NOT street legal. In fact, it does not even come with a title! Only a bill of sale. The Tesla on the other hand is a car which can be driven on the street every day, does everything well, and will STILL run low 9 second quarter mile times! THAT is seriously impressive.
👍 Thanks for these details Greg! Very well said! 😃
Thank you! I keep learning new stuff !
Keep in mind there are daily driven cars that are way faster than that COPO that will gap Plaids like they are tied to a stump. Keep making excuses for your lame electric turds. Keep in mind that if you go on any length of trip you have to make plans to find a charging station and stay there for many hours. keep in mind you are not doing anything for the environment, in fact you are doing more harm. Keep in mind that electric cars will never ever ever be as fast as a combustion engine car. They are not impressive at all. Stop it with all the lame hype
@ultimatejay “Stay there for many hours”. Proud of your ignorance? How many cross country trips have you made in EVs? Wait, we will guess: NONE? We did. Coast to coast. We’d stop for fast food, the car was fully charged before we finished our burgers. We’d stop at a hotel. Free charging was done long before we woke up. Total cost for 2500 miles? $0. Hey Einstein: How many hours do you spend “waiting” for your cell phone to charge every day? (Are you really that ignorant or just trying to spread FUD?) And do you really believe we bought this 9.2 second car to “save the environment”? Dang, such stereotypical stupidity deserves some kind of award 🥇
@ultimatejay Big Daddy Don Garlits has been racing EV dragsters for over a decade. He obviously knows far more about drag racing than you do. Jay Leno also knows more about cars than you ever will. His Plaid is his daily driver of choice. (He owns several EVs and appreciates their many advantages.) Meanwhile, no one cares what you think. Smart folks will listen to actual experts, not cavemen. 😃
OMG THE COPO,and is the old generation ,I can’t imagine the new with the 632ci
Great upload! I love the mix of racing between electric and ICE here! Also great to see the Camaro's driver surprised and humbled by his hard work to make it to those trap speeds.
Fantastic races. We usually don't see you lose so many races in the same day but those are some quick cars.. That COPO Camaro is running unbelievable. That's one well dialed in car.
Congrats to Greg! He has that thing DIALED!!!
Andrew, great runs. I like how you are happy for the other drivers when they improve even when they beat you. You are a true sportsman. Always look forward to your videos.
The tesla plaid gentleman is a very very nice individual. I'm glad you post this run. I Have seen him before. Because of Gregory. Love all your efforts n even comentary on the video that you post. Track conditions and car settings are always the variables
Greg sent me here - badass driving and insane car my friend! Thanks for putting a smile on my face today ☺️
Dam the VP of lucid reach out to the guy and was like stop embarrassing our brand and here's alll the cheat codes and special tricks to squeeze the most out of it i wish elon would do that for tesla lol
😉 Yah, I haven’t received my phone call yet, even with around 2000 Tesla timeslips 🤔
@@TeslaPlaidChannelwe can safely say you certainly aren’t embarrassing Tesla with your shared results 😊
You’re the greatest Plaid salesman, Andrew! I bought my Plaid because of your channel! 😂
Incidentally, it also made me a safer road driver. Why? There’s nothing else to prove on the road. I drive like a grandma nowadays and that’s satisfying knowing the car has what it takes to be king of the road. Like a general reviewing the platoons as they pass me by 😊
So these CEO’s are watching good to know. Hopefully toyota saw my comment about their issues.
It is easy to do when you only sell a few.
That "gapped" comment was funny and so perfectly timed! I am very impressed with the Plaid and your consistency with it, skill of course!
way to go guys...and Greg receives extra kudos.
I told you that Sapphire was only a 1.4x 60' away from passes more in line with the claims :) but the 8.9 is likely similar to the original Dodge Demon 9.7 claim. All conditions must be right. As far as the price, this is a small company producing a full on luxury vehicle to compete with a Mercedes S class, it just so happens to also beat a Plaid in the quarter. I'll never get to own one, but maybe one day my RS3 will beat one. Nice runs!
The Camaro was flyin.
👍 He’s really got it dialed in now!
Lol I love how you added the price to the Dial In times Andrew.
Wondered if anyone would notice that 😉
"Sometimes you get a freaky car!" I drive a 1990 Toyota Tercel. Know what you mean!
That COPO's a different car. Owner's a good guy- glad he's getting it sorted out.
Great runs! You're always a great sport, Andrew.
