What if Batman v Superman Was About the Death of Robin? | Alternate Cinema

- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was meant to begin the journey to Zack Snyder's vision of Justice League with Darkseid and Knightmare futures and whatever... but all it really did was stumble on the first step. And it got badly beat by Captain America: Civil War. I've already covered the problems of BvS in videos like "Why Civil War Worked and Batman v Superman Failed". But today I want to start a new series where I explore a solution that would fix those problems I've identified. And the fix for Batman v Superman is the death of Robin.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) clash over differing philosophies about what kind of heroism is needed to protect the world, while the public they're defending is becoming increasingly mindful of the damage that superheroes and masked vigilantes cause. However, the duo are soon forced to confront an even greater threat created by nefarious billionaire Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also co-stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred the butler, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Captain America: Civil War (2015)
In this superhero epic, the denizens of the Marvel Universe are forced to pick sides when Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) come to blows over ideological differences. After a mission involving a new Avengers squad led by Cap ends with several civilian casualties in Lagos, the team are asked to sign an agreement that would force them to take orders from a United Nations panel. Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) pressures Cap to accept this new arrangement, in part because he feels deeply guilty about his own past recklessness; Captain America, however, fears that the Avengers will only be corrupted by bureaucracy. I dare you to try and fix eternals
I haven't even started the video but I already love this idea. The movie really could have used some reason for Batman to be insanely irrationally angry.
I don't think his anger was irrational. The movie made us see why Batman thought Superman deserved to be put down. But the death of Robin would have given it a stronger heart than "Martha".
Are you serious? Did we watch the same film? The events of Black Zero parallel what people went through during 9/11. Bruce had become no different to most Americans that had succumbed to fear and hatred towards the Middle Eastern folk. In Bruce's case, however, his hatred was towards Kryptonians.
@@emmanuelsekyere8792 Yeah definitly would have given it more heart. I say it felt irrational because Superman is nice, upholds the law, wants to save people and is apologetic about what happened, so it seems irrational to be so murderous towards him still, but anytime we need superheros to fight each other it's always a bit irrational. There's gotta be some reason they can't just talk it out and remember they are on the same side.
@@emmanuelsekyere8792 if batman felt that raw about superman, joker would have been dead for killing robin.
@@Neethan3247 makes no sense. First of all you assume that batman thinks like the average american which by itself is the dumbest thing, second, superman saved the earth, if superman didnt exist zod would have turned earth into kryton so batman has no reason to think of Kal el as an enemy
I love this concept as it is almost an inverse of the injustice storyline where Superman loses it after Louis dies and he starts killing criminals, leaving Batman the impossible task of trying to stop him.
That’s a good way of putting it
Lois*
And in that verse, Nightwing and Alfred are dead. However, Batman is still strong on his resolve, which actually makes his alliance stronger in unity
now that's a punch line - joker
Evil Batman is insanely underutilized (we don't talk about the Dark Multiverse).
"Batman is Batman and we all want him to win" truer words were never been spoken
Batman's a Mary Sue. He shouldn't win against Aliens
I don’t want him to win buabjajaja
Just watch The Dark Knight Returns - Part 2. We want Batman to win, because that's what's suppose to happen.
Nah. Batman is not as interesting.
Superman is an invincible alien God, He's never lost to Batman during the post crisis comic era
While I think Under the Red Hood explains perfectly why Batman would never kill after the death of Robin, this exploration of the question "But what if he did?" is perfect and what I wish we got
Batman with the no kill rule does nothing of worth.
Joker will still kill bilions every week.
@@johnynoway9127 That's not Batman's fault tho. He brings Joker to the justice system of Gothan all the time but they do NOTHING every SINGLE TIME!
The whole point of Batman is that he's not mentaly sane and he knows it. That's why he stops himself from killing before becoming just another thug that kills people on the streets. He brings criminals to the police, its THEIR work to bring justice to the people of Gotham.
If anything people should be mad at the judges and jurys of Gotham for not giving Joker the death penalty...
@@misttermd6299 but he has the means to do it yet he chooses not to.
