To be fair this movie had the Least amount of human time in any Godzilla movie evrr
Even if that’s true (have to do some research on that), they are still some of the worst part of these movies, and I’d say they’re at their most annoying in this. I dreaded it when the movie went back to the people.
Least screen time yet make up for it by being the worst in quality and writing unfortunately lol.. Huge sections of the movie where their only lines are pure exposition and half-baked jokes

How can you say they didn’t learn their lesson about the human characters? There’s like 60 minutes of monsters in this film, more than any MonsterVerse film. Theres 10 whole minutes of nothing but monsters doing their thing. It’s a huge step up in how they represent the titans as characters. I had a blast with it.

You can still have something be focused on the monster fights and still have a good and interesting story that complements the fight scenes; and that doesn’t just mean good visual storytelling with Kaiju for 60 minutes.
What should REALLY happen is when Godzilla goes to power up, the movie should just have cut to the human characters explaining exposition for 1 hour. Then 15min of Godzilla waking up +ending. /sarcasm
They way the characters are written usually feels like a self-important insert. It's the context that the human characters on screen are so special and it's so important that THEY succeed or survive 🎉 meanwhile mass murder is happening in the background.

Not exactly jumping the shark. During that time period in the 60s, comic book superheroes were really popular, so Godzilla was essentially changed from a short-lived anti-hero to a superhero for kids to be able to enjoy (this is especially evident in "All Monsters Attack" / "Godzilla's Revenge"). He was basically kaiju Superman and other heroes with how he is sometimes able to pull out new abilities that are convenient (or at least cool-looking, if sometimes silly) for defeating the opponent and saving the day (then subsequently rarely, if ever using those same abilities again, even if it would've been helpful, lol).

Ishiro Serizawa was the only human that should've stay as a main human character and they killed him.
I recently learned about a device called the Demon Core which has a wild story. They could have used that instead of a bomb and it would have worked just as well but wouldn’t have destroyed everything and the Dr could have left before it closed.
And then in GvK they introduced his son and killed him off immediately.

This movie basically took the showa era and pretty much slammed it into the modern age lol. Its ridiculous and over the top but the monster action is so freaking amazing that its hard not to get wrapped up in the insanity. You can tell the creators just had fun with the film and thats what matters most to me
I definitely disagree with Joe where he says they haven’t learned their lesson and aren’t focusing on the monsters.
This whole movie revolves around Kong and the ape tribe, and there are plenty of scenes with them being the focus.
We got more narrative scenes with the monsters on screen than we’ve ever had before in the franchise. At least to me.

I just saw it last night, & it was amazing! It's honestly my favorite Monsterverse film so far. They focused on the monsters way more & had more monsters in it than the other movies. I don't understand why folks are still disliking or hating it, it's like there's never a win-win situation with everyone.🤔

personally I think people should celebrate improvements, is it a great movie? no, is it fun? probably, obviously would love it if it had better writing but the movie as a whole is probably better than you expected it to be and that's a good thing

Joe defending Man of Steel's slaughter is so funny because he is basically comparing Superman's intelligence to that of a bunch of giant territorial animals who couldn't care less about humans.

I look at Superman in Man of Steel as an emotional guy who got into his first real fight with someone as powerful as him. The way he reacted to Zod threatening his mom showed that but it would have made more sense if he didn’t look like a grown man. Still, I definitely the criticism, he could have avoided all of the collateral damage. I can’t wait to see how James Gunn does it in his movie.
The movie could be a 1/10 and I’d still watch it. I want to watch King Kong and Godzilla punch stuff, couldn’t care less about the plot.

I know the first Japanese Godzilla is symbolizing this force of nature that comes out of the Sea and destroys Japan, symbolizing World War 2 and the U.S. winning the Naval war and unleashing a bombing campaign on Japan, but it was still not like a well written story or anything

I will say one thing. So the psychic girl is a reference back to an old Godzilla movie where there was a whole tribe that was psychic and can communicate telepathically. So if you're a big fan that is kind of cool they're trying to bring that back I just don't think they executed right

@@Surithephage so it was in the movie Mothra 1961. She has twin girls called mothra's fairies. They basically spoke for her I believe. So not technically a Godzilla film.
After seeing the movie I'd say it was done decently well. It definitely is ridiculous if you don't know the lore but the I was with audience didn't seem to mind and was having a blast regardless lol
This film knows exactly what its trying to do and when it does it, it’s done extremely well.
There are of course some critiques I have with this film, but overall…wow…what a fun film.
My theater had audiences laughing and clapping. I could feel all the smiles throughout the theater. It’s definitely a good time.
No movies is perfect, and you can only do so much in hour and 45 - 50 minutes
I agree with Joe that it's braindead but as a Godzilla fan that was the best dumb fun I've ever had. I hope for more ridiculousness after seeing mini-kong turned into a nunchuck and the anti-gravity fight. My only complaint is that some of the framings during the fight scenes are pretty messy that it gives me Michael Bay Transformers vibes. lol All in all I'd gladly waste my money for more of this bullshit 😂 Just these kaijus being absolute units.
Actually a fun flick for just ridiculous Sci fi action. Thank goodness they keep leaning these out. The next one should be 105 minutes.

