Luigi has become a beloved character from the Mario franchise. But when we look into his history, it becomes incredibly clear that Luigi is less than we attribute to him. Almost to the point of... sadness? Just what was the point of creating Luigi, and how does that contrast to what hes become?

I sometimes miss that final smash, it was unique, but what we have now is much more faithful to Luigi nowadays.

When Zeppeli (an Italian) died, he transferred his life energy into Jonathan. Later, DIO took Jonathan's body. Giorno is DIO's son. Therefore, Giorno is part Zeppeli, and as a result, part Italian.

He doesn't want Mario to leave him behind, he thinks his big bro rocks, he's worried that Mario might never come back if he goes to fight whatever captured Peach (Antasma), follows him (there's a scene where up to five dreamy weegees follow Mario but if he turns around they disappear), and finally says "Luigi... will follow you; We'll always be with you, Mario; Always."
honestly, this is exactly why i loved his brawl final smash, for the first time we finally understood "who" luigi was, and i feel like that final smash and the description it brought was what made everyone resonate with him. it was so random and had no lore reference...but we all understood why he had it.
"forever in marios shadow" in both his lore, and irl, he was always just a alternative to mario when needed. his cowardice is seen as a bad trait, but in reality, its much more relatable then being a hero. and being able to overcome his fears to be just as heroic as mario could even be seen as a desirable trait moreso then just being a hero.
brawl's final smash was so impactful because it symbolized luigi's no longer a mindless clone. that luigi isn't happy with just being another mario. and ever since he has slowly strayed away from mario's moveset while still clearly showcasing that he still IS mario's twin brother. honestly, even if accidental, it really feels like a compelling story arc. and honestly, really suits what happened in his games as well. going from a copy, to a clone, to his own character with influence from his brother.
What I like about this is the progression is it's as if Luigi battled his insecurities from Brawl to Ultimate. Compare to his Brawl self - extremely weird, constantly sad, not counting the previously mentioned Final Smash. But look at the progress throught all of the games - now he's cheerful and smiling in his idle animation and almost as if show that he isn't a clone anymore, he now uses his Shuffle as a jump, his running animation is different, he uses the Plunger Shot as his grab and for his Final Smash, he no longer weaponizes his depression, but his thrusty gadget Poltergust. He even smiles, even if he loses too!
And he doesn't count as an echo in Ultimate. :)
That bit about the fireballs was so cool. I always thought that was just a creative take that they never bothered swapping to an electric ball (referencing Mario and Luigi) for the same reason as Gabon changing so slowly. Now I that I know the fire balls have an actual basis I appreciate them way more.

This quote is the definition of Luigi. He's timid and scared, but he's still heroic. Through his unique quirks he finds a way to persevere despite his own true weaknesses.
As Mewtwo would say “I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are” Luigi may have been born as just a clone to Mario but he’s much more now

I think this may be the best episode. It's got some of the best jokes (the strong italians joke, the Doki Doki Panic joke), but at the same time it's a very in depth (maybe even philosophical) look at Luigi's character and purpose.
It feels good to hear Alax pull out all the DDLC music on Halloween day, like I’ve been transported back in time.
We got DDLC plus this year too and man I've been loving it.

I feel like a certain part of luigi's personality must have came from the fact that it was the little brothers the ones who had to be the second player, the older brothers almost always wanted to be Player 1(which was Mario) and the younger one was forced to play as player 2(Luigi), probably the reason why Luigi ended up being the younger brother, it's amazing how people irl can make a clone character be more amazing than the og XD

There to be a huge misconception when it come to luigi. A lot of people refer to him as cowardly when that could not be further from the case. A coward runs away and sells out everything he has in order to survive, luigi doesn't really do that. I like to think of it this way: Mario is brave and luigi is courageous, whats the difference you ask? Being brave is doing something without fear which we see time and time again from mario. But being courageous however is being scared to do something yet still doing it anyway.
There is a reason in zelda its called the triforce of courage and not the triforce of bravery, one can only imagine how scared most renditions of link are when facing such towering foes yet overcoming them anyway via sheer will.
Not to mention both Luigi and Link wear green (most of the time) and although thats not reputable evidence to anything I just thought it was interesting. Especially when you grasp even further and look to something like green lantern. The green lantern represents will power which again ties to both how Luigi and Link will themselves to fight despite their fears and fighting foes that would make most crumble. In summation Luigi is no coward, he is scared but doesn't make him any less of a hero than mario, he still gets the job done like his brother and thats why we love the weird, green do gooder.

I'm surprised there was never a Sega commercial where they bragged about how Tails was a more unique character than Luigi.
And I completely agree with the message of this video. The reason a character was created isn't what matters, their modern depiction does. You would never be able to tell what Luigi was originally supposed to be if you only saw him in recent games.

I have something to say here. The only character I have ever played as in this game is Luigi, making it very easy for me to time jumps. It’s not about who you play as, but if you’ve practiced them enough.
This was an analysis of a video game character moveset in a fighting game where Sephiroth can fight Duck Hunt Dog and Duck and slowly started to become an existential crisis about the worth of said character and then changed to a motivation message that says "nobody is perfect but you don't need to be perfect to live" in the end.
I loved it.

Because I didn't play Doki Doki Literature Club, I didn't get the references until much later in the video after various mentions of Doki Doki Panic. Honestly, that was quite meta.

Over this summer I've been playing Doki Doki Literature Club, thanks to many influences, including your videos with Monika and got quite obsessive and in denial, very much akin to Yuri, the Doki I associate with, so yes, the Doki Doki theme hit instantly.
In fact I started this before the video finished, so the upcoming ones were great and really highlights character development, as well as Team Salvato's craft and essentially retooling Doki Doki Panic, which I didn't realise until the video.

To be honest, if the next Smash game isn’t a port of Ultimate, I’d be down for it being a reboot with characters being redesigned like if Luigi had moves relating to Luigi’s Mansion and maybe the Thunderhand from Superstar Saga.
Honestly, though I like the knife jab, Thunder Hand should totally be his updated side smash.