That makes him guilty of doing NOTHING aswell.
@@johnynoway9127dude if ur saying batman should kill people. In the comment section for THIS video especially then fuck me man what else goes over ur head?
Batman kills and he becomes what he wishes to stop, he becomes the criminal in the alley that killed his parents, he is not judge jury and executioner, he doesn’t get to decide which criminals die and which ones live.
@johnynoway9127 That's kinda the point. It's not that Batman shouldn't kill, he can't.
To me, the turning point for Batman would be the realization that - in a way he has been subconsciously wrestling with - HE is responsible for Robin's death. He put a kid in a world of monsters and gave him a stick and a cape.
This way, both Superman AND Batman grow from the same realization: They are projecting their own mistakes onto someone else in hopes of punching it into submission, rather than accepting it and growing from it. Superman can't undo his mistake by stopping Batman, because that won't undo the fact that he let the Zod fight degrade to the point that he was cornered into killing. Batman won't be able to process Robin's death until he comes to terms with his feelings that he started Robin on the path that led to his death. Superman's mistake was letting Zod control the circumstances (and location) of the fight, and Batman's mirroring mistake was that he thought he was in complete control of things. They both realize they are fighting themselves, and using each other to do it.
I don't think Batman needs to realize he started Robin down the process. Rather, he needs to learn that he can't control everything. That Robin made his own choices, and Batman did all he could, and sometimes, despite all that Batman is, bad stuff will happen. You know, that thing that Superman learns from his father's death when it is done right (and not poorly and stupidly, like in Snyder's movie). That despite all his power, he can't save everyone. That's the lesson Batman needs to learn. That despite all his gadgets and intellect, he can't save everyone, he can't control everyone.
Well done
While both of those could work, the set up portrayed by the video doesn’t allow that, who killed Robin is a mystery to Batman and that why he on a warpath, if he knew who it was he have no distraction and would do what these two potential writers have suggested, but that isn’t what happing. Batman is on a mission to find who killed Robin and he’s blinded by a need for vengeance and he’s being driven internally by rage. It’s in the metaphor he uses, ‘an unstoppable force meets an immovable object’ he didn’t say an ‘unstoppable force meets an unstoppable force’ or ‘an immovable object meets an immovable object’.
@@Axterix13 Right, that'd be his next step. But first, I just mean him realizing that the reason he's going all-out on the punching is because he hasn't admitted that he *feels* responsible for Robin. It doesn't mean he is, rather it means part of him *believes* he is, and that's the part of him he's actually fighting with - with Superman as a proxy. And part of the reason he feels that way is because He Is Batman - he's the guy who's in control, always prepared, never surprised, etc. - and he's got to let go of that somewhat megalomaniacal viewpoint.
(But also, yeah, he very much does bear some responsibility. He was the adult, guiding a child through formative years, and he helped make "running into danger and punching monsters" a core part of his personality. Even after Robin was grown up, there's no denying that years of conditioning would deeply color his decision-making process. The idea that "Batman makes his own villains" is somewhat overblown... but Batman definitely made Robin.)
@@gameover9390 Not entirely sure what you're disagreeing with here. In this case, Batman would realize that "who killed Robin" isn't The Most Important Thing he's wrestling with. He's wrestling with the anger at himself for the role he (perhaps subconsciously) he played in starting the path that led to his death. You can find and neutralize an external threat easily enough - that's what "projection" is - and it's even easier when the person you're projecting your anger onto is *also* the target of other, righteous anger.
But killing every murderer he finds wouldn't undo the role Batman may feel he played in Robin's trajectory. He's on a mission to find "who killed Robin," but he'll never be able to clear that list until he realizes part of him believes HIS name is also on it...
I never get tired of BvS breakdowns because we genuinely could've had it all ;_; The setup of a jaded, older Batman whose Robin died works so well and they don't even take advantage of it in the plot, except in the most shallow & unconvincing of ways... it seems such an obvious way to go in hindsight lol. It isn't the /worst/ movie but the wasted potential makes me the angriest. Society if BvS was good lol
As much as I liked BvS back in 2016, its undeniable its a movie with a lot of wasted potential and good ideas but poorly explored/executed
That’s Zach Snyder for you
@@papaxota4725I’m glad some people liked it bc I thought it was bad from the start. Ben Affleck is such a terrible choice for Batman.
