unreal. a computer monitor is one of those things that you can have sit around for 15 years and never think about. well done apple.
Mine are all around the 23 year old mark and still work perfectly. Gonna hold onto them until Prysm gets LPD out the door.
Been running my 1080p 60hz Dell monitor with impeccable color accuracy for 13 years, besides some temporary burn in when I sit too much on the same program it's been holding up like an absolute charm!
i nearly got 8 years out of my first gsync monitor, the display port broke and it was such an early model nobody had boards for it anymore except one guy in france. paid $60+40 for shipping, and it turned out he pulled out a zif header on it along with the plug, so it was trash too. tried to save it, but I had to get a new one. I've had this gigabyte monitor for a couple years now, and it's good, but despite being IPS it doesn't look as good as that first generation gsync TN panel.
My old ass CRT is still going after 24 years, with a bit of blur though

I've never understood the "firmware update can completely brick your device" thing. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to build in a backup firmware with a hidden reset button that could dump that backup into wherever the corrupted firmware is stored, getting the device back into a usable state.
It isn't hard. There are numerous solutions to this problem. It's just apple being apple.
Easiest and probably cheapest solution I can think of is to straight up have 2 bios chips. If something ever goes wrong you switch over the second and flash working firmware to the first.
Me neither. Especially, surely, they should have _tested_ the update before shipping it, right?
@@LiveType oh, you mean like gigabyte did (do they still do that?) on their mainboards?

Worked there a while. Stuff like this has a 90 day replacement warranty period (rather than repair) so within that time you can get a replacement or a refund, choice is up to the customer
JB-Hi-Fi is honestly one of, if not the best Aussie electronics store when it comes to customer guarantees and refunds, etc.

The great thing is that they briefly brought up DankPods on the Wan Show so Linus and Luke do know of his existence. This could happen.
@ltt
Under Australian Consumer Law, I believe they _have_ to give you the option of a refund, not just a replacement. Great to hear good ol' JB is up on their consumer law!
We have FABULOUS consumer protection. If a product is not as advertised - such as "it literally does not work" - or if it breaks in a warranty state in under a year _regardless of what product it is, minimum 1 year,_ then they MUST offer you a choice of either accepting replacement or refund. They don't get to pick, YOU get to pick. These are minimum rights that cannot be waived under law.

Because its apple and apple doesn't make products very well anymore. 90% of all their products have major design faults or defects, they then blame the user for the issue or just say "we don't know anything about this, no one else has any trouble"..?
They just don't give a shit it costs time and money for them to actually do stuff properly so if they can get away with out spending any then they will keep denying it until they physically have to. And until then they will just try to pressure you to buy another of the same product because according to them, their badly made product breaking = you using it wrong and breaking it so you have to buy another one. :)
Ok yea this is obvious but report systems work off of statistics. So if a LOT of people were having a problem it would be fixed. Like yea somebody using their platform to call something out is a good thing. You could say........... they've done it again.
Apple: Implements a self diagnosis system that allows the display to show an error message.
Also Apple: Doesn't display the fault code because that would potentially let people repair it themselves.
Imagine if right to repair became a law globally, any “legacy” devices included, Apple would be in crap up to their eyeballs.
here is the thing, they literally dont want it, they want you to lose money
"The best i can do is ERROR"
@@gustargento2645because they know most people who are able to buy a $2500 monitor will probably just buy another if it breaks
As much as I love scathing Apple for all the wrong they do from a consumer perspective this bs of not showing error codes is not exclusive to Apple, literally the other day I got a blue screen on my windows machine and all it says is it's restarting due to an error and gives a sad face :( NOTHING ELSE I had to go into Event Viewer to discover that the error was something sort of RAM issue. It's rare that I get a blue screen, most common when playing GTA V.

Well played to JB for actually good consumer experience
First time ever JB Hi-Fi are insane markup horrible to consumer bastards.
Apple is so good at simplifying things and at the same exact time over engineering it. It is honestly impressive. Glad it all worked out in the end, Mr. Dank.
Overengineering is a technique used to make things obsolete sooner because nobody wants to bother to repair their old or nonworking stuff, and making things ultra-simple makes them enticing to consumers.
That's why it's dirty what Apple does.
Only as long as you are fully plugged into an Apple ecosystem. Too many times Apple products are significantly less usable because you don't have enough Apple products.