Thanks James! 😃
Andrew, you’re always so gracious and humble. I appreciate all of your content. That copo is a beast! 1.19 60 ft. But when you stated you have over 900 passes with your Tesla that’s honestly impressive. On the other hand you wouldn’t come close to 900 passes on a 8 sec engine. And I love my sbc, bbc’s engine’s.
👍Thanks! We talked to another COPO team at the track and they rebuild their engine after EVERY 60 passes! 😳
@@TeslaPlaidChannel dang that’s crazy.. we’ll have a great weekend, and looking forward to your next video.
@@TeslaPlaidChannelimagine having the Plaid’s drive units replaced or rebuilt every 60 passes! At 900 and still like on Day 1 is incredible ❤

Andrew, what was the SOC in your Plaid and the Sapphire this time?
@@sorka95032 I launched at 81%, Sapphire was 82% 👍
That Sapphire is not worth $150k+ more in terms of performance
Some ppl will pay that for luxury !
Good job, Greg! Much more gratifying than your day job!
Really fun races! Greg's COPO Camaro performed even better than expected. And the Lucid Sapphire got dialed in to also show what it can do. These are three American cars that set new standards for performance. None are perfect, but they are each amazing automobiles. Ironically, losing to these guys is winning.
👍 Indeed! Sounds like viewers could tell that I was still having fun, even when 0-3! Thanks Dean! 😃
Brings back lots of memories.
Damn, that copo camaro is in another league. 1.199 60' is crazy! Now make it repeatable
Sapphire had a much better showing. Still, 3x the price and MARGINALLY quicker than a Plaid
The Lucid did very well considering it had about a 700lb handicap?
Much higher level of luxury thou !
@@rhett7716 you ever been in one? Not really and fit/finish issues worse than Tesla even
@rhett7716 Plaid had lots of rattling noise and that squeaks of window was horrible.
@@lowvaeaterthat’s because he removed the interior, he already mentioned that many times.
Ok, Elon, gives us plaid owners that little tweak to beat the Sapphire. ;)
All you need is a fourth motor = power will go from 1050 wheel HP (dyno confirmed) to 1400 whp or more...
Those motors are not the bottleneck but the battery is.
I am pretty sure you are correct. Semi uses same motors and is capable of 1500hp with a much bigger battery and remember the plaid+ had more range and was going to be 8.9 second car. Same motor more battery
@@Seventh7Art The Plaid's motors are rated at 1400HP total (rumors). But the battery can only supply enough "power" to make 1020HP. So a 4th motor won't help. Also, there is enough traction problems with the front wheels. So the fix is a more powerful battery pack and software that changes the amount of power to the motors. Start with way more to the back and transition to the front. And stickier / wider tires. With this idea, a 4th motor could help. Besides, there was Plaid + in the works that was cancelled, maybe it will come back. Tesla knows how to do it and Elon is paying attention.
The issue is the Lucid goal is not just to be faster than the Plaid, even when Elon puts a 4 th motor it can't compete with Licid for luxury, range, quality. Also ot properly couldn't beat the Lucid around the track. However, the goal of the Lucid is luxury, suspension, handling and a superior product but so it should be at 250k.
Dude in the Camaro can drive.
Great channel and fantastic races
Now that was fun! Great times too!
stay well
Spent a lot of time at the track when younger and something that I noticed is that a dead hook on the launch will usually get you your best ET but not highest mph. Spinning off the line you can see more mph but will give a worse time. I know it would seem like the best time would also show the highest mph but when the power is the same I think traction plays a factor in mph in an unexpected way.
👍 It does! Even when spinning badly, trap MPH is almost the same. And when a perfect run is made, it has less time on the track to accelerate, so better ET and lower MPH.
More traction usually means less MPH.
That insane Camaro built wow!
COPO launches hard!! So fast! Great races! Glad the sapphire is starting to put better times down!
That Camaro is an absolute joy to watch. Too bad it can't be driven on the street. Andrew, you are a gentleman racer. 👍
You can build one faster without too much of a problem and it will still be street legal.
That COPO was flying !!!!!!!! WOW !! Congrats !!
Great show! Thanks.
Great stuff thanks guys!!
Very nice video as usual!! That camaro is right now
That COPO Camero is a beast!😂😂!
So great to see Greg got it dialed in, congrats to him! That look on his face when you told him his time, man I know that feeling, when you work so hard for so long and struggle and finally hit it. Much love, much respect.
