- We try the Fish and Chippery in Trecco Bay Parkdean, Porthcawl. How does this chippy compare?
Last year we reviewed all the ‘permanent’ fish and chip shops in Porthcawl but we thought it was time to try some of the chip shops which are open seasonally.
The Fish and Chippery is operated by Parkdean resorts and you can find it in the centre of the Trecco Bay caravan site. As with the previous chip review videos we tried the fish, chips and a curry sauce.
We judged the fish and chips just as we found it on the day.
During the holiday season, the Fish and Chippery is open from midday, 7 days a week.

Pollock is a lot cheaper to buy than Cod so they shouldve adjusted the price accordingly
Great review Marcus, we always go to the Chippery when they are busy for freshly cooked fish & chips. We will be there next week on holiday. @39 seconds you passed our caravan, cant wait!
The chips were not too bad, it was a quiet lunch time, they are probably better when fresher during the busier times. Glad to see your caravan is OK and not full of squatters.
A head-to-head between O’Sheas and Boofy’s on the Barry Island seafront would be worthy of both your expert opinion! Literally next to each other, fierce rivals and a final showdown is needed!
We have done them both although not as a head to head. Actually I went to one of them on my own, without Mel.
Great video thanks for sharing your videos are always enjoyable and relaxing can't wait to see more of your videos soon have a great day greetings from Canada 😀
Great! Thank you!
Good video carry on with the reviews love it lol 👍
We will do a couple more over the summer.
Hey to both of you
I sooooo love all your vids !
I'm born and bred Porthcawl..rest bay. Live on Anglesey at moment but back and fore visiting mum a lot lately.
Like yourselves always been interested in the history of the town and surrounding area. Indeed planning to move back home permanently.
My dad was a long term member of the pirates club. Its next to the old knights Arms and has a bit of history.
Down soon would love to chat about Porthcawl
All the very best
Mark Davies
Thanks for watching! Yes, I know the Pirates Club in the old square next to the Salthouse (known as the Ship and Castle year's ago). We've got a few trips planned over the summer but we're normally around most of the time.
Thanks for the honest review. What you experienced is typical of most corporate establishments that are run by accountants and middle management - you end up with a mediocre service and a lame product. There is no striving for excellent or pride that you typically find in independent establishments.
On a side note, I think Mel would be in a much more amenable demeanour if you treated her to the odd Jumbo Sausage - she hasn't had one for months (well not on your videos anyway).
Would you considering doing some secret cove hunting in your next video? I am interested in finding a beach that requires a bit of a walk to get to because there is no immediate parking to be had and has a difficult approach. Anywhere that noisy families are reluctant to visit.
Thanks, we nearly went for the sausage.
Secret coves, we don't want to give their locations away in case the families turn up.
@@flydriveexplore It's quite Understandable that you wish to keep certain places secret, but as least you have confirmed that such places exist. I will be digging out my maps and exploring with Google Earth. I am even prepared to pay farmers or other landowners a fee if need be to access their land to get to these secret places. I just can't stand chavs.
@@flydriveexplore classy come-back i like it lol
Went to trecco in May. The curry sauce was a lot thicker when husband and myself had it probably depends who makes it as it comes as a dry mix it was the same at sandford holiday park enjoy your videos keep going doing awesome
Thanks for watching.
They must have been trying to make that curry sauce last a few more days
Hello thank u so much for sharing with us your dining experience of fish and chips there at fish and chippery. Honestly i like fish and chip if they use cod fish.
I found everything to be expensive on this site. I quite like the chips from Mansels by the fair, wasn't keen on beals
Your right on the curry sauce. Its thin, like water. Apparently they stopped serving the irish curry sauce (my favorite) about 4 years ago.
£8.49 for regular cod, £3.79 for chips - not impressed!!
i knew as soon as you said in your last vid when you asked if you should try the fish & chips....im a manager in wholesale, the price of cod is mad but there is NO supply problems(im sure the rest of the chippys in Porthcawl got cod),but yet they charged you and mel the same price for pollock???as for the curry, always avoid the curry with the floaty things, cheap & nasty.got to say mind,i heard the crunch of the batter, seemed the best part.
Floaty things in a runny sauce, not the best.
Just the chips on their own were OK. We may try some of the other chip shops around the fair 🤞
The curry looked like dinaclass curry, same who make.the Irish curry mix. Dinaclass is a good curry if you actually add the recommended mix and not be a cheap skate again and serve it as tap water consistency. Other than that u can make it thick and full of flavour.
You two are the best.
Thank you.
I remember now, when we went there it was called “Lew’s” fish and chips and my wife had chips and I had mince beef and onion with chips. When we went there was at least thirty years ago,in our caravan days. The ones in town are nicer. After driving fifty miles we needed to spend a penny and right opposite the toilets is Beatles fish and chips so that was it.Just to be sure we used to book a table because of its popularity, the food was always first class.Happy Days.