The best bit about this, is I actually went into my local Apple shop in 2019, and they recommended me to by this over the lg models they had in stock as it was half the price (around £450) and the only difference was it was a 4k display instead of 5k. It does lack a mic and a webcam, but these are just negatives to me!
Also turned out it was great for dell laptops as well, as I was able to just plug my work laptop into it during the pandemic and it worked perfectly (Was the only person not to bother to bring a docking station home)
If I could find a retail store that would just straight up refund something like that for me, they'd have my business for life. Never underestimate brand loyalty when you're just nice to your customers and makes things easy
That's normal in many countries. Particularly in the EU.
Really???
In Israel, even by law, once you opened a tech product's box = no refuds. And no tech shop would even consider it. You can only refund after 14 days if the box is sealed.
It's even rare here to get a refund if you get an issue with the product, they would probably just send it to the warranty laboratory even after 2 hours and try to fix it for ya half assed.
Also, for most dealers and shops in Israel, we have like one tech laboratory firm (Which is called something like DCS) that fixes all tech and they all just send it there.
I really wish Israel would make better laws for consumer rights, it's really frightening to buy tech here. And if you buy one, just forget about refunds.

JB also honours the price on the tag, even if it's outdated, I saved $100 when I bought my Sony XM4's that way. I didn't even have the chance to open my mouth before the card reader displayed the price that was on the tag.

This is why I love wade. He puts everything into consideration like the workers that make the stuff, what they get paid and what waste will go into the planet and he donates when he can. Best CZcamsr. Also my favorite. All the channels.
it was probably under warranty, JB is great for their warranty policy. i had a game headset die on me which i had purchased extended warranty for. and because it was still in the manufacturers warranty period, they carried the extended warranty over to my new headset. as well as discounting the new headset for what i paid for the old one. great service, love JB
Hey mr. pods don't worry about your work week getting delayed always still excited for all the content you release. We understand the pain and suffering you went through with that display!
it's about money
Honestly that really helps put into perspective how expensive some things are
2 consoles, a tablet and a bunch of games, oh and dont forget a perfectly capable replacement screen!
Can't forget the dvd box set!

Have a 20inch Apple Cinema Display HD from 2004 or so. I was using it for a time with a gaming computer in my bedroom. Randomly one day it stopped coming out of power-save mode and fully powering on (randomly it would would work). After some troubleshooting and checking the voltages on the power brick, I came to the conclusion that the circuit board had something that went bad on it. Eventually it stopped even powering on its standby led light and fully became unresponsive. From what I can tell online a lot of people had similar issues to what I encountered. Also after reading into the issue, I was amazed how over engineered it was, specifically the PSU brick. Like a simple barrel jack with +24.5v and -24.5v would suffice, but they made a connector with 10 pins with the voltages repeating on the outer pins and center pins being sense or something.
I have it set aside, might try to see if I can try to repair it. Most likely though, repairing it will be outside of the scope of my skill set and I will have to dispose of it.
I can just imagine that scene, where the JB staff are all "where would you like us to send your refund to?" and he's immediately "store credit mate"
Hey mate love the vids. As a small business owner, In a completely different field, the best thing I've found with heavy equipment is the customer service. We have lost thousands on catipllar, switched all our machines to bobcat, and have our rep and tech on speed dial. It's apples to oranges, but running a small/personal business, having your equipment run through someone you trust and can talk to makes the difference between profits and problems.
Apple does have a business service, but it's unclear whether he would have to go into the store for it, or whether he can just get the stuff delivered.
Where I live in Canada we have this amazing part and tools store that takes ANYTHING BACK no matter how old no questions asked they either replace it free or give you the CURRENT PRICE it’s amazing
Apple product: Breaks in 2 months
The TV my grandma bought in 1991: Still works perfectly and shows no signs of giving up

I sort of wish he would have gotten a ...Craig Monitor lol

A LTT and Dankpods Collab would be amazing, an ipod themed PC build. 10/10 would watch.

And you just KNOW Linus would be down for that.

