You apparently forgot Slenderman was this year but that's okay. It was bad, we all know that.
Jessica Diamond she is probably saving it for failed comedy
ajasjsjjssj
Maybe she wanted to forget about Slenderman.
Jessica Diamond Slender Man was worse than bad and worse than worst.
Jessica Diamond I slept through half of it
“cam” is honestly an extended “black mirror” episode
I agree!!! It was chilling to me! Made me imagine that happening to me on my CZcams channel. Lol
I loved that movie. The first half was more getting to know the main character and her life and the second half was watching it all crumble
Is it on Netflix ?
@@guiilty5924 yes its on Netflix!
It wasn't because it sucked
Suspiria, Hereditary, and Annihilation were top notch. Suspiria was like a spiritual experience, but I didn't have as much anxiety as other people seemed to have had, but I definitely held my breath. I hate being so desensitized to horror, lol.
Nora Murdock yeah the anxiety is in the original... the remake was bland
Suspiria remake is dull, boring, pretentious crap. Terrifier rocked.
I loved it! I highly recommend you check out the original
You rokkl.omg, hereditary is so freaking great, anytime I see a horror movie with a great twist,I usually spot it coming, but the last 15 min,was amazing.robp
Suspiria was garbage compared to the original!
Toni Collette is amazing Hereditary.
when r u doing your haunting of hill house review?
That was an amazing series.
That show is a masterpiece by definition, Some of the things they have done there, in terms of telling the story and filming... I don't know, I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. But the director also directed superb movies, many of which are favorites of mine. That gives a hint to his talent, which is among the greatest in history, in my opinion...
squashedeyeball can you give some examples of things they did with the story and filming that you mean? I liked the show, too and am trying to better train my eye for film. Thanks in advance if you respond!
@@princesspattycakeswm The thought behind of how to portray the story, to begin with. It's more than just "Giving you one piece of information at a time", just to create many twists. They thought of how these pieces will slowly build you towards emotional impact that will continue to rise with each episode. So the director knew how to build the intensity of the episodes, based on the intestine of each character. From less intense, to the most intense.
The atmosphere due to superb lighting techniques and the people who worked on the sets. It's rare to see a haunted house story which pays so much attention to the little detail. And that's without even mentioning the hidden ghost in every single episode. The ones you need to really look for in order to spot.
And of course, episode 6. 15 minutes + single shot... And then 2 more very long single shots. This is *Insane*. Never seen anything like that, a single shot that lasts for so long, in that high quality, with that many twists, full of complex, emotional dialogue and difficult acting parts.
What I personally loved about the horror movies from this year, is that I feel the genre is starting to re-define itself. Before this year horror was so limited to like, "slasher, supernatural, found footage, etc." but now the genre is mixing with other genres like drama and I personally love that. Hereditary for example, I'm glad that it was on your favorites list because it was definitely my favorite of the year. Ari Aster talks about how he wanted it to be like a horror movie mixed with a family drama, and how he wanted the horror elements to seem like a manifestation of the family's grief. I think he definitely achieved that. And Cam was another movie I was really impressed with because it exploited the horror of a real life situation and featured an actually progressive and unique protagonist. Overall I just love the way horror this year seemed to mix with real life situations and fears and I hope we get more movies like it in 2019.
That was one movie this year we got slenderman the nun the cloverfield paradox it’s just as bad as every other year with a few good ones sprinkled in between
The protagonist in cam was unbelievable, like her reactions to things were just dumb and the movie has quite a huge plot hole. I dont see how its a horror movie.
Hereditary is great, I didn't find the end of it confusing tho, and I'll definitely check out the Apostle. Sounds like a great recommendation, thanks!
The Haunting of Hill House is hands down the best horror I've seen this year - movie or tv. I was a little bit skeptical since I felt that just about everyone was throwing around the term 'masterpiece' related to it. But it deserves it.
I agree on what you said about Hereditary. I actually thought it was the other way around: they explained too much or at least: explained it too much in a straight-forward sense. There were these very unsubtle moments where they just bombarded you with exposition and the ending is the best example of that.
I hated the Apostle. Way overhyped.
@@scottj9122 I'd give it a 5/10
Agree on everything you said :)
the ending of hereditary isn’t confusing, it’s rushed and messy and no matter how much sense it makes or doesn’t make it feels like they forgot they had to end the movie and then let their 12yo finish it, it almost feels like a love letter to the exorcist. And the Haunting of Hill House was essentially the bold and the Beautiful with ghosts, incredibly predictable storyline with the same horror house tropes without adding any new or interesting commentary or perspective. Also if you rely on jump scares you can’t expect them to have the longevity to keep you on edge through a whole series.
