🇲🇸
It’s Friday 11:33 pm EST NJ
Abu Dhabi? Are you onto F1 last race?
Released at around 4:30am in the UK (i know that)
Niue is my completely random guess
Love Syria from Brazil 🇧🇷♡🇸🇾
🫵🤨
This is not our flag
I think visiting finland was gabriel’s best time of his life
Nah he definitely hated it
It was his best time he said it in the last vid
Brings Gabs in for more episodes! He seems like such a fun guy
Yes! More Gabs please!
Yeah. He seems like he'd fit really well in making some appearances.
x2 on this! More Gabs air time!
Finally got to watch the episode and yes Gabs needs to be on more!
Yes, more Gabs please! He seems so natural at this!
as a syrian i can confirm that the 2 stars in the flag are the country's review out of 10
Hahha good one, mate
This one hit too close to home.
Wait, what does that say about the USA?
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 50/100
Turkey and Israel: 1/10 ;)
I am literally studying Arabic in school because I wanted to take on something that was outside of my comfort zone + I love Arabic/Islamic culture.

Love Syria, strong people 🇸🇾🇸🇾
5:45 ERROR in the Cordoba post card part. What the writer said isn't true actually. The Cordoba Mosque (now Cathedral) is one of the most incredible historic buildings I have ever seen. I went a few months ago. It was built in the 700s AD and added to until about the 1100s then church stuff added in 1200s and later, gorgeous! OK, the story, it ties in with SYRIA actually, the country of the episode! The Qibla is facing south and not east, BECAUSE. Adh Ibn Rahaman I, the first Emir of the Cordoba Emirate, was Syrian. He was of the Ummayad Clan whose dynasty was just wiped out in the Levant by the Abbasids. He fled, making it to Spain and setting up his own thing in Al-Andalus (Spain), that eventually the Cordoba Caliphate for a while. Pretty cool story actually. ANYWAY, the mosque! The Emir missed his Syrian homeland so much and he knew he could never return. He had the mosque built in Spain as if it was in Syria, so Mecca is South of Damascus where he was from. So in that mosque, he would be in Syria again in his mind. Also he imported a bunch of palm trees so Spain would look like Syria and there are still palm trees all around Spain. OK, history nerd out moment over. Go to Cordoba if you can, incredible. A little over touristic though. Ah, oh well. The Islamic story of Spain, Al-Andalus is AWESOME! and sadly little known. From 711-1492AD. Granada is also really cool. Cheers.
That is an amazing historical fact thanks for sharing.
Correction Barbs. The United Arab Republic only lasted 3 years not 13. Also its a slight mistake but Quraysh is the Tribe of Mohammed not his clan. Banu Hashim is the clan. To make it simple a Tribe has many clans and a clan has many families.
Thank you, yes I thought the UAR was only from 1958-1961. Fun fact I went to an antique store once where they had a globe they claimed was made in 1922, but had East Germany and the UAR. I pointed that out to the guy and he was still in denial, so that antique store obviously has no credibility.
@@timmmahhhh More like the Antique guy failed Geography and History.
Actually, it did last 13 years, however 10 out of those 13 years was just Egypt, until Sadat's succeded Nasser 1970 and launched the corrective revolution in 1971
@@user-wt4iu1su3q Thanks, I have edited OC
Fun fact: the sign of the little self-proclaimed autonomous republic in Vilnius at 7:16 is written in Lithuanian, Belarusian, Yiddish, Russian and Polish.
Hi! Love from Bulgaria 🇧🇬
Hi love to Bulgaria from a Syrian 👋
I visited Syria a number of years ago (friendly people.) Geography is one of my favorite subjects. Looking forward to more on this here.
Tell me if you wanna visit us again I'd be honoured to see you
@@alanjackson9366 Looking forward to it.
Al-Sham is actually pronounce ash-Sham. Shamsi/Qamri letters. I spent 2016-2019 taking actually classes on the language.
You got that right my friend, well done )
Your Arabic imitation is very accurate Barbs! That is basically how we sound. But one thing, the United Arab Republic (Egypt and Syria unity) ended in 1961. Egypt was called the United Arab Republic until 1971 after Nasser’s death (late 1970).
Love Syria 🇸🇾 and it's people from Pakistan 🇵🇰.
I hope they will regain their past glory.
Brunei Darusssalam too , 🇧🇳❤️🇸🇾
You mean our past glory
@@iraqi3150 Syria and Iraq are one nation, brothers divided by fake borders
Syrian ppl shouldn’t forget their Umayyad empire who conquered from china to spaim
I always hated Geography but you're teaching us it like in funny way
Greetings from Syria ❤️
By now the meaning of the red is universal when it cones to flag
Since you make videos about countries, on which are educational, I decided to make my own world and countries, you inspired me to make my own world, especially your April Fools country episode.
Syria is truly "an underrated country."
Shut up
Barbs, you really seem to have emphasized your subscribers--wherever they come from, whatever their story--I've really never seen a channel so focused on its community. Keep up the good work!!
Syirian Lebanese with a Indonesian dutch , and a lil bit of Mexico what could've you ask more 🔥😆
Hey Barbs, I’ve been following your channel since last year, and now I’ve finally broken even your videos! 🎉 Keep up the good work! Huge hugs from Italy 🇮🇹 🤗 🙌🏼 👏🏼
The original Nasserist United Arab Republic only lasted 3 years actually (1958-1961); Syria left the union in 1961 after a coup; Egypt kept calling itself UAR until 1971
After two years, Barby has finally finished the S's. There are actually more countries in the S's (25) than in the T's through Z's (23).
Which means he should probably be done with GeographyNow sometime in 2023, maybe earlier if he uploads more frequently again
@@anonymanynomsen6034 I think he should start uploading less frequently. If he delays his final episodes he'll stay relevant longer.
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 i disagree. The episodes were better when he worked less on them and also when they were shorter
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 or you know, he can just rework the earliest countries 😳
What a nice upload dear. It’s just superb.
Excellent background view with your super shots.🤩🤩
I am so thankful to you for uploading such amazing video....❤🧡💯
Have some rest Barbs and thanks for the video.
You mention some details you are as a syrian dosn’t know
Thank you for your efforts and this information

