Registrace 30. 05. 2011
Welcome! I spent 40 years working in broadcast television, and over that time I started saving things that I thought were cool, with either great production or historic value. The name of my channel -- VPR2B -- is the model number for an Ampex 1-inch Type C videotape recorder that was very popular in the late 1970s to early 1980s. At the time, 1-inch Type C was the state-of-the-art video technology, superseding 2-inch quadruplex tape which had been the defacto standard for broadcast and production since it was introduced in the 1950s.
I archived material on 1-inch Type C whenever possible, though many of my recordings were made at home on Betamax, VHS, or S-VHS. I present the clips here for historical value only, and hope you find some that bring back memories.

KTXL NewsPlus Sales Presentation -- Pete Wilson (circa 1981)
This short presentation was shown to advertisers to drum up ad sales for Newsplus, which debuted on August 6, 1979. You can watch the full broadcast here: czcams.com/video/ePrLtx2Z5kQ/video.html
This sales presentation was edited on 3/4" tape, and as a result it looks a bit cruddy, with lots of ringing. I present it here for historical value.
Pete Wilson went on to fame and fortune in San Francisco, first at KGO, then to KRON, then back to KGO. He passed away in 2007.
The voiceover in this presentation was provided by the station's operation manager, Cal Bollwinkel, though the very first line sounds like it was lifted from something voiced by Ernie Anderson.
The NewsPlus theme music is "Gauchos" by Lala Schifrin, from the 1978 album "Gypsies."

KTXL "You're First With 40" promo (circa 1983) - from the master tape
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 6 měsíci
I'm a little vague on the history of this one as my copy appears to be from the master 1-inch tape, but it doesn't look that great. In any event, I present it here for historical value. Following the promo I've included the full music bed with no announcer, sourced from the original 1/4-inch, full-track, reel-to-reel tape. Voiceover by Jerry Chambers.
KTXL 1985 Summer Film Festival promo - from the 1-inch master tape

This ambitious promo, using lookalikes for Burt Reynolds, Woody Allen, and Elizabeth Taylor was shot on film (I believe by Randy Bond), then edited on 1-inch videotape by KTXL editor Stan Severance. Music is from the Polydor LP "Games of the XXI Olympiad - Montreal 1976" Side 2, Track 1 (Ballet "Hommage aux Athletes" Movement Rock). Voiceover by Jerry Chambers.

These ABC promos were created to promote the 1980 fall season. It wasn't a great campaign (in my opinion) so I didn't save many of them. Sadly I started the VCR late on the first one, so you will notice the beginning is missing. Based on the length, seems I missed the first five seconds. Voiceover on the first two provided by the great Ernie Anderson. The third one is Dick Tufeld, most famous f...
Löwenbräu "Around The World" commercial (1986)
zhlédnutí 336Před 7 měsíci
This commercial spot for Lowenbrau aired frequently in 1986, usually late at night. A rather ambitious production for the time, as it was all done in one continuous shot. I remember reading an article about how it was produced I think at Pinewood Studio but haven't been able to find it. Will update this description with a link if I come across it again.

Not as glamorous as Twiggy's opening credits IMO, but clearly a pivot into a more mainstream pop-rock vibe from the previous disco flavor.
Bless you for this! After all these years, I thought I'd gone crazy because I KNEW I'd watched this show (and its next season with Britt Ekland) when I was a teenager yet I've NEVER been able to find any evidence of the show on the internet!!! Seeing this brought it all rushing back ❤ This was an exotic pleasure for me then as it aired VERY early in the morning in the US, after all the US late night shows finished. So this teen was slightly buzzed from sheer exhaustion going into it LOL! Again, thanks so much for this piece of my youth!
That rhytem......
I was about two months shy of my 5th birthday when this happened, and this was the first national news story I can remember. While I've never been to California (I spent my early years in Washington, which is also an earthquake-prone state [Mount St. Helens eruption happened in 1980 and that was triggered by an earthquake]), this was a story I could remember seeing news stories for every day for at least a week or two.
A dangerous place ......

