- In this video, I will be teaching you how to remove the bar and the chain on the popular TrimmerPlus pole saw attachment made by Troy Bilt. Next, I will teach you how to replace the bar and chain on this pole saw. Finally, I will show you how to properly tighten the chain. I hope you enjoy my video on how to remove the bar and chain on the TrimmerPlus.
To begin removal of the bar and chain, we need to first remove the screw located at the bottom left of the saw's cover. Once this screw is removed, we need to remove the 2 nuts located on the front face of the cover. Next, we need to lift the cover off the bolts and set it aside. Finally, we need to slide the bar back and lift the bar and chain off at the same time. To remove the chain from the bar, you simply need to pull the chain out of the groves on the bar. We have now finished removing the bar and chain.
To replace the bar and chain, we need to start by putting the chain back on the bar. So, lay them both flat on a table and put the teeth of the chain into the slots on the bar. Next we need to take a flat head screw driver and loosen the tensioner screw, this is located by the oil tank on the front of the saw, by turning it counter clockwise. Don't go crazy here, three or four turns should be plenty. Now, we need to look at our chain and make sure the direction is correct, the cutting edge needs to be facing towards the front of the saw. A diagram is located on the cover as a visual reference. Now, slide the bolts through the slot on the bar and wrap the loose end of the chain around the gear. Next' we need to replace the cover. We can do this by lining up the bolts, on the saw, with the holes, on the cover. Now, replace your nuts and hand tighten for now. At this point, we can replace our screw on the bottom of the cover. We have now replaced the bar and chain.
Lastly, we need to tighten the chain. We need to start by tightening the tensioning screw on the front of the saw by rotating it clock wise. You'll notice that there is slack in the bar, you are able to pick it up and down. We need to hold this slack up. Finish tightening the chain. To Test the chains tension, to make sure its not to loose or to tight, we can pull up on the chain. If we can easily get to teeth on the chain to completely pull out of the bar then your chain is to loose. If the chain is extremely hard to pull up then your chain may be to tight. Another way to make sure the chain isn't to tight is by pulling on the chain. If we can make it turn easily then our chain is set to the right tension. If you can't move the chain or have difficulty moving it, you need to loosen your chain slightly. Once we have our chain tightened properly, we need to finish tightening the nuts of the front of the cover. Be sure not to over tighten. Finally, once you have everything back together, try turning you chain with your hands again to double check the tension. If everything looks good then you are ready to go.

And for me - looking for that missing piece and once found, disassemble and reassemble to put the part back in properly.

Thanks for posting this! My saw is tensioned way too tight out of the box. I thought it was defective, but now I know how to properly relieve some tension.
