Michael Bay's Transformers movies might've become indistinguishable noise over the years, but if there is one worth talking about, it's 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen starring Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox -- a rare case of a movie that wasn't ever written. A writer's strike began right before production and forced Bay to go make this film with nothing but a tiny document of major plot points given by the screenwriters. The movie did make bank at the box office but the quality wasn't anything to write home about. So, in today's anatomy of a failure let's look at Revenge of the Fallen and see what happens when you make a movie without a script or a writer. Hopefully the studios are listening.

I, like Beavis and Butthead, do like buxom, 100% naked women’s private parts, but even I, they and most of us in the world don’t like how Michael Bay represents them because it’s shameless objectification towards women that so-called SJWs would call us sexist for hating (in fact, even with its over-the-top misogyny that Michael Bay himself thinks is a great representation of his male teenage demographic, the toxic side of the fandom who thinks they are justso egalitarian would still act like we are white-privilege, anti-feminist misogynists if we hate Bayformers in general except for maybe Age of Extinction because the Bayformers fandom sure likes to complain about it and The Last Knight even though the latter is the return to anti-form).

And yet this isnt even the worst Transformers movie ...
Eh, ROTF is the worst in terms of humor and story. TLK is the worst mainly because the story feels so scatterbrained and unfocused, and there were so many story ideas that had potential, but they didn’t take the time to explore or develop them.
As for Age of Extinction... I actually think that movie isn’t as bad as other people say. Sure, it’s got problems, but it’s nowhere near as bad as ROTF or TLK.
I’d love to see Filmento cover Transformers: The Last Knight. I know Revenge of the Fallen is bad but the Last Knight is even worse.
TLK Megatron is kinda cool though
@Caritz Stahl Uh yes it is.
I don't understand who actually goes to see them. I wouldn't be able to sit through 2 hours of that.

Regarding your megatron point, actually we already know going into the second movie that Megatron is still pretty much in one piece. That was shown as clear as day in the end of the first movie how they dumped his body into the ocean, and they just reused that scene in the second movie. And, there ain’t nothing in the ocean that can consume a whole giant friggin space metal robot.
Except for the dangers of the deep ocean itself lmfao
The point he is making is that you can’t make a movie that 100% relies on the audience remembering important plot points from the previous film. It would have been better to subtly remind the audience throughout the opening sequence, but an exposition dump is still better than nothing at all.
Chloride attack would have pitted the metal and lead to stress corrosion cracking.
@@04Saleen256 wait if what you said is true then nothing in Avengers Endgame make sense then? Coz they never mentioned how Avengers met each other, they ALL just suddenly there, no story how they got together or met.
@@orbeat6557 you can’t really compare anything with the MCU, especially the later phases, to traditional film making. Marvel Studios has broken the mold of what a franchise can be on film. All 22 films are, for the most part, a long interconnected narrative, that plays more like a serialized television show than a movie franchise.

Age of Extinction was waaaay better than Revenge of the Fallen in my opinion. They actually try to give the characters arcs (not every single one, it's Transformers people, not Shakespeare) and establish the main goal of everyone at a decent rate. My main issue would the pacing: At almost *3 hours*, you are absolutely exhausted by the time you finish it and it didn't need to be that long. My advice for anyone would be stop half into it and then finish it the other day, makes for a much better experience.

This movies established that the Human military can now one shot any decepticon with that railgun, yet they didn't do shit with it aside from one scene.
Humans:
>Outnumber the transformers millions to one.
>Have the technology to kill transformers with ease.
>Have enough of an arsenal of explosives to annihilate every bit of infrastructure transformers could possibly leave behind.
>Have a track record of surviving in near impossible circumstances and taking down biological titans with nothing but sharp sticks, teamwork and an unrelenting will to overcome any challenge. So even blasting them back to the stone age won't stop them from ambushing you, salvaging your technology and studying it, and using kamikaze runs to destroy you if necessary.
Transformers:
>Have no biological weapons of true weapons of mass destructions.
>Only have access to very limited yet overblown bouts of contained violence.
>Cannot even come close to hoping to kill humans faster than they reproduce.
>Can barely even reproduce themselves, requiring very limited resources that are hard to scavenge.
>Have a population in the double digits.
How exactly are the decepticons planning to win the war again? Before the railgun at least they had resilience going for them. We hadn't seen a single human weapon manage to kill them. But now, they simply already lost. That gun is exactly the point at which the series lost all sense of purpose. That's why they can't acknowledge it. If they did, there'd be no stakes.

