I didn't know him by name, but as soon as he started talking, I was 10 years old again. That voice is the standard by which I still follow as an announcer.
Grew up listening to him as the ABC announcer & thought he had the coolest voice ever. Still do! I especially liked his intros to Prime time shows & the ABC Sunday Night Movie 🍿 I only wish more ppl knew who he was cuz he was a broadcasting Legend.
I remember hearing Ernie's voice on the old, old _America's Funniest Home Videos_ with Bob Saget. The week that he died, the episode of _America's Funniest Home Videos_ that aired was dedicated to him.
What a great voice! He was actually very charming, had a great sense of humor, was quick to swear when he made a mistake, but was such a professional behind the microphone.
Wow. It's amazing by simply listening to one man's voice can so easily and quickly take you back to a place and time. But not just any voice. Ernie Anderson's voice, one that was listened to my millions of people every day in the 70's and 80's. A foul mouthed perfectionist he was and we wouldn't want it any other way.
Thanks much for the upload. I loved Ernie when he became Carol Burnett's announcer, and of course on ABC. I always liked the way he said, "The *Love* Boat."
At 7:00 Ernie does his Roots voice promo. And at 8:25 he does his Winds Of War voice promo. Today 3/7/22 on the Smartless podcast, Ernie's son - director Paul Thomas Anderson - mentions Roots and The Winds Of War in a single sentence (at 1 hour, three minutes, 39 seconds).
His voice just oozed authority and trust. I loved him announcing the mini-series "North & South". It's one of those crafts that seems to have gone now alas.
2/12/19 We all have Fred Silverman, to thank for making E.A., voice of ABC. He done two of my TV shows and was a fine person and class act. Benjamin Hahn ✔️
Rose Marie saw or heard Ernie and Tim Conway's comedy while she was in Cleveland decades ago and told her Hollywood friends about them and got Tim here and he got Ernie to join him. RIP Mr. Conway
She got Steve Allen to hire Tim Conway for his show....but not Ernie....Steverino said "I can do the other guy's part"....about 4 years later, Tim convinced Ernie to go to LA.
When I was a kid, I remember him doing a promo for "The Bastard", a mini-series. Ernie Anderson really seemed to enjoy getting a chance to say "John Jakes'... THE BASTARD!" on TV and being a kid, I laughed my ass off every time that promo came on. When the show came on, I didn't watch it, but the following Monday at school when it was my turn to stand in front of my classmates and describe what I did over the weekend, I tried to imitate Ernie Anderson and said "I watched the mini-series event based on the best-selling novel by John Jakes... THE BASTARD!" Everyone busted out laughing but I still got a letter sent home to my parents, blah, blah, blah -it was worth it.
Too funny, I enjoyed being a class clown too. Laughter is addictive. Btw, the Bastard was good. Watched it back then and had a crush on Olivia Hussey who was practically falling out of her ruffled top.
This last part is a study for anyone in voice acting or voice work. He put a special emphasis on each of the shows he mentioned in the bit....this was play, but to me and others in the biz...it's a big tip about breaking down the copy and find the money word and put some polish on it everytime you read it. Total pro moment ...I'm taking lots of notes....now what was that warmup phrase he did again....Hajawabba something....LOL
One thing he says here is that the audiences on the West Coast are "Polyester City" and "mad Lawrence Welk is off." Ernie was the announcer on Carol Burnett, and whenever there's a shot of the audience there, it's always a rainbow of polyester pantsuits and leisure suits. It does look like the Lawrence Welk audience.
Got Goosebumps when the great Ernie Anderson said Ray Boom Boom Mancini who has to be a Youngstown(my hometown) native. Youngstown is not that far from Cleveland.
Wasn’t Ernie Anderson also pitching the SEGA Master System in the TV commercials, and did he also narrate the intro to “The Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3”?
when Ernie says i have not been on camera since ringing the bell on Carol Burnett he is referring to The Boxing Sketch .... he would appear time to time in some sketch's
The most important part of this interview, of course, would be Ernie saying "The Loooove Boat" at 7:50. And he wasn't lying when he said that screw-ups prompted him to swear a lot. (NSFW obviously) czcams.com/video/bdT1YEtauAs/video.html
I wonder if Ernie Anderson's rival Danny Dark ever made an appearance on 'Late Night with David Letterman'...he voiced NBC during that time! Maybe a brawl should have erupted had those two voice overs met on the same show!
Alex Haley lost a lawsuit filed by Harold Courlander (a white guy), who accused Haley of plagiarizing much of "Roots" from Courlander's book "The African". Ernie Anderson had such a great voice.

And drove a butter-yellow Rolls convertible.

