1:46 HE FOUND THE NUGGET WATCHES!!! Yeah so I actually work on and collect those, a lot of them still are kicking around today. They were the cheap alternative to a pocketwatch back then, which mind you was pretty expensive, even for a low end jeweled one. They were made by the likes of ingersoll, Westclox, New Haven and Ingraham. They aren’t the most precise or accurate things in the world, but I like them, they are relatively easy to work on, and fun to get going. It can almost be guaranteed when finding one that doesn’t run, it’s never been taken apart to be worked on before, so it’s fun seeing it come back to life after gosh knows how long lol.
Did you notice the "wrist radiolite" "tells time in the dark"? Yup, that right there is radioactive lol. Radium only emits alpha particles which can't make it through glass so they're probably safe for collectors like yourself, but those watches might have given someone at the factory bone cancer. Ah, the time before workplace safety regulations xd
2:51 Old typesetting and graphic design before computers always excites me, but then I'm immediately reminded why building a time machine to go back and see it would only turn out bad for me :(
4:26 For a few hundred years there was a paper made with alum rosin, which was acidic and would eat the paper over time. There were more expensive papers that would not be effected. Later in the 20th century they would develop acid free paper. The cheapest paper option we have today would barely yellow in a hundred years. Neat to see the dramatic difference in paper aging on the same magazine.
Yeah that was unfortunately commen back in the day. Wasn't until late 1900's were more pressure on Tobaco companies eventually leading to anti somkeing psa's and the banning of comercals in tv,.... and then came vapeing and ruined it all
The thing is they’re not laugh tracks. They were filmed in front of a live studio audience. So those are human being laughing. Added laugh tracks didn’t start until the 90s. My grandpa taught me to play tennis, so I grew up in the 90s playing with that style of tennis racket alongside new rackets. The solid wood makes them heavy and unbalanced (then again, I was a child). I liked them because they were old and my grandpa used them so they’re cool. It’s harder to hit stuff because the racket part is so small.
2:52 My Black ass was curious, and luckily the whole magazine is uploaded to the Internet Archive. Sadly the story's dialogue is written in that eye dialect style that's so hard to understand. "DIVIDE YOUR FACE IN HALF!"
Matey, there's really no need at all to thank us. We all thank you! Not just for the laughs and smiles, but the useful information. Mainly the smiles and laughs though.😄 And you do it for free! Alas I am not in a position to be able support you in a way more meaningful way than a sub and likes. So I for one, am so grateful to you Sir! Oh and by the way, I have started to use the words Chonkster and Nugget as often as I can in the hope they will become commonplace here in The UK.
1:56 I couldn't help but notice that the left watch says it tells time in the dark. Knowing what time this is from, this statement has me very comcerned.
At 4:20 theres a mention of Joe Kirkwood, who's son, Joe Kirkwood jr tried to create an island off the coast of San Diego, by sinking ships and hauling trash, with a plan into turning it into independent country.
And one of the ads with the watches, one of them is watches with radium in it, radioactive material more than uranium that’s used in nuclear reactors holy moly
You say you want to get rid of laugh tracks from Sitcoms, but have you heard of shows with laugh tracks have it removed? The awkward pauses for laughs are weird and unnatural to the point you are forced to make your own just to enjoy a scene.
right, so then just cut the entire page out of the shot. move past it, don't let anyone know it exists but he straight up handled it like the leftist that he obviously is. @@Anex952

Nah mate, prophylaxis is prevention

"DIVIDE YOUR FACE IN HALF!"
What volume and issue?
bro I've never heard of eye dialect, that's pretty interesting
....does "eye dialect" mean font?
@@adre2194 It's an approximation of non-standard speech, in this case a stereotypical rendering of how Black Americans talk.
Even these old ads are very similar to the fake ads on Facebook now. Its uncanny

It sounds almost communist 😂. The moment he read the magazine name, I could only hear it in a Russian accent, lol
"Back when everyone used bar soap" They... still do? Am I missing something?
Liquid soap is more of a modern invention as bar soaps and pomades where all they had for a while based on how the saponification process works
I swear i would watch Dankpods with a laugh track!😂🎉