I'd rather have a prequel for AHS Asylum or Freakshow. Those were the least predictable, yet most coherent seasons.
Prequel of asylum would be great.
TuliTheUnruly asylum was too confusing for me but I loved freak show because I’m a fan of the unusual
Love this idea!

Still haven’t gotten to see Suspiria sadly, I’ll probably watch in when it comes out on BluRay. I get Mother! Vibes from Suspiria too, but Suspiria seems like its more arthouse than Mother! AHS Apocalypse built up as this backstory and plot (Madison’s character arch, Moira finally getting peace, etc.) just for it to be erased on the last episode.
Not a horror movie but I thought summer of 84 is a really good movie. It’s a mystery/drama movie but it’s about a boy trying to prove his neighbor is a serial killer and I thought it was pretty well put together. I definitely recommend it.
I agree. It was very good.
I disagree with the hereditary ending being too convoluted and confusing, it was pretty straight forward to me
I liked Hereditary a lot but i actually thought it was OVERLY straightforward haha. I thought that they pretty clearly laid out the ending too
I didn’t really like the ending compared to the buildup in the rest of the movie. It was honestly kind of a let down. The first 3/4 of 5he movie was awesome, the ending...ok
Yeah, there was literally a voice over explaining exactly what happened at the end. Left almost nothing unanswered, lol. Loved the movie!
Yeah I thought it was pretty obvious
Terrifier was so Gory it made House of a Thousand Corpses look like a PG13 movie.
Just finished watched "The haunting hill house". I'll say it right now: One of the best shows I've ever seen, in all aspects (Acting, writing, directing, cinematography, delivery of the message and the impact of the message itself).
The show holds true to each and everyone of us and it was portrayed in such a way, that you are drawn to understand it while being mesmerized by what you're watching.
Hand down, I place it as high as Band of Brothers (Despite the difference in importance of course). Which to me, makes it a timeless masterpiece without any competition.
I agree! It was flawless!!!
Hereditary was my favourite film, horror film of the year, I don’t see what people didn’t understand about the ending; it wasn’t convoluted in any way
So excited you made this video! ♥️ You look lovely btw! 🖤
So happy to see you loved Suspiria, it’s my fave horror of the last decade. Would be awesome to see you do a full retrospective review one day!
Thank you for loving Cam!
yay!! can't wait to hear ur list and add to my list of what I need to watch!
Just found ur channel and subscribed! Awesome job Merry Christmas!
Yay!! I’m so excited for this! And damn you look great!!
But lol I find it funny on how opposite our views on AHS Apocalypse but that’s coming from a Coven Stan lol
hmmm mnm STAN GODWON
just found this channel, love it!
Love ur vids one of my favorite horror movie reviewers please keep making videos i will watch everyone ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Personal recommendations: "Mandy" with Nic Cage and "The Ritual" on Netflix. Hidden gems! :)
Is Mandy on netfix too?
@@groovysmoothie412 Sadly it isn't, but it's on Shudder.
I definitely second The Ritual. Craziness!
Mandy was a fucking ride and I loved every second of it!
Both of those were friggin' awesome.
Hill house was SOOOO GOOD!!
Sierra ?
At first, I didn’t really like chilling adventures of Sabrina but as I watched more and got out of my hill house obsession, it became more appealing to me. I feel like the first few episodes were really rushed and that threw me off but then it got back on track and just became an entertaining tv thriller. I also really enjoyed the Christmas special and I’m exited for part 2
Omg same! After the 5 episode i was completely loving the series, that episode was so good, my fav one.
APOSTLE REALLY IS A GEM!!! I LOVE HISTORICAL HORROR MOVIES!
I definitely agree with you that A Quiet Place isn't really a true horror (in my opinion). I think the atmosphere of the story does make you feel on edge but not in the same kind of way a horror might. I think the movie was hyped up for me by people so I went in expecting a great horror film and was just kind of disappointed. Overall I do still think its a good movie just not something I'd call horror. The last shot of the movie is framed and what happens in it for some reason made all of my friends kind of laugh which also made it feel even less like a horror.
It was a movie made for theaters, however, because it was literally the only movie this year where even annoying teenagers were afraid to make a sound or flip open their phones. Success!
If you ever get the chance to do a comparison on both the original and new suspiria movies it would be great to see your take on it. Glad to see you back on this channel!
New subscriber here. This floated into my recommended and I agree with (almost all of) your opinions. I will stay tuned for more
I love your content :)
Hi there Sarah great video I wanted to ask a question about the discount code and if its international as I am in the uk? I really enjoyed this video.
