    When MotorTrend tested the Model S Plaid in 2021, they broke all production car records. 0-60 in 1.98 seconds - with a long list of unique variables, including a prepared surface with VHT (glue), and deleting the first foot of rollout. Astonishingly, the Lucid can match that number, on a public road! The Lucid Air Sapphire's acceleration is certifiably bonkers.
    Jason Fenske and Jason Cammisa will talk through the various systems that make this car possible, and how it achieves such insane results. Questions covered include:
    1). Why is the 1,234 HP Lucid so much faster than the 1,111 HP Lucid?
    2). Why is the Lucid's 0-60 time (acceleration) faster than its 60-0 time (braking)?
    3). Why are the fastest EVs the heaviest EVs?
    4). What is your favorite thing about the Lucid Air Sapphire?
    5). What is your biggest complaint of the Lucid Air Sapphire?
    6). Is the Lucid Air Sapphire worth $250k, especially considering the Tesla Model S Plaid is $90k?

    **Full disclosure** - this episode happened mostly by coincidence; we both happened to be at the same event, and for road drives you typically need a driving parter (not enough cars for every outlet to have their own), so Jason agreed to be in the video. That said, I'd love to get your honest feedback on it. *If* coincidentally we are are at future events together, I'm happy to try and make it happen again, if folks like the format. What would you want to see happen differently next time? And to those who watch the whole video, you the MVP, thanks!!

      Great energy, first time only listening, then watched it again, back-to-back!
      Just a 2 % gripe:
      Jason the driver should Jason the passenger finishes his points sometimes.
      Examples: Handling: “Like a hooligan, but it doesn’t bite!”. (23:32) Great quote, give it room to breathe. Infotainment “I don’t want it to be irritating” (29:09). Same. Just give the passenger 3 more seconds to finish his drive. It is a bit easier to follow and lets both of you shine a bit more.
      And that is the only negative after watching it back-to-back. So, it is a great infotainment!

    Honestly this is the perfect combo. Cammisa brings in a little more humor and seems to extract more from your as well. He also adds a dose of emotion both around a car and brand which. That transforms an object into a story. It gives a more complete picture compared to an overly pragmatic mechanical approach which obviously everyone here also deeply enjoys. Diving into the mechanics satiates the inner nerd and helps inspire creativity in your viewers own life. A driving force for turning your army of 8 year olds into tomorrows Lucid 2.0. Best auto related video I’ve watched in a while.

As an engineer with the flawed engineer brain, I love the authentic, unscripted banter about the Air and its unbelievable successes as well as the discussion of Lucid's uncertain future as a new player in the automotive world. Appreciating breakthroughs in technology while simultaneously critiquing the perfectionist mindset in the real world (all with an hint of automotive history) is simply the perfect mix. You both communicate well and have excellent chemistry together. I really hope you guys continue to collaborate in this relaxed fashion. They are forced by the rules of business to do exactly what they are doing. Luxury cars make the quickest ROI for manufacturers. Bottom feeder cars are needed to bolster the long term bottom line as well, but that takes longer, hence the Tesla Model S first, then the Model 3 and Y. Ford did the Model T, in any color you wanted, but all at the same time, black. But that market was there waiting for that product. The timing was impeccable. That can’t be done right now. Remember though, that when the Model S was the most important car to come out since the Model T, said the major magazines. I agree.

Jason, history history history, manufacturing, blah blah blah, "and here's what slide rule crowd says", walk over to you with a whiteboard segment on some inane detail of the car and some banter. It'd be kinda fun seeing another foil other than Randy.

      2) If I had FU money, would I buy a Lucid over a Tesla? Yes.

    You guys were driving one of five cars Lucid produced to give the media and others for testing and evaluation. My son-in-law works at the plant in Casa Grande, AZ where they are built. He was one of the last humans to go over and make sure everything was perfect on all five cars. When they sold the first Saphire to a real customer, he was assigned to install the front and rear windscreens to make sure they were as perfect as could be without damage (long story there) along with checking the entire car. His only complaint is he hasn't been able to drive one more than a few feet inside the plant. The SUV is coming soon. I hope Lucid stays in business.

    CZcams collabs usually suck. Either there is nothing of substance to the video, or it's so over-scripted and gone though so much back- and forth that nothing of the dna of the individual creators remains.
    That being said, this is an example of excellent chemistry between the hosts with genuine insight in and passion for the subject. Maybe it's bias because I do believe that Jason C. is the best automotive jurnalist on the plattform, but I think this is truly great. It's been a long time since the "good" Head 2 Heads of Motor Trend, but I think this might even exceed them.
    Really good video. I hope you get the opportunity to work together again.

      They're inseparable aspects. If you spend three times as much as you charge, when your competitors spend 80% of what they charge, it's much easier to provide higher quality. But unsustainable quality is... unsustainable. Compromises have to be made or they will go bankrupt, like most car brands in history.

    • @newtonfirefly3584
      @newtonfirefly3584 Před 4 měsíci

      @@Muskar2 You both lack the information, knowledge that Lucid designs, develops, manufactures, produces every electric motor for Tesla and Lucid.
      Tesla purchases all of their components from other manufactures, producers. Only their S/W is developed within Tesla along with the robot manufacturing implementation, with assistance; Both of these have serious issues.
      Tesla has "Globalist/Elite" backing as do Lucid, Rimac, etc. Elon Musk is among their 'puppets', at least since PayPal with Peter Thiel; co-founders. Continues with Tesla, Space X [Jim Cantrell, first Exec VP, engineer, developer - now Phantom Space]
      Be Aware, Informed, Knowledgeable, BEWARE !!
      All of these EV and nearly all modern vehicles have complete manufacture control => Avoid - at any cost - even [seemingly] FREE => NOT FREE; NO Freedom !! 😞
      Good Luck

    That was ridiculously sublime. I enjoyed every second of the banter and especially the content. On the other hand, I think non-engineers could find this a bit too content-rich, and the overall market potential of this video might be a touch limited. Kinda like the Lucid Sapphire itself.

    Interesting conversation. I love the direction Lucid is taking with the Sapphire.
    Regarding the difference between the Sapphire and the Plaid with some small differences they are very similar in the straight and on the track as far as actual times. The rest is subjective feelings. Whether the price difference is worth it highly depends upon the buyer.
    There are certainly a lot more people who can afford $90k vs. $250k. Overall the competition and pace of advancement is a huge win for everyone. It’s not just changing the auto industry, it’s changing the energy industry, robotics, Ai, really the entire world.

  • @tboy911

    How about a head to head with the Plaid with track pack for $110k vs the Sapphire at $250k

    • @colin-nekritz
      @colin-nekritz Před 6 měsíci

      This is more about how the petulant manchild Elno aka Phony Stark and his sycophants insist on all these conditions and the Lucid comes along, didn’t insist on conditions, and can beat the Plaid, it can even beat the Plaid 0-60 on a public road any given time not under ideal conditions. This about one company that makes everything up as they go along to game their stock price, spinning a yarn about its questionable, often patently false greatness, just like liar Musk’s own manufactured backstories, and a company run by actual engineers (which Musk is not) comes along and just spanks the empty cardhouse of Tesla fragile egos and makes its cultist fanboys, like you, cry.
