Rusty bolts are a battle...I was VERY happy when I sandblasted the last of the rusty parts. Good luck on the bell housing - was it just the bolts, or do you need to go with something like helicoils in the block?
Have not done a FJ engine yet. Hope to get a FJ 60 soon. Could you have put the bell housing on after you put the clutch on? Thanks for the videos and great editing.
There are bell housing bolts that land behind the flywheel, so you need to do the housing first. Luckily it's not too bad to get the flywheel and clutch in after the fact, (at least while the engine is out).
Looking good. Can’t to see you get her started. Just a stupid question. Why didn’t you put the flywheel and clutch on before the belhousing? Dumb question I know.
Not at all, I thought the same thing. There's four bolts that help hold on the bellhousing that are actually behind the flywheel...I just missed filming that bit. Why Toyota did that, I'm not sure... guessing they figured the added support was worth the fiddling.
I am right about the same point with my fj40. What sealant did you use on the flywheel bolts? Did you use locktite on the pressure plate bolts. Nice rig!
I just followed the FSM (factory service manual) and used the silicone "liquid sealer" that they call out - it was the same spec for the timing plate and oil pan, so I had it on hand. I'd wager a thicker flavor of Loctite would be more typical these days, the FSM was written in the 70s after all. I did Loctite the pressure plate bolts as well as marked them with that Dykem "Cross-Check" marking paint, but that is a good reminder to put it on the list of items on the nut-and-bolt retorque'ing checklist for the spring.
Can't wait to see that thing fire up, perfect clean job
good Progress mate.
congrats. We are finishing our drivetrain too. My Upper transmission to bell housing holes were stripped due to rust unfortunately. So another delay.
