Thanks a lot bro I did not know about filing a pole saw chain I wondered why my pole saw wouldn't cut I got for Christmas after using your filing tips this thing is a beast
Yes sir. Save money. Thanks
Excellent advice. Didn't consider this for pole sawing!
Glad it was helpful!
Probably the best video I have seen so far, on this topic. I like your point on the aggression, haven't thought about that, but makes perfectly sense. I have a stihl 2in1 file, and I think I will take out the flat file, and only use it when I find it necessary to take a little of the rakers.
Yeah. Filing the rakers every time u sharpen is a bad idea. Thanks for the nice words my friend.
Good video. Thanks for the education
Thank you
I learned about the "C" . I get cleaner, and faster cuts.
No problem man
Thanks for the video. Great job!!
Hey Kenny. Thanks bud. Anytime
Great video thanks dude
Sharpening my blades right now
thanks!
No problem!
What size file are you using
This is a 5/32 and 5/16
Very Helpful Video. Also, how do you know if the bar needs replacing? Thank you
Thanks for watching!! So, if the bar needs replacing, the chain will rock side to side in the groove quite far if you wiggle it side to side with fingers, the sprocket nose may be deformed , crushed or the sprocket inside the nose may not move and spin so easy.
That’s what I look for. There are ways of fixing these but sometimes it can be pretty labor intensive
@@AdvancedLawn Thank you again for time and knowledge and the informative video.
So you're sharpening a brand new chain? Being that you're dripping with sweat, I can reason that you're in Florida. I can relate. I watched to the end- hurricane season is from May/June to Dec.
I’m from Maine but now I’m in jax. Yeah I always sharpen a new chain if I’m doing serious cutting. With pole saws I simply remove some gullet and touch up the top plate so it cuts faster. I don’t touch the rakers because I don’t want it pulling too hard
What size file for Kobalt 10" 90v Pole saw. 1/4" Link Pitch ?? Guage 58 Links 1/32" Raker Clearance.
What engine combo do you use with your pole saw?
I use husky 128ld and trimmer plus saw attachment with a 14 inch bar. I took off the 8 inch crap. With good hand filing it will pull oak at larger diameter
What size file do you need for the OEM chain? Thanks for the tip!
5:32
@@AdvancedLawn ??
@@quietstormssvereen6582 depends what size chain. I usually use a 5/32 on these small pile saws
find the little numbers on the chain, and google what they mean, it'll tell you the size round file to use.
(or just get close and I guess the chain would eventually get filed to that size...but might as well do it right and have you saw cut the way it was engineered to.)
What size file are you using when your sharpening the pole saw?… I’m having trouble finding a small one.. I would order one if I knew what size it was… thanks Mike
I use a 3/16 but small is 5/32
the size of round file should match the chain exactly, Oregon stamps little numbers so even if you don't have the original chain packaging, if you look up what the numbers mean it'll tell you all you need to know. I have a card with each of my chainsaws written on it and what size round file to use. The files are cheap. I use the simple "file guide" to make it easy to get the right angle.
Of course if someone used the wrong size then as long as it's close the teeth will eventually get formed to that size, so that's probably why some people use the wrong size but still get useable results. Might as well take 5-10min, figure it out and just start doing it the right way, a nice-cutting saw is nice.
Hey ummm. I'm people but I'm not laughing at the importance of having a sharp saw chain or at you in any manner.
There are two things in the video that are concerning leading me to doubt and question your knowledge and ability as well as credibility giving any advice.
1: Your saw chain is on backwards.
2: Files are designed to remove metal in one direction. Pushing forward with a light amount of pressure starting from the top edge of file going forward and stopping at the handle.
A file is not sandpaper its not made to be used in a forward and backwards motion. That's why the file and the saw chain kept making that horrible sound. The file was skipping instead of making a good meaty digging in and removing metal sound.
Chain wasn’t on backwards. The bar was upside down.
