Thank you for the review! I don’t like people comparing these two recent Godzilla films. These are two movies from different sides of the WORLD. Of course they’re going to be DIFFERENT. That’s the beauty of it. To see different takes from such different people.
Kong's silent performance carried the film. I hope he's nominated for best actor.
Okay, can I just start with saying how adorable it is to see Godzilla sleeping in the Coliseum?
I saw the film today and it was just a lot of fun. Not as good as Godzilla Vs. Kong, but the story of Kong learning more about Hollow Earth was a good one. We got to see new titans like Scylla and Tiamat (both mentioned in previous films) and a surprise Toho guest star. I know that director Adam Wingard wanted to do a pure Hollow Earth film without any human characters, but I think he balanced that dream with making a more audience friendly film. Look, I've been alive for over five decades and any time I can watch a Godzilla/kaiju monster movie that makes me feel like an eleven-year-old boy again, then that film has done its job.
It's interesting that Godzilla Minus One comes out and shows exactly how special effects and story are done with style, and so Hollywood spends 10 times as much and does the opposite.
Friend people need to stop comparing this to Godzilla minus one (great film ) that’s Toho film this is legendary movie 2 completely different studios

Minus One is in another universe, produced by Toho. GXK is part of the Monsterverse, different takes, different stories

Godzilla minus 1 was to Godzilla, like train to busan was to zombie movies ,having said that godzilla is like transformers, or pirates of the carribean, or pacific rim ,you can't go into it expecting depth and meaning its just action ,action ,action that's really cool too
This is such a bad take. You can still be all those things you said and still be well written or well executed. This movie did not understand Godzilla at all because if it did then there'd be some semblance of a thematic element or it would exhibit how powerful this creature is and there is none of that. He fights a monster, turns pink, and then teams up with Kong. This movie had no purpose and no soul. You can still be silly or fun and have a purpose or a soul.

Ghidorah single handedly saved King of the monsters for me. Don't think they can top him him as the GOAT antagonist in the Monsterverse
They should do Biollante and Destroyah against Rodan, Mothra, Godzilla, and kong and end the story.
Ghidorah sucks. He's overrated and boring
KOTM make me sleep until the final battle with ghidorah,i'll take anything as long as it's not a disaster like KOTM
This was pretty much what I wanted and expected, 60s Toho Godzilla and Kong with modern effects that has fun with its monsters. The Cairo scene even made me think of They Live. Only complaint would be the songs blasted during certain scenes felt overboard; I was fine with Golden Earring but Kiss took me out of it.
Otherwise, this was an entertaining, colorful romp.

I've been rewatching all of the Monsterverse movies to get ready for this and I can't wait! While I really enjoyed the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series, it made Hollow-Earth waaaaaaayyyyy confusing by changing it into another dimension after Godzilla vs Kong clearly showed it to be physically inside the Earth, so I'm hoping for a little clarification on that point.

Edit: just got out and I LOVED it. Dan Stevens brought some much needed life and laughter to the human characters. And the fights!!! I was in a packed house and we were cheering and laughing the whole time!!! Great fun.

I hope people don't start acting like GM1 is the only correct way to make a Godzilla movie. I fear it's going to end up becoming divisive and seen as a fanbase splitter in the future.
But it is. Toho knows how to make fantastic Godzilla movies.Yeah, there were some lighthearted movies that went against what the character was supposed to be. The director of the original movie did not like what they have done. Godzilla was supposed to be taken seriously, not into a joke. In Godzilla Minus one they focus on Godzilla and the effects it had on the world. I think the movie won an award because the characters were so well written. To me, minus one felt like the original 54 movie. The same tone. Here's this monster that is destroying everything in it's path and people have to find a early to stop it. They basically brought Godzilla back to it's roots and I think most people wanted to see that again.
I'm seeing Late Night with the Devil on Friday in an advanced screening as well. Really excited for it!

9:23 You wont know what the hell a "Hollow Earth" is if you don't watch the previous film. It's a pretty convoluted concept that requires more explanation than this film provides. Otherwise you'll be scratching your head, wondering what the hell happened to Skull Island.
Hollow earth is a theory outside of these movies though, I think they explain it pretty fast at the start too
Everything you described sounds promising to me :D I really enjoyed GvKs silliness and Im glad they ramp it up even more
"Godzilla Minus One" raised the bar so much. I knew this film probably couldn't deliver. Also, I thought the previous film was just ok. So I was planning to skip this unless the reviews were really positive. Thank you for this video!

