    I think The Sims will remain the more popular game-for a while. But EA is like that abusive boyfriend that keeps you in that sad gas-lighting cycle because you have nowhere else to go. If these future games really step up and offer complete games and true transparency the simming community could really find themselves migrating to games without years-long unfixed bugs, rich and deep content, and a respectful friendship between player and dev. This latest pack Growing Together has finally made me quit the Sims with its milestone-disappearing bug. I’ve pitched over a thousand bucks into this game and I’m so sick of them putting out packs for sale that are broken.

      I totally expect Life By You to have DLC. But I feel like it will all be Gamepack size, no near-compulsory Expansions or tatty Stuff/Kit packs. And it won't be bullshit like My Wedding Pack. So maybe you'll get pets in a pack, but not everybody wants Pets. Maybe occults will be in packs, but not everybody wants occults.

      @@hyenaholicproductions9033 That's how Paradox generally put out DLC. Paradox DLC add depth of gameplay to existing gameplay, and there is MUCH, MUCH more quality to Paradox DLC. A lot of people are saying stupid, blanket statements like "all DLC is bad". Those people have obviously only played The Sims. DLC with Paradox is generally quite good, and if you talk to people who actually play games outside of the Sims, you'll find that people generally have a very different view of DLC from Paradox. I certainly have a lot of it. Not all of it, but a lot. DLC is kind of made essential with The Sims to get any gameplay, but it's not with Paradox. With Paradox you can pick and choose to suit your gameplay, and that's how DLC SHOULD be.
      I'd like to see the basegame have a bit of everything, and DLC take some of that and expand on that. For example.
      For shopping, perhaps the base game can have a basic shop where people can go and buy anything, and some people who aren't into grindy shopping might be satisfied with that. Then a DLC could come out to expand on that, with varieties of shops, where shoppers can browse and choose, with careers associated with shops. Grocery shopping for those who want it. It could add the ability to build a shop and run it in depth. I loved Open for Business in The Sims 2 - one of my favourite packs.
      The base game should definitely have cars with automatic driving from place to place like The Sims 3, but a DLC could introduce player first person driving, teens going for a driver's license, a mechanic career, the ability to fix and service cars, minor car accidents, a shitload of different kinds of cars, car sales yards, even car racing tracks. Not everyone will be into that.
      Cooking: The base game could have basic cooking, including recipes and ingredients etc. The Sims 2 did this well (The Sims 4 did this rather badly - they made the graphics so generic that every recipe had the same graphics - The Sims 2 had varied graphics depending upon what they were making and what equipment they used). An expansion could expand on this hugely - making cooking a major thing, where players have to find recipes and actually specify procedures in recipe making, even perhaps include mini-games. And this pack could work very well with the shopping pack and a grocery store.
      The base game could have a generic holiday destination with a hotel and a beach with various entertainments. A DLC could have a variety of worlds attached with a lot more, similar to The Sims 3 (loved that pack!). This would work wonderfully for Life by You, because people would put out all sorts of mods to flesh these 'worlds' (I don't get why people call them 'worlds' - they're not different worlds in my view - just different places within the same world) out even further, and make their own holiday destinations too. Some people might not be interested in varieties of holiday destinations.
      Parks and Beaches: The base game should of course have these with swings and general playgrounds and park benches and bbqs, which would possibly satisfy a lot of players, but an expansion pack could have the ability to build your own very cool playgrounds and waterparks and parks in general, make events like festivals and carnivals with food and rides. It could expand on pathing and nature walks and add botanic gardens.
      And of course, there's parenting and families with endless possibilities. The ideas that could be expanded from an already rich base game are endless! THIS is how DLC should be! Not the additions of everyday things that are suddenly introduced that should have been in the base game to begin with. If you make a basegame with most gameplay missing, the base game should be free from the outset, then it's pay to play - a VERY different Model. EA have been burning the candle at both ends for years, making people pay twice - once for a featureless base game, then pay again to get the features they have already really paid for! If I pay 40% of the cost of the game in an expansion, I expect to get 40% expansion to my game! Expansions are meant to EXPAND, not complete!