Fr its honestly infuriating how much potential was wasted.
Yea man. I remember walking out of the theater with my friends thinking “this could’ve been GREAT”
We also haven't had any good Batman movies with Robin since forever
Bucky was what saved Civil War for me. Fighting about the accords worked as a setup to split the group apart. But it was Captain America seemingly defending a terrorist who was responsible for kiling the King of Wakanda and Starks parent that transformed it into a conflict were it would be believable for them to step up the conflict.
Arguably the best part of Civil War is the fact that you can easily sympathise with both sides of the conflict, both sides have valid arguments but they can't coexist. That is the best way to setup a conflict between heroes IMO. When both sides are fighting for what they believe is right it makes for a very compelling story.
Bucky makes everything better
Honestly, I don’t have any disagreement. When I was imagining the alternative movie you described, my spine was shivering. This Batman vs Superman movie about the death of Robin would’ve been fantastic, and make me incredibly happy
This would have made so much more sense! Batman hunting down Superman, who was obviously good, because of collateral damage doesn't make any sense. Zod and his army was responsible for the wreckage of Metropolis, not Superman. But if Robin was killed in the wreakage (or Batman was convinced he was) it would make perfect sense for Batman to be so emotionally attached to Robin that he ignores the evidence of Superman being good and goes after him for revenge anyway. You could have it where Alfred tries to talk sense into Batman but he doesn't listen. Alfred then leaves Batman and meets up with Lois Lane and they both try to warn Superman and try to uncover the truth behind Robin's death. And if Lex Luthor was behind Robin's disappearance they could find that out and tell Batman right before he finished off Superman.
Ok your comment doesnt make sense because people in real life blamed superman for the destruction of metropolis what makes you think the in universe people dont? To them it doesnt look like one person is causing more damage It just looks like both are contributing to it.
@@thabreez456 Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knew Superman wasn’t responsible. Not even the US government tried to blame Superman for the wreckage. They built monuments for Superman as thanks for defending the Earth. Batman is not stupid. Even in the version of Batman V Superman that we got he knew Superman wasn’t responsible. He went after Superman mostly because of what Superman could do in the future, not the wreckage. His reasoning for ignoring Superman’s good character is what was flawed.
You just describe Civil War plot
Save.... Robin....
Why did you say that name?
Well they have brought in Metallo or Parasite instead of Doomsday
I absolutely love this format for new videos. One thing I'd say is that instead of robin being killed by a "random batman villain", the villain to kill robin could've been deathstroke, as he was intended to be in the ben affleck batman movie, and was shown to be hired by lex in the post credits of justice league. this way it could tie into the future plans of the dceu going forward.
Deathstroke being Robin’s killer makes sense and would feel so personal in the Batfleck Batman movie
Then we could get a sick emotional fight with night-wing and death stroke
Deathstroke vs Batman in live action would go hard
Yep! Deathstroke being the kind of villain Batman needs in his movies to help usher in the more famous Bat villains and introduce Damian would've been the way to go
The worst thing is, somebody in the writer team might've had this idea but it was declined by the studio. Considering that they were indeed including Robin and the fact that he's dead.
The quick insert of the Robin outfit was to highlight the lengths that Batman must go to to prevent that sort of loss from happening again, and how he must go even further if he is to stop someone like Superman. He has it on display to torture and push himself. I understand that it doesn't work if people don't know the lore but it's already a bloated movie that's setting up a sequel. That brief shot is all you get unless you want an even crazier film length with even worse pacing.
I read and also have the original draft of BVS, and apparently David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio inserted Nightwing into the movie before they rewrote it. The script is also around the same time as the theatrical cut, but only 6 mins longer.
Suggestion: what if Robin was the one who died in the intro, trying to get people out? What if he wasn't supposed to be in town at that time, but he was secretly tracking the unknown bad guy to prove he could fly solo? Heck, what if the bad guy was actually just Jason's mom, and she didn't know Robin was her son?