Ive followed Godzilla and Kong movies since I was a little kid(and thats a long time without giving away my age lol).I love them both but I would say that Godzilla is a fractionally more the favourite .

i went into this expecting to not like it and have it basicly put me off the Legendary godzilla.....
Damn was this fun tho, i think adam wingard did a really good job.
I did feel it zipped through really quick, like the 2hrs felt like 1hr 30mins and i felt i wanted slightly longer fight scenes.
If you can treat this like a marvel movie and just turn your brain off you should have a good time :)

Dude, those actresses willingly accepted their roles after reading the scripts. It's not the filmmakers & producers' fault. They didn't point a gun at them and forced them to star in the Monsterverse.
They need to add in Biollante and Destroyah to end this story.

A 2 for originality when the movie is featuring several completely brand new creatures and is delving more into the hollow earth which is also new and has barely been covered, is pretty crazy. Kinda wish I didn't watch this review especially when it's clear she doesn't like half the main cast of the titular GxK kinda puts a sour mood over the whole thing.
This is why I hate supposed critics reviewing popcorn movies. She already came in with thing to hate. The audience obviously disagreed. This is why we can't have fun things. Definitely not watching her channel anymore.

Let’s be real most of us found Godzilla because of all the silly Godzilla movies and the more battle centric ones. That’s when we fell in love with it. As amazing as minus one or the original are.
Wait, I lied. Shin Godzilla made me tear up. The atomic breath scene in that gave me goosebumps. The way it was executed with opera music as the background music….

I love monster verse movies. I watched all of them before headed to cinema and i was super dissapointed. Visuals were amazing and all locations were beutiful, but those fight scenes? Just meh. It’s super quick and in half of fights you dont even see monsterama killing each other in the end. Finale was pretty dumb actually with Kong and Godzilla enter hollow earth just to immediately leave? And that charge of two apes on a back of giant lizards? They dont even touch each other. Just flew away. This movie was meant to be dumb ofc but i just wanted to see big creatures fight. Still this movie disappointed me.

I honestly haven't liked anything Adam Wingard has done. Including the guest. And certainly not you're next. Both movies everyone else seems to love. Honestly i was on the fence but him being the director was an indicator that it most likely won't be for me..
That's me with Terrifier lol many love those films and I absolutely despise them. If that director is involved I already know I'm not gonna have a good time 😂

Yeah, Kong is really overtaking this Godzilla series. He's just not as interesting as Godzilla.
This movie was terrible. Felt MCU vibes, not an MCU fan. Story terrible, did not like the comedic tone, it was out of place. The music used, also out of place. Godzilla will always be badass. I'm not confident that he will be represented well in western hands much longer.
That said, I fell asleep three times during the movie and woke up just before the credits.
And Godzilla running in the trailer? WTF!?

Contemporary Hollywood is a waste. They couldn't fart out an original idea. They're more interested in things that are "iconic" rather than things that are new.
Wdym by contemporary Hollywood? Because there are many 5 star, fantastic independent films that have come out this decade

The most succesful independent original film will never make as much money as the biggest franchise blockbuster bomb.

I started watching Monarch:Legacy of the Monsters and wasn’t mad about it. Then, I saw Godzilla Minus One and almost teared up. That’s a first for a Godzilla film! I felt no need whatsoever to finish Monarch:Legacy of the Monsters because of how much better Godzilla Minus One was. That said, I likely won’t see this new Hollywood Godzilla movie. I know I’m being ridiculous and narrow-minded but Hollywood is really making everything look and feel like a game. It’s total crapola.
Godzilla & Kong, the buddy monster movie. He's a giant monkey with short temper and race issues. And he's a giant lizard with bad breath and no patience for monkey business... They will have to figth together against the expectations of a better movie which came only months before at a fraction of the budget and already won an Oscar!
Yeah, I think is a pass, Emma... There's no sign of releasing Godzilla Minus One in my country, so I'm not watching any other related movies in the meantime. Also, it looks awful: Pink Godzilla, kaiju for modern audiences!!! Thanx!!!

I haven't been impressed with ANY of the trailers of this movie........even less impressed with baby kong........all seems a bit cartoonish to me, and the apparent "SHOWA" foolishness did have it's time in the 60's and 70's.........but, after seeing "MINUS ONE" a dozen times in the theater, maybe legendary could step up the game a little and in the future, find a happy medium somewhere in between fun and serious. And to top it off, after all the hoopla about SHIMU being the ultimate badass........Emma and NO ONE haven't even mentioned him ONCE......OR AT ALL.....HE FROZE KING GHIDORAH FOR GODZILLAS SAKE! THAT, apparently, is how MEMORABLE the ultimate badass is.

With so many kaijus the Godzilla catalog has its a shame they stick to apes so much. I wanted them to drop Kong for this one, then teaser came with an ape villain and I was like, great now we have 2 of them as focus.
Also didn't like at all the "avengers" feeling the trailer had. You didn't mention it so maybe it's not that bad in the movie haha.
