  • Test firing the engine requires hooking up the systems, power steering, transmission cooler, radiator and fill with antifreeze and hope it all stays in. Project mockingbird getting closer to test firing day and then getting the subframe reattached to the body.

    I love how detailed you are, not a lot of youtubers like you! I'm loving these videos and whatever you decide to record either super boring or super cool, I'm going to watch!

      Right on much appreciated, the details matter and really doesn’t add that much time either. Make a huge difference in final results. Thank you for watching and comments it helps me out 😎

    Great stuff Jon! I wholeheartedly agree that it is much easier to work on/fix without the fenders, nose, etc. Would love to see an in depth how-to on putting together the nose components - front header, side bumpers, reinforcements, headlight mountings, fillers, bumper, etc. And then getting all of that to align and look decent. Thanks!

      Definitely will be adding those to the video library, thanks.

      Seconded on this. My 69' is not well aligned and it would be great to see the process!

    I know my old eyes miss a lot, but I didn't see the part number on the screen. I remember the 454 video. Good job.

    Great vid about doing a specific part of the restore! Detailed enough for nubes, but also informative for old hands!

      That is quite the compliment, glad to hear this helps newbies and seasoned builders I like the sound of that.

    Can’t wait to see how you align the sub frame to the body.

    The rubber radiator mounts on the drivers side allow the radiator to expand and contract as it is heated and cools, otherwise the radiator will develop cracks.

    Pretty neat. I've never seen a power steering cooler before, must be a Pontiac only thing.

      I think it is. I know the first time I saw one I had no clue what it was for.

    That rubber nut is providing vibratiion dampening. I learned by my exposure they are called well nuts. Some antizeze might help the removability.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Well nuts are also used on the voltage regulator on 68 birds, might have to buy some in bulk if i keep building birds

    You could mount the radiator on the support before installing it as well.

      You do bring up a good point. Even the shroud could be installed. Thanks

    That is a really nice kit and looks easy to install as well. I might even be able to install it. Great info on the radiator install as well.

    Love the videos, and that real 1 of 8 convertibles your talking about I was fortune to see it in person, was a barn find and was for sale at a swap meet in Canfield Ohio about 2010 ish for 28k man what a steal that would of been

    • @keithholt4319
      @keithholt4319 Před 2 měsíci +1

      If one of the 8! Truly a better deal than the 427 cobra I nearly bought in 84 for 27k! Jon does an amazing job of teaching and accomplishing! Part-time in his garage! Super Impressive!

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

    Really coming together Jon. Outstanding work as usual and all the little tips that make the job easier are most appriciated. BTW is that a quadrajet carburetor??

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes it is a 1969 Firebird 400 quadrajet actually. Not a ram air carb but looks the same. I really like qudrajets on Pontiacs they have done the best for me over the years.

    I’m surprised the cooler runs on top of the rad! Seems like a great place to burn yourself. I’m not smart enough to look before I put my hand down. Lol

      I remember the first time I saw one and had no clue want it was, I really can’t see it getting that much air flow to make a difference but it was how it was
