@@robertbonds6680 I'm kinda in two minds about the occults, on the one hand we know they can do separate occults well eg werewolves, but with things like mermaids and aliens there's a mismatch in quality (admittedly these were part of larger expansions but I feel my criticism still holds weight). on the other hand, in Sims 3 supernatural the occults were less in-depth but they all felt like they had an equal amount of depth if that makes sense lol, and there were more occult types included in the pack in one go (we still don't have fairies in sims 4, or things like genies and mummies from other sims 3 packs).
I guess my point is, if they're going to split up features into separate packs that used to be part of one larger pack in previous games, they need to justify that split. high quality in-depth game features like werewolves can justify separate packs, but I'd bet actual money that the venn diagram of people buying the every day or bathroom clutter kits is just a circle (and therefore a lack of justification for the split outside of "EA doesn't just want some money, it wants all the money")

You're so right about never leaving the house in TS4. In TS3, my sims are ALWAYS out and about somewhere. Even if they really are just rabbit holes, my Sim is always at the book store, or the movie theater, or the diner. I go to the grocery store weekly. I go to the spa weekly. I'm at the library all the time to use the computer and read skill books. I spend a ton of time at the park, mooching out of picnic baskets. I go to the consignment store a couple times a week just to see what's available and see if I can sell any of my stuff. I spend a huge amount of time collecting, and go all over the map all the time. I get my athletic skill up by running from the beach to Simhenge and back again. I frequently just spend time in the map mode, just seeing what's going on in town. I can see where the ice cream truck is. I can see if there's a sporting event happening. I can see if the unicorn is currently spawned somewhere.
In TS4 the only time I ever really leave the home lot is if I have an aspiration that needs something from somewhere else, and I do it begrudgingly due to the loading screen. I go out a little more now that I have Cottage Living, because I go to the grocery carts and the fair on Saturdays. But unless I have something that says 'fish in three different areas' I'm just not leaving my house for anything. Why should I? Why should I go to the boring, empty gym when I could just throw down a treadmill and an energized moodlet lamp in my basement? Why go to another square, barely decorated bar when I could just have a bar at home, and NOT see freaking Bella Goth everywhere I go? There's no joy in leaving your home lot in TS4.

To be honest, I've been confused why everyone is so excited for a generations pack. In theory, sure, awesome. But has nobody else realized that the majority of stuff that should have come out in a generations pack has already been released as separate DLC? No knitting for elders, no laundry, no updated high school, no proms or graduations, no new parenting system, no water slide, etc. etc. These are already things you have to buy separately and I'm sure once infants come out an infant kit will follow soon after.
If this pack is generations, I will feel like they pulled a reverse My Little Pet Stuff. I actually... don't want a generations pack because it's gonna be so lacking that I don't want to tarnish the holy grail that is Sims 3 Generations.

    • @X2RGD01
      @X2RGD01 Před rokem +5

I really don't know what we'll get with the new expansion pack since, as you mentioned, most features from generations are already in the game. I guess that they can still provide new interactions for younger sims like playing tag, baking muffins in the toy oven, dressing up as superheroes... And new features like memories, albums, expanded family tree, funerals... But still that doesn't seem like enough content for an expansion pack. It really seems that the new pack will be family focused because of the family tree image, the cartoonish drawing, the "relative" word and the "family" word in other languages... But I don't know how they'll handle it. In the sims summit they didn't show us really anything that could be family related apart from the picture of the kid riding the bicycle, which doesn't really mean we'll get that feature since it's just concept art.

I think the way I've always described ts4 is that "shes close to being good but just not there yet" especially in comparison to ts3. I would much rather have fun game play that keeps me entertained for hours than a lot of build n buy or cas(but then again I do play with CC installed so idk).
Also as for the occults, I think this really is the 1 thing the sims 4 has done very well for 3/5 of them. I wish that the Mermaids and Aliens also had the skill tree like the others but I know they'll never go back and fix them. I think the fact that the other 3 occults got their own pack that was so detailed was very fun to play with. I just wish all the occults got that same treatment :\

So basically, EA just did with sims 4 'generations' by selling multiple split up packs for higher sales profits even though even if you bought all those packs, the combined content still wouldn't equate to the ONE expansion pack sims 3 had....kinda same thing they did with occult sims packs as opposed to the sims 3 supernatural pack.

Thank you! I’ve been saying for over a year now that it is impossible for them to release a “Generations” pack that will make people happy. I’m simultaneously hopeful for a good pack coming up and also bracing for widespread fury.
But as to the isolation of packs - that’s partly on fans. Every time there’s any sort of overlap between packs or any single element in an old pack that’s released to base game so other packs can interact with it, there’s a huge outcry “I paid money for that! You can’t just release it free!” Or “You already did that! Including it again is lazy!” Even if it’s an extremely minor part and/or related but not actually the same thing. 🤦🏼‍♀️
It’s a negative feedback loop. EA was looking for a way to get more money out of us. And we not only reward them for it, we lock them in so they can’t course correct even if they want to.