I wonder if dropping your pressures like the Lucid will net you a tenth? We already know the Plaid is traction-limited off the line.
We’ve made many passes at higher and lower tire pressures. Lower pressures hurt top end and reduce the trap speed, but don’t really help the 60-ft. We’ve tried drag radials, and they aren’t any faster than the Pirellis if the track is well-prepped. But our Nittos offer some consistency. The Pirellis might run a 1.44 sixty foot then as the track fades, maybe a 1.55. Nittos give us more like 1.45 for most runs, then off by a tenth at the finish line.
And full slicks were disappointing all around.
That COPO nucking futs! Makes the Plaid look slow....the Plaid runs 9's which is quick af already. Can't imagine what that COPO feels like!
Copo sure is very humble. Nice guy. Car is badass.
The Lucid and Porsche Taycan are the most beautiful electrics cars out there.
nice races Andrew, very entertaining.
This is the expected outcome of the Sapphire vs Plaid, but a used Plaid is $70k and that Sapphire is $250k. Losing by a back tire doesn’t justify spending $180k more.
You’re acting like it’s all based on drag racing
@@Tommmmmmmmmmmmtrue, but the Plaid is also a premium street legal car with a lot of comfort and tech
Yeah but the telsa looks like shit compared to the LUCID😂
True, but just not on same level of any trim of a Lucid Air. Nevermind a Sapphire
@@veritas51683 Incorrect. Own a Plaid, and tried out the Lucid and there isn't much of a luxury separation. In the flesh I was underwhelmed by the Lucid considering all the hype. The interior does not feel(let alone operate) in that unicorn tear rarified air Lucid loves to promote. If you add in the superiority of the Plaid infotainment/software/FSD (never mind the charging network), the slight (mostly subjective) advantage of the Lucid is all but gone.
18:45 that feeling when your Tesla Model S plaid gets drove around like it’s standing still
Less than a tenth of a second? Try again. And if the extra $160K is "no big deal", then you can pay the difference for every buyer...

Good video like always
Mannarino’s COPO dusted the plaid 😎 now if only the Copo was street legal 😛 Also I knew the Lucid would be much quicker when it was putting down better than 1.7 60 foot times 🙄
Street Legal wouldn’t help. He has to refill 21 pounds of ice for every pass. TWENTY-ONE POUNDS! He loads 3 seven pound bags, and it’s all melted by the end of the quarter mile. And yet it *still* struggles with overheating if idling for more than a couple minutes. Not streetable whatsoever…
Never struggles with idling. Can idle all day. The intercooler which uses the ice, is just for the supercharger, used to cool the incoming mixture which makes more power.@@TeslaPlaidChannel
@@GregoryMannarino Thanks for the data, we must be thinking about the idling for the Blue COPO we raced last year-
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Copo would totally be streetable if it wasn't for the EPA.

The Tesla Plaid is still the quickest production car under $100K. Did Tesla abandon the new Roadster?
Tesla techs says the Roadster is finished and in imminent release this year. It uses the M3P platform with Plaid powertrain. The 4680 models have been delayed because they're having problems ramping up full 4680 production which they will make in-house in giga Nevada.
Teslas are a poor mans quick car. It speaks volumes about the experience and driving engagement a real sports car brings u that an EV can NEVER. Ive been inside a tesla and is just doesnt feel like ur in something special. Its so dull and plain jane. It has no luxury. My buddy lets me drive his targa gts porsche time to time and oh my god, bro. The engine. The revs the downshifts. All the people checking out the car. Its insane. The noise alone is what makes me want to drive it over and over again. Best way to describe it is. Speeding in a tesla is like having sex with earplugs in. Only ur body feels it.( Except for the terrible wind noise in the cabin from poor sound isolation.) Real sports cars hit and fill ur entire senses. The rumbling of the engine the visceral special occasion it feels like everytime ur in it. Cant be matched. @@user-my4xu4gf1zwhen you wrote so much to diss a car, you must’ve got gapped pretty bad lol
@@user-my4xu4gf1z We find your level of ignorance to be amusing. We’ve been drag racing for over 40 years. Just in the last 5 years, we’ve counted nearly 2000 Tesla timeslips. We checked your channel…not a single one. No car building either. That explains some things.
Okay, some people need a flashy car to get a date. That’s not something to be proud of. For the rest of us, we can make our choices based on things like performance, including our trip to Sebring, where the Plaid passed a GT3 RS at over 170MPH, even with a passenger in our car! Plus reliability, without a single failure after almost 2000 runs at low 9s to mid 10s.