Good review. Surprised you didn't mention 'Wish Upon', which would make both my best and worst of horror films this year. :)
The ahs finale felt like a cop out to me, they could’ve done so much but instead they just went “oh hey none of this happened lol”
Thank you for talking about Apostle because I LOVED that movie and it's so good that other people enjoyed it as well
Cam was such a good movie, an instant cult classic to me. Actually one of my faves of all time now. The more I researched deepfake technology and how real it is, the more scary and disturbing the movie became to me.
It was different and good and different than just stolen identity. Makes me think whats really real out there..
Watched it today, its great and fucked up in quite a few different ways!
it was cute and entertaining
Caitlin - I personally didnt like it. Didnt really get to see the main character grow which would've been more interesting than her just being the same as she was before the events of the movie.
That made it feel like the "horror" wasn't really effective as she quite literally didnt seem bothered by anything at the end.
I also wish a movie could nail some sort of realism when it comes to the internet. I heard the movie Searching nailed it recently but Cam just felt like an edgy fantasy to me. It couldve been much more effective with just a little more realism.
Really just wasn't for me though and my opinion is only worth so much. But I also heard some camgirls say it was a pretty shitty representation of all sides of that market. So that kinda made it feel extra icky to me lol
O completely agree! I'll be doing a review on my channel
Good choices and I agree with you on the surprises.
Love the channel. I can't go along with Suspiria, which was easily the worst 2018 movie I saw, though you're certainly not alone in loving it.
i was wondering if i would ever hear anyone else talk about Apostle this year and im so happy you did because that movie was hoghly disturbing and i loved it to pieces.
Thank you for bringing up Apostle! I loved that movie so much and it was my favorite horror movie this year.
Welcome back!
My list - Best:
The Haunting Of Hill House
Suspiria
Hereditary
The House That Jack Built
Halloween
Terrifier (Sorry, loved it)
Worst:
Slenderman
Insidious: The Last Key (Sorry, again!)
The Nun
Overlord
What didn’t you like about Overlord? I personally enjoyed it but felt a little let down that it was more action thriller than horror.
Bee Butler just found it a bit slow and all boring
Overlord?it's not even a horror movie IMO
michael raharjo mutated zombie soldiers are pretty horrific
@@tangerinemisfit I mean it's not pure horror, more like Alternate Historical Fantasy-Horror and it's more into action just like Bee Butler said
Totally agree about Shay Mitchell's acting and open house! I didn't watch any of the other "worst" movies - Great video as per :D
I'd love to know your thoughts on the new AHS trailer(s).
Love you🖤
I wished that they would have just done season 2 of Scream Queens at a Summer Camp instead of AHS. I hated the 2nd season of Scream Queens with the hospital...
I watched Cam immediately after watching this and I loved it! Thanks for the recommendation x
Nothing on Castle Rock? I thought it was phenomenal but they didn't stick the landing.
I was quite surprised that Sara, and other commenters (except one other) didn't mention it. Where's all the Stephen King fans at?
Sabrina is ok but it’s weird that the best bits of the show are the parts where Sabrina isn’t in them lol. In fact by the end of the season you kinda don’t like Sabrina as a person, I actually found myself rooting against her.
She becomes infuriating, I agree!
Sabrina is a lil bitch. I'mma still watch it tho. But.... she annoying. I love Prudence tho, it should be The Chilling Adventures of Prudence tbh 😂
trayas22 everyone is an asshole in that show and they use the line “pray to Satan” several times every episode. It’s only a good watch to make fun of
Haha same
They need to borrow some of Ryan Murphey's camp. It just comes across as flat.
Cam isnt even scary or horror but its reallllyy goood
I'm surprised Mandy didn't make the list. I thought it was one of the best horror movies of 2018.
Perfect review of Suspria, I felt the same way in the theater during the ending
I think Terrifier had a pretty generic and boring storyline. It was an alright movie and I’d watch it again but they could’ve tried harder to make the storyline a little more interesting. I like Art the clown though, he’s one of the scariest clowns there is, a lot scarier than pennywise
Anonymous Exactly how I felt. There was nothing ground breaking about it but Art was a great character and definitely creeped me out.
Anonymous true
Anonymous I think it’s his brutality. Kinda like Rob Zombie's Michael Myers vs John Carpenter's Michael
I know the movie wasn't good but that clown still gives me nightmares
Hahahhahahahahah its just brutal but not that good storyline I agree but that clown though it was so scary af like it will kill you in ur sleep
Insidious the last key was so disappointing ESPECIALLY compared to the rest of the franchise
yes, I watched at the theatre and really wanted to walk out... I regret not walking out.