We're gonna need that Linus crossover, the sheer force of chaos would be in of itself a renewable energy source
If you haven't seen them before get a monitor calibrator. They usually cost a couple hundred bucks, but are well worth it if you need accurate colours. I've personally used a Spyder for years and years, but I hear good things about Color Munki as well.
They are quite expensive and you can usually find some companies or just dude that are renting them. Usually you need to calibrate once or maybe once in a few years.
@@vadnegru for Color critical work, no. Not my personal experience, but I’ve heard it’s best practice to do it every year (or was it 6 months?) *for Color critical work*. When you absolutely always must have correct colours. Otherwise yes, once every few years is perfectly fine. and for wade’s case, since he already has a good monitor on his laptop, he’s good
In critical work you will calibrate every 100 hours or so.
Surely there's some software that can do the same thing.
@@blakksheep736 no. A calibrator can actually 'see' the monitor, as well as the ambient light. Software can't. It's essentially blind.
The firmware update thing probably relates to the A13 Bionic in there, for the Centre Stage webcam feature. Always found it dumb that a monitor needed updates tbh
Wait, they put a full on iPhone processor in the Studio Display? Why does the Studio Display need an iPhone 11 in processing power? It's a fucking monitor! Surely the Centre Stage feature doesn't require a full iPhone 11 to work right?
Its Like humungous iPad OS
I have a samsung 32" 4K monitor for my gaming setup and it has been great so far, using it both with my gaming PC and on occasion with my Switch. Had it for a year and a half now with no issues, and I had a smaller monitor before that that I have had for 3 years in my main setup. so I hope yours works out well too ^-^
Oh my God you just blew my mind with the Angry Beavers box set! That is one of the best shows of all time
The color part is so true. My dad was a graphic designer and didn't have the perfect monitor so often times I'd have to go grab a digital print of the work from other side of the city just so he can see the actual color.
Australia has great consumer protection laws. Hence why so many AAA game platforms are afraid to operate there.
Any plans to look at the Status Audio Between Pro earbuds? Been getting a bunch of ads for them. They apparently have 3 drivers in them, one each for bass, mids and top end. 🤷♂️
IIRC, those displays are running a cut down MacOS. Honestly, the idea of a display running its own OS is crazy. I have monitors that are exactly the same except one is clearly running a different firmware because the boot logo is different. What happened to the firmware never needing to be updated and monitors will monitor? Heck, VGA still works if you have the ports for it!
It's really not crazy at all. Many pro monitors have some os on them. Thing is, they NEVER stop running if they get outdated. Not even Lenovo or Canyon does that. Not even Dell.
It's so ridiculously funny to me that one of the most quoted reasons people give to pay the Apple premium price tag is that "Stuff last a long time"
next time someone tries to pull that on me i'm sending them this video
their phone outlive most android phones, their tablets are uncontested, laptops 50/50, anything else? there are companies that has more durable stuff
@@vipvip-tf9rw "their phones outlast most Android phones" that's because most Android phones don't cost 1500 dollars. Such a stupid comment repeated over and over again, comparing two completely different classes of product.
Exactly the same with the tablets and laptops.
At least most PC's don't die because a 2 cent sensor is software locked, like that bullshit of a macbook. And that's just the latest on the very long list of Apple anti repair crap
There’s so much missing from comments under a vid like this. Guys Apple studio displays are competing with like 20-30 grand displays. Most of this vid was just the fact that dank pods didn’t have time to sort out a replacement anyways like he literally could of gotten one bros just busy. And on top of that it was that the old displays held their value not that they lasted long.
@@merryjerry69 you.... You do realize that only makes it worse, right
1:08 - You just perfectly described Apple products, every single word you said is basically how they make them, except they make it insanely expensive anyway for the end user. And they are not repairable so you just throw them into a landfill when they die. Perfectly accurate.
Imagine being able to upgrade your old computer to get 10 years of additional life out of it.

Lol my home setup is a desktop with 4 random monitors (two from work ewaste and two from thrift store) on a thrift store monitor contraption, and my work setup is an ewaste laptop on an unwanted laptop and monitor stand, with a dvi monitor converted to displayport going into an ewaste dock, with an unwanted keyboard and mouse combo. And a random computer speaker/conference call thing that looks like it's from 2005 in the mix just for fun.
Ive genuinley only ever had really positive experiences as JB, my iPad borked itself one morning before uni and I was freaking out (I use it a lot for uni, Art and shit). i had bought it from jb, I went there, 10 minutes and I had a new iPad, they offered a refund I decided otherwise. when I got home I read up on their return and refund policy and its really quite lenient and customer friendly. JB for the win!

I had a completely different experience with Apple this week. I bought a pair of used Beats Studio Buds off of eBay, and they worked great when I first got them, but then one of the earbuds stopped working. Checked the warranty and it was still good until the end of the year. I contacted Apple support, and they're going to service (aka replace) them for free. Best $30 I ever spent.