No, wait, this feels an awful lot like killing off Jimmy Olsen. And also making him a CIA plant at the Planet. Too fanfic-tier writing. Trying to make everything neat and related.
maybe use the chaos of the intro battle to divide Robin and Batman, which leads to Robin getting killed, and Batman cannot reach him in time?
Excellent point, robin should represent the humane side of Batman, which died in the fight between Superman and Zod
@@alfredwang7607 maybe have Robin trying to convince Batman to help Superman. But Batman refuses so Robin went in solo but died. Leaving Batman to also resent Superman a little
@@darrenlai2436 that sounds nice
The thing I'd push back on is Lois being unsure if he's a killer. She should always be his support, and I think her belief in him would be the counterpoint to his guilt-quest in the same way Alfred's is for Batman. Otherwise, top stuff.
I love this because in the comics between Jason’s death and Tim becoming Robin he does canonically get more violent and so it very much fits in line with DC continuity. This might just be me as a massive Tim Drake fan but I would love to see him show up, not as Robin but as just a high school student who tells Clark that he needs to help Batman, partly because in the comics Tim knows who Batman is before he becomes Robin so I would love if he also just casually knows who Superman is as well. He shouldn’t have a major role but even it’s just one scene I would love to see him take a role in bringing Batman back from the edge like in the comics
How about we stop using Jason as a prop for other people's stories? Bold idea, but I humbly submit it for your consideration.
This would have been a great idea, this is how the DCEU would have actually worked.
I want to see more of these Alternate Cinema videos because they look very interesting
Great idea..untill the studio will butchered it anyway 😂
*I’ve always found the Snyder fans to be a little odd* like.. they make it apparent they don’t like the source material - and so clamour for a directors vision (who got it wrong) so he can continue with a franchise they ultimately don’t care about.
As an “odd” Snyder fan, I respectfully disagree that Snyder hates or doesn’t respect the source material. He had a vision of breaking characters, but with the goal of making them triumphant in the end in Justice League. Batman v Superman is his take on the Dark Knight Returns, except Superman is the one who brought him back to Earth. I think the story resonates a lot of people who lost their way in life.
While I hate to take it here, Snyderverse bots are usually right wing extremists for some weird reason, idk what connects the two. And bottom line, right wing extremists all across the globe are ruining the Earth and their respective countries and they notoriously have terrible opinions on sex, comedy, and pop culture.
Coming from someone who likes Snyder's JLA, his Watchmen, and would love to see Snyder helm the MCU X-Men
@@reidpattis3127 the dark knight returns in it self is an elseworld story, and doesn't follow the source material too
@reidpattis3127 - Okay there are *so many things wrong* with this statement..
Snyder literally QUOTED a Superman villain saying “You’re living in a dream world” that’s not the statement made from someone who respects the source material.
He broke down characters but didn’t build them at all. Superman is still boring in JL.
“Snyder’s take on TDKR?” In TDKR he makes it ABUNDANTLY clear he hates the use of guns and murder. Even for how brutal TDKR is - he’s not as jaded as Snyder’s Batman. So he missed the point.
If you’ve lost your way - there’s better ways of putting it in a story than making everyone super jaded - to the point it overrides the core theme of hope.
I always knew that despite the action scenes and the star cast , BVS lacked something which prevented it from becoming a blockbuster , and , now , since , you have identified that , I couldn’t agree more !!
I have a feeling watching this film through the lense of "what really happened to Robin" would've been pretty good.
Yeah, it'd make for a good Red Hood film.
Holy shit, bro--I am speechless. I was one of those Snyder fans who defended BvS from all the haters; I thought it was a great movie, even though so many of the things you brought up were in my subconscious because I also had problems with the movie that I didn't want to admit.
Your suggestions went straight to my heart, and I will never be able to watch BvS with the same mindset I did before. The absolute perfection of your version of BvS blew me away, and I will now always wish it had happened the way you described.
