Being new to watching CZcams tutorials, I gotta say your ongoing explanations and descriptions are greatly informative 👍
Much appreciated!
Wow Mike, the 40 lives again! Great work. Everything looks very sorted. Looks like you are getting very close to getting her back on the road.
Piece by piece... :-D
Sounds gorgeous man!! Congrats on this milestone, and thanks for the content. :)
The 2.5" all the way back has a nice burble at idle, but it still sounds like a 40 when you get on it --- pretty quiet in cruise, too. The dual rear outlet muffler fit in there nicely too, but it's actually made for a Wrangler JK...shhhh. 😆
@@lonewolfworks thats too sweet. Haha, I won't tell ;) Can't wait to get moving on my project again after I get a damn garage built. Will be looking out for your next post!
Just did my first start with the Sniper. I had a small issue with the idle being too high. Holley shipped mine with the butterflies way too open. Was idling around 2100. I manually adjusted the RPMS down to 1000 using the idle screw then followed the quick start guide with no issues. If it makes you feel better, mine has the exact same sounding knock that is pretty loud on the front of the engine and about mid way up the block. I have new ITM timing gears so I'm hoping its the same break in noise you had with the timing gears.
Good find on the butterflies. Mine was a factory refurb, perhaps they got mine right the second time. 😄 Interesting on the knock, does seem like the same thing. Mine quieted down after about 500 miles and swapping out the break-in oil.
Very cool to see the engine out in the open, super clean, with no grime or spider webs! Just wondering if the fresh paint has to be sanded off where your ground wires attach?
It did look nice and clean...was almost a shame to cover it up with the bodywork. It definitely helps to clean up those grounding points where you can as you finalize the wiring, and it's much easier without the body in the way!
con cuantos caballos de fuerza queda el land cruiser ?
Your exhaust looks and sounds great. I don’t suppose you have the designs drawn up so I could get one made up?
Sorry, no plans - was just fit-up in place and welded up with the TIG. It's 2.5" stainless all the way back - two 45* pieces worked well for the downpipe. The muffler was a stainless Dynomax for a Wrangler JK (53804), but it did need the inlet cut, extended, and rotated a bit to clear the shocks. It does fit well between the rear framerails, and it was one of the few available in 2.5" stainless.
Awesome first start and looking pretty awesome! I think I’ll be trying out the Howell fuel injection on mine when the time gets closer. Tried getting some answers today on ring gap. You can’t call Hastings and talk to anyone for tech support. My engine shop guy is telling me I’ll be fine with the .61/.66 gap but idk. I mentioned going .010 over and filing them and he said yeah that would work also for tighter fit. So my question is what was the final gap you went with and what oil ring did you use? I’m assuming from the .020 over set?
Agreed, I do think the wider gap would still work ok, but I figured it was worth the work to tighten it up since another ring set was easy enough to pick up. I don't recall exact number, but I just went to the middle of the factory spec (.020-.038mm)... likely .025mm. I don't 100% recall which set's oil ring I used... likely the upsized set.
Mike awesome work. Are you on the west side of Wisconsin? The reason I ask is we have a group of 40 owners that get together and hangout. Let me know if might be interested in joining us.
I'm more central, but it might work depending on where along the western side. Feel free to drop a line to mike(at)lonewolfworks.com.
Hey mate which version of the Hyperspark did you get? I can’t see a version specific for Toyota. Thanks very much!
I used the Jeep version, but it did need some modifications to fit... today's video has a bit more info on what it takes, hopefully it helps.
I can't find email address. I accidentally deleted the previous comment. 🙃