Great episode man 👌🏻
Great love to all, and I really enjoyed the episode, well done )
btw 2:05 the noise that you maid is an ancient Arab male named Al-Qa3qa3 (Al-Qa'qa')
Not so much used name these days but still, that was lucky xD
Syria is much historically and culturally close to Iraq love to Syria 🇮🇶❤️🇸🇾
هاد مو علمنا
Cool video, sir. I just wanted to make a quick correction for you about the Assyrian flag. The star in the middle and the wavy lines are the symbol of Shamash. The emblem on top is the symbol of Ashur. As we’re a tiny community with no real international recognition, I appreciate you mentioning us!
All love from syria, i love your videos, and tbh you guys made a great video about syria, Even Syrians can't make a better video, keep going guys, and thanks for the videos ❤️💞
Learning so much thanks to you!!!
Welcome Gabs! This was a fun flag/fan Friday to watch (on a Saturday) because of your interaction in the second half of the video!
2:56 BLOOD OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR THEIR FREEDOM!
The soab that crushed the robot at the end killed me 😭
Letzzz go, i was worried that this was not goin to be uploaded
hey paul! loved the syria episode and i have an idea!!! do about the countries that used to exist! like yugoslavia ussr etc!!!! it will be so good!!!!!
Greetings from Vietnam
Having loved the channel since 2017
Can't wait for the Vietnam episode
Nice video!
All support from Syria ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love Flag Friday so much!!!
Best fan Friday on a Saturday afternoon
Just a question, are you going to make Geography Now Taiwan? 🇹🇼
Its not recogonized by every country..
He’s said he’s only doing UN member states but he says that once he finishes a-z he might do partially recognized countries like Taiwan.
@@Natureguy-le8pl huh, have to wait five years for somali land smh
I think it should come right after S
best fan/flag video yet, imho
Wow Gabs might be my favourite! He brings big old friends vibes
Gabs is awesome! Would love to see him again 👌🌟
This man has taught me a lot of geography
Thank you 🇸🇾❤️❤️
the union between Syria and Egypt was for almost 3 years from 1958 to 1961
اي صح للأسف قال معلومة غلط وساواهم عشر سنين زيادة بس 😂
0:57 It didn't. It existed for 3 years when the Roman Empire was in a state of turmoil, after this it was quickly defeated by Emperor Aurelian.
Some language notes:
Al Sham is pronounced with silent L (A-Sham).
Syrians usually don't pronounce the 'quf' sound. They replace it with some kind of 'ah' sound. It is similar to the 'T' of English speakers with Cockney accent.
I am not a native Arabic speaker. If I am wrong here please tell me.
Yes you're right. They usually pronounce it "A". However, Some cities like Daraa pronounce it as hard "G" and others like Sweida and Latakia pronounce it properly as it is in "Fus-ha"
Yes, most Syrians pronounce the "qaf" as a glottal stop, but as Ahmad said, Syria has many regional dialects, some of them do pronounce their "qafs" as a voiceless uvular plosive, just like in Fusha Arabic.
Never knew Steve Job was a Syrian, that was a real shocker
Why a shocker ?
@@suleyman8696 I would never think that one of the greatest geniuses of the 21st century is descendent from a group of people whose country have been ravage by civil war and turmoil
His biological father who dumped his mother and him. no honor or pride in that.
Barbs!! Where have you been hiding Gabe! He's got great energy for GeographyNow!
You forgot to talk about Damascus University its the oldest University in the Arab world !! Much love from the heart of Damascus !!! ❤❤
@John Wayne I said in the ARAB WORLD
@John Wayne yoooo man i thought that it would be understandable and clear it meant to be that its compination of "oldest and the first" togather 😂