I'm a big believer in emotional motivations for characters in big-budget stories. There's no reason to leave them out, as if the story doesn't need it because it's a known IP and/or there are flashy special effects. Neither of those excuse a story that reduces the conflict to good guy vs. bad guy, as you explained so well.
Thank you for your great idea, and also screw you because you've ruined BvS for me forever lol.
I'm sure he means well.
I like this a lot because one of the big parts of the Versus movies is picking a side, the people watching them can rationalize any side they prefer like in civil war,you can choose who’s more right Iron man or captain American, but in bvs I’ve always felt like you were never given a reason to even like or root for Batman or Superman
I was on batman's side from the preview. "if there's a 1% chance..."
My only issue is that Robin dying not by the Joker’s hand would likely result in lots of complaints. Still a cool idea, but it might be controversial to hardcore Batman fans
I'm sure DC fans will be cool and collected regarding any change in the established lore.
It would also not enable him to become red hood.
There were people Who defended Lex pissy boy Luthor
It Would have been fine
I absolutely loved the opening you made. It really made me feel for Bruce and I could actually see him blaming Superman for it and coming to blows with him. Which is not something I got from the original BvS
I LOVE THIS CONCEPT , PLEASE MAKE MORE
I love the idea of "workhorse superheroes".
Yeah, it's a 24/7 job to keep your hands clean and everyone safe. It's extremely hard, and that's what makes a hero.
What's inspirational is that heroes can inspire and create more heroes that take off the load. In a world of heroes superman wouldn't need to work as much. But until then, it's a 24/7 lifestyle.

Beautiful write-up. Very consistent and pertinent.
What might've also worked is Bruce seeing so many Gothamites and vigilante allies being corrupted over the years. Since the Justice League isn't a thing yet, he'd be on his own testing the morals of this seemingly invincible alien. He could do his utmost to attract Superman's attention by working with paid actors (possibly Clayface cameo for the faux branding depending on where we're sitting in the timeline?) and some older heroes like Green Arrow to fool Superman into believing his tactics are genuine. As additional insurances, he'd tell Superman that he strapped a bomb to an innocent somewhere in Gotham (as a nod to the comics that'd turn out to be himself) and he'd have used his influence as Bruce Wayne to invite Lois to a remote island of his with no wifi, leaving her stranded there (but obviously wined and dined by his staff) only to claim that he's holding her hostage, even going so far as to replicate her pitch for AI screams he'd project all over the area where the final battle ensues. Superman would be tempted to break him but ultimately unable to, falling to his knees and begging for Lois' life.
The recent loss of Robin could factor into his mental instability as well making him semi-suicidal with him trying to get his affairs in order and accomplish this significant task whatever the cost or outcome.
lol

The movie and story you just described would have satisfied cinephiles, critics, and comic fans. Bravo Filmento.
I always just thought Flash should have said "Martha is the key" when he visited Bruce and Boom, full circle.
This would’ve been a nice introduction to Batman in the dceu, he’s fought many of his villains that we know from the other movies but Superman (and the death of Robin) becomes the catalyst in his life that connects his to the larger universe. The next movie can be about Bruce opening up and expanding his bat family while also realizing the big risks he takes everytime a new edition to the family is added.
Glad you survived a plane crash to give us another awesome series
This sounds so good, and I bet watching it acted out by Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill would've been EPIC. So sad that it'll never happen 😢
Hey Filmento, just a little correction: prisoners get killed after being branded by the Batman because it means they are snitchs. They were basically tortured by the Batman for information so when they go to prison, the criminals would know this person is a snitch, that's why they kill him.
That's probably the cover story but it was Lex paying inmates to kill the branded just to rile up Batman.
This series has some real potential. Interested to see other movies in the future
I love this idea! Getting chills while imagining how epic it would have been. We should also keep in mind though that Civil War had a lot of build-up prior. DC seemed to be rushing to get projects out though ;/

When I've read the title I immediately thought it was going to be Robin being a casualty of the Zod fight, or, Luthor framing somehow Superman for Robins death. This take took me by surprise
I mean, mathematically speaking Superman has a good chance at killing Robin. Bruce Wayne was on the scene and Superman killed a lot of people that day.
