- This closed-circuit satellite feed from 1979 sent promos for upcoming shows to ABC affiliates across the US. The voice-over talent is the inimitable Ernie Anderson, once known as "Ghoulardi" to folks in the Cleveland area. The feed is presented here intact, with slates between each one.

Ernie Anderson. That voice was right up there with Casey Kasem. The Narrators of our childhood. Sublime. Thank You Ernie 📺⌛️🎙️😇
Ernie's promo takes were quite often more entertaining than the shows themselves.
His voice brings back memories of my childhood.
He was the voice that I remember as a child in the 1970s and the 1980s. He had a terrific voice!!! They don't even announce that way anymore.
It's neat to listen to him now as an adult and appreciate how he transitioned from light hearted comedy to suspenseful drama with ease, making it sound perfectly natural. What an amazing professional!
The best!
God, I love Ernie Anderson. Thank you so much for posting this.
He was my favorite announcer when I was a kid. And he inspired me to go into radio broadcasting.
His voice was so perfect for whatever he was announcing. What a welcome voice into our homes in the evenings. But of course, his best line was...the loooooove boat.
The first one is from March 4, 1979, which happened to be the last day KMSP Channel 9 in Minneapolis was an ABC affiliate before going independent. They carried the Osmond show that night but not the Patty Hearst movie that followed. ABC switched affiliation to former NBC station KSTP Channel 5 the next day.
I worked at an ABC affiliate in the early 2000s, they were still doing their promo feeds then. I remember the production editor going through the recordings to pick out promos to edit and tag for local airing.
I grew up off Mr. Ernie's voice.
The way he puts some sass on it when he says "Whaaaaaat's happening!" is pretty funny.
Many thanks for that walk down memory lane 🙏🏾...
Ernie Anderson, The LEGEND 👑
Man, this was magical.
I was working news for an ABC affiliate while these were running, thanks so much for the memories!
Love it when he says 7 Central and Mountain.
6:01 love how Ernie Anderson was making sure affiliates knew one of the segments wasn't to be broadcast.... "I said NOT FOR AIR!!!!" lol
Yes, that is great! I couldn’t believe my good fortune in having recorded it.
I’ve heard some of Ernie’s outtakes and they are brilliant. A favorite is when he says, “And you’ll meet our guest cohost from the hit series OH FUCK IT!”
How did Ernie Andreson become the main voice announcer for the promos on ABC in the mid to late 70s? @@VPR2B
@@SebastianGuevara-tf8gn I don’t have inside knowledge, but you can find his full story on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Anderson
So, tyvm for salvaging these promos from so far back. What's really crazy is that I remember all of these when I was a kid.
This is The Way Network TV Shows were Promoted, Long Ago
And in all those innocent years hearing that voice in our childhoods, who knew his son would go on to make Boogie Nights?
wow-Salvage 1 promos!!
And a Battlestar Galactica promo.
Awesome!
These are amazing. Curious though if that All My Children promo was “Not for Air” what was it’s purpose?
Hard to say. May have been included in the feed so that someone at ABC headquarters in NY or LA could approve it.
@2:24 A young Jay Leno
2:12 Promos for filmed shows often looked rough since they usually had to be cut from dailies, but even so... the quality of this Happy Days promo is just atrocious. I can't believe it got on the air that way.
I always thought that was kind of amazing.

I would like to know if I could make a request or two and have your email address.

…for all of you who were wondering where some of the gags on the Simpsons came from.
Is there anywhere that the ABC Network Promo music beds from 77-79 can be found? I know that JAM Creative did a few of them but there were a lot of instrumental beds and cues that are great from that time period but I’ve only been able to hear snippets of them buried under dialog/action in fuzzy VHS clips.
I'd love to hear those if they exist. I haven't come across them.
I always wondered why these promos were taken from super dirty film prints. Bad telecine?
Looks like they were taken from work prints, which were used for preliminary editing, but why they were SO banged-up is a mystery.
from a time when TV was worth watching. thanks for posting.

I saw a brief "Come On Along with ABC" promo(campaign) that had a dog and Max I think and would like to know if you remember that promo.
I think this may be what you remember: czcams.com/video/C5ikot-DJ2I/video.html
What's the point in even making a promo that is never meant to air? What else is it supposed to do?
Usually these long versions were shown at the yearly network meeting with the affiliates, where the fall programming slate was announced. Shorter versions would then be cut for on-air use.
Anyone know the font that is used ?
Yes indeed - it’s called Zapotec.
@VPR2B
I would like to know if I remember right that you take requests. Can you please send me a notification via CZcams?
If there's something you'd like to see, let me know, and I'll see if I have it.
I am looking for Roots promos, bumpers, etc.