    Honestly I think that the Sims have run its course thanks to EA. While the build mode is fantastic, the Sims are a life simulation game and even with mods, I struggle to keep myself entertained with the gameplay. I never had this issue with the Sims 3. I am very doubtful that the fifth instalment will be any better than the fourth, so I am very happy to see that alternatives are made. Everything can be replaced; one has to take only one look on what happened to Sim City and unfortunately the Sims will most probably share the same fate.

      I think that, at this point, instead of something like Paralives or LBY, we need a Sims fangame. Paralives and Life By You are gonna be great, but they lack the lore and gameplay features (occults, ghosts, grim reaper, etc) that are iconic to the Sims. Paralives and LBY can’t do a carbon copy obviously since they’d get in trouble with EA for monetizing it, but a Sims fangame made by the community could, as long as it’s free.

      If you went back to play a previous sim version. Do you think you would find it easier to stay entertained? :) Or do you think it may have more to do with you getting older, and therefore not finding joy in the same things you did as a child?
      Don't get me wrong, I have the same 'issue'. But I don't think it is because of the game. If anything, it is an improvement, since I only had the (often crashing) base game in sims 3, and very little dlc in sims 1 and 2. But even if I had all the dlc of the previous ones, I don't think it would be that different. A few aspects maybe; but nothing noteworthy to be honest. :)

    • @martynickaYT
      @martynickaYT Před rokem +3

      @@HereIAm247 There is definitely a nostalgia factor involved with the previous Sims games. Anything related to childhood is always better than the new thing in a way. I actually go back to the Sims 3 on a regular basis for over a decade, and I do not do it for purely nostalgic reasons but simply because I do have more fun playing it than the Sims 4. I am lucky that I never had many issues with the Sims 3 running (occasional crash did still happen from time to time) and I understand why a lot of people are put off by previous games because of these technical issues which do become more frequent the bigger the save is. What I would love to see is maybe a refresh for the previous games, so they could run better on all kinds of PCs, so everyone could enjoy them more. My only critique of LBY is it doesn’t have a “look” that is identifiable yet. But game play wise it’s what most life sim players have been asking for.
    Not that I think this would happen , but if LBY absorbed paralives and there was a hybrid of the two games looks-wise, I don’t think the sims could compete at all operating under their current model.
    Im personally not buying anymore sims 4 content based on principle. There is literally nothing to do in any of these worlds that all look the same. I don't think the sims will die completely. There will always be die hard fans. However, I do think that EA will lose a lot of revenue from those of us who are absolutely done with them and will be migrating over. It will hopefully be the wakeup call they need to provide people who want to stick with the sims with the value for money they should have always been getting.
    I think the problem is, like you mentioned, Paralives and LBY are not the sims and people are going to be expecting almost like for like. I think this will be a sticking point for sims players. With literally only one life sim at the moment, there is tons of room within the genre to cater to everyone. Look at the explosion of farming and cosy games in the last 2 years. There are sooo many and a lot of them are getting equal traction while Stardew and AC are still the dominating games.

    • @suicune95
      @suicune95 Před rokem +11

      100% this I think Life Sims are going though the same evolution farming sims went through a few years back. The main content on offer was lackluster and either stagnating or rapidly decreasing in quality (Harvest Moon is garbage since Natsume took the name, Story of Seasons is pretty good but I think most people agreed that the original SoS and Trio of Towns weren't really doing enough to keep the genre fresh. Rune Factory was basically dead after 4 despite strong sales due to the company's bankruptcy. That was basically the bulk of the genre right there).
      Then Stardew Valley came out and knocked the pants off of literally every Farming Sim to date even before it got it's myriad of completely FREE updates, companies realized there was a huge market (I mean SDV has sold 20 million copies, up there with titles like Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption, some Pokemon titles, etc.) and started trying to get a piece of the pie. Some of that was just plain farm sims, but there's been plenty of iteration on the genre too.
      Basically, a developer stagnated, leaving plenty of room for a competitor to come in and run away with the ball. It's definitely not a coincidence that we're getting a lot of ambitious Life Sims now that Sims 4 has left the genre very stagnant for nearly a decade.