Hey Barby when will you do a video on the Cayman Islands, now in not a native of this country but most of my life has been spent here and my moms side of the family does come from here hence I still have a common last name from here, I am from Honduras and loved the episode of Honduras by the way.
In defence of Gabz, your Mum is the sweetest!! Who wouldn't wanna spend three hours talking art with her? * waves * Hi Barbz's Mum! XD
Could you please do a video about the history of Prussian Culture.
I get that the channel is called Geography NOW but there’s so very few videos discussing the origins of the Old Prussians, and even fewer that are as high quality as your content.
They’re the lost 4th brother of the Baltic.
I hope you’ll do Taiwan. I’ve been waiting for it for so many years. Thanks 😁🇹🇼
yes Taiwan is awesome LT-TW
Taiwan is not a country (+15 social credit)
Barbs does not like to offend "little pinks" (CCP troll arimies), they would screw him into pieces if he dares to do a country episode for TW~ lol
He only does the UN recognized countries and already announced that Tajikistan will be next :(
Great!
Interesting fact both Jerry and Paula are Descendent of Syrian Jews . Job was father was syrian Muslim but job was then adopted
For the next filler week can you do counties of Ireland?
Gabs' singing is pleasing my ears.
Can you make a video about Biafra, I have been watching your videos since the Nigeria episode

Me: my time has come
Wrestler Sami Zayn is also of Syrian descent...he even has a fund to help refugees get food and medical supplies- Sami for Syria.
Barbs, you're still relevant because all these years later you're still committed to the mind-bending task of profiling every UN member country on Earth. In keeping up with this unprecedented goal and growing, developing and maturing as a content creator you've created a worldwide community of geograpeeps who've travelled their own journeys of discovery. You have more impact than you'll ever know and when you reach Zimbabwe, millions of us will celebrate with you. Cheers and happy travels!
Your mom is so cute. Randomly wandering into the background of the video 😂
Gab fits really well in the dynamic
Gabe seems like a really cool, I wanna be friends with him
I missed some more information about alawites honestly. As it once was proposed to get a state.
“Blood of those who fight for the freedom”
I should make a musical of everytime he said that
3:00. 😂😂
I can't help but attribute this to the Morocco episodes.
Yes this is cool
Lol, Gabe is so fricking cool!
Bro im a big fan from syria, and i live in the uae, so i wish to see u bro, love vids
Nice content! Watching from India🇮🇳
You missed Apollodoros of Damascus..The architect of the Pantheon of Rome!
Imma say it again, that guy looks like Dexter
Doesn’t have anything to do with this episode but Keith got me into Rush. Please give him my love 😁

Hi in abudhabi. I’m there too
HEY BARBS THANKS TO YOU I WON MY SCHOOLS GEOGRAPHY BEE!!!😃
One day you should visit us in dubia
Nice
Oh, they didn’t let you stay for the F1 Gran Prix this weekend? Supposed to be historic since it’s been since like 1974 when the top 2 for the Championship were tied going into the final race of the year
zenobia rebelled against aurelian, got crushed, aurelian let her go, then she rebelled again. this time when she got captured, aurelian asked if she wanted him to take her to rome in golden or silver chains.
There is a historical mistake in the beginning of the video.
The united arabic republic (Syria + Egypt) was in the period from 1959 till 1961 .. just two years.
For me personally, it’s the writing system that keeps me from properly learning Arabic. The sounds I can pretty much master fine, but the writing system is what’s called an abjad, where the vowels aren’t even written, or are optional at best, so… yeah.
You seem to have had bad teachers, cause Arabic in Arabic you write what you say, trust me the problem in who ever taught you Arabic.
If you're somewhere close to where I live, I'd love to teach you the system, for free.
I like to add a few things on the Kurdish flags
While both can be seen in Rojava the one on the right side with the sun is recognized as the official flag of Iraqi Kurdistan while they are the same nation with the same language, the Kurds In Rojava still use the one on the right more as their flag.
I just wanted to share that information and hope you learned something fun.
Where did that map at 1:12 come from?
The soap 💣 though 🤣
Nice Greenland shirt
Just a small correction: people from the levant use “al sham” to refer to the levant but almost everybody in Syria use “sham” to refer to Damascus instead of saying “Damascus/Dimashq”
Basically, “sham” in Syria: Damascus
“Sham” elsewhere: the levant
Which was really confusing when i saw a Jordanian talking about being “shami” despite not being from Damascus itself
Yes correct 👍🏼
@@elmoktaeb4228 The word "sham" might refer to 3 things, 1_ the whole region of levant 2_ syria 3_damascus
I am in the UAE to in Ajman
2:57 the blood of those who fought for their dynasties would have been better
Change my mind
Actually it is a symbol for the blood of the nation's martyrs (i.e. combatants who died in action). At least that was what we were taught in schools.
Owen Benjamin is funnier than Steven Crowder, change my mind.

I'm Egyptian but my great meemaw called Sabiya was half Syrian and half Iranian. I love Syria as an Egyptian. I'm Syrian from my mum's side. Sabiya was an animal lover and a vet, who owned a lot of cats, dogs, foxes, birds, hamsters, mice, rats, hedgehogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. She was able to speak Arabic (she spoke a mix of Syrian and Egyptian dialect cause she lived the rest of her life in Egypt), English, German, French, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Persian (Farsi).