It was ridiculously fun, I was grinning ear to ear the whole time. I think the only thing I’d change is instead of like Joe said just show us scar King’s rise to power. And while we’re at it just have him on screen a bit more cause it was genuinely sick seeing him fight and move around on screen.

Ceartin parts of the story so need explaining otherwise you would complain about not knowing what is going on.

I really hope we get a Godzilla centered film where Kong assists based on their new 'partners' dynamic. I will still hold out hope for Destroyah in this series
If they ever kill off Godzilla, which I doubt, it would likely be Destroyah who does it. Instead, Destroyah might bring Godzilla close to death but Kong will save him like in GvK.
Which is funny because they LITERALLY reference Destroyah's creation in King of the Monsters with the Oxygen Bomb. They have it set up right there.
personally i'm looking forward to an outright alien invasion plot or bringing back mechagodzilla but this time on the good side and piloted internally like a gundam
@@Bobby__B They didn't. The weapon "Oxygen Destroyer" was from the original 54 movie. The oxygen destroyer in the original movie completely disintegrated Godzilla. The new oxygen destroyer just weakened godzilla. Didn't kill him. There were no particles to seep into the ground from using the oxygen destroyer.
Honestly, I *don't* want Destoroyah in the Monsterverse largely because it would lack any of the meaningful impact and symbolism like the Heisei one had by bringing things full circle with a Godzilla death.
I'd rather they use something like the still-unused Bagan ("Super Godzilla" version) or something as a really big threat.

Guys PLEASE watch this film, it's GREAT! These guys are becoming overly analytical. The humans are crappy yes but the monsters are soooooo much screen time. Was great great fights, great Kong story, great Godzilla usage (it is prefectly okay for Zilla to be overoowered and strong, plenty of good stories with overpowered hero's, one Punch man, superman some storylines etc)

Exactly. I think a lot of people have been spoiled by the more serious toned Godzilla minus 1. From other reviews I heard it’s a lot more fights in this one than the others. He gave Kong Skull island an 8.5 but that was mostly around Human characters.

I just came back from watching and if you liked Godzilla vs Kong then you will like this. It was a fun movie flick me and my kids enjoyed.
Let's face it joe is never satisfied even though he claims he's a fan. If your a fan then you should just appreciate how it is made and if you love the monster battles YOU GET THE BATTLES like what more can you get from it like be glad they improved it. Every godzilla film has many humans and I swear they are way to much into fixed human dialogue. Overall this movie was better than godzilla vs kong and kotm for sure

Joe must of slept through this movie, they focused on the monsters way more than the humans, not sure why Joe wants just a monsters on the screen and no human interaction at all
I think it’s because except the parts where they help Kong with injuries they detract and don’t add much good
Most of it is just too silly I don’t buy into the light hearted goofy act they are being forced into by the script and I believe that’s what they are calling out
There could have been more thought put into it for the human focus in these films

Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Skull Island director) is working on a Gundam movie for Netflix and the long-gestating Metal Gear Solid movie for Sony, both in development hell. I agree that he should be brought back to the Monsterverse in some capacity, he seemed to have the best eye for capturing the scale of the monsters while keeping it fast and engaging.
The monster sizes to me were everywhere, the majority of the time Godzilla looked so small.
Alex is like an 80 year old stuck in a 40 year old body, bro is never happy

This is the only movie where godzilla isn't a loser.
In 2014 he gets his ass whooped by the two mutos and Aaron taylor Johnson distracts the mutos by blowing up their nest. In King of the Monsters he gets two assists. Ken Watanabe revives him by setting of that nuke and later Mothra powers him up so he can beat Ghidorah. And in Godzilla vs Kong he needed to work together with Kong to win the day.
Those Muto's must be like roaches of the monsterverse to Godzilla, in the 2014 movie, perhaps Godzilla KNOWS he is THE remaining titan on earth that can handle Mutos, *every last one of them* with Godzilla's "battle senses" . Godzilla maybe didn't want newly hatched Muto's running around stealing all our dangerous radioactive material supplies so he let Aaron Taylor step in and blow the nest to hell. I guess we can call it his "more rational mind" working there. I feel that his strategy against the MUTO's just seem so uncomplicated, we know he wins but it's NOT pretty (Aaron Taylor dead). No titan allies coming to back up the King of all monsters but meh, it is what it is. No real tools for Godzilla to rely on to take on the Muto's with. So it's all up to his fists. (Claws, fangs and atomic breath).
In King of the Monsters, I still agree with those points but I would like to point out that Godzilla made a direct journey straight to the freaking arctic as Ghidorah was being broken out of his iceberg just to run the fade when.. *Ghidorah just flew the fk away.* Like *bruh* Look at those wings. Those wings are purely for cosmetics. *No shot those things flying with that body* !!!

