    I rebuilt my transmission myself also, I was a bit paranoid about it so took it to a local shop just to have them go through it, I had one steel in the wrong place but otherwise the guy said I did a great job on it. I've had it in the car driving for three years now with no issues, best $100 I ever spent!

      @VinylVillageGarage That's what I'm afraid of. Put one piece in wrong and smoke the whole trans. 😮

  • @abrown5516
    @abrown5516 Před 2 měsíci +2

    I remember the first transmission I put in did not seat the torque converter blew the pump! Waist of $$$ and time second transmission was very careful put new seal seated the converter it was a used transmission but worked great! Great work keep it up very informative. I just wished I had a easy transmission to rebuild but unfortunately I have a BOP 200-4R so a shop will get it.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I trashed a pump years ago for that same reason, some lessons are costly for sure but hasn’t happened again. 200-4r is a nice mod. Get overdrive and bolts up with a new crossmember and good to go if swapping out a th350.

    • @gregpiecuch3802
      @gregpiecuch3802 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Actually if you have the time and patience it's no harder to rebuild then a th350. I bought a how to video and a kit off the Internet and rebuilt mine. Works great and already has 138 thousand on it. You might have to make or buy a couple special tools also.

    "Adult supervision" 🤣🤣 Good one. I picked up a turbo 400 for my Bird and torque converter for 220 bucks. Not bad. I'm not sure if I should tackle rebuilding it myself tho 🤔

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey I am just playing cars. Well that is what I call it anyway. So adult supervision might be required sometimes.lol My coworker worked at a transmission rebuild shop for several years and appreciative of him offering to over see the process. Now if it fails still on me. I did most of the work he only shared the important parts and gave me some advice. So we shall see

    As always lots of great info. Thank you for sharing.
    I recently rebuilt my TH400 also. I had always been intimidated to take one apart.
    Turns out they're not all that complicated and they actually break down into sub assemblies.
    I won't know if mine works for awhile either. But all the air checks were good and it turns freely.
    I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Now that I have seen the inner workings they really are not to bad. Like you said passed air testing and still rotates so should be good. I plan to test run the engine and run the trans thru the gears. I know that wont guarantee much but if it at least rotates thr output Forward and reverse I will feel a little better about it.

    My husband and I really enjoy your website and comments on your restoration projects. We have a 69 Firebird we have had for 40 years and really enjoy cruising in it, although being in Ontario, Canada we do have to store it in the winter months. My husband would like to ask you what gaskets you use for the taillights in the 69 and how they fit as he has experienced problems getting the right fit. Thanks so much and keep up the good work.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! Seems the Firebirds are very popular in Canada and Pennsylvania. Get a lot of views from both. As for tail light gaskets my dad makes them up from a foam material. Seems to work good. I will add it to a future video

      You have heard the same thing. I had a pertronix in my GTO did it nearly 20 years ago and it still works great now but the reviews on current product had really lead me to go a different way. They changed the design and it’s just not durable now unfortunately

      @@VinylVillageGarage after having four of these fail in three different vehicles that I've worked on in the past few years I won't use them. Unfortunately like many companies they have cheaped out and increased their price sad to see they use to be great upgrade for points.

      @@VinylVillageGarage Good deal. I was worried there for a minute. I am going to swap out the 4 speed for a Turbo 400 when I restore my 1978 Chevrolet K10 Sport though. It's going to be a mall crawler. My '69 Firebird is going to get a 6spd.

    So what determines if the car came with a th350 or a th400? My 69 firebird 350 2brl came with a th400 and my 69 firebird parts car came with a th350. Same 3502brl etc. Only difference is the 69 with the th400 is a factory ac car.

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Good question, I can’t say 100% why, only that it was an option and when it was built someone wanted to go with the Th400 with a 350 most definitely not common this is actually the first time I have been told of car being configured that way