    • @RykerJones28
      @RykerJones28 Před rokem +1

      @@suicune95 you put it far better than I could 😅 though maybe SDV was a poor example for me to bring up because ConcernedApe really did create something special.
      At the end of the day, if every genre was like how the life sim genre is now we'd have about 10 games to choose from. Imagine if the only shooter was COD or the only JRPG was final fantasy? It would be so boring! So many stories would go untold.
      More life sim options doesn't mean that the sims has to die or that you can either play LBY or the sims or paralives and not all 3. I have all but moved away from the sims at the this point anyway in favour of things like farming sims and for more creativity, things like house flipper and animal crossing so I need a life sim to fill that bit of gameplay I'm missing.

    • @suicune95
      @suicune95 Před rokem +5

      @@RykerJones28 Oh yeah make no mistake, Stardew Valley absolutely would not be where it is if ConcernedApe didn't make an absolutely stellar game. I don't think that's up for debate (the creators of Story of Seasons even flew him out and modeled their most recent mainline entry to be heavily Stardew inspired! He literally redefined the genre!) Players bought Stardew first and foremost because it was an amazing game. Thing is, he got a MASSIVE leg up thanks to the genre stagnating, and there would have been no need for ConcernedApe to make such an amazing game if the genre staples hadn't been so lackluster for so long.
      Sims 1, 2, and 3 were THE life sims, and they remained that way because of a combination of being expensive and difficult to replicate, genuine talent and passion on the part of the people at every level of the operation, and just being absolutely amazing games. TS4 lost a lot of the talent that made the earlier games great and it wasn't a very good game in general, and eventually someone else is going to put work into figuring out how to tackle the complexity hurdle.
      I think EA got too comfortable (and greedy) with their lack of competition and figured they could just do whatever they wanted with The Sims and we'd all be forced to buy it. Now they're learning what happens when you get complacent. New games move in to be better than you and steal your audience away.

    I have sank over 5000 hours into The Sims 4, and have been playing it since the day it came out. Over the years, I have bought every single pack (including kits) but as of the latest expansion pack, I am done. Not just with buying dlc, but with The Sims 4 entirely. I exclusively played The Sims 4 for nearly a decade until I decided to branch out and try a few other games. After genuinely finding myself enjoying these other games, I literally cannot play The Sims 4 anymore. Like, it does not even sound fun. I open up the game now and immediately close it because I just cannot be bothered to wait through loading screen after loading screen for an event or lot that is messed up by bugs (one of which destroyed a 7-year save file beyond repair--no mods or cc). The Sims 4 is an incredibly fun game, if it is all you play. But once you experience a game that shows you the high level of detail and love that the developers poured into it, you can't go back.

    I hope the competition will actually happen in a live mode.
    I mean LBY is testing waters and will most likely have to adapt and change in years. Also, it won't do on low end and average PCs. Seems like not everyone quite gets it now. It's actually a huge thing to have in mind.
    Then Paralives. I'm waiting for this game, I really want it to release and be successful, but.. The release date is nowhere to be seen. Maybe even in years. Yeah, I know, I know, small team, development process, etc. Still, it takes a huge amount of time, while others are already out there. Will it be out in 2, 3 or 5 years? Or more? Will it ever be out, especially considering LBY will take a place of a major competitor of TS and NOT Paralives in the nearest future? It's all highly questionable.
    I want LBY to be a solid and rule changing life simulator, although my PC as it is now won't handle it. It handles TS3 and TS4 perfectly, but LBY is another level. I also want Paralives badly. Idc, it feels so chill and cozy, and colorful, and warm. I wanna play it so damn much.
    But in reality LBY is yet to find its way and Paralives is nowhere to be seen in the horizon.

Regardless of whether they have any reason to be there, or even reasons not to be there (being at work or having unattended infants at home). If you go skiing in Japan, Eliza Pancakes is there. If go to the lounge for a drink, she is there. If you water your dirt piles in the garden, she is jogging past. We accept this because it is cartoon logic. So I wonder how long EA have known about LBY. I believe that we only got the latest pack because they knew LBY was coming. The pandemic did not affect them apart from workers having to work from home. People were still buying the packs and probably playing even more. The dramatic reduction in EP and GP, and the death of SP, could have been because they started frantically working on making the sims think better and have infants. How long have we been asking for generations and EA ignored us? Suddenly we get something close just before LBY announcement. I don't think it is a coincidence.