Taking into account that there were no writers on this film (I didn’t realize this previously) it bumps it up a bit in my book. I’ll give it a C-. It’s impressive that it came out like it did with out a script.. especially since that last one that had writers and was hot garbage..(not bumblebee, the last night)
I like Filmento, but this video is a huge fail. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen DID have a writer. In fact, it had THREE credited writers, and they were paid $8 million for the script. What they turned in was more than just a "tiny document" or a barebones outline. Yes, they delivered a treatment (which was actually 20 pages kind) right before the strike began, but Filmento seems to think that that was all that they did. What happened next was that Michael Bay turned the outline into a 60-page treatment, and then he LOCKED THE THREE WRITERS IN A HOTEL FOR FOUR MONTHS to force them to work and turn in a full script. What Filmento was confused by was that this movie had an unusual production process, and not just because of the strike. Bay began working on action sequences before he had a script, and then he made the writers write a script around the action sequences that were more less set in stone. Thus, it's insulting to writers to say that this movie had no writers or no script. They did the best that they could under the extreme circumstances that they were forced into.
@@ydgmdluTbh, I remember hearing about this from somewhere else
@@ydgmdlu Apparently, Bay wanted the film to be delayed in order for the writers to further refine the script, but the studio had the release date set in stone, and as a result, the script couldn’t change from whatever was jammed out by him and the screenwriters.

He doesn’t write the dialogue (although he had to do something in rotf due to the strike) nor the script. A person people could blame is Ehren Kruger. He co-wrote ROTF, and wrote DOTM and AOE all alone (god knows why). Although I found DOTM pretty good, the juvenile humour in ROTF and most of the script in AOE is terrible and that is mostly due to him. He frickin was part of the writers of the SCREAM movies. the transformers movies which has so much talent otherwise behind the screen, could have done so much better with any other talented writer/writers but they sticked with that guy. I think Bay liked him so he cam be blamed for that as well. But Bay didn’t care about the scripts though. He only cared about the VFX, the action and that everything looked cool.
Never understood why MB is blamed for things when he has his own style of making films. The writers he gets or provided are the ones to blame.
@@believer4002 Right on. He's the director & sometimes directors don't care about scripts. All they care about is how the movie is made, looks, & how the actors do their lines. That's it.
A. Thompson yes, and even the biggest Bay supporters have to agree that he is not a talented storyteller and good at character or plot development. But like some of his movies besides transformers, especially The Rock, 13 Hours and Pain and Gain shows that Bay with a good writer can create a very good movie. Ehren Kruger is not a talented screenwriter imo. But if you look at all Bays movies it is a reason you often find the juvenile sex humour, crazy out of place stuff, weird dialogue and fast-paced action. It’s because that is exactly what Bay wants and he is very stubborn and demanding. But like I previously said, when he let’s up a little of his usually gonzo weirdness, and wants to make a normal plot driven movie, he proves that he can do it with style.
@@believer4002 Exactly. 13 Hours is a movie that needs to be talked about more

Sam and his gang go on a journey to stop them.....
The problem i felt was Fallen came out of nowhere and the college sequence with the parents felt out of place.....

@Poppy Kneegrow Pacific Rim was a better mech movie in my opinion. At the least the confusing plot of that movie could be explained away by Guillermo Del Toro’s fascination with Neon Genesis Evangelion and the movie essentially being a failed attempt at making a more mainstream End of Evangelion.

Bro the parents have always been unbearable
They're like my parents. Well, mostly my mom. She liked this movie (garbage).
If I had parents like those two parents in the Transformers franchise I would not need the "But I need to be in as many explosions as possible!" excuse. I would just be looking for my death that keeps eluding me just to torture me.
And the Decepticons just dragged then to Egypt too but then didn't even use them as hostages as I remember it?
My parents may have had unbearable moments, but this movie takes the cake in unbearable.
In my opinion, the amazing visuals, badass fight scenes, the fantastic sound design, and bumblebee himself just outweighs the bad parts of the movie. In fact all of the transformers movies.
This was a really well made and entertaining video, some of the jokes literally made me laugh out loud!