Babe wake up, a new Filmento video just came out!
Cool concept man. i will definitely look out for these type of videos
I'm excited for all the awesome upcoming stories we will get with this new series! Awesome work as always!
I have to give Zach Snyder props. Before 2016, no one thought it was possible to mess up a live action movie with Superman and Batman in it. Yet he proved them wrong. Bravo.
The fact so many people are still making videos about this film says alot about the significance of it because of how hyped up this movie was and how problematic it ultimately was. It had alot of cool and amazing stuff visually but story-wise/script-wise? Just no.
This was the point where the DCEU was officially set up to be bad, while man of steel had it's issues, it was still a step into the right direction for the DCEU, BvS on the otherhand tried to do SO many things in one movie with half baked ideas, rushed iconic plotlines, and terrible execution of events that it essentially did ruin the DCEU as a whole. And it was the SECOND movie of the DCEU as well, which makes it all worst as well because DC was trying SO hard to catch up to marvel, they rushed and bastardized so many aspects about these key characters and events. And don't even get me started on how much I HATE the future event stuff that they're trying to do and ALREADY trying to make Superman evil, just right after he was sad and depressed throughout Man of Steel.
The movie that was massively hyped just ruined ALOT of stuff off the bat for the cinematic universe and Superman dying at the end of the SECOND movie of the DCEU from a rushed crappy version of "the death of superman" events for the film REALLY highlights that Snyder and the rest of the guys in DC working for the movie has NO idea on what they're doing. It doesn't help that Death of Superman 2018 animated film had a VASTLY better version of the events. That's why people make so many make so many videos ABOUT this movie, to highlight how they ruined so many things by rushing so much stuff.
@@Gadget-Walkmen A Superman-Batman movie should've easily broken a billion. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it could've made 2 billion, but that could just be me overhyping it. Had it stayed true to the characters and had a really good story. They took the two most popular and important characters in all of DC and reduced them to edgy knock offs of themselves, which really sucks because Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck did really well despite what they were given.
What I think would have been even more compelling, is if the criminal that killed Robin is the same criminal that Batman has already encountered before.
But Batman just had him arrested and by sparing him he created a butterfly effect that lead to the death of Robin.
this is a brilliant moral dilemma, not the "batman is now a villain and superman need to stop him" suggested in the video
Like the Joker?
This is amazing, not only you point out all the not-so-good thing but you also give an idea on how to fix, or rather adds more depth to the existing problem, I have never regretted following you for this long, you gave the best lesson throughout youtube, good job man!~ thank you for all of your hardwork!
While everyone is tripping out about boring football and Taylor swift I'm over here watching filmento talk about a movie from a few years ago
Love the video! And it makes sense that Batman would lose in this scenario, because he's not being Batman. All his inteligence, his plans, his cunning, are overcomed by the rage and hate that filled him after Robin's death. And it follows the idea that maybe that's why he hadn't found who killed Robin yet, I mean, if he's killing everyone he cames across that is even remotelly conected, then of course he's not getting any closer to the truth.
Then the fight happens and he cools down. And he starts thinking again.
Maybe the movie would have been better if he was Batman all the time, and not a jaded husk that murders people with his car.
I love this series idea. Keep it up!
You're spot on that making it about Robin's death would have massively improved the film. There are still plenty of other issues that would need to be addressed, but the foundation of the story would have have been so much stronger.
Side note, though...you're wrong about one thing. DC is not inherently better than Marvel. I know this because I asked myself, and I told myself Marvel is better. FACTS. ;D
This version of the story is way better than the original. Nice work Filmento. 😎

Please continue this concept for videos 🙏
It's great see actual solutions to these writing problems in action👍
While I have some problems with Robin not being killed by the Joker, your solution would have made a way better movie indeed.
The "A death in the family" storyline had Superman trying to calm down Batman, which lead to him breaking his hand punching Superman in the face, cause he (Superman) wanted to stop Batman from getting revenge on the Joker.
If you put Jason Todd in the spotlight then no fan will be happy unless it's the Joker that kills him.