The rest of your comment is too inane to process further. Good luck with all of that.

👍 Thanks! You and me both! An EV convertible, maybe on the C8 Vette platform, would be awesome! 😎
Awesome video.
Does your Plaid have the track pack?
Nope, the Track Pack is a must for road racing but only slows it down for drag racing.
Depends if you’re doing 1/2 mile or not. You won’t hit your speed limiter in the 1/2 on Drag Strip Mode with the Track Pack. There’s always Track Mode without the Track Pack with a 174mph top speed, but that does lower power output some.
@@SnakesOnAPlane-SOAP There’s no 1/2 mile dragstrip in the state of Florida or any surrounding state. Maybe about 1000 miles away? In Texas?
@@TeslaPlaidChannelyour satisfied with the way the stock S plaid brakes perform ? I have heard some criticize the stopping power of such a powerful acceleration vehicle.
Almost 155mph for the Lucid is solid. He’s shooting himself in the foot with those heavy rear 21" stock wheels. Put light weight 19’s with sticky tires on all 4 corners and it’ll run 8’s all day probably with a better launch.
Agree that 19"s will help, as we've seen in our extensive testing of two Plaids side-by-side (19"s and 21"s, everything else the exact same). But other factors will still prevent 8s on "some days", including cold weather, poor track prep, etc. Even though we often run *six* 9.20s in a single night in the Plaid, we aren't immune from those factors, and have had some high 9-sec passes, occasionally anyway...
@@TeslaPlaidChannel you should sell your plaid and get a sapphire 😎 and see how quick/fast you can get it. With a baseline of 155mph it’s a great start. I bet with a few hundred pounds of weight removed it could go 157+ … with good wheels and tires on top of it, it could be a consistent mid to high 8 second car 😎 which is catching the Copo

Good races Andrew! Although you didn’t win any races, it’s nice to see everybody coming along! And as for the Lucid, they may have won the battle, but the Plaid won the war! Now it’s 3-1 ;) maybe it’s time for the Plaid to get a little upgrade? 🤔
We are READY for that upgrade! 👍
Just add a fourth motor to the plaid and boom! War’s over!
@@Maliktevin1643 while this does sound like a good idea, unfortunately it probably wouldn’t work. The plaid makes 1,020 hp and iirc, that means each of the motors make 340 hp. The plaid’s battery pack can only hold up to 1,020 hp which means if you add another motor, you gotta add more batteries. This of course means more weight, more expanse, and a lot more
@@Maliktevin1643 But if we did add another motor, that would a whopping 1,360 of electric horsepower goodness! And me personally, if Tesla made a “Plaid Plus” model, I would rename it to “ Plaid Beyond” and that would totally show the Lucid who’s boss! 😏
@@TeslaPlaidChannelIndeed! As Maliktevin mentioned, add a fourth motor and we’ll be seeing high 8’s for sure! Mid 8’s even! It’ll probably be on par with the RImac Nevera! And probably only around $100k - $120k!
Man I hate my squeaky window on my plaid..... Any fix?
We thought maybe we caused it ourselves with the steel thether cables for our GoPros. But we don’t daily drive it so hasn’t bothered us too much-
you mentioned having 3 plaids? I only remember two, the original with 21" wheels that you sold to a friend and then one with the 19" that replaced that one.
Sounds like you missed our Plaid X? We made just a handful of videos with it in early 2022, including when my dad (80 years old) wanted to buy it. Here's the one time it went to the dragstrip: czcams.com/video/ey6orORoWJU/video.html
Have you tried the michelin pilot super sports to see if they have better grip? that and the bridgestone potenza sport tires might have slightly better traction...
We’ve tried Michelin Cup2, PS4, and PS4S. Also M/T ET Street SS and Nitto NT01s. And on a friend’s Plaid, Yokohama slicks.
Those last 3 are not streetable in Florida.
We like the Pirellis P Zeros best, then the PS4. On a prepped track they allow 100% of what the Tesla power map will supply, without TC intervention, and with reasonable rolling resistance for good trap speeds. There’s no need for more tire, as the power map won’t suddenly supply more output.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel carbon roof to replace the glass roof should lower some weight.
What year is that copo?
2017. But it spent six years in storage. Greg got it last year, and his first passes were in November (see our other 4 videos with it here on this Channel)
