Daniel: play what sounds good
Also Daniel: *creates a symphony*
but thats the whole point. he just put some random stuff together
He played what sounded good
"Play what sounds good" is literally how I make music. I know nothing about key, tone, or even really how to play, I just make what I think sounds at least decent.
Exactly, most music listeners don't care about the shit we musicians do.
Same, I literally just think “okay what sounds funky/reasonable?” when making music. Then do it. I know like, 2 minutes of music theory.
yes
Knowing music just makes it easier to find more original things that sound good
But what's hard is finding what sounds good. At least, to me. I'm never satisfied with what I do. But there's no shame in playing others' music.
As someone who knows literally nothing about music, this shit is always witchcraft to me
imagine its like a language. you have latters that form words that form phras's that form sentences and so on and so forth. so you start by learning the ABC then expand you rvocabulary. after you have done that you start reading and slowly you learn to speak out the words only then you can form yourown sentences and start telling your own stories.
this is how music works/ you dont have to learn theory or anything but it can help your grammer, you can just learn abit at a time and listen and soon enough before you notice you will be a musician.
pick up an instrument and go have fun you will never know where it takes you :)
@@user-in4uo7zj9w sorta but there are plenty of people who just pick up an instrument and figure it out
@@-Teague- hell yhe. There are infinate ways to learn go do your thing and be happy. Music should be fun, if its not fun your doing it wrong for you
you don't really need to know anything particular! music made through trial and error can be a beautiful thing
God day fellow NB pal🧐🎩
"You don't have to do anything special..."
**Me hearing the most beautiful song in my life.**
See, I can't make up something that sounds nice. Like some people can't dream? I can't hear original music in my head. So I stick to writing, and greatly appreciate those of you with the natural ability to create music for me to listen to ❤️
I'm the exact opposite
I’ve found that making music isn’t always about taking an idea in your head and bringing it into reality (in fact, it took me a while to get to the point where I hear original compositions in my head). Instead, music is often a process where you throw something at the wall and see where it leads. As some else put it, “I’m not creating music, I’m discovering it.”
@@thelastchannelonyoutube Strongly second the "I'm not creating music, I'm discovering it" attitude
I don’t think any of the music I’ve ever made has really come from my head, I pretty much just try techniques Ive heard from other songs changing a few things around until I like it! Like someone else said, just try stuff until it works!
@@thelastchannelonyoutube Thats exactly how I make music. I either play something random on the piano and see if I can make it sound good, or I find a cool sounding chord progression and make a song around that
It's hilarious that even after studying music all my life this is how I go about writing as well. The principal of "KISS" (keep it stupid simple) is just what you need to enter that creative flow state.
Very interesting. I’ll keep that in mind!
I've always wanted to compose my own music, and this was the kick I needed. Thanks Daniel. You've been an inspiration in more ways than one.
Have fun and I’d love to see some compositions if you ever decide to post on CZcams! :)
@@thejabberwocky5884 I've actually posted a few filmscore covers on my channel, but I want to go into composing. Thanks.
Man's created a masterpiece on the spot
What I do normally do is sit down, grab my guitar and just mess around, I always come up with something. I tend to get in the feel of things and come up with something that sounds really good. I say just vibe out, record yourself so you won't forget ideas, and see what you can make.
I'm really glad this was posted. It really shows off how beautifully Daniel can play the piano
Man's writing a Twenty One Pilot's song live ❤️
Your sample turned into something beautiful.
Every time he added something I thought that'd be it, but then he just kept going and going
This is such great advice for people in a rut. It's the acronym K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Don't aim for being original or aim to blow someone's mind. It will come to you naturally as you progress and make more stuff.
Hey, I know this isn’t your original take, but I just wanted to say that this comment helped me a lot. I am already at the point where I make original music that are seen as impressive, but even then getting in the “make it cool” mindset causes me to not have as much fun and therefore not be as creative as I wish I was. As soon as I read this comment, I felt personally attacked, but tried to stay open-minded and tried out the KISS strategy and it is immediately showing results. So, thank you.
Ik he said just play what sounds good and that it can be simple but it also takes talent to do what he did. He’s so good!
A lot of people don’t seem to get what Daniel was trying to show. He didn’t know how the song was going to end up when he started. All he did was come up with a simple loop and just kept adding things that “sounded good”.
The accidental advice loop at the end fucking SENT me
I loved that little improv song so much. It was so peaceful, and sounded almost nostalgic. Just wow
Exactly, :D you can build something that really speaks to your brainwaves with simple little phrases that you can build upon, it’s very therapeutic.
I need to actually figure out how to loop and layer stuff together though :,)
Holy mackerel, after listening to that... All I want is a second channel or a Spotify of your musical doodles 🙏
Gsus, I am lowkey crying listening to that piece wtf
i've been writing lyrics for quite a while, but i'm always afraid to actually compose because I dont know music. This video and the comment section really helped me. Thank you guys!
i really think if everybody made and share more art, even if its just for fun, the world would be a better place.
I appreciate your ability to pull a new song out of your ass at any given moment. So cool.
To the person that asked what you do when it sounds off and you can’t tell, you call that “jazz”
That beautiful music now lives rent free in my head
Thinking about making my own
Love your streams on Twitch. Hope you do more soon. 🌼🌼🌼
He sounds like Oak in Pokemon Snap when he says "Welcome to the kingdom"
It's beautiful Daniel 🥺
*wipes tear*
Thank you for the encouragement
always love your stuff dude ur an inspiration
wasn't expecting the legit good advice lol. thanks!
I had flashbacks to Flula making loops in his car back in the day.
great music writing advice. thanks thrasherplus.
Oh my gosh this was awesome. Thanks for sharing, king.
1:06 EXCUSE ME CHAT?
He sings that in his last video: "They gave me 30 days to make a show" loll it was so funny
This is actually a beautiful song
this gives me the same vibes of implicit demand for proof by twenty one pilots, and i'm here for it
That was awesome
This is awesome!
Thanks bro
Thanks!
That was beautiful
*when you're just walking around in Skyrim"
(majesticly enjoying a pice)
(fucking dies)
He's got an RC 505 nani?
That loop 😂.
Exactly. That's what I do
So I see the video after 1 minute of posting. 24 likes and 7 comments when youtube says there have only been 5 views
Time manipulation is the only explanation.
ok that actually helped
Dude, I promote a Thrasher Symphony!
Terry would’ve loved this
Nice

Theory will always follow the music, not the other way around

Hey Daniel, what devices are you using to do the looping thing?
I'm learning piano, only have a keyboard at home, but I think this is really cool!
Very pretty
Adding the synth made it Runescape music
He has nice headphones and great music. That’s a 2 in one
isn't that first part from lumineers patience xD same note atleast
i know what he mean
Speed it up and it's pirates of the Caribbean
Make that into a song
that went from 0 to awesome real quick
sounding like minecraft music
In summary: *git gud* and *play gud*
Plot twist. He dies in the end. Sorry to ruin it for everybody.
No
This video should have been titled , Know what I mean?
How to write music:
Step 1: Write music
Get good lol
It’s good advice
WHEP gotta go practice violin now...
not to flex?
Bro said nothing special and pulls out a fucking tv show intro that was never made 💀
L
You legit just made an adele song
Have fun with music. If you're not enjoying it, why bother. You should "play" your instruments not "work" your instruments
