    My garage looks like HELL! I have 2 ‘67 Camaro convertibles wasting outdoors. Your videos really spur me to haul the stupid washers and dryers and other such nonsense away and get my tail busy keeping these beauties out of the ground. Thank you!!!

    Hey Jon. I also use the Eastwood Ceramic Engine Paint in Chevy Orange. Agree, it works great and it’s tough stuff. And doing the epoxy as a first step I also feel is important.👍

    Great job Jon!
    I did my engine the same way, except I have aluminum heads and intake, which I left bare.
    I also have a dual snorkle air cleaner with a chrome lid that I painted Pontiac metallic blue.
    I think it's going to look awesome in the engine bay, when it finally gets there. I'd post a picture if I knew how.

      Metallics do funny things. Even the air pressure and distance you spray it at can change the appearance or color.

    that paint works quite well...like you said..a little pricey but looks great. used it on my brothers engine and gonna use it on two of mine

      @@oldschooltwist18 I know 🫤. If there was one thing I could change about Pontiac is exhaust port design, I like the engine to look nice and the touch up pant job just doesn’t look great

    You cannot use acid etch primer with any polyester based primers or fillers, as the acid in the etch primer will partially de-activate the benzoyl peroxide hardener in the polyester filler or primer, and the layer next to the etch primer will never harden.

    I was told not to primer an engine, something to do with the engine not being able to expel the heat and it will end up overheating. So I guess I am asking for your input on that note

      I was told the same thing years ago as well, even painting a transmission was a bad idea for the same reason. BUT I have primed and painted several engines with out having an overheating issues. In addition to that have you watched bitchin rides? they paint engine and transmission with a way more paint then I use. So I can’t tell you the textbook answer I can only say I am not concerned.

    High volume low pressure. 40psi is not low pressure. My old gun ( not a hvlp) I use 60psi to paint metalic paints. At work since the early 90's we use hvlp guns and run them under 20psi. For painting industrial machinery.

      Paint guns are not created equal some will spray as low as 13 psi and others when trying to push syrup need more typically not more then 35psi is the goal but that is not set in concrete. My gun is 15 years old and can’t even say my pressure gauge is accurate it’s a harbor freight special. I just set it to the day and what seems to work plus every paint gun is different there is no exact set up that works for every gun every time. Most the time it takes some playing to dial it in. Ideally less pressure would be nice but the gun I have won’t atomize much lower with that engine paint unfortunately. It splotches the metallic. I only shared how I did it as an example of the ins and out and final results and the primer and blue laid out even and uniform in color.

    I know this is a video on engine painting but my question is about when is the best time to unmask a car after clearing

      Good question. This is just my opinion. I like to peal it off as soon as the paint flashes off to the point if you were to lightly touch the clear it wasn’t sticky but still soft. Reason being if you have a hard tape line and peal the tape off when totally dry I think you could possibly peal some off the clear or lift the paint if for some reason it had an adhesion issue or worse yet the tape gets stuck and part of your final paint job. Now when peeling the tape off be cautious not to let it stick to the new paint it will leave a mark. Again just my thoughts and why not sure what is taught in schools

    Almost to pretty to put in the car! What did you ever decide with your initial timing gear setup for distributor drop in. I know it will work more than one way but there is a right way or should I say a usual and expected way. I weigh in to try and start conversations on your channel for you never to be pretentious. Engine looks great, would probably run better if it were orange though........

      The timing chain question answer is it’s fine the way it is. Like I said in the video it doesn’t matter if you line up the cam at 12 or 6 o’clock. When it comes to the chain timing NOW THIS DOESNT HOLD TRUE FOR DISTRIBUTOR TIMING ALWAYS DROP IN WITH CYL1 TDC
      the center line of the crank, cam and dots are all on the same line it’s good. When it can become an issue is if you don’t confirm Cyl #1 top dead center compression when installing distributor. Like observed in the video my timing dots are 6 and 12 o’clock, if you feel better at 12 and 12 just rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees and done, no need to remove the chain and reset the gears.
      As an experiment next time you assemble an engine timing set the way you prefer and works for you. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees you find the cam timing dot is exactly 180 degrees from your preferred mark. Just like in my video. This should assure you that the chain/cam timing is correct