The worst TF movie is The Last Knight
They promoted that Optimus Prime is evil in this movie but they only show it a couple of minutes
I agree.
No, Revenge Of The Fallen is DULLLLLL
i think age of extinction was worse tbh
In my very humble, yet very unpopular opinion, Dark of the Moon was the worst. I don’t know why, but I just couldn’t get into it. Granted there are some things I liked like the action, visuals, and score to name a few. But I just hated the characters and story. Don’t get me wrong, I really wanted to like that movie, but I just couldn’t like it. I know the others are bad and worse, but something about them just makes me feel invested in those. Yes, even The Last Knight, the most despised film in the Transformers movies, made me feel invested in these movies and tv shows.
@@largeformatmaster2994 Bruh COME ON
I think for the getting to Optimus part, they wouldn’t know if starscream was gonna track them, and ultimately wanted to play it safe by letting bumblebee go on his own. It also sets up the point of saving sams parents becuase he can’t risk them getting recaptured
I hate myself for thinking this was a masterpiece back in 4th grade when I watched this in theater.
I still like this movie tbh
It’s a masterpiece
That moment when Optimus and The Fallen fell from the pyramid right on top of Karnak Temple's columns, even though the two sites are separated by an hour and a half flight in real life.
At least in that instance they didn't reference the locations by name. In the same movie they drive from Jordan to Egypt in 10 minutes, after explicitly announcing they are going to drive from Jordan to Egypt.

I saw this movie only months after having been to the middle east and visited Petra, the pyramids and the temple they destroyed in the movie. Not only are they not only a few hours drive from each other, the pyramids are surrounded by Cairo, a massive city, not in the middle of nowhere.
Isn't that the part where they have the tombs of Petra and the Great Pyramid like they're next door to each other?

That and they could have made Sam learn to respect women (re: Mikaela Banes and Carly Spencer) so that they wouldn’t yell at him for standing them up. Even this video showed a clip of it when Mikaela furiously caught Sam Witwicky cheating in his teenage college roommate dorm!
True dat.
They could've done so much better with everything.
Ah yes... I forgot that ridiculous idea that Sam couldn't tell Mikaela that he loved her. As if a guy like this would hesitate 1 second in real life.
The twins had a reason to fight, Mudflap questions why their even listen to Sam as Skids kinda defends him with this quote “He killed Megatron.” leading them into a scuffle.
I love this movie... But because of the action and soundtrack. Most of the dialoges either made me let out a small gasp of air or cringe and it is sad because this movie had some interesting ideas to put to use. Ideas that will never get a proper execution now
What about Last Knight?
Awful ending of this franchise.
Im my mind everything after the third movie doesnt exist. But I also made thr mistake and bonded with some autobot characters (besides optimus and bumblebee) and well...we all know how that turned out :c
Still crying to this day
@@MusiXificati0n Same. After the third one it just went downhill with the removal of Sam and so many iconic transformers. They also pretty much reached the high point in action with the full city battle in Dark of the Moon.
It wasn't meant to be the ending. But we the people had enough of the awful movies and bombed Bumblebee. Making plans for Transformers 6 disappear.
There is meant to be a sequel to Last Knight but the disapointing returns on that movie have put things on hold for now!!
watching the last Knight is like solving a puzzle without any pieces
For all these sins I still didn't actually dislike this movie... *There I said it*
Age of Extinction and The Last Knight however...
I didn't either. There are some moments I wished the sequels would expand on, like Sam's growth and that freaking Decepticon satellite. Transformers Dark Moon was when I start to lose my interest (why not kill Mikaela instead of separated; you think the Decepticons would use her as hostage or something), and the 2 movies after, which you mentioned, just disappointed me.
Honestly, Age of Extinction has its problems, but in my opinion, ROTF and TLK are worse. ROTF for its humor, and TLK because of its wasted potential.
Same, but i can admit that AOE final battle was interesting but thats it. The first 3 and bumblebee are good to me
Same, it’s serviceable to me. A literal movie to turn my brain not off but put on auto.
The first one and ROTF were great. Even with the loss of Megan Fox in the third it was still good. But facts without Shia and the fact that it all turned cheesy AF the last two have been wack
Still, Michael Bay is a genius because he knows how cinema works: Cinemas need summer blockbusters and this was pre MCU era. And pre woke era - if you would put in a hot chick into a movie just for being hot, you'd get called out by journalists for it. It's also one of the few movies that you want to see in cinema because everything is huuuuge - your movie needs huge set pieces, so people want to see it in the cinema. Hence the 800 Mio. box office. It also made mountains of cash with Blu-ray releases because this was one of the few movies you show your friends to showoff your new OLED tv ;O)
People that make these movies should have a very simple main plot. I love movies like Dredd, where the plot is basically: get to the top of the building and defeat the bad guy. Then a lot of interesting stuff happens along the way. But the important part is that the main plot is very simple and easy to follow. Braindead pop corn flicks should have a super simple main plot you know from the beginning of the movie, and then the entertaining parts are the obstacles they have to overcome over the course of the movie.
4:20 actually at the end of TF1 you see Optimus Prime pull part of the Allspark out of Megatron's chest which means that he would have given it to them at some point after TF1 and before the events of TF2.
Megatron's remains were established to be at the bottom of the ocean because they dropped his body into the ocean at the end of TF1 and they never said he was in one piece, they actually imply the opposite because before he's revived, Scalpel has one of the constructions killed and salvaged for parts that they use to rebuild Megatron.
Big man