@@FutureDeep 100% right. Specially with the brutal way he killed him. Watching him die in the rubble would be... underwhelming.
Cheers!
Superman being semi-responsible for the death of Jason is way more interesting in my opinion.
@@FutureDeepyou can make it like this,
Joker still Kills Todd and Bats can't find him, leading Bats into a Murderous Rampage in Gotham and still can't find the Joker (Batman now intends to kill Joker and doesn't care about Collateral nor Locking the criminals up) and then the Plot of BVS happens as explained above, until the Ending where Batman realises that Lex Luthor is the one that hid the Joker and had him Kill Robin, with Lex Knowing Bruce is Batman like in the Movie which leads to a Spin off movie.
This was amazing and I agree with your points, even though I've never seen Batman vs Superman. I am learning so much from your videos. Thank you!
I'm so glad your unique voice survived the crash. + this new series is top quality!
I know that it is a challenge to fix (or improve) a story using only the existing elements. While many might be tempted to change the whole plot, you've focused the most critical aspect: filling emotional gaps.
If we had your videos during my film school days, we would have been truly blessed.
-your fan
That would have been amazing. Superman then has his way to stop Batman's rampage: after defeating him, he promises to help Batman find Robin's killer. He'd have intel that Batman wouldn't, so joining forces would allow them figure it out, setting up a confrontation with Luthor in the third act. Also just gonna say that Slade would have made a great Robin killer.
Also it would be interesting if Deathstroke's motives are he is avenging his son's death,
Batman in his younger years wasn't fast enough or strong enough to save Wade Jr. And as revenge Deathstroke killed Batman's Son in return.
filmento back with a banger 🥳
you are breaking my heart Filmento.
Since I know your channel, I thought about making alternate story of the movie that 'failed'. But i didn't expect you finally made it. ❤
Great job bro!! Love this.
If you make that change you lose almost everything that made me love this movie, its discussion about how heroes are perceived by the media, how humanity tends to project itself onto things it doesn't undrstand, how past traumas twist our understanding of dramatic situations, its themes of faith, death and rebirth.
The only thing left is the story about redemption which I would argue works better when tou have to face the consequences of your action aka Superman dying in the original movie which wouldn't be the case in your version. Not to mention, how do you setup Justice League with your story ? Superman is still here, the earth is already protected.
I just want to say i'm a huge fan❤
This is a really great concept for a video series! I'm already waiting for the next installment
Just the Title of the video already sounded super intriguing, but every bit you added about the why and when etc made it a crazy compelling story.
personally i'd go for the riddler if we were to pick a villain, i think it's really that in character for the Riddler to have seen the chaos and the rampage of the Zodd battle coming a mile away and then take advantage of it
What a story ❤️
It is truly mind-blowing
Alternate version of the movies always were my favorite part of Filmento's videos !..
Since he did it even with MORBIUS, and it instantly makes it better !
I think This is a ingenious idea with your expertise in films I can’t wait to see what videos you have planned
Check out Nando V Movies. He had a series called “One Small Change” where he Re-wrote comic book movies by adding elements from the comics. He’s made quite a few, so make sure you don’t step on his toes.
Ironically, the whole point of the video is literally summarizing the plot of the unmade "Batman vs Superman" movie that was cancelled around 2004.
Geez your breakdowns has me creating the almost perfect movie..
It’s inspiring to look and listen and learn. Keep it up!
And now after finishing the video, I can't help but be sad that we'll probably never ever get to see a project like this hit the screens. It made me emotional just watching the video, geez
New series, let's go!
What if it was about the death of Lucius Fox
Someone who is like a father figure to bruce
I mean it hits harder than a random dude we've never heard of
@@mathewwilliams6801 lol exactly!
Great video man! 👍❤️ Continue this series cause watching a video talking ideas and different versions and how they could work to improve a film is an AWESOME idea 👏🏻😁
Great stuff! Nando just mentioned he's not doing his One Small Change videos which are basically the same concept. Very excited to see how you use this format!
While Jason Todd is dead Dick Grayson should have been the one who brings Bruce back to light. Some sort of mediator.