Ernie Anderson and Don LaFontaine were the narrators of the soundtrack of my youth. Great voices.
Danny Dark and Mark Elliott too. If you don't know who they are, just search their names and you'll hear their voices
As a long-time radio guy, this is a great appearance.
I spent my younger childhood in Cleveland Heights and I remember the Ghoulardi show! I was just a little kid but I loved that show.
I vaguely remember that, too, growing up on the east side of Cleveland. Glad they talked about it here. He was a pretty cool and innovative knif.
Ghoulardi was before my time, but I heard Big Chuck & Little John, Houlihan, and Dick Goddard talk about him for years. Oh, to see an episode...
i have posted here a video clip of him from 1963 on the air in Cleve.

This guy had one of the best voices on radio, TV, and film!
Ernie Anderson was the announcer for Parkay Margarine commercials in the 1970s & 1980s.
Wow! Didn't realize that.
Thanks much for the upload. I loved Ernie when he became Carol Burnett's announcer, and of course on ABC. I always liked the way he said, "The *Love* Boat."

Thanks for sharing, Don! He was one of the best announcers out there, along with Don Pardo and Bill Wendell.
The voice of The ABC Sunday Night Movie!
His voice just oozed authority and trust. I loved him announcing the mini-series "North & South". It's one of those crafts that seems to have gone now alas.
So that's why his son named his production company "Ghoulardi Film Co."

Benjamin Hahn ✔️
What a VOICE! Gorgeous!
His opening for Jaws network premier had me in terror.
Rose Marie saw or heard Ernie and Tim Conway's comedy while she was in Cleveland decades ago and told her Hollywood friends about them and got Tim here and he got Ernie to join him.
RIP Mr. Conway

What a great find! I heard him a lot as a kid but I didn't know he was Paul Thomas Anderson's father!
My favorite is when he used to say the words The Ten Commandments.
When I was a kid, I remember him doing a promo for "The Bastard", a mini-series. Ernie Anderson really seemed to enjoy getting a chance to say "John Jakes'... THE BASTARD!" on TV and being a kid, I laughed my ass off every time that promo came on. My favourite American TV network announced of all time.
It should have been announcer, sorry.
Man is this guys voice familiar. His voice sounds like it introduced every show I loved when I used to watch television.
Hmmmm, what a coincidence! 🙄🤦♀️
Thanks for bringing back a lot of fond memories

His voice is really great no questions about it

Mainly because those audiences were mainly made up of out of towners.
"The Looove Boat."
Cool it with the boom booms!
"Hey GROUP! Turn blue!"
Amrap!😅
Great voice!
Master class.
The "Are We On" album is CLASSIC! Absolutely hilarious stuff!
Paul Thomas Andersons dad.
i went to elementary school with his daughter Vickie [until he hit the big money and she was put in a private school]
I can still hear his voice before I heard his voice.
The Father of One PTA.
Legendary!
Got Goosebumps when the great Ernie Anderson said Ray Boom Boom Mancini who has to be a Youngstown(my hometown) native. Youngstown is not that far from Cleveland.
I didn’t realize that this guy did voice overs for Z100 in New York.
The father of director Paul Thomas Anderson!
I feel like I can very much see Paul Thomas in his twitchy physicality and speaking style.
And the red socks.
The guy at 7:36 who echoes hajiwawa sounds just like Jackie Martling
Wasn’t Ernie Anderson also pitching the SEGA Master System in the TV commercials, and did he also narrate the intro to “The Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3”?
Just found out that he’s director Paul Thomas Anderson’s dad.
when Ernie says i have not been on camera since ringing the bell on Carol Burnett he is referring to The Boxing Sketch .... he would appear time to time in some sketch's
Check out Ghoulardi on CZcams...that was where his horror movie 🎬 host gig was in Cleveland from 1963-1966
the man , the machine, streethawk....

He was also the narrator in the super Mario bros 3 cartoon intro
Wonder what The Tonight Show, Late Night, Friday Night Videos, and SNL would have sounded like with Ernie.
I wonder if Ernie Anderson's rival Danny Dark ever made an appearance on 'Late Night with David Letterman'...he voiced NBC during that time! Maybe a brawl should have erupted had those two voice overs met on the same show!
Danny Dark never appeared on the show.
I didn't know that!
Alex Haley lost a lawsuit
filed by Harold Courlander
(a white guy), who accused
Haley of plagiarizing much

Ernie Anderson
had such a great voice.
Smartless brought me here.
Have you seen Promises, Promises?
@@kieransoregaard-utt8 I am not familiar with that - don't recall seeing it.
I'm over here wondering where that incessant knocking is coming from...