      It's not a coincidence, any more than The Sims 4 adding curved walls (badly) is a coincidence after Paralives put it in their game. Company execs keep a rabid eye on the competition. They would have known about Life by You not long after it started. That's what companies do. This is, after all, why they announced The Sims 5 so unusually (for EA) early. This is why they're a little more transparent about The Sims 5 when they've never been before. This is why they put out infants, and this is why this latest pack has a little more value than previous packs. This is ALSO why they moved into that mod app recently. They are working at keeping their modders from jumping ship - modders are very important to keeping their players.

    As soon as EA got their grubby little hands on Maxis, The Sims turned into a cashcow and it shows. EA won't loose sleep over these two new games and honestly, it needs competition as seen from the latest pack's and the infant update with dlc locked changing table, it still makes me sick and I cant justify $60 (Australia) just for that one thing. It's actually insane. As a console player, dlc costs as much as a base game can absolutely jump into an abyss because of how empty it is.

    Thank you. The Sims (EA) community can be very toxic. It’s almost like people forget it’s just a game. It’s not real life and just because they like it doesn’t mean someone else has to. I suppose it’s hard to admit after dropping 100s of dollars to play a game that they’ve been ripped off. I have bought every Sims game and dlc but I know damn well Sims 4 has been a buggy rip off. I like playing simulation games. Cities Skylines, SimCity, damn near every “tycoon” game, and every variant of Stardew Valley farming games. They are games. Each different and offering many different things.
    It’s unfair for EA Sims community to even compare LbY or paralives to Sims whatever version number. They are completely different games and at the end of the day no one cares whether someone likes it or not. Those that play it will play it and toxicity isn’t going to change that.
    Paralives has a harder role because they actually have to try to convert toxic people to their side and therefore their production gets held up trying to cater to their wants. A dumb strategy because even if you made the perfect game, you’ll never please the simps.
    LbY on the other hand is a Paradox game and Paradox already has millions of game fans because of their great games. LbY isn’t being designed for Sims 4 Simps. It looks more rpg like and more in-depth as far as gameplay and customization. The biggest complaint you hear from simmpers is the graphics. Really? The most played and sold game in the world is Minecraft. You’d hardly say they have state of the art graphics. Stardew Valley isn’t using cartoony 3d graphics either and yet is a much loved game. If you like the look of Sims 4 then play it. One’s enjoyment of a game has nothing to do with me. You don’t even register as a thought in my life and I surely don’t fret about what game someone likes when I go to bed at night.
    These are all different games, they act look and feel differently. If they were the same then there would be no point to them. You can actually still play Simps 4 and the other games lol. I have dozens of games I play according to how I feel at the time. And as pointed out, competition is always a good thing. You have to wonder though at the large number of posts lately that having a choice is overwhelming. I seriously feel sorry for people today when choice is a concern. I guess that’s how we get companies like EA to begin with.

    i personally think it's high time that sims got its rivals and competition bc they can basically do what they want bc there is no real alternative for us.
    like the only alternative is, will i play the sims 3 oder sims 4 let's be honest. i love the sims 3 and i think the sims 4 has made a lot of good things but tbh it's also very clear that the modders and the cc creator are the ones keeping the sims 4 alive.
    do i think both of the upcoming game will actually pose a threat for the sims as in that they actually will lose ppl to these games? with paralives i personally don't think so.
    i think we all will love it and will probably say it's better than the sims 4 but it doesn't have enough of a base to go off on it with cc and mods. and since they are an indie team they simply - even if they have the skills and the potential to beat the sims - don't have the resources.
    with life by you though i actually see a possible chance. maybe it's bc i genuinely got excited about the possibilies they introduced with writing your own quests, dialogue and all the customization options they talked about. it will also be able to be modded and stuff? so i honestly think in terms of storytelling and stuff that ppl could actually switch to that game. and if also the graphics and looks are as good as they admittedly are in the sims 4 then i really think the sims will have a serious threat with life by you.

