    I've wasted too much money having hardware stores sharpen (poorly) my chainsaw blade because I was intimidated by the thought of doing it myself. I have a neighbor(former logger) who took time to teach me how to sharpen it myself and it is truly a rewarding experience. Thanks for you inspiration!

    Lee Valley sells a Japanese feather taper file specific for that type of tooth, also for cleaning the file, take a piece of hardwood and rub with the teeth line and it will conform to the pattern somewhat like a comb and free the swath. If you sharpen a couple times a year it will be well worth the price of $15 US

    nice thoughts on life, and taking time to put attention on important things that might get skipped when busy working. I've learned the same things.
    fwiw cannabis has been a big help to slow me down, change my perspective, and then the things you talked about suddenly make perfect obvious sense, instead of being this weird abstract thing I'm trying to "get". Instead of being difficult, and failing at it, it helps "saw sharpening" type things become something I can get into and learn and succeed at.

    Your pruning videos have been very informative. First year to get the cherries to bloom since moving in(they had mummified cherries when we looked at house). But lots of pruning and layed ash, wood chips, and chicken bedding in the fall and they are blooming full out this spring. Was pretty much sand soil.

    Excellent message, and the tutorial is great as well. Sharp tools and knives are safer to use and much more efficient. Another tip: rubbing a little plain chalk on a file helps keep it from getting clogged so easily.

    Nice video, awesome close shots, but you should take time to use the right tools! Files can work, but using diamond laps or corundum wheels on a rotary tool is easier and faster And a sharpening jig to create uniform angles. And a saw set to open the kerf and make sawing easier after removing some set while sharpening. A video with ALL the right tools would be awesome!

    Good life lesson, keep sharp. Lotta saws these days have hardened teeth. From the sound when u filed, I think the one u demonstrated has hard teeth. Hardened teeth will immediately dull and destroy a good steel file. For such u need a diamond file.

    • @StefanSobkowiak
      @StefanSobkowiak  Před 3 lety

    I’ve been doing rejuvenation pruning on my Blue Hollie bushes, how often do I need to resharpen? The wood is maybe almost 2 inches at the largest areas, the smaller branches I use my loopers and my hand pruners.

    • @StefanSobkowiak
      @StefanSobkowiak  Před 3 lety +1

      Usually the saw tells you when it's not cutting well. If you touch the points and your finger sticks then it's probably sharp enough still. I cut for hours a day and sharpen once a year.

    En tant que fervent utilisateur d'outils manuel pour le travail du bois j'abonde complètement dans l'intêret d'avoir toujours des outils bien affutés pour gagner du temps.
    Je me permet quelques commentaires sur ce qui est montré car bien que d'apparence simple une lame de scie n'est pas la chose la plus évidente à bien affuter.
    En procédant ainsi vous redonnez un peu de mordant à la scie. Mais au cours du temps vous réduisez la hauteur de la dent. Moins la dent est profonde et plus les copeaux sont difficiles à évacuer, ce qui amène à plus de frottements et à une tendance à bloquer la lame dans le bois. Le travail sur cette 3e face est donc à réserver pour un rapide rafraichissement.
    Pour affuter en conservant la géométrie de la dent on travaille donc principalement sur 2 autres faces, avec une lime adaptée au type de dent. Ici on a une denture japonaise, à 3 biseaux, que l'on travaille avec un lime dite pignon (appelée diamond aux US). La lime tiers-point convient pour les scie aux dentures occidentales, peu utilisées aujourd'hui pour les scies d'élagage.

    • @StefanSobkowiak
      @StefanSobkowiak  Před 3 lety +1

      Oui merci. J’aiguise la pointe environ chaque année et les deux autre faces aux 3-4 ans. Je pensais que celle-ci serait suffisant à montrer car la plupart des gens ne font même pas celle-ci. Oui absolument j’aime pas utiliser un outil sans mordant, c’est plus fatigant et plus dangereux.

    • @SebR-FR
      @SebR-FR Před 3 lety

      @@StefanSobkowiak Oui vous avez bien fait d'y aller doucement, les gens pensent que c'est trop compliqué, qu'ils ne vont pas y arriver alors qu'il suffit de se lancer.
      L'info de l'acier n'est pas spécifiée sur le site du Lee Valley (ce qui m'a étonné d'ailleurs) mais votre scie à l'air affutable, la lime à l'air de mordre dedans. Mais la plupart des scies aujourd'hui ont une denture trempée par induction ou laser et sont trop dures pour être affutées avec des limes métal. On peut apriori utiliser des limes diamantées mais je n'ai jamais essayé.

      Lmao. I laughed when I saw blood dripping. I don't know why people refuse to use protective equipment. It's obvious in this video that a glove and actually a larger file would have saved his finger (s) from getting sliced up.
      Not just that but dirty blades have the potential to introduce bacteria, viruses or other health harming agents straight into the cut. People please protect yourself from blades!