Godzilla Vs Kong: Mecha Godzilla was just seriously frickin over powered. I'm not complaining I'm thinkin about how Mecha Godzilla made the King of all monsters look like a dumpy chump, like.. danm I just wanted to see Godzilla fighting Kong. I wanted to have more kaijus, old and new, and that's what I got.

In 2014, there were 2 mutos attacking at once, Kong was getting thrown around by 1 giant skull Crawler. Kong did get help also in these movies. In skull Island, while he was wrapped in the chains that are attached to the boats. The humans were shooting at the Giant SkullCrawler to distract it so Kong can get free. I'm GvK, Godzilla was dragging Kong down into the depths and to save kong, they use Depth Bombs. Then, they had to save Kong again when he was being smothered by the warbat's wing. Now, in this movie, the humans give Kong the beast glove because of the frost bite. So he can fight. That is 4 times Kong needed help from the humans

To be fair, Godzilla had Ghidora’s number when he pulled him in the ocean.
If the humans didn’t attack Godzilla in that scene I believe he would have killed Ghidora right then and there.
I'm all for having two different Godzilla universes because it's clear that the Legendary Universe is for kids and gives homage to the later Showa era of the late 60s and 70s. Godzilla Minus One is for the OG Godzilla fans who loved the original 1954. I'm just happy that kids are able to experience Godzilla on the big screen.

@@ScottPress I agree it's not trying to go for any oscars. It knows what it is. That's a good thing. People enjoy it myself included. But even I admit that I had to turn off my brain for this one and forgive it's shortcoming which there were a lot like the plot holes, overkill exposition and the final fight concluded too quick after all that build up etc. We can see how it could've been better in a lot of areas but we just chose to let it go cause it is what it is. It's a very good bad movie like most Gman films. And that's OKAY. It's fun. It's bad. Cringy at times but we still love it.

2 things that didn't make sense to me...1) Godzilla sleeping in Rome with people around him going about their normal lives...instead of Godzilla given an uninhabited Island to lay on. 2) Sending a motley crew of misfits into a world full of millions of giant predators without any military support...and only 1 gun.

I have to ask how many Godzilla movies have y'all actually watched? The majority of the original Japanese movies were heavily human-focused right from the start. Gojira was originally the embodiment of man-made disasters and was an antagonist to the human characters. He would eventually evolve into a protagonist role in the 'Godzilla/Gojira vs [Y]' type movies in the 60s onwards. Those movies had more monster screentime, but the primary POV was still mostly the human characters. Then there was a revival and return to his antagonist role in "Return of Godzilla" in 1984. He wouldn't be a protagonist again until the mid-90s. Then came "Shin Godzilla", that made him an antagonist again.
I think this is a case of misremembering/false memories. Or maybe y'all are confusing the movies with that animated Godzilla show from late 70s early 80s.

Honestly Monarch legacy of monsters did a great job making you like the human part! Wyatt and Kurt Russell where great! I loved seeing them track Godzilla! It wasn't over the top action, however the end of the show kinda dipped.
Yeah the Russels were great, but the rest of the cast (specifically the modern day cast) were actually annoying and terrible.
The writing in that show was terrible

Unfortunately, Gamera is from a different studio and it's doubtful that Toho would want to allow collaboration with them. Otherwise, we probably would have had a canonical Godzilla/Gamera crossover film back in the 80s/90s Heisei era.

I would still want more MonsterVerse movies. It’s safe to say it’s showing a little more consistency than the now defunct DCEU and MCU Phase 4 and 5. You can see some comments saying how much they love MonsterVerse and it’s their current favorite universe.
I’m not saying I love Monarch: Legacy of Monsters or GxK, but I would like the lore to be expanded with more titans even if the human characters suck ass like they usually are in most Godzilla/kaiju movies. I didn’t love Monarch but I wouldn’t mind a second season of it.
Is Godzilla x Kong (or should I say Kong x Godzilla?) my favorite movie of this year? Um, no. Then again, I haven’t seen a lot of movies this year. I doubt it will be my favorite but I did have fun. I think the leaks and the theories ruined any possible surprises I wanted from it.
Shimo was already spoiled by the Playmates toys back in December. There was already a plot leak of Kong punching Godzilla with the BEAST glove. The trailers showed pretty much all of the best scenes from the movie. Warner Bros. is notorious for this as the final trailer for Batman v Superman spoiled the final act with Doomsday.
That’s my problem with it. People were leaking the plot as I’m aware this was shown over a month ago with early screening and everything happened according to those spoilers. There really were no surprises and it’s not like we were expecting Godzilla and Kong to lose in Rio.
Godzilla x Kong is basically WWE meets buddy cop movie but with kaijus. That’s the gist of this movie. Lots of bullshit talking from human characters we don’t care about over stories we don’t care about. Typical protocol from Godzilla movies. Then the big fight scenes at the end which it did deliver.
The moment we saw Kong use Suko as a weapon, that’s when we know this was not going to be Citizen Kane. Godzilla can now run and jump really high in this movie like he’s Air Jordan. High IQ is not required to watch and enjoy fast food entertainment like this.