    I'm honestly ok if Life By You has DLC ngl. I know some simmers will be the kind to collect 'em all, but at least in the first three sim games you weren't really expected to get them all (or even most of them). You were expected to get a few to customize your experience and leave the rest. Like occults but hate family gameplay? You can get Supernatural and skip Generations and not really lose anything. The reason why Sims 4 sucks is because the packs have been chopped into a thousand pieces and now you need like four combined packs to get what used to get you one. If you're a family/legacy player then you need, minimum, High School Years, Growing Together, Parenthood, and My Wedding Stories and you STILL don't have all of the features you got in Sims 3 Generations for 4x the cost.
    DLC gets a bad rap, but honestly I don't think players have a problem with DLC. They have a problem with scummy, exploitative DLC. Sims 2 and 3, while having a ton of DLC and being very expensive games to experience fully, were really not hugely scummy because again, you were expected to buy maybe a few EPs and call it good, and the base games were so good that you didn't absolutely need DLC to make them fun.

      EA DLC is exploitive, which is why Simmers hate it. Paradox DLC isn't - it's completely different - it's actually worth the money - it's DLC as it's meant to be - it expands the existing game.

    I have a feeling that ts5 will be subscription based…

    • @winkatuck
      @winkatuck Před rokem +1

      The only way I would consider a subscription is if it included all the DLC as it was released. Otherwise it's not worth it. To be honest they'd probably make more money sticking to what they got now. Most sims players only pick up the game for a week then don't play for a year. Unless it's a yearly subscription only. F that. :/

    Even with weather in the base game in LBY, I want to see a Disasters DLC. I love the idea of having your sims end up dealing with tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, blizzards and other disasters.

    One thing that is so off from the Sims 4 trailers to the game is that the background characters do nothing vs do everything.
    For example, you never see couples flirting in the background, exploring their hobbies, or actually interact with you in a meaningful way. .
    They aren’t a lot different than the “cars” that pass by.

    For me, I'm wishing for Rockstar to make a GTA Life version or another time period becos currently if I'm not building homes &/or families in the Sims franchise, I'm certainly destroying it &/or causing havoc in the other. Though, knowingly this reads glorifying violence, it's just a game to blow off stress and NOT to do it irl.

    I have seen many negative comments in the sims community about Life by You, I saw a few comments like nothing will beat The Sims 😅 But I am getting tired of EAs cashgrab Packs....and the most annoying are getting the Kits

  • @bonjourbanks

    I loved the sims 3 for their gameplay and LOADED packs. The producers of the sims 4 really messed up with pack and play content. Packs now come with much smaller details and content then ever before and they make you pay up the bum hole for this small amount of content… they’ve really screwed a lot of us over these past 14 years… so Im really hoping they either step it back up or a lot of us are going to say “sul sul” to the Sims. Im so thankful for some new sim games!

    To answer your question: YES! Yes, they will kill off The Sims. So many youtubers and sim influencers are on their delusional marketing mode (again!) and keep saying that Life By You is going to be a competition. Lol. Who are they kidding? The Sims 4 or 5 will not be a competition to the life simulation genre. It's going to die, just like how SimCity 4 died, after Cities: Skylines launched. And honestly? Thank God! EA deserved this.

    Nah I think EA will just have to pull up their socks and won’t be able to get away coasting while ripping us off. The Sims 5 footage remain the best LOOKING from all of them. They can still lead if they want to.
    However Life by You is a very promising contender. I’m not holding my breath for Paralives simply because they’re going to need to either partner up or get acquired to have enough cash flow to actually takeoff

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 Před rokem

      Paralives has the cash flow, it's community driven. But they're a small team, so mostly they need time - a few years yet, and they risk people giving up on them, losing interest and moving on, sadly. But I think they'll end up with a niche market when they do come out because they're very different. And their first priority is gameplay, which is very encouraging since we've been starved of gameplay in a life sim for almost a decade now, and they seem to have some wonderful ideas about good gameplay. I have no doubt that the gameplay will be good in Paralives. Life by You has shown us some remarkable customisation that looks amazing, but they've shown us literally zero gameplay as yet. It's a Paradox game, so it's bound to have good gameplay (Paradox is specifically known for providing depth of gameplay), but is it in the right direction to make it a game instead of a dolls house like The Sims and Second Life? Only time will tell, because Paradox really hasn't given us anything about actual gameplay - only customisation. I'm crossing my fingers.