It was trash overall for sure.
Amber Elizabeth 1&2 are the best. then It went downhill from there.......
I watched Haunting of Hill House three times😂I enjoyed the character development and how close you got to become with the family - it’s just everything I needed in a horror show!
I was going to try Shudder but they only accept US viewers :(
Fernanda Pascoto i think that if you download nord VPN you can , i haven’t tried but maybe 🤷🏼♀️
rick jones really 😍 me too .. i’m gonnna try again
I'm in the UK and we have Shudder but the choice is so limited compared to the USA version I got rid of it. Such a shame!
ikr :(
What is the Shudder selection like for Canadian viewers?
You should definatley watch the movie ‘Mandy’! I just saw it a couple of weeks ago and my mind is blown!
The story is pretty simple, but the atmosphere, music, colors are just stunning.
Normally I’m not a fan of Nicolas Cage, but he is just amazingly different in this movie.
If you like the mix of cult, artsy, blood, great images, beautiful full music, crazy stuff, and a bit of evil dead, you are gonna LOVE this movie! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
This is why I love you Sarah! Suspiria was definitely the best horror movie of the year. I saw it three times! ☺️
You should watch the original Suspiria. The lighting, set design, and soundtrack is incredible. You should watch it just because of that.
2:57 He already wanted to make a spinoff when Coven was still airing, but then decided not to. If the witches come back, I really hope he does a spinoff, because both seasons the witches had sucked to high heaven, and Coven actually is the reason why the show went down the drain, as faults that were inventively patched in the previous two seasons became evident and some fans were still 'Ooo, bitchy witches, so cool'., so Murphy saw no reason to correct course, and well, here we are.
@Neely Hebert It was more of a laughter-free slasher 'satire' full of obnoxious sterotypes. It was apinful to sit through.
0:00 - 0:02 Beautifully describes my "hellos".
omg I completely agree with you on the nun review and the possession of Hanna grace (so bad) everything you said is exactly what my mom said while watching the movie LOL
If you haven't seen it, Better Watch Out is a great Shudder gem. I know it didn't come out in 2018, but I love it so much.
I loved Halloween for the nostalgia aspect of Jamie Lee Curtis, and seriously the gotcha moment!
I really liked the first 3 eps of Sabrina but I got stuck after that. I think I enjoyed the side characters more.
Suspiria was amazing, I love the original as well, it’s the most beautiful horror movie I’ve ever seen
I loved The Ritual too. Great list!
YES, I really enjoyed Apostle!!! After what’s actually going on is revealed it wasn’t really scary for me anymore but that’s when all the great gore kicks in which is horrifying in its own right so it doesn’t really matter. It had a really nice atmosphere and that one moment when the blood drips between the floor boards really freaked me out
Apostle was honestly one of my favorites. Such a surprise gem too
Watch the original Suspiria! , the moody atmosphere In the Intro/airport alone Is amazing ( especially Goblin's soundtrack combined with some of the set-pieces ).
Dario Argento always had good atmosphere imo , despite the plot not being the strongest which was typical of Italian horror.
hehe ily subscribed !
Tbh Asylum was the best season of AHS imo. I saw The Possession Of Hannah Grace and didn’t understand why Hannah didn’t kill the main character. Also I found it distracting that she looked like a possessed Taylor Swift (nothing against Taylor, she’s pretty cool. Just a random observation I got from the movie. Haha)
Celluloid Queer because she wanted to possess the main character
Totally random but LOVE your hair colour!
Your chair is amazing 😍
Omg, I totally got severe anxiety from mother too !!! Such a wierd overwhelming feeling
I also really really loved apostle and was surprised that I never hear anyone else talk about it
Thank you for talking me directly INTO seeing "Terrifier." I just spent the past hour and a half jumping, grabbing my chair cushion, freaking out, and gaping in awe at one of the most satisfying gorefests I've seen in decades. Clowns don't scare me ... Art the Clown, however, scared the shit out of me. The movie's pacing was blister-fast, the suspense exemplary, the special effects incredible (and, thank god, practical), and every time my brain said, "There's no way they're really going to show--" then, well, they showed it. For a spookshow-gore-shock horror film, I can't really think of a better ride. Thanks for the recommendation.
Best. Horror. Film. In. Years. People who don't like it, probably don't like seeing the naked girl sawed in half.
It was my favorite part of the film. It represents everything the liberal weaklings hate...therefore, I LOVE IT!!!!! Push the limit of art.