My wife’s dad used to run this chippy a long time ago. Boathouse is my favourite in town.
We went to Beales when we were down there and it was so good, one of the nicest chippies we've had.
Glad you liked them, Beales has been there since the 1930s.
Beales always reliable
Agree - Pollack is not for everyone - to me it shouldn't be served up in batter as for most people its too strong on flavour. Its a bit like Hake, very fishy and should be portioned, cooked and presented accordingly. Personally i prefer Hake way above Pollack but in small portions. By the way Marcus - let the Good Lady Mellissa finish what She wanted to say :)
Not the best fish and chips. The curry sauce looked way to watery. 49p for tomato sauce. 🙈
The curry sauce was bad!
Another fair review. The curry sauce looked bad and no choice, not good. I suppose with all fish and chips shops you are at the mercy of the person cooking that day. Here I suspect that the person cooking would be a "jack of all trades" or may have been trained recently. Perhaps it would be better at the end of the season when experience has been gained, but I would not ask Mel to do another review there. I would make the walk into town personally, just for the Irish Curry Sauce. Thanks for the video.
Yes, it may be worth a walk into town.
Wow that was expensive, the chippy I really like is chips to go, opposite the Buccaneer, always a welcome, a fair price and good food. Be interesting your thoughts on Sam,s as he is the owner.
Count yourself lucky, stayed there last year and the "fish and chip shop" had no chips, who'd have thunk it, and I don't eat fish!!! normally have battered sausage or chicken burger, still these things happen, like the place in general, going next week.
Why not do a follow up in a week, as I have experienced yesterday's chips re fried or microwaved. Also ridiculous prices. Is it value for money? Maybe you came on a GOOD day!
Don't like the sound of yesterdays chips and congealed curry sauce!
Must be about forty years or more since we ate there.Sorry about the fish ,I wouldn’t have liked that.Great video
Yep, the fish wasn't too good.
I was told that they use McCaine frozen chips mate of mine used to work there
And the chips were the best part.
What happened to the other chippy that had been there for years?
I think they are all still here.
Thank-you both, I shall stick to Beales !
As a local the chip shops on the waterfront are much better
Was the pollock cheaper than cod?
They hadn't altered the price.
Bit of a rip off that
Can you remember roosters that was over other side years ago?
Can't remember that name, where was it?
@flydriveexplore on trecco bay next to where book makers was?
Hello, great video and great to see you today you made my partners day.
Please could she have a shout out for her birthday which was yesterday. 31st.
Laura
Keep up the great videos

Hi, good to meet you. I'll see what I can do in the next video.
Cantonese/Chinese takeaways of Porthcawl reviews please?
Thanks for the idea but we may stay away from local reviews (they know where we live)!!!
Me and my family go on holiday to porthcawl every year and I can tell you nobody in my family likes the fish shop by papa johns were always sick after it in my opinion it is the worst fish shop in porthcawl
I would add that the only accompaniment to fish and chips in a polystyrene cup should be either. subject to personal preference:: jellied eels [sick/horrid/vomit inducing] ketchup/brown sauce [yes] peas [not nice but less horrid than eels] onions [yes] gravy [ just what are you thinking - like its a Sunday roast?] thousand island sauce [maybe] Heinz salad cream [maybe] Mayonnaise [hmm no, but the Belgians seem to like it] and the list goes on. Curry Sauce and / or gravy is to be in no uncertain terms shunned and shamed. Keep eating and can we have a Spam Fritter or Burger fritter review? I don't know why but given the choice between a nice piece of Cod or a fritter I go for fat and decadence...
Bring on the grease...
yes
You used to work down there!!!
@@flydriveexplore SHH! DON'T TELL THEM!!
👍
Got a few black chips in that I’d give it a3 out of 10 take a tip if you want the curry hotter take some chilli powder with you
Hi guys.
Hi.
Just go to beals not far from the hi tide, much nicer fish and chips
Best fish and chips in South Wales.. Sheppard's Maesglas Newport Gwent
Lol 😂
Mine was 3 over cooked fish and horrible chips jest disgusting 😢
I am not much on curry
I do like a 'good' curry sauce with chips
Sad to say Trecco has gone to the dogs. Over priced and just wouldn't bother. Everything in Porthcawl is over priced. Wouldn't mind paying it in Cornwall but this is Porthcawl... sorry its over rated.
The resort is quite good, the prices not so good maybe.
Also.... Pollock ot cheaper than cod. So false advertising on menu offering cod, pillocks cheaper hence Cornwall wanna be, serving pollock? Come on guys.... the colour of the fish is dark grey cheap cut, not to much of a fillet its the tail part, cheaper again.. I wouldn't eat from there.
Pollocks
Ive done tests on most chip shops porthcawl some are good some are terible
This was quite average. Mel didn't really like it
@@flydriveexplore my fave in porthcawl is beales.