It's bring back remembers And I was 11 year old back then
I have the box set of all seven games. I miss watching them.
This would’ve kept going in my childhood and they should make a modern version of this.
I remember hearing the news theme on tv back in the day. Then later when I heard the version released on record, it didn't sound the same to me at all. I am still keeping an eye out for an old video clip from back then that will include the music. I don't think any of us has it yet.
We all know Async did this by opening the Threshold
I often forget that the Cubs were in the 1989 postseason for some reason.
Thank you for uploading. Tried to find this for years. Brings back great memories of traveling (driving late night listening to KSL out of SLC) with family from & to Salt Lake City & Los Angeles. Oh when life seemed simpler & adventurous & happier.
I remember watching this series as a 6 year old kid. My heart was broken when the Mets lost in 7 games.
Baltimore's last trip to the World Series. They are getting better though.
Awesome graphics.
The last time the Pirates were in the World Series.

I wasn't born yet.
I remember watching this World Series with my Dad.
I was 11 years old and turned on the TV to watch the World Series shortly after 8 PM Eastern and saw that they were playing Roseanne and wondered where the hell the World Series was. It was Tuesday night so naturally they would be playing Roseanne at that time if it weren’t the game but I had no idea what happened initially.
Thanks for uploading the video!
Looking forward to seeing Levin and Belew play this live in a few months - amazing that they're still at it 43 years later!
I may have posted on this one before still creeps me out what happened that night. I lived outside of Chicago and was pulling for the Cubs to win I never seen Chicago in a WS before. Anyways after SF won the series a neighbor came up to me and said well the Cubs blew that one and I said I hope they have an earthquake in Frisco. I was talking to my girlfriend on the phone and went to put the game on when I saw the episode on Roseanne and asked what happened to the game? When it was over it went black and silent for a long time then ABC said because of the earthquake in SF they lost contact with the park. Then I turned on CNN and was like OMG I saw the Bay Bridge and forgot about baseball for the rest of the year I felt so sick about what happened. I knew I had nothing to do with it but it still creeps me out to see the news coverage that night
One final thought what I remember in the reports was the fireman who told people around him there was no power or no service for at least 72 hours. What I got out of that guy and my friends and co workers thought what an asshole he was people around him were all shook up and scared and he screams at people like that. I know he was doing his job best he could but people remember him for being a bit Calis in that moment just my thoughts thanks
1994-95 was when FOX Weekend television got better! SPORTS was added in the daytime, while primetime was still the same (Simpsons, Married with Children, Cops, America's Most Wanted and more). NFL, NHL and MLB were the only three sports FOX aired at that time in the mid-90s
Unbelievable! But who needs a 15:th generation?
The Sony U-matic system barely coped with third generation copies. After that is was a mere catastrophe!
What is a "High Speed Duplicator"? Never heard of.
6:12 first commercial after the quake struck.... Acura (Honda) Legend commercial
The old classic themes are timeless! NBC should bring back the theme from the 70's instead of Carrie Underwood!

What a neat find! Thanks for uploading this. Dan was driving the snot out of that Supra. The ending shot is great.
For quite a while they don't really focus on the highway that pancakes down, where most of the deaths occurred. I think the east coast news people probably didn't realize there were lanes underneath.
Proof that even master musicians can produce shit music…..
His voice brings back memories of my childhood.
Summer campaign 2000
the spectacular move by Michael Jordan.
These commercials always pumped me up for some reason! (dork I know 😂)
Ernie Anderson. That voice was right up there with Casey Kasem. The Narrators of our childhood. Sublime. Thank You Ernie 📺⌛️🎙️😇
Misfits of Science logo looks stolen from He-man Masters of the Universe.
It looks like it went to two different miniture sets and three cuts. 1st cut Washington Monument, 2nd clouds over the capitol, 3rd cut the dark area between the city and house. I believe the last shot is not a minature but a real House. HBO had that wonky tracking in theirs and I was wondering how they nailed that window shot so perfect in this and that's got to be it. You got to respect the cleverness before computers took over. Cool channel, need more like this. Binging on old commercials on bad vhs is heartbreaking.
The voice of Boris Badenov.

Spectacular! Real talk show talent. I miss it so...
Is there not one for Nightly News? Odd they got rid of the nice TODAY Show music but let Sunrise have that awful sounding theme.