Mandy was my favorite horror film of 2018. It’s on Shudder now! Would love your review on it.
I tried and failed to watch Sabrina too! I just couldn’t get into it.
BrookeInProgress it’s from the same writers as riverdale so it’s cheesy and has appeal in the storyline but has terrible writing and character development
I hate the casting for Harvey. Ew.
Way too cheesy/corny and I felt the acting was bad. Shitty effects as well.
thank u im gonna try to watch all the best in this list! idk a lot of horror movies
You're forgetting Slenderman and Truth or Dare for Worst Horror of 2018. Sorry, I meant all time *
When Shudder finally comes to New Zealand there will be much rejoicing.
I was just waiting for you to say haunting of hill House 😂😂 because it’s AMAZING
suspiria was fantastic!!! tied with halloween for my 2018 favorite
I love the haunting of hill house because it wasn’t about jump Scares which sooo many movies do now. It had that slow creep up on you kind of scare and so few horror pieces do this now. The only notable recents I can think of is insidious. And the dream door was a really good show too, genuinely frightening 😊
Exactly. I loved hauting hill. The only jump scare I remember was the car scene wich was truly scary because since it didnt have any jump scares before it was totally unexpected and random. Hereditary was a movie with no jump scares and probably the best I saw this year.
did you see Overlord? I haven't seen anyone talk about it since the trailer came on when I saw Halloween, maybe that's a bad sign haha
I haven’t watched every one of your videos yet, but the Autopsy oF Jane Doe is one of my FAVORITES now and I think you should see it
i never really cared for Coven. i mean i liked the start but i couldn't deal with everyone being like 'i'm the next supreme' in every epi so i found Apocalypse boring. the last episode was also extremely anticlimactic and boring
My favorite part of Coven is Myrtle Snow.
@@poindexterjones206 i liked pretty much all the characters i just couldn't deal with the plot. we all know that the next supreme is gonna be the one who didn't mention it fifty times. move on
I agree... I couldn’t get into Coven because it had just such a messy plot that I couldn’t really get into anything else
Ria Lightwood-Bane I definitely liked Apocalypse more than coven, but neither of them were my favorite. My top two were Freakshow and Asylum.
@@lindseyparadiso same but i also really like Murder House
Where in the hell have you been?
Well? We're waiting!
I love Shudder. Joe Bob Briggs is coming back next year on a weekly basis, great movies, AND they're going to have a Creepshow series next year. What's not to love?
Suspiria... that's what I want when I go to see a movie. Effin masterpiece. And the fact that half the people walked out of the theater was even more pleasing... because those are the movies that get you in the guts, similar as Nymphomaniac or The Witch.
honestly the only horror movies i bothered seeing this year were a quiet place and halloween. and you're right about a quiet place - it's good, but it's more suspense & drama than horror.
Haunting of Hill House - the camera spins became so exhausting, I totally lost interesting in the story. Totally agree with you on The Terror!
Have you watched Fortitude? I would recommend it, its very cool visually.
Mother! was really disturbing. Completely agreed with you. Aronofsky was pretty extreme this time. I really enjoy avant-garde movies like The holy mountain and Santa Sangre from Jodorowsky but still I was not able to digest Mother! For me the symbolisms were a total miss.
Hereditary was one of my favorites of the year. I actually loved the ending.
Finally a gal that's not obsessed with psychological horrors. Nice review.
💯 !!! Totally agree! 👏🏼
Nooooo not Terrifier! I’m so sad that was on your worst, but I get your reasoning! 😂 nice job, and I agree with a lot of your overall choices!
Thank GOD! I thought I was the only one who watched The Terror. So glad to see it get some love as well.
Open House was so disappointing it literally makes me SO ANGRY
The best horror movie of 2018 is by far "Incident in a Ghostland" by Pascal Laugier
I feel like half of covens popularity comes from how many times I’ve rewatched it, because I love it lol 😂
A Quiet Place I just recently watched and just the fact that they had to remain quiet for the majority of the film gave a whole new meaning to scary.
Hereditary I haven't seen personally but I hope I get to.
Yeah, the Nun was a huge let down based on what the trailer provided.
I genuinely cannot remember if it was this year or last when I watched it (nor do I remember the release date) but do you have any thoughts on The Killing of a Sacred Deer? I watched it and was so underwhelmed and utterly confused (in a weirded out way, like why do the characters have 0 personality) by the whole thing and was even more confused after reading on IMDb about how it’s a supposed “masterpiece” and I couldn’t comprehend that.