So instead of being able to easily implement those features into your regular gameplay, you have to either move to that world and sort of dedicate yourself to that pack's gameplay, or constantly travel between worlds (which many players may feel like that breaks immersion).

The way they reuse the same theme over and over again (everyday clutter kit & bathroom clutter kit, Pets expansion pack & pets stuff pack, etc) is just getting pathetic at this point. It's such an obvious cash grab on EA's part and it's just confusing and overwhelming from a customer's perspective. The quality of the packs has also GREATLY suffered since they started doing this. The fact that they are now not even trying to hide that they are splitting one and the same theme into multiple packs to make more money just goes to show that this community has utterly failed in holding EA accountable. I'm at a point now where I am more frustrated with the people who keep buying these packs than with EA. Get your completionist addiction under control, guys. You're ruining it for everybody else. I come from the Sims 2 and never played Sims 3 and 4 but to me it seems that EA also backed themselves into a corner with focussing on just one feature per pack. Not everyone will buy everything, so connecting packs with one another is almost impossible or if you want to use a previously introduced mechanic, you have to reintroduce it.
No problem back in the day when a pack was more than one feature but today your customers will feel as if they were ripped off with the previous pack. Sims 2 introduced restaurants basically three times as you said and I don't remember anyone criticising that. Also talent badges came first with OFB but also again with Seasons and Free Time. Cars came first with Night Life and Free Time also gave you a car to repair and then use. Just imagine them doing this today. There would be riots because packs are less about being a big umbrella for new stuff and more one specific feature.
So I personally recommend Sims 2. Most stuff the Sims 4 has in terms of build and buy and CAS gets converted as soon as EA drops the packs. And especially in the last three years there have been many breakthroughs with mods that make new things possible. Highly recommend checking out LazyDuchess who is also actively working on making Sims 3 less of a strain PCs.

The sims 4 is a monetization nightmare. As someone who is active in a lot of other gaming communities, I can safely say that if any other game tried to do what the sims is doing, they would never get away with it. Yet in this community, microtransactions and seperating dlc which clearly belongs together is completely normalized. I personally stopped buying packs and regularly playing this game when snowy escape came out, that glorified seasons dlc was the last straw for me. And somehow the game has only gotten worse since then with all those kits.
Not only are the packs completely disjointed in order to sell us more crap, but they’ve also significantly lowered our expectations in the amount of content a pack should have. I believe that expansion packs are inherently overpriced, not a single one of them is worth 40 bucks. If you look at how much stuff was in a sims 3 expansion pack for the same price compared to the sims 4, it’s genuinely laughable. Honestly this game has one of the most gullible and exploitable communities who doesn’t hold EA accountable for anything. How many times was the sims 4 "cancelled" for releasing completely broken dlc, or splitting content up, or just using generally scummy business practices? More than you can count. Then the game changers get to make a video covering the "drama", get some extra coin for that and be right back to supporting the game the next day. It’s honestly tiring.

i disagree, whilst yes it was expensive and overpriced, you can turn off the sims 3 store suggestions in game and literally never have to see anything about it.

I don't know much about the TS3 store, but I have a suspicion that it would be more accommodating to niche interests than a TS4 kit. Both 3 and 4 are equally as capitalistic imo, but I think 3 was the better model for the players.

basically, once we got houseboats we could sail around the open world, as well as world adventures (which included hotels!), horses you could take anywhere in sims 3...everything since has been a miserable step back. I just want to feel that euphoria of sailing my house to a different lot in real time again....i miss building ranches too....who knows if we'll ever experience such joy again. ...my favorite parts of the Sims are just mere memories - **cries**

Unpopular opinion: I kinda like the isolated packs...they go into more depth on each feature instead of being lackluster....they need to do more for those packs though...but still.

yes, i also actually like that it's themed, because i dont want to have things i dont want. But the pack should have contained more, or priced less. it's just too expensive for so little things.

Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t leave my home lot … it’s such an inconvenience to go on a date or go to a gym lot …. Bring back open world !!!!!

Love this video - you're so right! Though I personally love the in depth occults of TS4, if other gameplay was more substantial I probably wouldn't miss them being dumbed down. I'm just HUNGRY for gameplay in TS4. In TS3 I feel like there's no way I can do all the things. Completely different vibes unfortunately. So I became a builder in TS4 because that's it's strong suit IMO.

8:49, what makes it worse, is that on one of the Sims 4's anniversaries, they added another hot tub in the base game (the one with the roof iirc), making Perfect Patio Stuff's main "added gameplay" kinda worthless..