I don't know if it was ever stated where the shard of the all spark was at the end of transformers, but it was said and shown that Megatron was in (mainly) one piece. And than when the decepticons go to revive him, they still had to tear one decepticon apart so Megatron would have enough parts.
I acknowledge the overload of frat boy humor, I acknowledge that the film contradicts itself, almost in back to back scenes (Like when Megatron says "even in death there is no command but mine" then in the next scene he calls the Fallen his master), I concede all this. But I must confess, that ROTF is my favorite of the series for ONE REASON-Optimus Prime was given PROPER presentation. In the first film Prime was nerfed beyond recognition. In THIS one He took on 3 decepticons-including Megatron and almost won. Additionally he displayed fatherly wisdom that allowed him to see beyond the immediate and into the big picture. When asked if one human life mattered more than all of cybertron, Prime said "You'll never stop at one-I'll TAKE YOU ALL ON!" That is Optimus Prime-a cybertronian freedom fighter with the wisdom to understand the character of his enemy enough to know that he cannot be trusted no matter how much sense his offers may make. After the first film where Prime was slapped around and treated like a punching bag all I wanted out of the sequel was for Prime to be awesome-and he WAS. On top of that Jetfire was amazing and this version of Jet Optimus was MUCH cooler than the Armada series from which it came!
Excellent points.. I absolutely agree with everything you said.. and to add to that, I also think it had the best story (and the best story progression by visiting different places which actually gives an "adventure" type aura to the movie, unlike the others in the franchise)
You know, there are millions of idiots on this planet who are always ready to follow a couple of "special" idiots among them.. one or two of them says something like "this movie has no this, or this movie has no that" and sheep crowd starts repeating and believing what they say..

"I told you I was opening a space bridge, it's the fastest way to travel to Egypt!"
"Why are we in Egypt!?"
"Shut up!"
"Fate rarely calls in a time of our choosing" is a very deep quote from optimus and just because of that line I would of never guessed they didn't have writers...
OP himself is just kinda a walking fortune cookie printer, and that is not really something that difficult to write. Not to degrade, but that's what he's been since G1, and I would have it no other way.
Would have* never guessed.
Is it possible the writer's strike was over by the time they got to post-production and were recording the robots' lines?
to this day, it's still my favorite transformers movie. this movie ain't even my child but despite its flaws, I love nd adore tf out of this movie nd I'll watch it all day nd still not get enough
Michael Bay is really something. I don't think you can name too many other people that can make so much money by making a 2 hour long ad.
I'll be honest, I don't think Michael Bay is the worst Director ever. I can think of 5 directors that are way worse. Micheal Bay is capable of making a good movie, the Rock is proof. But I admit he hasn't made anything good in a long time.
i actually really liked the movies hearing that everyone hates it was a suprise XD
I have a love-hate relationship with videos like this. They usually open my eyes to stuff I either never noticed or never cared about before. And that opening is a double-edged sword of Epiphany and Ruining the magic. Like telling a kid Santa is fake, then dressing up as him next Christmas.
After the third one they should’ve stopped at least with Bay directing. Bumblebee was a good start.
In my opinion bay was not a good fit for transformers. I didn't like the first one he made in 2007. There's a lot of unutilized potential in the original source material that bay refused to tap into so that he could pursue the sort of nonsense that characterizes his movies. A director like Travis a Knight would have been a better fit from the start
I didn't watch Bumblebee. Not because it didn't look good, but because I've already been burned by 5 movies. It's like going to a restaurant and being served garbage food 5 consecutive times and on the 6th they say "don't worry it good this time"

The Writer's Strike REALLY messed this one up!
Even Michael Bay says that this is his worst movie ever! Say what you want about Bay, but if he says that some movie is trash, then that shows it's safe to say that the bar for that movie is TRULY subterranean!

Honestly, I’d rather watch Age of Extinction and especially Bumblebee over the rest of the Bayformers hexalogy (and yes people, Michael Bay was STILL involved in the making of Bumblebee as a producer since he lost his position as director because of his two-way sexism; misogyny by portraying women as damsels in distress that try too hard yet fail to be sexy, and misandry by making men like Shane Dyson and especially Sam Witwicky very violent, objectifying towards sentient beings like women and Transformers themselves like Bumblebee, and therefore beyond irresponsible).
Dude same
Sure...but in truth wouldn't you watch almost any other movie over...a single Transformers movie to start with?