Umm Snyder said the robin that died was Dick not Jason, posser, it's been 8 years since he said that and you guys keep making the same mistakes
@@misterio337Snyder is a hack.He doesn't know what he's talking about.
@@misterio337umm we know and it's dumb asf. Nowhere in the movies themselves did they mention that Dick was the one who died. Besides, this is a HYPOTHETICAL rewrite, Snyder's opinions and statements are as irrelevant as his movies.
A brilliant idea for your video's. Trying out ways to make movies better. It kind of reminds me of Fanscription on Channel Awesome with the Nostalgia Critic. Do more like with Ant-Man: Quantumania.
I'm reminded of Nando V Movies.
Phenomenal idea for a new series. Love the essay.
This kind of thought experiment is awesome! Would love to see more!
What if batman v superman was actually about the fight between batman and superman
I love this idea of fixing movies and analyzing solutions to the movies flaws, one thing I didn’t understand about BvS was how indirect the conflict was, everything that was happening between Bruce and Kent was the result of 3rd party and the few times they did interact, it wasn’t enough, the simple dilemma alone about the idea of killing criminals would’ve really helped the movie and make it that much better, and let’s be honest…Zack Snyder’s Batman wasn’t subtle, he was straight up murdering xD
I'm extremely early to a fav youtuber for the first time ever, love the videos man
Great idea Mr.Filmento. keep up!!!
You're in the right direction, but I still see a few problems with your proposal. The main problem is that "killing criminals" may be a point of disagreement, but has different levels of importance for each character. In your version, Batman's killings is a means to an end, it's NOT his objective, he's NOT vindicating Robin with each kill, he's just willing to go that far if it gets him to the real killer faster. To Superman, not letting criminals be killed IS his objective, and he's willing to fight Batman if that's what it takes, but I don't see why that would be needed. Because killing criminals is not Batman's main objetive (finding the Robin's killer is), he would not lose so much effing time fighting the most powerful being in existence so he can keep doing it, he wouldn't "die on that hill". I see that conflict being quickly solved by Superman offering help to find Robin's killer and Batman, even if a little bit distrusting and unwilling to do big compromises, accepting it because that's his main objective. Using your comparison to Civil War, your solution of "Killing criminals" still isn't comparable to the Sokovia Accords, because it isn't the "single two-sided topic of disagreement that both sides can approach directly for their own conflicting reasons" you want it to be. It's still a conflict that could reasonably be solved by a few words.
But I do see a solution: if Batman wasn't killing criminals as a means to an end, but as part of his revenge, that would solve it. And how would killing criminals already be part of his revenge? By there being an Evil Criminal Organization, responsible for planning and executing Robin's assassination and for hiding the killer. This Organization may be an old Gothan mafia, or something else the comics has to offer (but preferentially coming from Gothan), that used all the Zod Vs Superman conflict to track down and kill Robin in a complex plan. Make the investigation have a point of contention of "how did they know the Zod conflict would open the opportunity to kill Robin?", and make that cast a shadow of suspicion over Superman, because Batman's train of thought is that only Zod and Superman knew the fight was going to happen then and there, and only Superman could have human connections, only him could tip a random Gothan mafia about events to come in Metropolis... right? But turns out it's Lex's fault, of course: he was the missing piece, who made a deal between the mafia and Zod, with his sweet-talk and "you want this, they want that, let's make it this way and everyone gets what they want" kind of approach. Now Batman has a reason to distrust Superman and, even more importantly, has a reason to be inflexible about the killing of criminals, because now killing everyone involved IS his main objective. He's still after the One killer, but everyone that conspired to kill Robin is still in his "to kill" list, and he's willing to fight Superman over it, and no amount of help offered will convince him otherwise. The resolution to the fight then could be the same you proposed, and I don't disagree with any of the "mental instability" part of the video either.
This is a great idea and could’ve improved the movie greatly. Also, would Batgirl or Nightwing have been in this movie or just Jason Todd?
Damnit Filmento , now I want the Filmento cut of BVS
Love it. Can't wait to see what other films you do.
